Trump to moderate GOP presidential debate

Donald Trump tells NewsNation's Tamron Hall "I think we'll have a lot to discuss," regarding the debate he will moderate Dec. 27th in Iowa.

Real estate mogul Donald Trump will host a debate for Republican presidential candidates in Iowa just days before the state's Jan. 3 caucuses.

Trump spokesman Michael Cohen confirmed the details of a New York Times report to NBC News: Trump, the star of the reality show "The Apprentice," will moderate a debate on Dec. 27 in Des Moines, Iowa. The debate is being sponsored by the conservative magazine Newsmax.

Cohen told NBC he had no list of confirmed candidates, and wasn't able to name the venue yet. He also stressed that it is not a "Donald Trump Debate," just that Trump would be moderating.

Still, the debate keeps with the outsized role Trump has played in the primary process since ruling out running himself for the GOP nomination. Most of the other candidates in the race have met with Trump, though, who has continued to opine on the race -- and even flirt with an independent bid for the presidency.

Wayne, no kidding. I do think adding one more adulterer to the GOP stage is proper though.

I always thought journalists were supposed to conduct these debates. Guess not. Now we get a birther. With orange hair.

How low can they go? The world must be shaking their heads. Can't blame 'em.

Yeah gang, why would we want a series of questions from an actual businessman/job creator? You know, someone who knows how to succeed, and fail in business, and what it takes to make a payroll every day.

And really, what does Trump know about debts and deficits and tax accounting?

Nope, much better to have big brained reporters running the show.

I'm with Wayne - I would love, love love to have Norquist moderate.

See gang - this stuff drives the national dialogue. There is a reason why the right track/wrong track is powering past 80% disapproval.

You cannot dispute the significance of that one poll, and the huge effect it will have on the next election.

Besides - it is sure to be both informative and entertaining.

Ok Mickey dazzle us.

Trump has created many different business and employs thousands of people.

So how is his being a job creator a talking point?

Mickey it really seems that you don't understand what that term means.

And while you are at it, perhaps you can inform us of all of his failures and then compare them to all of his successes.

You can actually back your crap up, right?

But then again, I am sure YOU are an excellent business man, have created jobs and employ several people, right Mickey?

Or at least you would, if not 100% focuses on all things Spanky?

Keep up the excellent work Mickey. You are the man.

I am convinced that the GOP wants to keep everyone entertained with the Nomination circus and all of these debates. Why do we need to have 26 debates to rehash the same thing over and over???

It is very obvious that the GOP is going to bequeath the Presidency to President Obama. He should thank them for his 2nd term.

Pietro, as much as I am amused by all of this nonsense, there is a little voice in the back of my head, asking Why?

Gingerbread Mamma - the short answer is this - BECAUSE THEY CAN!! The American electorate LOVES this kind of 'drama' and is distracted by it.

So while everyone is ooh-ing and aah-ing about the stupid things coming out of the mouths of the likes of The Sperminator and Newt the Oaf, they are always QUIETLY doing something that they know the American electorate would be vehemently against.

I am thinking that the 'Arrest Americans' Bill that would indefinitely detain American Citizens if they were deemed 'enemy combatants' is probably one of a few dirty deals that they are trying to get passed before anyone realizes.

It is good to see you here as well, Gingerbread Mama. You are quite a lady.

Well... now we know why Michelle Bachmann has been visiting Trump. Working together for the last while they've probably come up with a batch of questions that at least some of the candidates can answer without appearing to be utter fools. Could be kind of boring though. For instance:

What's your name?

Do you know what year it is? (This question may present a problem for some.)

Do you like butter?

Etc.

P.S. Ron Paul has my apologies. He is an intelligent man. I don't mean to lump him in with the rest of these nitwits. Just couldn't help myself. These others though? Gawd...

We had better wise up and get good dems in both the House and Senate or we are sunk. The GOP candidates fear any conversation regarding China, which is why some will entirely avoid this debate with Trump moderating. The truth be told, Trump is the only one on television that has a clue about China's attempt to dominate the world and sap every last dime they can out of the USA. If the USA only produces debt, what could it possibly trade in a global economy? Nothing except more debt!

All I ever hear is a 3 year old's incessant "why?, why?, why?". Questions are good, when you are trying to learn something. It doesn't get much better than this. The people that the Republican nominees must bow and pull their forelock for: Norquist, Limbaugh and Trump!

        Priceless.

Yes, Lionel Hutz, from The Simpsons...you know, the shyster lawyer? ...it fits, doesn't it "counselor"? Am I right? Yes, you know I'm right.

[...he has a degree in business, right?]

Just because you have a degree doesn't mean you're qualified...YOU even said that, Lionel...

            [Do you?]

            None of your business...

            [He runs multiple business.]

He's also tanked multiple businesses...you know, failed ventures...bankruptcies...all with his daddies money to boot.

Am I right? Yes, you know I'm right.

            [Do you run anything?]

            None of your business...

            [He is worth billions.]

From his daddies money...Trump never made a dime himself. Am I right? Yes, you know I'm right.

            [How you checking account looking?]

Mighty fine...and Glenn Beck didn't even have to talk me into buying gold, unlike you, who got suckered...Am I right? Yes, you know I'm right.

President Obama's Base of Support Remains Solid Heading Into 2012, written by Chris Cillizza, Washington Post/November 20, 2011.

Everyone knows that President Obama has a problem with his political base heading into 2012. Except that he doesn’t. An examination of the polling data among key subgroups that constitute Obama’s base makes clear that he has as much support from them as any modern president seeking a second term.

In Gallup’s latest weekly tracking polling, Obama’s job approval rating stands at 43 percent among the general public but is nearly double that — 84 percent —among African Americans. In the November NBC-WSJ poll, Obama’s approval rating among black voters stood at a stratospheric 91 percent.

Given that African Americans made up 13 percent of the overall electorate in 2008 — and, hence, a much larger chunk of the Democratic base vote — Obama’s continued support among that key demographic makes any sort of widespread base erosion in 2012 unlikely.

“Anyone who thinks African Americans are not going to turn out and vote in numbers similar to 2008 are fooling themselves,” said Glen Bolger, a leading GOP pollster. “There is no way they are going to say, ‘Well, we didn’t get everything we wanted from making history, so let’s sit on our hands.’ ”

Although African Americans remain the base group most broadly supportive of Obama, liberals and Democrats are very much in his camp as well. In Gallup’s most recent data, Obama’s job approval rating stood at 78 percent among Democrats and 70 percent among liberals.

Those numbers are similar to where President Bill Clinton stood in November 1995, when 78 percent of Democrats in Gallup polling approved of the job he was doing. (Bush had the support of 87 percent of Republicans in the fall of 2003, but those numbers were the result of the boosts he received from the start of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.)

            ********************

Yet the media keeps pushing the Obama has lost his base crap.

He will get re-elected and his base is going to work harder than ever to see that it happens. There is more at stake than the presidency in 2012; there is the Supreme Court; there is immigration; there is the House that quite frankly, has to go. There is the Senate where quite frankly, Scott Brown has to go. And a few others.

2012 isn't just about the re-election of President Obama.

This is our moment to take back our country from the fruitcakes.

This whole republican debate thing has degenerated in to little more than a vulgar reality show which should be named "The Fabulous Fart Olympics" brought to you by your local Tea Party and an undisclosed religious terrorist in your community. So, gather the family for an evening of insults to your intelligence and appeals to the basest of your natures.

Sorry foks. Yes, slightly off-color, but that is not far from the truth, and you know I am not far off.

And what really angers me is that the democratic party is not taking advantage of this orgy of superficial nonsense. They do nothing. Silence they should be ashamed of.

A pox on both of their houses. Give me a third party to choose from.

so WHY should the Dems NEED to take advantage of this RETHUG self-immolation? The RETHUGs take themselves out with a self administered clean right cross to the jaw. They don't NEED any assistance - they are doing a perfectly good job on their own.

anyhow, what could the Dems SAY? You cannot reason with insane people, so why bother. The Rabid Right will keep on chugging the KoolAid, the moderate middle, or "us", will be befuddled and bounced back and forth like a ping pong ball, and the Left still can't get out of its own way. I do agree, this is like the "gay" "family Values" "abortion" "not a Christian" etc fol de rol that they used in the past to get everyone riled up, while they just continued on their merry way, destroying our economy and our way of life. Everytime a pol tells you this is going to benefit the citizens, duck and cover. I was disenchanted by Obama the day he announced his "agreement with the drug companies", which meant that it would be business as usual (and it pretty much is, isn't it).

Great. The only possible moderator more biased and obnoxious than Chris Wallace, and so qualified. Don't I recall Trump opening his campaign by saying Ron Paul could not win the GOP presidential nomination?

                un-f%#@*ing believable!

And yet, this nonsense just continues.

This is not my parent's Republican Party.

Is anybody at the RNC concerned?

The whole Republican party has become a side show. From the perpetually tan John Boehner to the presidential hopefuls to now the latedt dwebate starring The Donald. The only serious candidate John Huntsman is running in the single digits in popularity. This is better than any Democrats or late night comedian could ever ask.

I don't like this at all. Partly because I already know he holds a grudge against the candidate I support. He is a businessman, nothing more. He's not moderate, balanced nor fair (neither is Fox!).

Finally, I don't like seeing debates for presidency turned into a reality show, which Trump will be sure to do (Oh, what's this? They already are a reality show?)

                        Jolly joker:

Are you off your meds, Pelosi is a very intelligent lady more than can be said for Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Perry and numerous others. But my comment: Who cares about EGO Trump, the man has about as much credability as Gingrich. They are much alike, trading mistresses for wives on a regular basis. This is one debate I will miss, I am pretty tired of these clowns - but at least Sat. Nite Live has lots of material.
