Cain to make 'major announcement' Saturday

Herman Cain's campaign told NBC News the presidential candidate will make a "major announcement" tomorrow in Atlanta. Andrea Mitchell reports.

Alfredo Ortiz, a Georgia-based press secretary with the Herman Cain campaign, tells NBC News that Herman Cain will make a "major announcement" tomorrow in Atlanta at his new campaign office in DeKalb County.

Ortiz would not allude to the nature of the announcement other than to say it is a "major announcement."

Click here for a Herman Cain photo slideshow

Cain has been the subject of media scrutiny for weeks, sparked by an Oct. 31 story in Politico reporting that the National Restaurant Association had settled sexual harassment claims brought by two women.

On Nov. 28, an Atlanta woman, Ginger White, announced that she had engaged in a 13-year-long affair with Cain. The former Godfather's Pizza CEO acknowledged sending money to White, but insisted they were merely friends.

He told senior staffers on Tuesday that he was taking time to “reassess” his campaign.

The announcement follows the first planned face-to-face meeting between Cain and his wife, Gloria, since White came forward.

Cain's campaign has pushed forward with business-as-usual in the meanwhile, soliciting donations from supporters, and launching new efforts, such as "Women for Herman Cain," an initiative spearheaded by his wife.

Doc Holiday - I am with you. If the contributions are still coming in, then the Sperminator will continue with his campaign, no matter what the pundits say.

The problem is that the GOP establishment wants him to go away now. He is taking more oxygen from the room than they want him to. I personally find this HILARIOUS and the best reality show on television.

Hermie should have stuck with the script and fleeced the Conservatives of as much money as he could get from them. Sarah Palin did the same thing, and she GOT OUT. Newt Gingrich is continuing to do so, but his ego is writing checks his campaign cannot cash, so he will crash and burn soon.

No, Hermie wants to be President, and what Hermie wants, Hermie gets.

Like the Tea Party, the GOP underestimated Hermie the Clown and he is going to cause all sort of havoc for them.

This couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.

I would like to still believe that there exists candidates that haven't, and wouldn't cheat on their spouses. Both parties seem to put out candidates that have ego's or something that makes them think they are better than their marriage, and the rest of us.

One thing I'll give Obama credit for, he seems to understand the importance of Family, and the positive effects that family brings to our inner core, which in turn helps one make better day to day decisions.

Army 80,

I'm not saying that faithfulness leads to better decisions. I am saying that when a person isn't faithful to their spouse, I for one cannot trust them with day to day decisions. And I would assume that the burden of being unfaithful gets into one's head and gets in they way.

I for one will never vote for someone who isn't faithful to their marriage. Not Gingrich, Edwards, etc.

cdahl, I assume you didnt vote for Clinton and your making a huge assumption about Obama. How can you really know whats going on in someone's personal life. I would be much more concerned about financial ethics and overall integrity than worrying about their personal life. Obama's selling 10 feet of his backyard to Tony Rezco for several hundred thousand dollars is much more of a concern from an ethics standpoint than his faithfullness or lack thereof.

OK... lets just cut straight through the BS and ask the question "who the hell even cares what Herman Cain is going to do?" This is not breaking news people... if you called your house and your dog answered the phone that would qualify as "BREAKING NEWS"... if Michelle Bachmann said anything that was not an outright lie or fabricated, that would surely be "BREAKING NEWS". People, Herman "The Hermanator" Cain going home to face his wife Gloria "The REAL Hermanator" after that interview she gave in his defense, people this is not "BREAKING NEWS", the news is what she does to this A-hole when he steps in the door.

Living separate lives is one thing. Being humiliated publicly over your husband's 13 year relationship is something else entirely, particularly when Mrs. Cain didn't know money changed hands. No sane person can claim nothing inappropriate happened during that course of time with messages being exchanged at all hours. Seems like Cain goes for a particular kind of woman: one that needs to be "rescued" from her finances. I think Herman will drop out on Saturday, like others have stated, on a day when we're not all in front of our monitors checking out the latest "breaking news."

Herman is going to tell us that he can no longer subject his family to this kind of disgraceful innuendo. He is going to tell us he loves his wife and his family, and after consideration, a great deal of prayer, and the thought of losing half of everything he owns to his wife, he has decided to leave the race.

He will apologize to his faithful - and incredibly stupid - supporters and thank them for their support in these trying times.

He will of course be available for speaking engagements and book signings. It's about, "Mine, mine, mine."

My last comment on this before getting back to work. Bill Clinton was a very effective president who reached across the aisle and got things done. He also liked the ladies. Okay, got it. But Herman Cain is an imbecile to begin with. You can't be incompetent AND a hound, while running on a platform of everything the extreme right stands for, and expect the nation to embrace you.

You are correct. Because of that reason, I didn't vote for Clinton. And faithfulness is not my only litmus test for the validness of a candidate. But it is a deal breaker for me. I put honesty and integrity on a pedestal. And those that are unfaithful to their commitments don't fit that bill. All things being equal, I then vote for the 3rd party candidate if I can't vote for the other 2.

I can't think of anything more embarrassing than the Republican Party because it treats its followers like their zombies, and then say one thing on the campaign trail while their political planners make up lies openly in public, as if no one in the world hears them but their Republican voters.

"Well, let's just "say" that we are for the American Workers" when we've been hearing them say, nonstop for the past 3 years how they are fully behind corporations, who Republicans call "job creators" that AIN'T creating NO JOBS but are operating totally tax-free while Republicans pile up the debt on the backs of the poor and the middle class.

Obama bought 10 square feet from Rezco's wife's to expand his lot in 2005. Not the other way around. He paid more then it was worth too. The original property was his lot and the lot next door which Rezco's wife bought. The owner split them up to sell them.

Democrats, republicans, male, female, black, white or whatever. It's the majority of republicans, however who state over and how they are the party of "family" values. It is the republicans who preach about the sanctity of marriage. It is the republicans who tell us that they do indeed live up to a higher standard than those evil liberal democrats. It is the republicans who wear their Christianity on their sleeves. The republicans who condemn homosexuality and judge all who do not live up to THEIR morality.

It's about hypocrisy Duane. It's about do as I say, not as I do. It's all about" I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the type of person I'm preaching to". It's all about the sham morality of the ultra right. Think of Elliot Spitzer. Think about John Edwards. Think of Anthony Weiner. LAST BASTION OF INEQUALITY IN AMERICA

The one thing a Proud Black Man can not be in America today is a conservative. It's true Cain is no saint. However, we are not electing a Pope with the "white smoke" or "black smoke" here. No, we are electing a President.

It is one thing to criticize Cain over the Uz-bekki-bekki-stan-stan remark and his seemingly lax attitude toward foreign policy and the place of the U.S. in the world. That is a fair criticism. As president, the leader of the free world must be savvy about such things.

It is slander, muck raking, and the height of "yellow journalism" to drag up settled matters from his remote past at the National Restaurant Assc. Old news. Settled. Both sides are BOUND BY CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENTS. The purpose of such reporting is to destroy Cain politically. Congratulations Liberals, you have made your KKK ancestors proud. You have effectively pissed on MLK's grave. You have spat in the face of Rosa Parks. You have sicked the dogs on the marchers to Selma. By destroying Cain, you have made a mockery of your Civil Rights heritage. To reiterate, the one thing a Proud Black Man can not be in America today is a political conservative. The Liberal Cotton Patch enslaves Blacks into a system where welfare is king and entrepreneurship is considered a betrayal of your Lilly White Donkey Masters who run the DNC Plantation.

Can not understand why people who run for office think that their "skeletons" are not going to come out of the closet. People are going to dig for the dirt, we have seen it over and over. His arrogance seems to be worse the more people come forward and that seems to be the give away to the rest of us.

Too funny!! Why not just drop out and be done with it? He sure is trying to milk every minute of TV time he can, which just makes him look desperate and pitiful!! For me, it's not that he supposedly had an affair... it's the sexual harassment allegations and the fact that he's a liar (Cain being a liar is fact, based on the mounting evidence that his mistress has kept over the years)!! One thing I can't stand is when one of these politicians (on both sides), are caught having an affair and still continue to lie for months/years afterward.

Trouble is that Hermie didn't follow that Dr Seuss elephant's line "I meant what I said and said what I meant - an elephant's FAITHFUL one hundred PERCENT". Hey Bob Jones,

Who gave President Obama the worst approval rating ever? The righties who actually believe that the truth is only given to them by FOX News? They are deluded. And who cares about "ratings" anyway? Anyone with half a brain could see that the mess we're in is absolutely not the President's fault, but the mismanagement of the Bush Administration who got us into a deeper hole than any of the so called experts ever counted on and an obstructionist Republican Congress and Senators who do not care about the 99% but only care about getting rid of this President so they can force their "support the rich" agenda down everyone's throats. Isn't it time for ALL American voters to see the real truth and stop voting for Republicans against their own interests? Oh, but that's right. If the Republicans get their way they will win the election by disenfranchising many traditionally Democratic voting voters with their disgraceful voter ID election laws they are attempting to get states to pass.

Rich J, you do realize that its 3 years later and we voted Obama in to provide that hope and change thing and FIX what Bush, Clinton and the housing bubble wreaked on the economy. Instead his policies have made things worse not better. Give up the Bush thing as its not Fox News you can blame for the low approval ratings, its Obama and congress and politicians of both parties. You really think voting laws that will make you have an ID to prove you are registered are really going to determine the election. If you do I have some real estate here in Illinois to sell you as Obama's mentors drive this state into financial ruin. Do you not see the connection between everything that is wrong financially in Illinois where he learned his tradecraft with everything wrong he is trying nationally? The class warfare 99% crap doesnt cut it because the majority of americans outside of california, NY, Chicago and you few on this blog are out of touch with mainstream fiscal conservative americans who believe in self reliance, ambition, personal accountability and hard work. Obama and you guys want equality of outcomes even with inequality of effort, talent and yes investment. Thats why his approval ratings could cause him to lose to GOP candidates as bad as Bachmann, Perry or even Cain. That is why people like Fiesty, David and others continue to feel its necessary to personally attack poor GOP candidates. If Obama could run on a successful record, would any of you even have to make light of any of the GOP candidates? It would be a landslide victory for Obama. The more credible the GOP candidate, the more gnashing of teeth by Fiesty, David etc because they have no positive success in which to brag and tout on behalf of their guy. They just dont understand how silly it makes them look as trying to be rational defenders of financial policies that have been absolute failures.

How is Obama and 4 more years of economic pain and misery and suffering better than Romney, Gingrich etc. Everyone has imperfections, look at the mistake we made 3 years ago by electing someone with zero experience and a total lack of business acumen. Just because you may not agree with certain political positions of all the GOP candidates certainly doesnt make all of them poor in comparison to Obama.

Canary in the coal mine--I think you need to read your post and maybe rethink whether you have the same candle power as a tax lawyer as that was one of the most incomprehensible posts since True Patriot tried to put a coherent sentence together. Disagreement with political positions doesnt have any connection to intelligence but it does reflect on your ability to comprehend. Are you trying to say a Black person is of such limited intelligence that they cant think for themselves? Are you saying that they blindly follow Obama because of 50% skin color? They certainly dont follow him based on actual economic results as his policies have made African Americans worse off than before he was president. The progressive policies of economic racism in which financial and government assistance are intended to keep african americans addicted to government assistance in all of its forms rather than promoting self reliance and personal accountability. Over 50 years and 16 trillion dollars spent and all that can be said about the War on Poverty and the progressive low income policies and anti education reform efforts have kept African Americans from closing the education and income inequality gap. Maybe you should become more of an intellectual critical thinker before you post.

Amused. I never said she would win. But it would be much closer than it should be because she is too socially conservative. But as bas as Obama is it would be too close. If she couldn't beat a rug then why bother with the constant personal attacks as her positions and abilities would be self evident and there would be no need for the feisty hysteria and the personal silliness. Obamas superiority would be so obvious from all his success that all you guys would need to do is tout their success

Is such a statement even rational, even with the qualifier "could"? Irrational is more like it and you certainly should know better. Then again you are a conservative, nuff said.

No I am a financial conservative. I voted for Clinton and made a mistake the first time and voted for Bush against Gore but not Kerry. I am socially moderate or even liberal in comparison to the GOP platform. But you are correct, I think Obama is so far removed from reality on fiscal issues that he could even lose to Bachmann even though I dont like her and think she is bad news. How is that inconsistent with what I said. Do I think she would win, probably not but it would be closer than you think and she would have a shot because Obama's fiscal policies have been a disaster for this country

This would only increase when the "tires meet the road" in the general election. The disaster that you speak of is clearly the result of the disasterous Bush administration. Like it or not, its the truth deal with it. Basing your comments on strictly your opinion and pesonally I don't think it holds any water.

We are witnessing the ugly, breathtaking, inevitable end to what was always a fake candidacy. Herman Cain was not running for president. He was running to boost book sales, put speaking fee dollars in his pocket, and to pump up his overinflated ego to gargantuan levels. The man was the epitome of an empty suit, with no real plan for anything and no idea that he would become the frontrunner among a GOP base so angry it cannot see straight. He's done... http://www.sunstateactivist.org

mattpfl - yes, what you've posted is true. Hermie was supposed to be 'comic relief' and someone to show that the GOP could have 'a TRUE Black Conservative' in the party.

Hermie's job was to bring Black Conservatives into the fold and to be his normal, funny self. He was supposed to say outrageous things that no other Conservative COULD say out loud.

Hermie's '30 pieces of silver' was the book tour, where he could fleece as many conservatives as he could.

Hermie's downfall was two-fold - his ego and he NOW REALLY WANTS TO BE PRESIDENT, going off script.

Hermie cannot claim 'racism' because of whom he is in bed with, so he blames the Democrats for 'derailing' his campaign. It is hard to claim racism of those of whom you are 'a brother from another mother'.

I personally hope that Hermie the Clown rises from these ashes and gets the nomination (although I know that the GOP will NEVER, NEVER, EVER give it to him).

Thank you, GOP, for the memories!!

I have to say this was the funniest GOP group running for President in History:

                          Hermie the Clown

                          Flip Flop Omney

                          Out of this world Backmann

                          I'm not a conservative Huntsman

                          Newt the Flewt Fake Flake

                          Caveman Paul

You just can't make this sheit up - Reality TV

All of them hate poor people and love the rich. WOW

The young girl dreamt of a wicked witch cackling over her cauldron of the stewing plot, “Ah ha! This strategy is working just fine my beauty” the witch exclaims as she stands in front of the Koch Halloween Mansion. The early actors Crazy Eyes and Stupid Cupid have already been sent to the dungeons.

“We then find a pizza boy with skeletons, raise him up on the stand then bring out the skeletons crashing on his pepperoni”. Applause.

“In the next scene we shall raise a ‘newtered’ pug on the stand for a while to confuse the party while we watch our schooled salmon flow like sperm upstream” the witch continues. More applause.

For the final scene the witch will select her final candidate from the line of baggers she calls Baked Alaska, NJ Fatso, Evil Grover or one of two brothers from another mother from Wichita …. Who will it be?

….. Crash! Suddenly the young girl wakes up from the scary uncompleted dream and looks for an eraser to wipe out the above narrative. Alas, the cat ate the eraser.

Please don’t throw brickbats or teabags on the messenger, she was just having a nightmare.

OK - so I'll probably be called racist for this - Hermie was looking to do a "Putney Swope".

Go google it, better yet, actually watch the movie. Yes, it was (literally) a "black comedy" - but it illustrates the principle of what happens when decisions are made in attempts to be "PC" (this before PC was even thought of as a "term") based on "race".

While his "candidacy" was doomed from the very beginning, it was amusing to watch the destruction and the vultures gather to in effect "pick the bones". Now IF we can only convince several of the other "worthless candidates" to fold their tents as well, we will be on down the road (it still won't help the RETHUGS because of the total ineptness of their "candidates", but at least a lot of the "chaff" will be out of the way) Next to go will be the 2 ricks and 'chelle. Ultimately the lizard will likely garner the nomination, whereupon the RETHUGs will again retreat with their collective tails between their collective legs for ANOTHER 4 YEARS of scheming and wailing, bleating like the lovesick sheep that they are!

Remember - the mormons may be the best of the batch, but the Teavangelical leadership will NOT allow them to be nominated - it would ruin their "christian rightwingnut" support ENTIRELY (not to mention that the "blue" states won't tolerate either of them anyway - another 60-40 election and the congressional races tend to follow the presidential race - as opposed to the idiocy that happened during the "off year" elections in '08) Ron Paul will remain the quintessential "also ran" that he has been for 30 years.

Unless a "dark horse" emerges from the woodwork, this is what the RETHUGs have as their "best offering". In valley gurl speak "Gag me with a spoon!"

                                      Herman Cain told Ginger White:

"Blame yourself! Blame yourself if you can't pay your month to month bills. Get a job!"

And then, because he's so soft hearted; he gave her a job."

You may laugh at the above; but the crop of Republican candidates shoved at the American public is no laughing matter. Perry, Bachmann, and Palin are jokes. Supporting Newt means conservatives are willing to dump their values and turn a blind eye to his hypocrisy. Huntsman and Romney can possibly end up more liberal than a moderate Obama. Ron Paul? At least you know what he thinks. Santorum? Is he serious or just ambition? Let's re-consider Trump!

Considering it's Herman Cain, who knows what tomorrow's "major" announcement will be. For all we know, he might be saying he's taking the week off to reassess a little longer.

Gloria Cain seems like a lovely lady, can't help feeling sad for her. Guess one has to look at the bright side. Because Herman decided to go on his presidential book selling campaign, his wife now knows what he really does when he's on the road.

I think she knew all the time. Remember that look on face when she was interviewed by Greta Van Frankenstein when asked would he be a good president?

what motive is there for not wanting someone TOTALLY unqualified for the job? It's not a racial thing - he just isn't presidential material.

Remember even if "another one bites the dust" - the job's not finished until "another one's gone and another one's gone - another one bites the dust" and even when the last MAN is standing, that RETHUG will also bite the dust. THEN we can get down to business and FIX THINGS.

Let's get rid of PORK BARREL valuation in congress - the way to do that is by establishing TERM LIMITS

Only good news if he drops out for Dr. Paul. Mr. Cain's limp understanding of foreign affairs is laughable for a presidential candidate, as well as his indefensible position at the Federal Reserve private bank.

Its time to pick a Patriot. Dr Paul is the only one I see that I will give this title to.

While I find Paul to be one of the more honest and sincere candidates available, I don't think he would be an effective leader. His stated desire to pull out of almost all of our overseas bases strikes me as potentially dangerous. And traditionally Libertarians are not the kind of leaders you want during a time of economic hardship.

Is he a patriot? Yes, no argument here. He's one of the few we have left in politics. He seems like a genuinely good man too - one of the few Republican candidates I can respect. But given his policies I just can't vote for the guy in good conscience.

I agree with Ron Paul about many things. I agree with him about closing bases around the world. The world war that matters is the economic war going on. We don't need to fear China militarily but economically. Paul is right about almost everything but he's wrong about letting big business just run amok. He's dead wrong about that and that's the biggest issue there is in this election.

Libertarians are the only ones that understand that the fastest way for the economy to heal is to stop picking at it. Everybody else's instinct is to do "something" so they can claim credit when the economy eventually comes around despite their actions.

I just wanted to make one point clear to those that think staying in Afghanistan for any period of time is viable. The war is unwinnable and whether we leave today, or ten years from today, there will be unrest as there is in Iraq now.

Ron Paul sees this, hence his intent to get them home now, now, now. I've been to Iraq - There are no "Terrorists" there, just people defending their homeland - Same situation in Afghanistan.

Within 50 years, both Iraq and Afghanistan will return to similar states in which we entered them and it will be as if we never even came. Mark my words.

Ron Paul, sorry but no thank you. Dr Paul is a John Birch Society supporter. He gave a big speech in October to celebrate their fiftieth anniversary. Furthermore he has made some inaccurate statements regarding his early medical career in San Antonio, TX. Dr Paul said that the hospitals did not turn anyone away if they had no Insurance. Wrong, first of all, few people had medical insurance back then, you had to have cash. I was living in San Antonio back then. Several people did die because they were turned away if they had no money. One little boy had been hit by a car, the driver rushed him to a hospital, they were turned away and the child died before they could get to the Charity Hospital.

This IS really sad to see. We (liberals) WANTED Herman to be the Republican candidate!

The ones who hate Obama, claiming it was because of his policies, when it was really because of his skin color, wouldn't have known what to do. It reminds me of what a former co-worker used to say "I didn't know whether to sh*t, or go blind, so I shut one eye and farted"!
