Cain to make 'major announcement' Saturday

Herman Cain's campaign told NBC News the presidential candidate will make a "major announcement" tomorrow in Atlanta. Andrea Mitchell reports.

Alfredo Ortiz, a Georgia-based press secretary with the Herman Cain campaign, tells NBC News that Herman Cain will make a "major announcement" tomorrow in Atlanta at his new campaign office in DeKalb County.

Ortiz would not allude to the nature of the announcement other than to say it is a "major announcement."

Cain has been the subject of media scrutiny for weeks, sparked by an Oct. 31 story in Politico reporting that the National Restaurant Association had settled sexual harassment claims brought by two women.

On Nov. 28, an Atlanta woman, Ginger White, announced that she had engaged in a 13-year-long affair with Cain. The former Godfather's Pizza CEO acknowledged sending money to White, but insisted they were merely friends.

He told senior staffers on Tuesday that he was taking time to “reassess” his campaign.

The announcement follows the first planned face-to-face meeting between Cain and his wife, Gloria, since White came forward.

Cain's campaign has pushed forward with business-as-usual in the meanwhile, soliciting donations from supporters, and launching new efforts, such as "Women for Herman Cain," an initiative spearheaded by his wife.

@joel r. Kaswell - But what I am hoping is that we have come to our senses as to who we are as a people, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken in again by unscrupulous candidates running for public office. I agree with you 100 %, I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Ronald Reagan. I kept wondering just what it was that I was missing; what did this man do that necessitated defying him? They do the same thing to another republican, Lincoln...oops, excuse me, I digress.

And you liberals are still excited over a President that is not qualified to run a McDonald's and has replaced Jimmy Carter as the worst President ever. Interesting!

I don't see any accusations about sexual harassment and/or affairs against the President, do you Duane? I love it how the right wing tries to deflect their problems unto someone else...

don't you know only liberals can act like this! If you were a Democrat it would be OK to sleep around. Heck they would even elect you President. You could even get reelected after having an affair in the White House. But as a Republican you are held to a higher standard. The press will never let this go. They are still trying to come to grips with the idea of a black conservative. they will latch onto anything to bring you down. Time to leave the race to take away the distraction.

What is all this talk of a candidate being pushed to resign over old sex? We are taught to seek life, liberty and by all means the pursuit of some happiness. Should he have to resign over happiness? nein, nein, nein as the Germans would say. Not in the 1990's and not now.

He must be searching for new happiness right now for he is taking his sweet time in his announcement appearance.

If Herman Cain had the word Democrat in front of his name, this wouldn't even be a story.

We can always trust Msnbc to lead the media in Republican smears and attackism.

Msnbc where the "M" stands for misleading.

What are you talking about Leona? In the 1990's Bill Clinton's sex scandals was a story, Bill Clinton ran as a Democrat. America decided in the 1990's that a President and a Candidate had the right to the pursuit of happiness and it was none of our business. If his statement was misleading or a lie, he had the right to do that and it would be overlooked as long as his focus was for the better good of the country.

If a Democrat, or a Republican President wants a harem, who cares. Women should be willing to sacrifice if it is for the better good of our leaders to be able to focus on the problems that confront the nation.

As JFK said: Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Follow Marilyn monroe's example. She was one patriotic lady.

Leona, it would be a story.

When a man runs on the "I am righteous, and God has lead me to run" platform he has an obligation to be true.

It doesn't bother me if these guys have affairs, what bothers me is how they present themselves and deal with their affairs.

At least Arnold was enough of a man to admit he behaved baahdly.

I have respect for Dominique Strauss-Kahn for admitting his flesh is week.

              Cain has disgraced God.

He is not enough of a man to admit his flaws.

There is no question in my mind Bill was trying to protect his marriage with his denial.

Bill never claimed God lead him to be President nor did he run on Family Values. That is the big difference.

Cain is no longer running because the liberals of the world destroyed his candidacy on hearsay added to a dose of that Democrat hack Gloria Allred ( who was called in to destroy Meg Whitman too) . At the same time, the libs/Dems worship at the altar of Bill Clinton who "messed up" all over Monica's dress in the oval office!!

              That's all I'm saying.

              HYPOCRISY at it's finest.

                    No I am not.

When someone claims God runs their life they better live that way. At the very least when caught have the decency to admit your failings and repent.

The bible has some scary verses. One being:

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Thirteen years is a willful disobedience. Much different than a one or two time act of lust in the Oval office.

I don't care what this man did in his or anyone else's bedroom as long as everyone was in agreement. The harassment is a different story though.

My real problem is do we really want a man who is stupid enough to think this would not come out if he ran for this office in this office?

Newt talking morals and principle during the Clinton impeachment while doing the very same thing and also engaging in acts of corruption and fraud so obvious he was fined and denounced by his political friends, no, that's not hypocrisy, that's just the GOP fraud, they're regular MO.

And the proof is that now, the front GOP runner is a corrupt, fraudulent character without a single ounce of integrity. A match made in heaven for the GOP.

@sfcret - I beg your pardon, but Hillary and Jackie are not the biggest losers. Apparently each woman believed that the marriage was worth saving. Every husband and wife does not separate or divorce because of an infidelity. You believe they had selfish reasons for staying. Now let me see, what in the world could those reasons have been? In the case of Jackie, no first lady up to that time had ever left her husband. Elanor Roosevelt had to deal with it right under her nose in the White House. According to historians, she contemplated leaving, but was persuaded to remain in the marriage. She became FDR's eyes and ears during the harsh depression years. We know from the recently released tapes that Jackie cared very much for her husband and he depended upon her to bring clarification to some issues. It would have been totally devastating for our country if Jackie had left JFK, especially during the turbulent 60's. We need to thank her that she was able to remain in her marriage; we owe her our gratitude. Hillary as the history books will prove, had/has absolutely nothing to lose by staying in her marriage. This woman can do just about anything in terms of a career. I would love to see her lecturing on a college campus, or, perhaps writing. I believe she and Bill are intellectually compatible.

Just another Libya moment for Cain.

Actually, "unproved" is not incorrect... it is just clunky and lacks a smooth cadence.

@Texan -1139653 I'm confused, are you referring to Herman Cain as a sitting congressman? I beg to differ with you but Herman Cain has never been elected to public office. Usually, where there is smoke, there is fire.

Cain has it backwards. The good news is he is suspending his campaign. The bad news is he's not going away. Please media let him go.

Wait and Watch. Herman doesn't think he's going away...but then Herman also thought he could be President.

Sorry Herman, but it sounds wayyyyyyyy too much like a plea to send you sympathy for your role as victim in this life. And since that goes against conservative principles, I can only conclude that Americans have absolutely no clue who you are. Maybe an al-queda plant? Maybe a soviet agent? We just don't know, no republican cries "VICTIM!!", so what entity do you actually represent?

I just heard that Cain isn't going to endorse Obama...

I guess that given Obama hasn't sexually harassed women - and has been faithful to his wife - he just isn't Cain's kind of guy...
