Can’t buy me love: Not a lot of love for GOP candidates, especially Romney, at GOP focus group in Fairfax, VA… Another focus group finding: a Teflon Newt, though some of the negative comments about him packed a punch… Unemployment rate drops from 9.0% to 8.6%, with employers adding 120,000 net jobs in November ... Gingrich’s response on child labor is Classic Newt… Two ways to look at Romney’s meeting with Bush 41 yesterday… Romney, Bachmann, Gingrich, Perry, and Paul to attend Huckabee forum on Saturday… And “Meet the Press” to interview David Axelrod and Reince Priebus.
NBC/Wall Street Journal pollster Peter Hart conducted a focus group among Virginia voters in which Romney was called the "dad who was never home" and Gingrich was called the "friendly uncle."
FAIRFAX, VA -- Most of the 12 Republican primary voters who gathered here to participate in a focus group that NBC/WSJ pollster Peter Hart (D) conducted for the Annenberg Public Policy Center believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. They’re not hopeful about the future. And they don’t like President Obama’s leadership. But they didn’t exactly love the GOP candidates. That was especially true of Mitt Romney. When asked who Romney would be if he were a member of their family, they answered, "black sheep," "fun neighbor," "cousin," "second cousin," "dad that was never home." By comparison, the responses for Newt Gingrich were "grandfather," "father," "my favorite uncle," and "uncle who keeps bringing home different wives." When asked who they would like to serve as their character witness if they were in trouble, just one Republican mentioned Romney. And when Hart pressed them to further talk about Romney if he becomes president, one person described him as a "placeholder." Another called him a "safe bet."
*** Concerns and strengths about Romney: More than anything else, this focus group helped explain WHY Romney hasn’t broken through with GOP primary voters, at least not yet. Polls are great for finding out WHERE a candidate stands, but they do not always help tell the story of WHY a candidate is winning/losing etc. That's not to say the respondents didn't have kind words for him. Asked to list his strengths, they responded, "moral character," "strong leader," "rolls up his sleeves," "role model." (It was interesting that businessman wasn't the first words out of their mouths.) But here were their concerns about him: "not strong enough," "RINO [Republican in Name Only]" "wishy-washy," and "RomneyCare." And here were other words they associated with him: “vanilla,” and “manufactured.” In a roundtable with reporters after the focus group, Hart observed that there was “no warmth, no connection” with Romney. Yet Hart cautioned that -- a la Nixon in 1968 -- he could still end up as president. “No passion, but smart, competent enough to be president, good family values, steady.”
*** A Teflon Newt? Meanwhile, Gingrich did surprisingly well with this GOP focus group. "I was surprised how well Newt Gingrich wore throughout the night," Hart observed. For instance, Hart handed out a paper containing oppo on all the Republican candidates. Only two of the 12 had concerns about the $1.6 million Gingrich made from Freddie Mac; just one was concerned about his immigration views; four had concerns about his three marriages; and six had concerns about his flip-flops on Libya, climate change, and Paul Ryan's budget plan. By contrast, NINE had problems with Mitt Romney's Massachusetts health-care law, and seven had concerns about his flip-flops on abortion, global warming, and taxes. (Strikingly, none of them had concerns about Romney's Mormon faith or his Bain Capital layoffs.) When asked to list Gingrich's strengths, they responded, "proven track record," "knows how the system works," "negotiator," "doer," and "good with foreign policy."
*** But “careless and combustible”: But while Gingrich had the most passion in the room and while his oppo negatives weren’t as high as some of Romney’s, members of the focus group said a few negative things about him that contained plenty of punch. His negatives: "morals," "marriages." Another called him “careless and combustible,” and another said of him “same ole ballgame.” One female focus-group member -- the same who called him “careless and combustible” -- said she would probably vote for Obama if Gingrich were the GOP nominee simply over the personal stuff. In a head-to-head match-up between Romney and Gingrich, seven picked Gingrich and five picked Romney. And when you had all eight GOP candidates, three sided with Newt, three picked Romney, and Bachmann, Huntsman, Paul, Perry, and Cain got one each. (One person was undecided.)
*** Other quick points from the focus group: Speaking of Cain, the focus group wasn't fond of him. Words to describe him: "trouble," "has no chance," "damaged," "unelectable." Among the favorable comments: "Outside the Beltway." Also, none of the respondents said GOP congressional leaders had lived up to expectations. What’s more, about half of the respondents said they could change their minds about their GOP preference (as Hart recalls, Fred Thompson was the star of a two-hour GOP focus group in Richmond, VA four years ago). Lastly, the focus group members were informed and knowledgeable about the Republican race. Some of them relished the opportunity of Gingrich debating Obama in a general election. They knew about Cain’s Libya flub, as well as the female allegations against him. And one respondent referred to Rick Perry as a “piss-poor debater.” As Hart later emailed First Read, “This may be a situation where debates with lots of candidates seem like a mess, but these people formed many of their opinions from the debates.”
Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain meets with his wife for the first time since a woman came forward claiming she had a 13-year extramarital affair with him. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
*** Unemployment rates drops to 8.6%: More green shoots of good economic news. The AP reports, “The unemployment rate fell last month to its lowest level in more than two and a half years, as employers stepped up hiring in response to the slowly improving economy… Employers added 120,000 jobs last month. And the previous two months were revised up to show that 72,000 more jobs added – the fourth straight month the government revised prior months higher. Still, one reason the unemployment rate fell so much was because roughly 315,000 people gave up looking for work and were no longer counted as unemployed.”
*** Classic Newt: Turning back to the GOP presidential race, Gingrich comments about the need for poor children in poor neighborhoods to work was Classic Newt. He raised an important point (work ethic in poor neighborhoods, but his rhetoric might have gone a little too far. “Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits for working and have nobody around them who works,” he said in Iowa yesterday, per NBC’s Alex Moe. “So they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday.” A broad generalization that, to the ears of many, comes across as uninformed about poor communities and a little condescending and dismissive of those in poor neighborhoods who work 12-15 hours and don’t know how to get ahead. Again, it’s Newt: The center is an idea everyone agrees with (get kids in troubled neighborhoods an opportunity to get ahead), but then how he gets to that idea assumes a stereotype that is offensive to some.
*** Two ways to look at Romney’s meeting with Bush 41 yesterday: Also yesterday, Mitt Romney met with George H.W. Bush during a fundraising swing through Texas, and Romney had his picture taken with the former president. There are two ways you could interpret the meeting. One, it helped Romney look presidential and like the inevitable nominee. Or two, he sat down with the last Republican president who wasn’t embraced by his base and who ended up raising taxes.
*** On the 2012 trail: Cain holds a town hall in South Carolina before heading home to Georgia to talk face to face with his wife… Bachmann’s also in South Carolina… And Paul and Santorum stump in New Hampshire... Also, on Saturday, FOX’s Mike Huckabee hosts a forum with some of the candidates. The confirmed participants, per NBC News: Romney, Bachmann, Gingrich, Perry, and Paul.
*** Friday’s “Daily Rundown” line-up: Reaction to the new job numbers with Moody’s Chief Economist Mark Zandi and President Obama’s CEA Chairman Alan Krueger… Rep. Jason Altmire (D-PA) on the fight over a payroll tax cut, the economy, and his bet with one of us (!!!) over last month’s Florida State/Miami football game… Pollster Peter Hart and another one of us (!!!) on what we learned in a Republican focus group in Virginia last night… Plus more 2012 news with the AP’s Liz Sidoti, the Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus and msnbc’s Michelle Bernard.
*** Friday’s “Jansing & Co.” line-up: MSNBC’s Chris Jansing interviews Nate Silver (to talk about 2012), economist Diane Swonk (on the jobs numbers), and former Gov. Ed Rendell (on 2012).
*** Friday’s “MSNBC Live with Thomas Roberts” line-up: MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts has live coverage of President Obama and Bill Clinton’s joint energy announcement. Also, Thomas interviews Bernstein, Politico’s John Harris, and Dem Rep. Charles Gonzales.
*** Friday’s “NOW with Alex Wagner” line-up: Alex Wagner’s guests include former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer, Wes Moore, Imogen Lloyd Webber, and the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein.
*** Friday’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” line-up: NBC’s Andrea Mitchell interviews Stephanie Cutter in her first interview in her new role as Obama Deputy Campaign Manager since leaving the White House two weeks ago; MSNBC’s Rev. Al Sharpton; Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and CNBC’s Larry Kudlow on the jobs report,;Salon.com’s Justin Elliott on Occupy Wall Street; New York Times Magazine’s Robert Draper on his Romney profile; and Chris Cillizza with the Daily Fix & Worst Week in Washington.
*** Friday’s “News Nation with Tamron Hall”: MSNBC’s Tamron Hall interviews GOP pollster David Winston, the Washington Post’s Anne Kornblut, Democratic strategist Keith Boykin, Gen. Barry McCaffrey on Iraq withdrawal, and Danie Bice of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
*** Saturday’s (and Sunday’s) “UP with Chris Hayes” line-up: The guests include Dem Rep. Jerry Nadler, former Biden economic adviser Jared Bernstein, and former Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services head Don Berwick.
*** Saturday’s (and Sunday’s) “Weekends with Alex Witt” line-up: MSNBC’s Alex Witt conducts her “Office Politics” interview with Mort Zuckerman.
*** Sunday’s “Meet the Press” line-up: NBC’s David Gregory interviews Obama political adviser David Axelrod, as well as RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. For the program’s weekly “PRESS Pass” feature, Gregory interviewed Politico’s Mike Allen about his new book about the 2012 campaign.

Another chapter from the you just can't make this stuff up file;
- Newt Gingrich (to Jake Tapper of ABC News)
Meanwhile, Calista was spotted at Nieman Marcus in the drapery & china department, before heading to Tiffany's to reward herself for all of her 'hard work'!
Newtsie may in fact be the GNOP nominee, but there is NO way in hell this country is going to elect someone who advocates child slavery!
That bit of news is sure to cause the RWNJ's some indigestion over their breakfast! lol
It's Getting to be Prediction Time:
I must confess that for a variety of reasons I was unable to save all of last year's predictions. I have searched high and low for Frank "Grimey" Grimes predictions as they are often accurate. So, Frank, if you are reading, perhaps you can resurrect them from the archives written sometime in December 2010.
Others lacked substance and did not deserve a shout-out and still others were written after Christmas, which was too late to track.
As often the case, many of us were way off track, but amusing just the same. I'll begin with some of my foolhardy guesses. I thought the Senate would dramatically change the rules regarding cloture. Missed that one! I thought Ruther Bader Ginsburg would retire. I'm glad I missed that prediction.
I thought the Dow would be around 12,300 to 12,600. Did not account for Greece and Italy.
The few predictions that were reasonably accurate were the Republicans would not support any jobs bill. And the Republicans would not support an infrastructure repair bill; they seem to be willing to let the highways crumble to gravel and bridges rust to be unsafe at any speed.
My good friend Dennis thought that Sarah Palin would emerge as a clear frontrunner. If she had decided to run, she likely would have been a frontrunner. To Dennis's credit he saw raising the debt ceiling as very, very messy. That scores as a direct hit. He also predicted that tax reform won't go anywhere. As early as last December Dennis predicted that neither the Red Sox nor the Yankees will win the American East.
Jody predicted that the possibility of gridlock will remain in Congress. Good prediction Jody. She also predicted that the unemployment rate would drop, somewhere around 8.5% . She could have well been right if the bankers and wealthy corporations were willing to hire people instead of hoarding their money. Jody predicted some sanctions would be lifted against Cuba. That was a spot-on prediction.
I apologize for leaving out some predictions. Some bloggers did not specify their name so I was unable to give them credit.
What I have learned is that making yearly predictions is a lot of fun and politics turns on a dime. One will more often be wrong than spot-on.
Next Monday I will make my predictions for 2012. If you are so inclined, I would enjoy reading your predictions and will attempt to save those predictions written through December 9th. Mark, Domenico and Ali are encouraged to give your predictions as well. Don't be shy.
The jobs report from the USDOL is better than it has been in many months and the unemployment rate dropped to 8.6%, which is not as good news as it might seem to be because it is down due to discouraged unemployed workers dropping out of the survey. Maybe if the Slow-bama recovery gets even slower, enough of the unemployed will stop looking for jobs and Barry will get a 5-6% unemployment rate and declare his jobs efforts a “success”.
Even though 120,000 new jobs is an improvement on prior month’s anemic gains, it is still not even enough to keep up with population growth. And therefore, still pathetic for a President who promised to be focused on jobs like a laser.
It may be a very good day on Wall Street and those who have their money invested there will be partying tonight. Especially after Wednesday’s almost 500 point Dow gains. The term used to describe this is a “Santa Claus rally”.
BTW, they couldn’t be cooking the books to make Barry look good, could they?? I’m sure if GWB was still President, the regular FR lefty liberals would believe they were. LMAO!!!!
From CNBC.com:
Job creation remained weak in the U.S. during November, with just 120,000 new positions created, though the unemployment rate slid to 8.6 percent, a government report showed Friday.
The rate fell from the previous month's 9.0 percent, a move which in part reflected a drop in those looking for jobs. The participation rate dropped to 64 percent, from 64.2 percent in October.
The measure some refer to as the "real" unemployment rate, which counts discouraged workers, also took a steep fall to 15.6 percent from 16.2 percent, its lowest level since March 2009.
Average earnings were essentially flat, up two cents to $23.18 an hour. Private payrolls increased 140,000, considerably less than a report earlier this week showing that nongovernment jobs were up by more than 200,000
Republithug Whackadoodles. May not be able to buy them love, but boy can they sure purchase some votes. With the largest warchest about to open up, there will be so many lobbying hands stealing the gold, the RNC won't know what hit them.
I have to hand it to Newt, he has them by the... shut yo mouth!
Now add anti-women to the anti-science, anti-education, anti-history, anti-compromise tags already pinned to the GOP.
How does Knut Gingrich or the Knutbaggers thinks he's going to win with no women voting for him??? Are these people ignorant or what???
Boy, wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall for the face-to-face!
Some times you can actually find brilliantly illuminated truth even in the darkest minds. So it is with Glenn Beck. Beck is the crazed bigot who wrote the book, Arguing With Idiots.
Why would anyone argue with an idiot? Yes, my fellow lefties, I'm asking you that question. When you argue with idiots, do you imagine they will apply their critical thinking skills to honestly analyze your argument? Do you imagine they are going to question their dogma when you show them facts that contradict their beliefs? Of course not. They are idiots. So, why do we continue to argue with them?
Let's do some profiling. They come here whining about lefty libtard socialist commie pinko progressives. They do this day after day. These are the people who hit themselves in the head with a hammer because it feels so good when they stop.
These are the people who can see an uninterrupted stream of scientific data supporting anthropogenic global warming and deny the data. You never saw these people in a science class. These are the people who think economic cycles begin on inauguration day. They believe that cutting taxes increase revenues. They believe Jon Kyl. They are deathly afraid of numbers.
Why do we argue with these people? No matter how great the weight of facts contradicting their positions they cannot be moved. JAS will continue to fabricate. Njnb will cherry pick meaningless statistics. Spanky will continue to agitate and demonstrate his incompetence with the English language. Kirk will continue to post his stream of unconsciousness ramblings. Dsdsherm signs off with, "ABO." Really? Do you think you are going to change these weak minds?
It is a waste of time to argue with idiots. However, from those darkened minds comes the opportunity to shed light on the truth - FOR OTHERS. New people come here all the time. These must be our targets.
We are watching events unfold that for many of us can only be characterized as unbelievable. The right wing that so hates President Obama has thrown in with Newt Gingrich. Gingrich is a pure sociopath. The same people who hate Obama and tag him as the Messiah have fallen in love with Gingrich who tags himself as GOD. Those people are idiots. You cannot argue with them.
This same type of non-thinking, the hallmark of the right wing, plays out again and again. Wake up, lefties. Our battle is not for their weak minds. Our battle is for the minds of those who want America to survive and succeed. Our job is to educate.
Take the lies of the right-wingers. Shred them. Destroy them. Post your facts, your links, post search parameters. Don't waste your time arguing with idiots.
She also predicted that the unemployment rate would drop, somewhere around 8.5% . She could have well been right if the bankers and wealthy corporations were willing to hire people instead of hoarding their money.

Dr. Ron: Today's jobs report has the unemployment rate at 8.6%. Maybe you and Jody owe the "bankers and wealthy corporations" a sincere apology??
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
People's View website: Written by Deaniac83 -
The Republicans in Congress may be singularly focused on destroying the American economy in order to hurt President Obama's chances of re-election, but the American consumer may already be responding to President Obama's relentless focus on helping the middle class be able to spend again, in order to get our economy going. After all, consumer spending accounts for nearly 70% of America's economic activity. So as the holiday shopping season kicked off this past weekend, trends are pointing to economic expansion rather than doom.
A short summary of the Black Friday weekend: Consumers spent $52.4 billion from last Thursday to Sunday, up 16% from $45 billion last year. The number of shoppers were up, to 227 million from 212 million last year. Average spending also climbed to $398.62 from $365.62 the year prior.
The uptick in consumer comfort with spending didn't stop with the end of the weekend, either. November sales for most retailers are beating Wall Street expectations.
****************************
Here's hoping the children have a very Merry Christmas this year. This is after all what it's all about. Smiles and excitement on their faces. The innocence of it all.
It's a wonderful time of the year for them.
I hope everybody takes a moment to look into Toys for Tots and other programs out there to ensure that our less fortunate children don't get forgotten.
Jody: You do get extra credit on your jobs prediction. I posted before realizing that the job market is improving.
This whole payroll tax cut deal is just astonishing to me. It was a bad idea when it passed a year ago, and it's an even worse idea now when the administration wants to double down on this turkey. The payroll tax cut doesn't boost job creation, it just gives money away. And it gives that money away at a time when the finances of Social Security are already fragile, and thereby just further undermines the fiscal "integrity" of the program. Stupid is as stupid does, and the payroll tax cut idea sure is stupid.
Ah, but the economic merits (or demerits) of this policy are irrelevant. Because the Dems are using this issue for purely political purposes to advance their class warfare narrative. Yup, they want to paint Republicans as aligned with evil rich folks and against the middle class by accusing them of wanting to shield the former from a tax increase that would "pay for" the giveaway to the middle class. The core appeal of that argument is that whenever the Dems advocate taxing Peter in order to pay Paul, they will invariably get the support of Paul. Not a bad message, if you can get away with it.
And now that the period for last year's "temporary" payroll tax cut is over, reverting to the status quo ante is being framed by the Dems as a tax increase instead of the return to normalcy it actually is. That's not a bad message either, the Republicans used it to great effect to prevent expiration of the Bush tax cuts. But discerning readers will note there is a key distinction between allowing marginal income tax rates to increase to their former levels versus putting the payroll tax back to where it was: The former would have had a clearly negative economic impact while the impact of the latter is marginal at best. Of course, that distinction will be completely lost on the low information lemmings who vote Democratic.
So at the end of the day, the Democratic strategy is simple: frame the debate with Republicans in class warfare terms, and rip the hell out of that fault line. Pound the heck out of the "spread the wealth" theme. The NYT this morning is giddy in anticipation of same and is already feeling a tingle up their leg. But Americans need beware: Giving money away via lower payroll taxes or any other means is just another step on the redistributionist road towards imposing the leftist vision of "economic justice" on all of us. That radical OWS-like idea is a disaster in the making as we speak, and should be vigorously opposed by all right thinking Americans. So don't be fooled by Democrats bearing gifts. It's the countless years of giving away government gifts that have gotten us into the mess we're in now.
Ron, those predictions are always fun; glad you saved them! Will have to give some thought for 2012.
David, you just posted what I have been thinking about all day. (My day started VERY early and I am grumpy). But with the folks on the right, it is not only their hate of the president and love of money and power that irks me. It is their lack of heart for their fellow man.
Great news today (for Democrats) the unemployment rate dropped again. We're headed in the right direction. The Repugs hate it. Ah, to bad, so sad. It's only going to get better.
Well the Repugs did it again, gave the finger to the Middle Class and the poor. These people have no heart and no shame. A lousy $1,500 hundred a year in tax savings ( that's a year) but they want to cut millions in taxes for the rich. These people are animals with no compassion for their fellow human beings. VOTE THEM ALL OUT IN 2012.
Obama in 2012.
Ron, thanks for the extra credit! I must have been using my crystal ball last December. I do remember also predicting that the Senate would change the filibuster rules to make them actually stand on the floor and argue ala Jimmy Stewart style--clearly a hallucination.
David,
As always, your posts are in tune with my own thinking. I give Anna Molly and Jody a lot of credit for taking these guys on - they have far more patience than I do; it's like arguing with doorknobs. More power to AM & Jody!
Continue to explore the World of Ideas, my friend.
Friday's Off-Topic Liberal Rant –
Yesterday, I attended an event sponsored by an organization that has dedicated the 30 years of its existence to assisting small businesses achieve success, and ultimately, to create jobs. Among the 400 people in the room were many dark-suited bankers.
The purpose of the meeting was to celebrate the organization’s anniversary and to honor some of the many success stories that have been generated as a result of the organization’s efforts.
If you’re wondering why I was there, it’s because I was invited. I like to think I was invited because the people at the top of the organization appreciate the services that I provide, which are calculated to allow them to focus on what they do best – serve the interests of small businesses.
Over the years, this organization has been involved in the creation of more than 60,000 jobs. The words “job creators” were in fact, used many times during the course of the program, and with some justification.
The point of this “rant” is that all of those 60,000 jobs, and all of the small business successes that this organization, and their lender partners, have achieved, have involved either direct assistance or loan guarantees from the United States Small Business Administration.
That's right. The SBA.
The bankers in that room, many of whom were from small, community banks, probably owe much of their personal success to the SBA and to the organization we were there to honor. The involvement of the SBA allows those bankers to lend the necessary money to start-up and expanding businesses with some security that they will not assume too much risk.
Instead, WE the people assume that risk on behalf of all of us. Because a long time ago, we decided, as a society, that the costs to all of us for assuming that risk were worth it.
One of the program speakers, a Native American who was an award recipient himself for his work with small businesses within his own community, participates in screening loans for the organization. He joked that he had no difficulty saying no to loan requests when warranted.
This, of course, goes to the notion we hear derided out here of the federal government picking “winners” and “losers” among businesses. Folks, that is EXACTLY what the SBA does, every single day. Yet, not once have I heard a single conservative – even Rick Perry – speak out in favor of abolishing the SBA.
And I’m darn sure that none of the bankers in that room yesterday would ever do that, either.
Extrapolate the job creation numbers of this organization across the entire country and you have at least 3 million jobs created through SBA assistance. And there is more than one organization of this kind even in my own state. The true number is, no doubt, much higher.
Not represented at the event, were all of the vendors, builders, and other collateral businesses who have benefited over the years by the organization’s efforts on behalf of its small business clients. They, too, are indirect recipients of government assistance, whether they view it that way, or not. The jobs they create can also be attributed, at least indirectly, to SBA assistance.
So, for you conservatives who keep insisting that the federal government has no role in job creation, I’m here to tell you first hand that YOU don’t know how it works.
I’ll be off-line most of the day again, doing that day job I mentioned yesterday. If I took anything away from that program yesterday, it’s that what I do has value and dignity, despite what conservatives here like to say. I’m thankful for that lesson, which came with lunch.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
Wasn't it John McCain that said electing Barry would be Jimmy Carter's second term??
Ouch!!!!
Gallup
Obama polling like Carter
Gallup has some historical perspective on President Obama's current 43 percent approval rating. The polling firm finds that only Jimmy Carter had an approval rating lower at this point in his presidency:
President Obama's 43% average job approval rating last month ranks as one of the lowest for an elected president in November of his third year in office. Only Jimmy Carter had a lower rating, at 40%. But Carter's rating surged in late November 1979 because of a rally in support after the onset of the Iranian Hostage Crisis, and he averaged above 50% in December. All recently elected presidents were at or above 50% in December of their third year in office.
Obama's November average is improved from his 41% averages in August, September, and October, but looks weaker from a historical perspective. His job approval rating has been highly stable in recent weeks, but if it does not increase significantly this month, he will be the first elected president in Gallup records to be below 50% in December of his third year in office.
The Democrats are stealing from their most sacred program, Social Security, to buy some votes for next years election. Social Security is a pay-as-you-go system where money coves in from payroll taxes from the workers each month, and that money is immediately sent out to the retirees. Now Obama and his idiotic Democratic party want to continue to vastly reduce that amount of money coming in to service the SS debt.
The trouble is how to pay for it. The GOP wants to reduce a bloated government to service the additional debt. You know, make government smaller and more efficient. The Democrats, to their true nature, want to raise taxes. And not just any taxes, but income taxes. Taxes that will go to the general fund, and not back fill the loses to support Social Security. Social Security, on financially insecure ground today, will fail that much quicker with the Democrats plan. So I guess the Democrats hate the elderly and want grand-ma to die, at least that is what the Democrats and the media would be saying if this were a Republican proposal.
God, this "WHO'S IT GONNA BE" $hitshow every week is sickening.
It's like watching a bunch of 3 legged dogs run a race, even though they all suck, of course there's going to be a leader at any given point.
Im calling Jon Huntsman comes in the lead late in the race. Yet .....he used logic when he talked about downsizing the military and focusing more on intelligence and Spec Ops forces to combat terrorism. So the people that never served, yet wrap themselves in flag any chance they get, will take issue with that.
Jody: You do get extra credit on your jobs prediction. I posted before realizing that the job market is improving.
________________________________
Dr. Ron: A reduction in the unemployment rate due to discouraged unemployed workers dropping out of the survey could hardly be called " the job market is improving", unless you are a clueless Barry ass-kissing lefty liberal. Oh yeah, that's right, you are one. My bad.
In case the idiot from Alabany missed his 'leader of the pack's' memo yesterday, I'll refresh his memory;
JoAnnaSmith1
The problem with you DBO (one of many) is you get too enamored with the early polls and act like they actually mean something. You also believe the leftist crap FR keeps pumping out in their articles (recall Newts campaign was declared dead months ago).
Lets worry less about polls and let the voters decide, mm-kay?
#1.15 - Thu Dec 1, 2011 9:03 AM CST
Unless, he's Joey is trying to have it both ways...
The libbies are all getting a little dizzy over the jobless rate dropping from 9% to 8.6% in November! How precious!
Should someone tell them that this is just a seasonal bump and happens every year because of the holidays? And that those seasonal numbers will drop again in January...... nah, let them have their fun, it's the season for it!
We own three UPS Stores and increased our staffing 12% thru mid January with temporary employees..... can't afford to keep them on any longer....
Typical FR headline: Gingrich struggles to expand campaign.
FR headlines you'll never see:
- Obama struggles with defining a budget
- Obama struggles with his massive deficit spending
- Democrats struggle with developing some kind of a cohesive message on the economy
- Harry Reid struggles with remembering what his job is
- Pelosi struggles with insider trader allegations
- Obama struggles with connecting with the American people
We get it though FR. We know who ya'are for, and who ya'are against.
I really believe that the GOP is not as interested in the presidency this time around as in control of both branches of Congress. Note, their best candidates are sitting this one out. Now, in 2016, let's see who runs. Early predictions - Barber, Christie, Jeb Bush. If not Bush, then Rubio. They want to lock up Florida in 2016.
Have any of you grown up in an area where when the crops were due in and school was called out to enable older (10 and up) children to allow them to work the fields. I know I did and I also know that my friends in Northern Maine also did (Potatoes need digging and fruit needs picking)
My oh My - the RWNJ's are certainly are sweating the reduction in the the unemployment numbers this morning.
See the problem for them is, the average voter doesn't give a rats ass as to WHY they came down, all they are paying attention to is, the fact they HAVE!
Carry on with your spinning...
It's a tough day to be a tea bagger - Newt Gingrich crowns himself 'King' & unemployment #'s drop dramatically! lol
David Walker.......
It is possible to reveal truth to almost anyone through presentation of irrefutable facts and rigorous logic. At least, it is possible to exhaust them of intelligent rebuttal.
Still, it is true that some folks, even when faced with such an undeniable argument, retreat into emotional rationalizations. These are unreachable. Fortunately, they are relatively rare. They can usually be identified as those plugging their ear canals with their fingers while ululating.
Conservatives are not necessarily unintelligent. Their condition is caused by some combination of deficiencies in their anterior prefrontal cortex together with life experiences for which they could not construct coping mechanisms. This usually leads to an amoral outlook comorbid with paranoid ideology. (Social) rules do not constrain them. On the contrary, they consider those rules as only devices to be exploited by imposition upon others.
Of course, there is a "normal" spectrum ranging from the ordinary fiscal conservative through the extreme social misanthrope. Beyond these lie the psychopaths and sociopaths.
We (liberals) should never abandon these folks anymore than a physician should turn away from patients merely because they present difficult cases.
David Walker, terrific post; I agree, we post facts for a reason and it isn't to argue with the deniers of fact on FR.
Pat, Boston, well said. We have our annual "freezin' for food" campaign this week which uses the "Hawkeye Hauler" semi-truck at the local Hy-Vee in conjunction with the local radio station and the Salvation Army. Next week, the "Hawkeye Hauler" heads to the auto dealer for the annual Toy Drive.
Ian Emdee, good points. It is also why we keep posting here, maybe some truth will hit home.
David - excellent post. I don't really like posting, but I feel compelled when I see out and out lies posted by the Bash Obama crowd. My reasons for calling them out are not to dissuade them, that would be pointless, but rather to enlighten other readers that may take them at face value.
One has to laugh at the Bash Obama crowd. The unemployement figure dropped today, and already one poster is claiming that further Obama bashing is necessary because the numbers are deceptive. While that is a good point to consider, I for one am glad we are seeing the number drop. It means the ship is slowly righting and we should all applaud that more people now have jobs, despite all the efforts of the right. But of course, the Obama bashers will not concede an ounce of credit.
If the unemployment figure was at -25%, the stock market was at 25,000, the Arab world were democratised with pro-American leaders, each American were issued a check for $1M for their 401k, the debt was eliminated, and taxes were at 0%, the Obama bashers would still be spouting their venomous nasty lies and remarks.
How does a (well) below average idiotic dolt know what the average voter thinks about the unemployment rate?
Let's have a story on why voter's hate obama. And how he and the democrats destroyed America.
In case the idiot from Alabany missed his 'leader of the pack's' memo yesterday, I'll refresh his memory;

Good News
The U.S. unemployment rate fell last month to its lowest level in more than 2 1/2 years.

The Bad News is for No Jo, Joeey in Albany, Spanky, Lady Sniff, and all the other RWNJS it had nothing to do with GW Bush
Forget all these "focus groups" just as reliable as "economists"
Bottom line? How well will the guy do verses the absolute disaster in the White House who only knows how to campaign, golf, incite class and race warfare and get kick backs from Wall Street after $ 1 Trillion + in hand outs of taxpayer money and more debt?
Rick Perry would clobber Obama, Mitt should be a landslide now that the DNC gave up on representing working class citizens, and the democrats fail to recognize that you can't spend yourself into prosperity and out of debt.
See the problem for them is, the average voter doesn't give a rats ass as to WHY they came down, all they are paying attention to is, the fact they HAVE!

That's because the average voter is a moron. How do you think Barry got elected??
Sniffy -- we'll wait for your answer...
*jeopardy music playing in the background*
There you have it folks - straight from the tea baggers lips to YOUR ears...
They believe the average voters are morons...
Nice eh?
Yeah, isn't that a hoot when those knuckleheads start their back-slapping? That goes back to the old LibsRUs tree house gang when they would scheme behind the scenes on who would be the "Cheerleaders" that day. It was funny then, and it's funnier now.
Think about it, this gang of 15 or so actually plan strategies on how they'll post. How pathetic is that?
Wouldn't that same thing be true for the Republicans who were elected to Congress in 2010?
Sorry I missed our latest planning meeting. I was busy. Did I miss anything - aside from pointing out that snuffy needs, lord, she needs so much help I don't where to start - prozac maybe?

Regarding your comment that right wingers like Newt lack heart -
I was thinking yesterday about the difference between charities working to end homelessness and poverty and the government taking steps to deal with social problems.
In my town, we are currently awash with dysfunctional type people crowding the shelters and soup kitchens and panhandling on the street. Portland has always had it's share of the lost and broken coming here from other parts of the state to sleep on the streets, listen to their voices and beg for money. I am as charitable as the next person, but when these folks reach a critical mass, I want my city to do something to protect me from the criminal element and the alcoholics who prey on pedestrians just trying to get home.
My church helps serve food to the homeless, and that is Christian charity, saving souls, but it is the role of government to organize help for these folks, for the sake of the community, as well as the faltering individuals. In my city, businesses are chipping in to get these people off the streets, because the loitering homeless turn off customers, as well as it being the Christian reponsibility of all us to help those in need. This is why I am a Democrat - I beleive in having a heart and in a community working together for solutions that benefit all of us.
It's tough for the Left to understand complex things, like the unemployment. They're kind of primordial in that want simple answers to complex problems, essentially so they can believe what ever they want to believe. The unemployment number is a great example of the small brain-ness of the Liberals. Here's what the evil bankers think of the the unemployment statistics.
I find nothing surprising in the focus group comments except for the support for Newt. I do not see Gingrich as being a good candidate at all. I think that his ethics and morals are highly questionable. When it come down to it, I fully expect that Romney will become the nominee as the one who is the least objectionable to the largest group of people. Romney may not be the first choice of that many people but he is an acceptable choice for the large majority of voters. Those that do not put him as their first choice still have him ranked pretty highly, in second or at worst third. This is in contrast to Gingrich who is first on some people's list and dead last or close to it on others. Of all the candidate, I think that John Huntsman has some of the best ideas but for some reason he is ignored by the media and has not been able to build up any significant support. You can debate whether the lack of support is why the media ignores him or that the media ignoring him keeps him from getting his name and views out and generating support. Either way, he does not seem to have any chance at all of getting nominated. I would bet that half the voters out there do not even know he is running.
Just an observation:Who gets credit for the 8.6% number? The "do nothing" GOP House or the President? Seems that some bloggers were deriding the GOP congress with their "where are the jobs" daily chants.
Don't get me wrong, I don't operate under the illusion that the President won't get reelected but seems to be a whole lot of "double" speak on this blog.
Remove the partisan blinders and try to look at the forest.
January's employment number will be the real test.
I'm a Libertarian and I believe in the same thing. Money is tight in our household but there are others that have less money so we donate what we can. I don't like tooting my own horn but there are other snide, cynical, and immature posters on this blog who will hurl insults at the drop of a dime so they can make themselves feel good.
After the 2003 wildfires, our local Catholic church asked the community to donate items, clothes, what have you for those who lost their homes. The turnout was overwhelming. We were dropping off items and someone asked my wife "what are you going to do with that container?" my wife said "you can have it " and the person started crying and was so thankful. Don't know why I retold that story other than to illustrate every little bit helps.
Joe Albany
You really are a twit, you know that? Did you catch the part of the jobs report where AUGUST, SEPTEMBER and OCTOBER were revised UP? Who is manipulating the jobs numbers? I'd say something is certainly fishy when you baggers GLEEFULLY proclaimed August a Dead End,...and yet, when the facts bear out - it wasn't as bad as you all hoped.
Yeah, I said it, you HOPE it struggles,...because let's face it,...your team can't win on ideas, or policies or any other meaningful and legitimate win,...you will only win if President Obama fails. And quite frankly, that 'HOPE' from your bench sickens me as it should sicken ALL Americans.

Consider this your notice that we are officially REJECTING your application to be a member of the Treehouse. Quite frankly, you don't measure up to the integrity and character of the other members and we simply don't grade on the curve.
You might apply for friendship with the O-Man Haters Club,...it's about all you have left to look forward to,...
Like Gingrich, Romney and the other wannabees - No thanks!
Zing!
Good one Clara! lmao
The idiot from Albany would be better served applying to the "Outhouse' club, with the stench wafting off of him, he would be a perfect fit!
phinephancy: Sorry I missed our latest planning meeting.
Phine you're not suppose to talk about your nightly "Strategy" meetings.
That's what got the LibsRUs crowd exposed the first time.
So play dumb and act like you are all thinking independently.
Saddly, the only ones you are fooling is yourselves.
Dear Ron:
I have one prediction. Romney will be the GOP nominee. Actually, I have two predictions. Romney will be the GOP nominee and President Obama will beat him in a landslide.
Oh, and one more prediction. There will be an undefeated football team this season. And it won't be the Colts or Pats.
Wait, I just thought of another one.
Bobby Valentine will not lead us to the WS.
Wouldn't that same thing be true for the Republicans who were elected to Congress in 2010?

Poor, POOR Joanna: friendship seems to be such an alien concept to her. She can't process in her little brain that people actually make friends here that they care about.
Seems sad in this season when we are reminded by faith of the importance of family and friends.
One must feel very sorry for her, since it is clear. Poor Smiffy can't process what friendship is since she has none.
But, it is not too late for her to find the milk of human kindness and make some!
So for Joanna this year: I hope you find friends.
this just in, part of Obama's speech at a fundraiser this week:
What!? As carrot top would say 'from the mouth of the ass directly to your ears!"
It wasn't too long ago Obama told the UN that Israel should give back all land acquired since the war in the 1960's... I'm pretty sure the Israeli's would dispute these comments from the annoited one, lol!

Thanks Clara Bell. I did click on the link to join the libsrus group only to see if there was a purity test where I would have to swear my allegience to raising taxes, massive deficit spending on govt giveaway programs and regulating businesses to death. Your sincere rejection tells me all I need to know. I am not now, and never will be a lefty liberal. Thank you.
BTW, how 'bout the stock market this week!!!!
Well said my Progressive Friends.
It's becoming more obvious that neither the Democrats, Republicans, or Obama are going to do anything about about the debt/deficits. The goals are lofty, cut a trillion here, and cut a trillion there, start a commission here, end a commission there, but no successes are ever seen. It's going to take a situation like we see in Europe for the pols to wake up and actually do something about it.
Who do you think will suffer most when the US is forced to implement austerity measures? My guess is the people on Social Security because it seems that the current pols in Washington think stealing money away from that program is a good idea.
Mitt and newt are habitual liars ... they will say anything ... how can anyone trust a man that will tell each group just what they want to hear .. reminds me of the local POL that went to the church supper and said we need tighter gun laws the next day at the rod and gun club told those folks we need to relax our gun laws .. anything to please the crown thats Mitt and Newt ..no real honest opinion on anything ... just please the crowd
I am still amazed at the hypocrisy of the GOP/TP. If any self respecting, morally righteous, christian family values Repub votes for Gingrich, it just further proves that their Christianity is in name only and POLITICS & platforms are really what rule their heart and character. The hatred of Mr. Obama seems to prevail over anything else (even the love of Christ). The American Christian witness is really pathetic on the politcal front.
Have to agree with that statement. Seems the only litmus test for "conservatives/modern day GOP" is: are you anti-abortion and do you oppose gay marriage? Do you support deficit spending to fund needless wars/nation building?
First Read is nothing more than a liberal propaganda outlet, with its own "opinion" posters right at the front of the line firring off cheesy jokes and tired cliques
It seems you are confused (and unpure,...but that's another point for another day) - You DO belong to the party of Massive Deficit Spending and Government Giveaway programs (to oil and banks) - But I guess that is the reason you're just a little 'c', right? And not a Con?
to coin you,...I am laughing my @ss off at YOU!
Nice try, the unemployment dropped because most of the numbers are people that have now moved to the hardcore unemployed.
@ Feisty,
You crack me up, girl. Love your posts.
Excuse me counselor, but surely you see the logical inconsistency in these statements from your rant. If "WE the people" are assuming some risk, then necessarily there is no guarantee the SBA is picking a "winner." To the contrary, the SBA takes a stab at funding those entities they deem most likely to succeed, but rather than picking a winner (which the administration tried to do with Solyndra) they're taking a chance their assessment of the future success of that entity will be correct. If they're wrong, then we the people pay the tab. So they're not picking winners, they're picking those they think are most likely to benefit from their assistance just like any bank that issues a loan.
I would also point out that SBA has enjoyed bipartisan support over the years. The main criticism of SBA is not that it's a bad agency that should be abolished, but that their review procedures can be slow and cumbersome. Indeed, "small business" is right up there with hot dogs and apple pie in the pantheon of virtuous American icons and I frankly can't recall any Republican (except maybe Ron Paul) who is advocating the demise of SBA. But that doesn't stop you from brandishing SBA as an example of misguided Republican attempts to dismantle government.
Furthermore, while you like to cite Rick Perry in your anti-Republican screeds, surely it has not escaped your attention that Perry is polling in the single digits. So even while Republican voters are dismissing Perry's act, you brandish him as the poster boy for Republican ills. Yet the current reality is that Romney and Gingrich are at the top of the heap. Both of these folks are steeped in the ways of big government and neither has advocated its wholesale dismantling. Instead, their philosophy is much more incremental and seeks to limit the ever expanding size of government and its gratuitous interference in our lives and the economy.
These may be inconvenient truths for you, but they are truths nonetheless.
@D.Man - thanks for the shout out!

Well, the old frog is back. Moving kind of slow today, first day off the pain meds for my back, but I think I'm on the mend which will make my collie happy because she misses her playmate.
Well, I see the usual suspects are all here and we're getting the usual rants and raves. Nice to see some things really never change isn't it?
You'll know it's the end of the world when Feisty posts how much she admires Mitt Romney or Joanna finally admits her undying admiration for my wit and wisdom. Since I don't think the end of the world is nigh I would'nt hold my breath waiting for those posts.
But, just for moment, let's look at the information MSNBC/FIRST READ has provided us with today. The focus group data is beyond fascinating and very telling. But the devil is in the details and often what is NOT said is more telling that what IS said.
I'm not surprised by the results regarding Mitt, but I'm almost shocked by the results for Newt. How soon they forget. Wow, just simply wow. GOP voters do not appear to have good memories or the ability to do critical thinking.
The Newt G they responded to in the focus group could not possibly be the Newt Gingrich who used to be in Congress. It must be a totally different guy.
A different, yet I believe, related development.....
I note, with great interest, that the LDS stopped running their "I'm a Mormon" ads. I guess they finally realized they weren't fooling anybody but the federal election commission and decided they'd better stop reminding people that Mitt could be in one of those ads as well.
Which brings me to the great big fat elephant in the room. To NO ONE'S surprise, not a single person appears to have mentioned Mitt's religious preference. Actually, given the polling regarding the American perception of the Mormon Church that is a very revealing omission. I continue to believe that it is the "stealth negative" that will ultimately derail the Romney presidential run.
Don't be fooled. Newt will implode. He will self-destruct and drop dead in the polls just like Bachman, Perry, and Cain before him. Huntsman, Paul and Santorum (who?) never managed to resonate with the base in any way.
Mitt Romney will be the nominee. It's his turn.
But that focus group data is very telling. More please, MSNBC, more hard data and less speculation please.
Plunk you magic twanger froggy
Have a great weekend everybody..and I do mean everybody, because at the end of the day we are all Americans and if we do not hang together we will surely all hang separately. So hang in there :-)
Obama/Biden 2012
You DO belong to the party of Massive Deficit Spending and Government Giveaway programs (to oil and banks)
_____________________________________________
Clara Bell: the federal budget deficit in 2007 was less than $200 billion. Each of Barry's deficits is well north of $1 trillion. The tax provisions that benefit oil companies could have been repealed in 2009 when Dems had an overwhelming majority in the house and a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate and the WH. They chose not to do so. Those "giveaways" are now owmed by the Dems. Are you aware that the American taxpayers got paid back every penny from TARP given to the Wall street banks and made a multi-billion dollar profit on that money?? I thought not.
BTW, I don't belong to ANY political party. And to celebrate this week's stock market and the relatively warm temps, filet and AK sockeye Salmon on the grill, with a few ice cold Sam Adam's is definitely on for Saturday, and maybe Sunday too.
The 2007 budget defecate did not include the billions of dollars
for the wars … try again.
Of course, there's no guarantee. That was MY point, too. But thanks for restating the obvious.
My post is only meant to illustrate that the risk of failure (i.e., picking a loser) is considered acceptable by conservatives when the SBA does it, but somehow it's not acceptable when it's done under another government program, such as the one that chose Solyndra for a loan guarantee.
And I would remind you that the actual program Solyndra participated in was started during the Bush administration. In fact, Solyndra submitted its application before President Obama took office. When Obama became President he made funding for that program part of the stimulus package.
I'm still waiting for a conservative to discuss facts and figures regarding the success of the entire program, not just the cherry-picked failures.
In any event, apparently, neither Bush nor the conservatives in Congress thought there was anything wrong with that kind of risk-taking when the program was first set up.
What on earth are you talking about? I've never said Republicans want to get rid of the SBA. I know darn well they don't. I bring it up sometimes so that conservatives will see the hypocrisy of their positions.
Obviously, it has bi-partisan support, and that's because everyone benefits from it. But sometimes, it picks a loser, and you know it. So does every program of that nature.
That fact alone doesn't mean we should get rid of it. As I said above, you have to evaluate the program as a whole, rather than demonizing the entire concept because part of it doesn't work out.
It's sort of like saying, as conservatives repeatedly do, that the stimulus didn't work, when in fact it worked, but just not enough.
Easy does it, buddy. I only mentioned Perry because he's the one -- if you will recall -- who was determined to announce which three agencies he felt should be eliminated -- and the SBA was not among them.
Using Perry as an example was kind of a joke, which you might have seen had you had any sense of humor.
So what? They're YOUR problem, not mine.
But neither has anyone else advocated getting rid of the SBA.
That was my whole point, although obviously, you missed it.
Why am I not surprised?
I'm still waiting to hear these "truths" you're talking about, inconvenient or otherwise.
Have a great weekend, Bill, and get an avatar, will you?
Little Freudian slip there Dennis. Not that I disagree.
I believe the main criticism of the Soyndra deal was a charge of crony capitalism by the Obama Administration.
I think I get your main point about "conservatives" possible hypocrisy regarding Government creating jobs in the private sector. Don't necessarily agree with the extrapolation/semantics though.
It might not have been crony capitalism as much as it was over-enthusiasm for producing results to show success from the stimulus and demonstrate a commitment to alternative energies.
But, since you brought it up, for Republican crony capitalism, I need only give you Halliburton. For an added bonus, I give you all of the campaign contributors in Texas that Rick Perry funneled state funds to.
Check that out on the google. Hundreds of millions of dollars.
The problem with all of this is campaign finance laws. I'm all for changing them. You?
Of course, not because conservatives are in constant denial as to the role the federal government actually plays in the economy.
And that's my whole point.
Got any statistics that might call the extrapolation into question?
First, Romney will never be nominated for a very simple reason, and I know it's very Ad Hom to bring up, but, HE BELIEVES IN MAGIC UNDERWEAR! Lol, I mean, how can a POTUS believe in magic underwear???
The only GOP candidate who will, without a doubt, take the White House if he gets the nomination is Ron Paul.

The 2007 budget defecate did not include the billions of dollars
for the wars … try again.
________________________
Sorry, Dennis, but, you are proof of my statement that the average voter is a moron. The war costs were "off budget" for purposes of passing the annual federal budget. The war costs budget was funded by "emergengy appropriations bills" outside of the regular budget process.
The federal deficit is a very simple calculation at the end of the federal fiscal year that subtracts all amounts paid out in cash by the federal govt from all amounts received in cash for the federal fiscal year 10/01-09/30. ALL the costs of the wars are included in the under $200 billion 2007 federal fiscal year. Don't believe me?? go to the CBO website and see for yourself.
LMAO!!!!
Joe you need to reread what I said … it is accurate. I said “Budget deficit”.
I have worked as an account and planning manager. I fully understand the meaning of a deficit and the difference between a deficit and a debt which many do not.
so dennis got the government links supporting the "off the books" funding of the iraq and afganistan conflicts. Like david walker wants to promote "talking with idiots" how about the links supporting your assertion.
BTW - Government for years, even before the bush's, reagans, clintons and whomever used misdirection in how funds were spent by allocating funds to innocuous sounding programs. Got supportive links?

AM - First of all don't "ass u me" that because I disagree with you doesn't make me a conservative....actually more Libertarian than anything. Crony capitalism is crony capitalism whether there is a D or R in front of it. Thought maybe I could hold a rational conversation with you but so far, you've proven me wrong.
The extrapolation I disagree with is SBA loans create jobs therefore the Government created...jobs maybe your key sentence is: "the role the federal government actually plays in the economy." Yes, the SBA(Govt) guarantees those loans and I'm guessing taxpayers are on the hook for failed loans. But the entrepreneur is the one who envisioned the idea for a marketable product sold to a consumer(s). I agree the SBA loan is the vehicle for that business, but that is still the private sector that created those jobs.
Absolutely...you think yourself or I could actually win a congressional seat without being in someone else's pocket? Not exactly the founders vision. I realize it happens on BOTH sides but recently the President flew into San Diego, motorcaded to a very exclusive area and charged 35,000 per photo with him. Not picking on the President, but if that's what any citizen has to do to get elected to any office, that is pretty sad.
Remember neither party holds a monopoly on virtue.
For those of you who don't get it yet...I'm going to make it easy to understand. Romney is smart. Earned 2 Harvard degrees in the time it took Obama to get 1.
Understands the economy, reads it like a book.
Has executive experience, understands executive power and how to use it.
Governor, had to balance the budget, understand legislation, turned Mass. economy around and left with a surplus.
Olympic Games, turned completely around, saved it, left it with huge surplus. Most efficient and successful games in history.
Bain Capitol, created it, huge success today, created and turned around many companies.
Has integrity, honesty, and character as testified by all who have worked with him and all who know him. Gives selfless service always for free.
Gingrich--Legislator with ideas for bills and legislation, but no way of getting anything passed...as admitted in his interview with Greta VanSusteran last night.
No friends, no endorsements, those he worked with in congress will not support or endorse him. Clinton and Pelosi have spoken for him.
Only Speaker in American history to be found guilty of ethics violations for using his non-profit organizations to further his political career, fined $300,000.
Asked to resign by his own party and forced to leave Washington, thrown out of office.
Supported Hillary care, Al Gore global warming.
Unethical book deal while in congress.
Overseeing impeachment hearings for Clinton, while being threatened by Clinton with exposure for doing the same thing with Gingrich's staffers.
Shut down the government, losing his temper for not liking his seating place on Air Force One on the way home from Rabin's funeral.
Took millions of the people's money from Fannie Mae to soften up republicans on capitol hill and make the path for Fannie smoother before the Fannie Freddie downfall.
Had affairs on wife #1, argued with her in the hospital after uterin cancer surgery, left her and abandoned his children. Married wife #2 whom he had affair with. Had affairs on wife #2 and left her when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Married wife #3 whom he had an affair with for 6 years and now wants to be first lady.
Gingrich now wants to be known by this generation as a statesman. Appears smart, knowledgeable. 60 years of bad temper, undisciplined arrogant behavior.
Does he have character, keep his oathes and honor the office he holds? No. Is he honest with his fellowman? No. Is his word his bond? No.
Good starter and talker, not a good finisher as evidenced by all above.
Long lengthy record in Washington as an insider, lobbyist, taking government money by the millions for shady jobs.
Definitely Romney 2012!!
BIGGEST MEDIA MYTH
The nomination is Romney's to lose. 100 miles outside Boston -- 100 miles outside DC -- outside the state of UT, no one believes he is the "one".
Mitt is the media darling, the chief recipient of MSNBC cheerleading, and the personal choice of NE moderates. None of this, a Republican nominee makes.
Grass roots do not want Mitt -- pure and simple.
<raising hand>
Oh! Mee!
<waving hand all around>
Meee! Call on me!! Meeeee!
"The same way Bush did..."
Sally... there you go again... living in the real world!
Why you wanna do that when libbieland is so much nicer... not real... but nicer. LOL!
I must admit though... it will be fun to watch their heads spin right off in January.
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
Romney has a problem that can't be openly acknowledged, in that he does not profess Jesus Christ as his lord and saviour. Many republicans simply will not vote for a president that will not say they are Christian, they don't have to mean it, but they have to say it. Romney will be stuck where he is unless he flip flops on his religion, he won't be nominated by his party unless he can first be evangelized by his party.
"Unemployment rates drops to 8.6%:"
The fall in the jobless rate was aided by 315,000 people leaving the workforce.......Those who exited the workforce, many of whom gave up on looking for work, outnumbered the 278,000 people who found jobs
Since it takes about 160,000 new jobs per month, on average, just to keep up with normal growth in the work force, what this actually means is that we actually went BACKWARDS by about almost 200,000 jobs last month.
Only msnbc would consider this 'Great News' in a desperate attempt to prop up Obama. People who see through the 'smokescreen' of msnbc know that most of these jobs are only seasonal holiday jobs that will end in January. Of course, then msmbc will go back to reporting 'seasonally adjusted jobs' to mask the drop.
Their bias is too obvious.
So Roy by your numbers Bush should have created 15.3 million jobs during his 8 years instead of a couple million. Right ??!!
Meee! Call on me!! Meeeee!
"The same way Bush did..."

By the way, your 'answer' to Clara is lame. Not only do you have the door slammed in your face, but Clara's bootprint to remember her by.
It's kinda sad, really.
Oh well.
Uh, nope, Obama actually did get voted into office, he fed us Americans enough kool-aid to make us believe in him, and got enough votes to win.
Not to mention that SO many people were sick of Bush's BS as POTUS they would have voted for mickey mouse if that were the name on the democrat ticket, simply for the sake of not having another GOP there. I know I was one of those, although in truth I was really hoping Hillary would take it, I figured that under Bill Clinton's office he fixed what Reagan and Bush1 broke, maybe another Clinton could undo the damage that Bush 2 did.
But now it's been a few years, and the fact of the matter finally occured, it's true, doesn't matter who you choose, they're all the same Republicrat candidate, except for the one with over 30 years in Congress that stands by the Constitution 100% of the time in his voting record for that entire time in office. He predicted not only 9/11, but also the financial disaster we have been going through for these past few years, and his policies would have fixed both situations before they began! That's why I know Ron Paul is the countries last hope.
Joe you need to reread what I said … it is accurate. I said “Budget deficit”.
I have worked as an account and planning manager. I fully understand the meaning of a deficit and the difference between a deficit and a debt which many do not.
______________________________________
Regardless, the less than $200 billion 2007 federal deficit figure I quoted included ALL the war costs. So your original statement "The 2007 budget defecate did not include the billions of dollars for the wars" was addressing an issue that is irrelevant to my post. Just like your above statement about "the debt". I never referenced "the debt", why are you??
Moron.
You are definatly a c... Id say you are a big C
Why can Joe in Albany start his OWN group of like minded individuals?

Because conservatives don't need the validation of group-think from "like minded individuals" like lefty liberals do.
Dennis, Columbus, Ohio "So Roy by your numbers Bush should have created 15.3 million jobs during his 8 years instead of a couple million. Right ??!!"
No, but lets look at the numbers from the OFFICIAL government Bureau of Labor Statistics site;
Average jobs in 2000 (Clinton's last year) = 136,891,000.
Average jobs in 2008 (Bush's last year) = 145,362,000, for a net GAIN of 8,471,000 jobs (includes jobs last at the end of 2008).
Average jobs in 2010 (after 2 years of Obama) = 139,064,000, for a net LOSS 6,298,000 jobs.
The government site to verify these facts is as follows;
http://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsaat1.pdf
Just look at Employed - Total for each year.
Sorry if they don't agree with your 'pre-conceived notions', or the media's 'spin'.
roy wilson, do you know what an "economic contraction" is?
and it was not Obama that caused it.
Hmmm, unemployment number is down? I'll bet BO takes credit for that. He hasn't taken credit for anything else in three years. How can we be sure that wasn't something Bush caused????
LMAO Roy puts forth undisputable data and Dan deflects to some hidden blame bush comment
that's why they have faux news, rush limp-bag, gone beck, etc. people that tell conservative drones how to think in the first place so they don't need "group validation".
Anna Molly, I agree the SBA is a fine government organization and I suppose you could argue that it picks winners or losers from a government perspective although I dont see this as the government creating jobs. The jobs are still being created by private enterprise using the good credit of the USA to obtain the necessary financing that might not be obtainable somewhere else. Its similar to the government providing low interest financing for student loans that allow personal success from the education a student might achieve. No one argues that the government doesnt pick winners or losers as it does everyday in every bureaucracy from the tax code subsidizing people with kids over childless taxpayers or homeowners, oil companies, farmers etc. It picks winners and losers in the criminal code. Why does a crack seller get more time than a meth seller? I think when it comes to financial winners and losers its exacerbated by picking individual winners and trying to determine the outcome. Instead of acting like the SBA with GM and Chrysler, the government went ahead and circumvented law with a political favor for the unions by giving them ownership over the lenders. Its picking Solyndra and yes two wrongs dont make a right with Halliburton. Its trying to skew the outcome rather than provide the spark for investments and align incentives appropriately. But the SBA is a fine organization that its biggest fault is the typical application process and bureaucracy needed to get approved thats inherent in most government organizations.
Yuck yuck, Fisty! "advocates child slavery??? LMFAO...Where do you get this garbage? Pull it out of your diaper?
No prob with the employment stats either, witchy one! Wait'll the Jan and Feb stats come out and all the temps are laid off... Then there's the 330,000 who got dropped from unemployment roles!
Go ahead girly, take your shot, but keep the sights out of the usual gutter.
tony, newt advocates eliminating the anti child-slavery laws, what does that sound like to you?
anyone for farming out their kids to make a few bucks? newt says its OK.
not going to happen, that rate was already adjusted for the seasonal job change. sorry to burst your idealogical bubble, but the economy is slowly recovering despite Bush and his cronies best attempts to destroy it.
Sorry danwill, but with our debt continuously growing, Europe on the brink of economic failure, and a POTUS that choses to sit it out on the golf course and the campaign trail, we are in for some hard times ahead like you ain't never seen before! I truly hope I'm wrong, but I (and many others on the left and right) fear the worst is yet to come! Oh, and get over your Bush BS, will ya!
The 1 percent love Republicans"
So Roy, are the numbers the end of the story? Hardly. Bush's first few years were a net loss of jobs due to the tech bubble bursting and then 9/11. Was this Bush's fault? No.
Then what happened? The housing bubble started to grow which helped turn the economy around and allowed jobs to finally be added under Bush's administration. Then just 2 months before his 2nd term was up, the world was hit by the financial crisis . This lead to massive layoffs at the beginning of 2008.
Those layoffs would have occurred regardless of who became president.
Oh, and there were warnings throughout Bush's terms about the bubble even by Ron Paul as early as 2001. In 2006 Bush's reply to the housing bubble was this " If houses get too expensive, people will stop buying them". It shows the level of understanding the man brought to everything....which isn't very much.
You're too wound up with labels.
What exactly is a libertarian but a Republican who is conservative on economics and liberal on everything else -- in that weird sort of ways that libertarians have.
You're obviously way too wound up with labels. A rose is a rose is a rose. And an "ass" is an "ass" is an "idealogue."
And your purity of ideology puts you way too much in denial as to what the SBA's role is in developing business, judging by the way you had to torture your response to make it come out like the SBA plays no role at all.
That's just plain hogwash.
You should try telling that to the small businesses represented in that room yesterday. They'd laugh your purist ideology right out of the room.
You know that many of them would never have gotten the chance to try out their entrepreneurship if left solely to private sector purists like you.
Theories are all good till they ain't.
Feisty and friends.
It is clear that you feel your doing a great service to MSLSD. As a matter of fact you are. You have helped develop its reputation as the Least credible news source and most dispicable blog on line.
Have you ever contemplated adulthood ?
You and your cronies show that any attempt at partisanship in humanity is doomed. So the only way is your way...good luck!!!
Try again, Kirk.
A less ideological way of saying this would be to say that the government favored WORKERS over lenders, in order to save the greater economy from the disaster that would have occurred had all those folks lost their jobs.
But when you say it that way, you can't make it sound evil enough, can you, Kirk?
Jeez AM, you're to tightly wound to even attempt to hold an adult conversation. Mix in some critical thinking once in while instead of just launching into a rather immature, juvenile screed. Are you capable of holding a rational conversation with someone who doesn't necessarily agree with you?
In no way did I minimize the role of the SBA...but in your typical hyper partisan trite mind you choose to attack, attack , attack which is a sign of a very small and insecure person.
My point is the SBA or the government didn't actually create the job. SBA is a great example of Government helping the PRIVATE sector but the end of the day it's still a private sector job.
Government subsidies to large corporations in return for political favors now that is a waste of taxpayer money.
I think Metamucil is on sale...kind of remind me of Len Goodman from DWTS...
Have a nice weekend
no text...double post...it is Friday after all
I wonder how many people RETIRED in November? I know of two on my street,...
nahh,...people couldn't have POSSIBLY left the workforce for any reason other than downturn, right?
Dennis,
It is just STUNNING to know that the debt grew by over 5 Trillion dollars under W and yet those budgets were just so darn pretty and balanced,...priceless.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_policy_of_the_George_W._Bush_administration
nahh, it never happened,...man those W years were Golden, weren't they? I mean like Showers of Gold.
Well, golly ... Where exactly did I say it wasn't?
But that was NEVER the point. The point is that purists -- like you, I "ass u me" (your word, not mine) -- believe that government should have no role AT ALL in private sector business.
Government only interferes and "reg u lates," according to some of the fine conservative -- and libertarian -- minds out here.
Once in a while it's good to make them confront their delusions.
If the shoe fits ....
Don't be presumptuous. You're not even close to being in the same league as what I deal with day in and day out.
I was only playing with you.
Because you seem to be the one with your panties in a twist.
But to be frank, it wasn't all that much fun. Try again next week, okay?
p.s. I agree. Let's start with oil companies and Halliburton, and then move on to Koch Industries. You down with that?
danwill "roy wilson, do you know what an "economic contraction" is? and it was not Obama that caused it."
Yes, I know what an 'economic contraction' is. I have taken numerous economics classes. In fact, one of my favorite classes of all time was an economics class in my MBA program, where we had to make our own detailed forecast of GDP, including all of its major components, with detailed assumptions and backup.
As for 'it was not Obama that caused it' - Nor was it Bush that caused it - in fact, Bush made numerous attempts to stop the loose lending nonsense - starting just 3 months after he took office in 2001, as I will document in my next post.
J.Heron "Oh, and there were warnings throughout Bush's terms about the bubble even by Ron Paul as early as 2001"
And even Bush warned in April 2001, and numerous times thereafter, about the possibility of a housing crisis, but Democrats in Congress poo-pooed the idea. Here's a 'history lesson - with Detailed sources;
For those who want to blame the Bush Administration for lack of concern over the Sub-Prime mortgage crisis until it was too late, consider this:
2001 April (Only 3 months after Bush took office): The Bush Administration's FY02 budget declares that the size of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is "a potential problem," because "financial trouble of a large GSE (Government Sponsored Enterprise) could cause strong repercussions in financial markets, affecting Federally insured entities and economic activity." (2002 Budget Analytic Perspectives, pg. 142)
2002 May: The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) calls for the disclosure and corporate governance principles contained in the President's 10-point plan for corporate responsibility to apply to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (OMB Prompt Letter to OFHEO, 5/29/02)
2003 February: The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) releases a report explaining that unexpected problems at a GSE could immediately spread into financial sectors beyond the housing market.
2003 September: Then-Treasury Secretary John Snow testifies before the House Financial Services Committee to recommend that Congress enact "legislation to create a new Federal agency to regulate and supervise the financial activities of our housing-related government sponsored enterprises" and set prudent and appropriate minimum capital adequacy requirements.
2003 September: Then-House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Barney Frank (D-MA) strongly disagrees with the Administration's assessment, saying "these two entities – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – are not facing any kind of financial crisis … The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing." (Stephen Labaton, "New Agency Proposed To Oversee Freddie Mac And Fannie Mae," The New York Times, 9/11/03)
2003 October: Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE) refuses to acknowledge any necessity for GSE reforms, saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." (Sen. Carper, Hearing of Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, 10/16/03)
2003 November: Then-Council of the Economic Advisers (CEA) Chairman Greg Mankiw explains that any "legislation to reform GSE regulation should empower the new regulator with sufficient strength and credibility to reduce systemic risk." To reduce the potential for systemic instability, the regulator would have "broad authority to set both risk-based and minimum capital standards" and "receivership powers necessary to wind down the affairs of a troubled GSE." (N. Gregory Mankiw, Remarks At The Conference Of State Bank Supervisors State Banking Summit And Leadership, 11/6/03)
2004 February: The President's FY05 Budget again highlights the risk posed by the explosive growth of the GSEs and their low levels of required capital and calls for creation of a new, world-class regulator: "The Administration has determined that the safety and soundness regulators of the housing GSEs lack sufficient power and stature to meet their responsibilities, and therefore … should be replaced with a new strengthened regulator." (2005 Budget Analytic Perspectives, pg. 83)
2004 February: Then-CEA Chairman Mankiw cautions Congress to "not take [the financial market's] strength for granted." Again, the call from the Administration was to reduce this risk by "ensuring that the housing GSEs are overseen by an effective regulator." (N. Gregory Mankiw, Op-Ed, "Keeping Fannie And Freddie's House In Order," Financial Times, 2/24/04)
2004 April: Rep. Frank ignores the warnings, accusing the Administration of creating an "artificial issue." At a speech to the Mortgage Bankers Association conference, Rep. Frank said "people tend to pay their mortgages. I don't think we are in any remote danger here. This focus on receivership, I think, is intended to create fears that aren't there." ("Frank: GSE Failure A Phony Issue," American Banker, 4/21/04)
2004 June: Then-Treasury Deputy Secretary Samuel Bodman spotlights the risk posed by the GSEs and calls for reform, saying "We do not have a world-class system of supervision of the housing government sponsored enterprises (GSEs), even though the importance of the housing financial system that the GSEs serve demands the best in supervision to ensure the long-term vitality of that system. Therefore, the Administration has called for a new, first class, regulatory supervisor for the three housing GSEs: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banking System." (Samuel Bodman, House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Testimony, 6/16/04)
2005 April: Then-Secretary Snow repeats his call for GSE reform, saying "Events that have transpired since I testified before this Committee in 2003 reinforce concerns over the systemic risks posed by the GSEs and further highlight the need for real GSE reform to ensure that our housing finance system remains a strong and vibrant source of funding for expanding homeownership opportunities in America … Half-measures will only exacerbate the risks to our financial system." (Secretary John W. Snow, "Testimony Before The U.S. House Financial Services Committee," 4/13/05)
2005 July: Then-Minority Leader Harry Reid rejects legislation reforming GSEs, "while I favor improving oversight by our federal housing regulators to ensure safety and soundness, we cannot pass legislation that could limit Americans from owning homes and potentially harm our economy in the process." ("Dems Rip New Fannie Mae Regulatory Measure," United Press International, 7/28/05)
2007 August: President Bush emphatically calls on Congress to pass a reform package for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, saying "first things first when it comes to those two institutions. Congress needs to get them reformed, get them streamlined, get them focused, and then I will consider other options." (President George W. Bush, Press Conference, the White House, 8/9/07)
2007 August: Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Chairman Christopher Dodd ignores the President's warnings and calls on him to "immediately reconsider his ill-advised" position. (Eric Dash, "Fannie Mae's Offer To Help Ease Credit Squeeze Is Rejected, As Critics Complain Of Opportunism," The New York Times, 8/11/07)
2007 December: President Bush again warns Congress of the need to pass legislation reforming GSEs, saying "These institutions provide liquidity in the mortgage market that benefits millions of homeowners, and it is vital they operate safely and operate soundly. So I've called on Congress to pass legislation that strengthens independent regulation of the GSEs – and ensures they focus on their important housing mission. The GSE reform bill passed by the House earlier this year is a good start. But the Senate has not acted. And the United States Senate needs to pass this legislation soon." (President George W. Bush, Discusses Housing, the White House, 12/6/07)
2008 February: Assistant Treasury Secretary David Nason reiterates the urgency of reforms, saying "A new regulatory structure for the housing GSEs is essential if these entities are to continue to perform their public mission successfully." (David Nason, Testimony On Reforming GSE Regulation, Senate Committee On Banking, Housing And Urban Affairs, 2/7/08)
2008 March: President Bush calls on Congress to take action and "move forward with reforms on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They need to continue to modernize the FHA, as well as allow State housing agencies to issue tax-free bonds to homeowners to refinance their mortgages." (President George W. Bush, Remarks To The Economic Club Of New York, New York, NY, 3/14/08)
2008 April: President Bush urges Congress to pass the much needed legislation and "modernize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. [There are] constructive things Congress can do that will encourage the housing market to correct quickly by … helping people stay in their homes." (President George W. Bush, Meeting With Cabinet, the White House, 4/14/08)
2008 May: President Bush issues several pleas to Congress to pass legislation reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac before the situation deteriorates further. "Americans are concerned about making their mortgage payments and keeping their homes. Yet Congress has failed to pass legislation I have repeatedly requested to modernize the Federal Housing Administration that will help more families stay in their homes, reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to ensure they focus on their housing mission, and allow state housing agencies to issue tax-free bonds to refinance sub-prime loans." (President George W. Bush, Radio Address, 5/3/08)
"[T]he government ought to be helping creditworthy people stay in their homes. And one way we can do that – and Congress is making progress on this – is the reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. That reform will come with a strong, independent regulator." (President George W. Bush, Meeting With The Secretary Of The Treasury, the White House, 5/19/08)
"Congress needs to pass legislation to modernize the Federal Housing Administration, reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to ensure they focus on their housing mission, and allow State housing agencies to issue tax-free bonds to refinance subprime loans." (President George W. Bush, Radio Address, 5/31/08)
2008 June: As foreclosure rates continued to rise in the first quarter, the President once again asks Congress to take the necessary measures to address this challenge, saying "we need to pass legislation to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac." (President George W. Bush, Remarks At Swearing In Ceremony For Secretary Of Housing And Urban Development, Washington, D.C., 6/6/08)
2008 July: Congress heeds the President's call for action and passes reform legislation for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as it becomes clear that the institutions are failing.
2008 September: Democrats in Congress forget their previous objections to GSE reforms, as Senator Dodd questions "why weren't we doing more, why did we wait almost a year before there were any significant steps taken to try to deal with this problem? … I have a lot of questions about where was the administration over the last eight years." (Dawn Kopecki, "Fannie Mae, Freddie 'House Of Cards' Prompts Takeover," Bloomberg, 9/9/08)
Congress had for years blocked attempts at stronger regulation and blocked reform of the Federal Housing Administration.
House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) criticized the President's warning saying: "these two entities - Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - are not facing any kind of financial crisis ... The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing." (Stephen Labaton, "New Agency Proposed To Oversee Freddie Mac And Fannie Mae," New York Times, 9/11/03)
Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Chairman Christopher Dodd also ignored the President's warnings and called on him to "immediately reconsider his ill-advised" position. (Eric Dash, "Fannie Mae's Offer To Help Ease Credit Squeeze Is Rejected, As Critics Complain Of Opportunism," New York Times, 8/11/07)
President Bush publicly called for GSE reform at least 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress acted. Unfortunately, these warnings went unheeded, as the President's repeated attempts to reform the supervision of these entities were thwarted by the legislative maneuvering of those who emphatically denied there were problems. Many prominent Democrats, including House Finance Chairman Barney Frank, opposed any legislation correcting the risks posed by GSEs.
Political contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac overwhelmingly supported Democratic officials - in particular members of Democratic leadership:
Since 1989, Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) has received $165,400 from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (Lindsay Renick Mayer, "Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac Invest In Lawmakers," Center For Responsive Politics' "Capital Eye" Blog, www.opensecrets.org, 9/11/08)
Since 1989, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has received $77,000 from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (Lindsay Renick Mayer, "Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac Invest In Lawmakers," Center For Responsive Politics' "Capital Eye" Blog, www.opensecrets.org, 9/11/08)
Since 1989, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has received $56,250 from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (Lindsay Renick Mayer, "Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac Invest In Lawmakers," Center For Responsive Politics' "Capital Eye" Blog, www.opensecrets.org, 9/11/08)
Anna - Seems we have gotten off on the wrong foot...
Yes I am admittedly a constitutional purist but I don't neccesarily believe that the Federal Govt. has NO role in the private sector. I see now where I may have come off as the "get the GOVT the he double hockey sticks out of the way" of business.
I believe in a limited role of the Federal Government in the private sector. Now that is a broad statement and I'm sure we'll got round and round but I'm game.
Seriously, I'm not as tightly wound as I came off today...If the "what I go through" daily" is in reference to this blog then I can see where you have to go "shields up"
BTW "ass u me" comes from "Bad News Bears in Breaking Training" when Walter Matthau said " never assume that way you don't make an @ss out of u or me" wrote it on a chalk board as ass|u|me.
Peace
Roy Wilson
Very informative post, but I am afraid Your efforts to educate the Dems will be in vain, kind of like trying to give a set of encyclopedias to pigs, They will have no idea of the value of the information they have been given, will probably just look upon it with simple minded humor because they can't figure it out or eat it, so then in the end they will just poop all over it and babble among themselves about other how silly it was for You to give them such useless things.
Results of last night’s Senate payroll tax cut plans:
Democratic plan failed 51-49, failing to get the 60 votes needed to move forward.
Republican plan failed 20-78 with half of Republican Senators voting against their own plan.
Dennis, do you think that maybe some of these GOP senators are looking at some private polling numbers, and are worried about reelection?
I think it was more about voting for a bill that calls for the elimination of
200,000 jobs and how that would play with the voters.
As the holiday season gets underway, more than ever, the need to help our fellow man is underscored by the requests we read in the newspapers and hear about through churches and neighborhood organizations. Many are in need of so much to make the holidays a little brighter. Please, if you can, donate to the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, find a Giving Tree through your church or neighborhood. Many malls have these trees, you choose a card with the request, purchase while you shop and drop it off, your generosity will make a child’s Christmas a happy memory. New clothes as well as toys are always well received especially with the preteens and teenagers.
Many of our fellow citizens are having a hard time feeding their families and have little money to bring a smile to a child’s face on Christmas morning, so please make an extra effort to help where you can. Even a few coins in the collection bucket can make a difference.
It is the season for giving and sharing, do so with joy.
Thank you.
So, basically Dennis, it wasn't for the good of the country, but the retention of power.
Gingerbread Mamma, I hope everyone will follow you caring advice.
Dennis, the fact that only 20 republicans voted for their own bill speaks volumes. What frustrates me is the filibuster again blocks the Constitution which clearly states a simple majority is all that's required to pass most legislation. You're right about the 200,000 jobs the bill cuts, too. I also think that republicans are looking at the polls and they know what the 99% Occupy movement represents.
GBM having worked down at the Church this Thanksgiving I can say while donations are up some this year requests for aid is at a high level this year to. Don't make no difference what you do or how you do it make it a point this year to do all you can and then a little bit more. It'll come back to you 10 fold.
Looks like Mitch McConnell is losing control of his normally robot-like Republican Senate caucus. A majority of them voted against his idiotic scheme to pay for a payroll tax cut by reducing the federal workforce (also known as "killing jobs during a recession).
Maybe Republicans are beginning to realize that raising taxes on the majority of voters to protect the ultra-rich minority from a small tax increase is going to be hard to sell to the public, especially when they all have sworn a blood oath to Grover Norquist never ever ever to raise taxes no way no how, no matter how badly the country needs revenue to survive.
The drop in the unemployment rate is more bad news for poor ol' Mitch. Looks like his strategy of blocking economic recovery to achieve his Number One goal of defeating Obama isn't working out quite as well as he'd hoped.
No carrot top, but most average voters do think truck stop trolls and most FR libbies certainly act like morons! Getting a little close to home for ya old gal?
Hi IR, we have found that too at our church. The need is overwhelming and it is for so much more than toys. It breaks my heart to pick a card from an 11 yr old girl who just asks for some new clothes which I got and I hope it makes her smile. If everyone can do a little bit it will help a lot. As you say the rewards are great.
GBM I tell you what's breaking my heart this year having picked up several Angel tree requests is the number of kids that are asking for something for Momma or Daddy or their siblings. We got to do better somehow.
Robin,
Where are you from Southern New Mexico, you might as well be a Texan. We are liberals up in the north. Please don't make my state look so bad.
Are you people just too tied to your talking points (on both sides) to understand what the vote tallies really mean. The majority of the Republicans are against extending the payroll tax reduction, because of the potential long-term negative effects to Social Security. It doesn't matter which plan they wrap it up in, they are against stealing money from Social Security to pay for everything else.
JC, seriously? Do you REALLY believe that?
Paul Ryan's plan is a short trip to ending SS and you want to whimper about the long term affects to a program they have no intention of seeing solvent beyond their own power trip?
It's all kinda' subjective when you realize your front runner is advocating to reinstate child labor.
Boy, you sure know how to carry the water. Does that pay extra?
(psst,...here's a secret, they are against ANYTHING the Dems are for - rotely and without thought. Dems are proposing FORMER Republican ideas and the Cons are falling all over themselves to reject them out of hand. If the country weren't in such dire need of maturity and intellect right now, it would almost be comical...almost).
It sure looks like the Radical Right folks are a little worried that the person they refer to as Barry, is going to win the arguments in the end, and be widely reelected as President of the United States.
Of course they, the Radical Right will continue their unjustified trash talk, in which we Progressives could care less and don’t give a darn about.
Clara,
You can laugh all you like, however your position that "they are against ANYTHING the Dems are for" doesn't fit the facts. Yes, the Republicans voted en masse against the Democrat proposal, but the bulk of Republicans also voted against the Republican proposal.
You can try to spin it any way that you like, but the fact is that there are those who are honestly concerned with the effect that this will have on Social Security. Bringing up Ryan's plan is pointless, since it has nothing to do with whether it makes sense to continue with this tax reduction.
The reason that Social Security is in jeopardy at all is because Congress decided to "borrow" funds to pay for other things. Further reducing the funding by lowering the tax will do nothing but make it even weaker.
ahh, but the House Repubs SCRAMBLED to vote FOR Ryan's proposal, no?
I agree with your remaining points; but since Repubs refuse to raise ANY revenues any where else,...This temporary buzz seemed to be a possible out.
Clara,
If and when the Democrats propose anything at all having to do with how to address Social Security and Medicare (other than to stick their heads in the sand and ignore it) then we can contrast the Ryan plan with theirs. Until that time, it is the only real attempt that has been made to address it at all. Is it a good plan, I don't really know - I haven't taken the time to look at it. Is it the best plan we've got - yes - but only because nobody on the Democrat side has had the guts to actually step up to the plate.
PS. speaking of the Ryan proposal,...what was it Newt said about it?
something about right wing social engineering?
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/05/newt-gingrich-blasts-gop-budget-as-right-wing-social-engineering.php
Man, the rightwingers are sure willing to forget such a slap in the face. I mean wasn't his campaign declared DOA based on this comment, months ago?
Seems that the FR libs think they know best. The democrats plans are always in the best interests of the populace. LMAO!
Clara, Liquidate all the assets of the wealthy and still there won't be enough cash to fix our burgeoning future debt due to entitlements. Just 2% more people looking for work.
Like retired sen simpson said earlier this year, you remember, Simpson-'Boles debt commision? If you don't address the spending issues of entitlements it will just suck away all government funding for other projects <paraphrased>
BTW clara what ever happenned to the senates alternative to the houses FY 2012 budget plan? America's fiscal year 2012 budget plan was to start oct 1, 2011.
Looks like the left heartily supports cheney's comment of "deficits don't matter".
The idea of cutting tens of thousand of jobs (Repub idea, fed jobs) in order to create jobs, is the circular kind of logic ("circle jerk") that describes GOP economics in a nutshell. All but 20 of the Republicans even saw that!
American - no, let's look closely at what Clara posted.
So tell me, American, if we see the GOPers are saying NO to FORMER REPUBLICAN IDEAS brought up by the Dems, how can you NOT come to the conclusion it is pure GOP intransigence?
Just some food for thought...
Chris Christie recently said in a speech to Obama, "Just what ARE we paying you for?"
Here’s a partial list:
To fundamentally transform the United States of America.
To put more Americans on food stamps than ever before.
To turn 16% of our economy over to the government (healthcare).
To plunder from the pockets of the producers and redistribute wealth.
To pay off political backers by “investing” in their non-sustainable solar companies.
To change union rules so as to make unionization easier.
To deny American energy efforts for the sake of “green” dreams.
To turn long-established bankruptcy law on its head by giving preferences to unsecured union creditors.
To apologize for America on the world stage.
To bow to the enemies of America.
To demonize millionaires and billionaires.
To implement rules and regulations costing businesses trillions each year.
To give the EPA power to destroy segments of our economy … coal, for instance.
To bailout certain industries and then stick the taxpayers with the tab.
To spend $800 billion on virtual dance projects and bridges for endangered squirrels.
To lose 2.5 million jobs in our economy.
To sue states when they try and do what the federal government fails to do – protect its borders.
The list can go on and on .. and it is way too easy to compile. The bottom line is that Obama is not the leader we want and certainly not the one we need.
Pietro,
There have been many Republicans in the past that have had a "big government" mentality. Today's Republicans are focused on reducing the size of government (especially after watching the Greece debacle unfold) and bringing expenditures in line with existing revenues. Ideas that are not consistent with the current focus, regardless of who proposed them in the past, do nothing to address the problems of today. Just because it was proposed by a Republican does not make it a good idea for the current economic reality.
Alan, that is a good list to show reality....Please add to the Obama accomplishments...To shut down production and real job producing progress wherever possible.....(in this country)
Again Roy,
This means that Bush should have created 15.3
million jobs instead of the couple million he created.
You also said the same thing about the drop off in Jan
this time last year … never happened.
OK, JC, answer this question then - if Government is so BAD, and Government needs to be shrunk, why is it that SO MANY Republicans are fighting SO HARD to BE a part of the 'dreaded' Government they so desperately want to 'shrink'?
We could shrink Government RIGHT NOW by almost 50% if all of the Republicans RESIGNED. You would have achieved your goal, wouldn't you?
Well, what say you, JC?
Dennis, Columbus, Ohio "Again Roy, This means that Bush should have created 15.3 million jobs instead of the couple million he created....You also said the same thing about the drop off in Jan this time last year … never happened."
Where are you getting your '15.3 million jobs' figure for Bush, certainly not from me. The actual average number of net new jobs created under Bush (not BY Bush, since Presidents don't create jobs) was 8,471,000 net new jobs. That compares with a net LOSS of 6,298,000 jobs under Obama in his first 2 years. For details, including links to official government sites, see my Post #1.91 above.
As for the difference between 'seasonally adjusted jobs' and those NOT seasonally adjusted, they can be quite significant, as illustrated by the official Bureau of Labor Statistics site; For example;
For December 2009, the actual jobs figure was 130,178,000 net jobs, but for January 2010, it was only 127,309,000 net jobs, for an actual LOSS after the holidays of 2,869,000 net jobs.
But when you look at the BLS' 'Seasonally Adjusted jobs' for those same months, it was 129,320,000 net jobs for December 2009, but 129,281,000 net jobs for January 2010, for a LOSS of only 39,000 jobs, which is what msnbc reported.
That's a 'seasonal adjustment' change of 2,830,000 net jobs, so if msnbc uses jobs figures that are not seasonably adjusted, it can be very misleading. It should be interesting to see what msnbc reports in January of 2012.
Your number 170,000 jobs per month times 12 months times 8 years
There you go bright eyes.
Hmmm, unemployment number is down? I'll bet BO takes credit for that. He hasn't taken credit for anything else in three years. How can we be sure that wasn't something Bush caused????
Pietro,
Government is not inherently bad. However, government over and above what the governed can afford is bad. We are currently running $1 trillion dollar plus deficits per year, which is utterly unsustainable. Continuing to act as if we can afford anything we feel like is a path to ruin.
The whole thing reminds me of the commercial with the lady trying to buy the Crown Jewels of England, because she's feeling rich.
Dennis, Columbus, Ohio "Your number 170,000 jobs per month times 12 months times 8 years"
I mentioned 160,000 new jobs per month to keep up with increases in the work force. I never claimed that it happened under Bush. That's why the unemployment rate increased under both Bush and Obama.
I suspect that job seekers would still prefer the 8.471,000 net new jobs created under Bush than the 6,298,000 net new jobs LOST under Obama.
Gotta take care of some errands - Bye.
JC - I cannot say that I totally disagree with you. However this caveman-style 'ME good, Government BAD' mantra is what I believe is getting you in trouble. I am for SMARTER and EFFICIENT government, and I believe that you are too (I think we actually agree here).
However, to road to attain that smarter, efficient Government seems to be where we are parting company.
While I thoroughly reject the manner the GOP wants to 'streamline' Government, I also have issues with some Liberal proposals as well. I also think that our lawmakers are NO SERIOUS about doing ANYTHING about Government because it is benefiting THEM; they are not representing US, like they should.
How do we get rid of the $1 TRILLION dollar deficit a year? We can start by getting rid of the Department of Homeland Security, as this is a boondoggle that is not making us any safer; We can get rid of the waste and graft in the Defense budget, and we could trim $200 BILLION RIGHT NOW and the Defense Dept would not even miss it (you can thank former Defense Secretary Gates for that tidbit of information).
We are not event going to talk about revenues. In the 2010 budget, the revenues from the populace was $1.2 Trillion; the revenue from Corporations was $800 BILLION.
If nothing else, we could have the revenues of Corporations to be at LEAST the same amount as the revenues people are putting in, for starters. Since Corporations are people now (according to Mitt Romney), shouldn't they be putting up their fair share like the rest of us?
You see, JC, there are a lot of things that we CAN do to get rid of that deficit, but there is no POLITICAL WILL to do ANYTHING. Change the political will and MAYBE we will start seeing some things getting done.
Pietro,
Getting rid of Homeland Security sounds good to me. Although we do need to keep some, if not all, of the entities that have been put under their umbrella, such as the Coast Guard, etc. As for the D.O.D., I don't believe in sacred cows - I'm all for reducing their budget. I think it is important to keep moving forward technologically when it comes to defense, but given what we spend I think we can reduce the spending and still be way ahead of any potential enemies.
Fraud, graft and corruption are inherent in any large bureaucracy and you are right, it should be the first thing that they tackle. But, even that will not be enough. Spending must be decreased, even if slowly, until it is equal or at least close to what the revenues are.
As for your individuals vs corporations take on revenues, I have to differ. It's funny that you should quip about the "corporations are people" concept, but don't seem to have a problem with corporations being taxed as if they are people. That aside though, the reason there is disparity is because of the tax breaks and incentives that are built into the tax code. Obviously, many of these should be reviewed and probably removed (though I agree with you that it would take political will to do so and it is doubtful that we can find politicians with enough backbone to actually do it), but many of them are there for good reason and should probably stay. Furthermore, as a small business owner, I can assure you that businesses don't really pay taxes anyhow - the consumer does - it is simply considered part of the cost and passed on. In fact, it is a great way for politicians to get people to go along with raising their taxes - all they have to do is convince people that they should "stick it to the fat cats" and people will gladly go along with it, even though it will just mean higher prices for themselves in the end. Honestly, do you think that the oil companies pay the State and Federal taxes on gasoline? Hardly. They are just added to the price we pay at the pump. The money is just collected and sent in - it has nothing to do with their profits.
New Poll: Republicans Suffering In Tea Party Districts
Pema Levy November 30, 2011, 5:59 AM
A new poll from the Pew Research Center shows that support for the Tea Party — and with it the Republican Party — has dropped precipitously in the last year. Now just 20% say they agree with the Tea Party, less than the 27% who disagree. But the news gets worse for Republicans: their favorability has dropped even further in Tea Party districts.
This is part of an ongoing trend, with polls this year consistently showing a narrowing of support for the Tea Party movement. In April, Pew found that as recognition of the Tea Party grew, their favorability declined. Specifically, disapproval rose 15 points between March 2010 and April 2011. And as TPM reported in September, according to a CBS/ORC Poll, fully 53% of the public had an unfavorable opinion of the Tea Party compared to a meager 28% with a favorable view. By October, the Occupy Wall Street movement had eked out a higher approval rating than the Tea Party.
Despite this trend, the new numbers represent a new low not only for the Tea Party but for the Republican Party. Whereas before, the growing disapproval of the Tea Party came from Democrats, moderates, and even moderate Republicans, these numbers show that Republican favorability has fallen steeply in Tea Party districts, 41% favorable to 48% unfavorable. Just a few months ago in March, GOP approval in these districts was a much higher 55%.
Last November, when Republicans swept up dozens of seats to take the House of Representatives in the midterm elections, the Tea Party’s favorability was way up, meaning today’s numbers do not bode well for Republicans trying to hold the House in 2012. Moreover, during the last election cycle, approval of the Tea Party in these 60 districts — including 17 freshmen elected in 2010 — had outstripped disapproval, now approval is about the same as disapproval, 25% to 23%. And while Tea Party disapproval has steadily increased across the board, the debt-ceiling debacle this summer seems to have been a turning point in public opinion both of the Tea Party and the Republican Party. This fall, Republican intransigence against Obama’s jobs plan didn’t help them either. As all eyes turn towards 2012, Republicans need to shake off what appears to be buyers’ remorse in these key districts.

Wonder how long it’s going to take before Geo. Bush syndrome is going to strike the Tea Party. You know the ones that say they are independent and never under any circumstances voted for a Tea Party candidate. Hell to hear most of you’ll Yahoo’s tell it Geo. Bush was elected to the first Immaculate Conception Presidency.
Then there’s the Question of just exactly when our current crop of Republican Presidential candidates are going to figure out the doing the full Monte and prostrating themselves at the T.P. alter ain’t the way to go if they want to get elected.
But the main reason that I brought this to you this morning is so the N.J. Poll Dancer would have a place to ply her wares. Just watch. Like Bees to Honey. Come on folks ante up a P-tip or two. Granny needs a new pair of shoes for Christmas.
Betty thanks for the chicken soup. Good for what ails me.
IR, well said. Joe Kline commented last night on MSNBC that the problem with the GOP is that they took a hard-right turn 10 years ago. I think middle of the road republicans and independents who voted for the TP are finally realizing what their ideology means; at least those polls you posted suggest it.
I may be wrong, but I believe the payroll tax cut based on SS taxes does NOT impact the SS "trust fund".
I believe that the "lost" revenues from the lower SS taxes is replaced with general fund revenues. In the end, the general fund loses the revenue and SS remains unchanged.
Reducing the SS payroll taxes is just a mechanism to provide a tax cut to the lower income levels, given the income limitations on its collection.
You can debate the efficacy of a payroll tax cut. I don't believe one of the consequences is to harm the SS trust fund.
Now add anti-women to the anti-science, anti-education, anti-history, anti-compromise tags already pinned to the GOP.
How does Knut Gingrich or the Knutbaggers thinks he's going to win with no women voting for him??? Are these people ignorant or what???
peteslat - just like so many others who have "borrowed" from SSI and never paid it back. I heard Mitch McConnell say that the loss of payroll tax would be made us with cuts "somewhere else." It'll never happen and the net result is if SSI survives, people like me will have a lower payout at retirement time because I donated less due to this little shell game.
I think Romney's run for the Presidency is his wife's fetish, and not his.
We have a one party system and it's time for people to realize it. The below link has good information. He talks about how politicians who run for office should have a contract which would obligate them legally to do what they campaigned to do once they are in office. All of them have broken their campaign promises and ultimately, it's the common American voter who has lost big time. Just look around - have the reasons you voted for Obama been fulfilled?
Immigration - it appears both parties are polar opposite of each other, yet NOTHING has been done to control illegal immigration so ALL people benefit. It has gone unchecked except for some token "changes" when the heat is turned up, only to go back to status quo when the heat dies down.
It's time to wake up from the sleep we have been in. Open your eyes and see the game that is being played.

Week in Review… Joe ‘Howling’ Scarred Borough yelled at Michael ‘Weak and Flimsy’ Steele… enough to fill a weekly review. Gotta luv a couple of cronies cronying it up.
Herman Cain will visit his wife to reassess his primary bid… I have a feeling he will be meeting to receive a black eye and divorce papers.
Newt Gingrich is officially on top… on top of a falling elephant with no parachute.
Mitt Romney is asking for excuses, ‘Excuse me… excuse me… EXCUSE ME!!!’ If that is presidential material, then I think I’ll pass, but he is catching on to the bully attitude it takes to succeed in the GOP.
As I posted last night, there is NO doubt in my mind Mrs. Hermie is going to open up a can of whoop ass on him!
Couldn't happen to a nice guy, if you ask me...
As my old football coach used to say, 'ya pays ya money, ya takes ya choice.'
And Herman Crab obviously paid some money. He would have been better off going the E. Spitzer Route. At least he could trade up when he wanted to. Besides, according to all things internet these days, Craigslist is the way to play.
The best part of all this is the Rebaggers blaming the women for saying anything. So much for those vaunted 10 commandments and the party of family values.
You are one of the idiots Davis Walker was talking about in his own party lol
independent, bite me.
"And that's the way it is".....this week and a bit from last week.
In additional to the $37 million Gingrich earned from health insurance companies to push for reforms, many of which are part of the Affordable Care Act--not to mention the millions paid by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for him to lobby on their behalf--Newt receives $120,000 per year from the US Chamber of Commerce. All he does for that $120,000 is attend dinner or lunch every month or so. Gingrich's real job is marketing his former Speaker-ship for profit--now there's a real patriot.
Paul Ryan presented a GOP plan to address income inequality; 17 pages of the same old tax cuts solve everything mentality. It returns to Reagan's first, high-end tax level which was 28%--you know, the one Reagan threw under the bus because the debt doubled. Are we there yet, Eddie Munster?
The Alaskan half-Governor Snowbird's take on the Occupy Movement is that it's "getting out of control yet President Obama hasn't taken the time to rein these folks in". Never mind how to rein them in, it makes one think she doesn't know the 1st Amendment applies to all, not just the Tea Party. No wonder Rahm Emanuel recently commented that he missed Sarah Palin's "wisdom".
The AZ Supreme Court ruled against Governor Jan Brewer and the GOP Congress for firing Colleen Mathis, Chair of the Independent Commission, without providing proof of egregious behavior. The Court said the firing was a blatant attempt to interfere with proper redistricting and that Mathis must be reinstated immediately. "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."
Chris Hayes uncovered the American Bankers Association's--staffed by many former Boehner aides--four-page memo describing how to undermine the Occupy movement. GOPer talking point guru, Frank Luntz, issued a new list for his minions which includes how to respond to Occupy and sound as if they care. Truth is Occupy has put fear in the hearts of those who have contributed so much to the pain and suffering of so many and the destruction of this country economically. Today's GOPTP is morally and mentally bankrupt but they've got their War on the 99% to keep them warm!
As Tennessee democratic representative Steve Cohen put it--Romney touts he's not a politician but that's because he has failed at trying to be one!
Ron Paul declared that President Obama "is provoking a war with China". Never mind that a couple weeks ago the GOPers were complaining that President Obama wasn't tough enough on China.
Best newspaper cartoon last weeK: a television screen with turkeys on stage; the husband says to his wife, "it's either a Thanksgiving special or the next republican debate." It was the latter!
30,000 attended the Madison WI Recall Scott Walker rally. After 13 days, they have 300,000 signatures. Meanwhile, before even being recalled, Walker spent $2 million on TV ads trying to convince voters, "I'm sorry....so sorry".
Gingrich said schools should get rid of all the union janitors except one and put the kids to work cleaning the buildings. In other words, fire the parents and hire cheap child labor. Just think, the Newster now leads the national GOP polls and touts himself as brilliant.
Dead-beat GOP dad Joe Walsh again yelled at constituents at a town hall referring to the 99% and to veterans as "spoiled, pampered, unfocused and clueless" people who "don't understand" and are "anti-American"--"I can't imagine anyone advocating socialist solutions." Hmmm, can't imagine Illinois citizens re-electing this dead-beat, angry, out of control whack-a-doodle.
Senators Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (McCain & Graham) are busy writing legislation to get around the trigger for defense cuts. Since 1999, the defense budget has tripled but nope, can't cut one dime from it and can't raise taxes to pay for it either.
The New Hampshire Union Leader endorsed Newt Gingrich although it sounded less like an endorsement and more like they were holding their nose while writing it.
AL law HB56 requires anyone stopped for any reason to provide proof of citizenship. A German Mercedes Benz executive, in town to visit the local Mercedes manufacturing plant, was arrested and thrown in jail because he left his passport in his hotel room. The Alabama governor and legislature now think their law went a bit too far. You think?
Democratic Representative Barney Frank announced he will retire at the end of his term. Love him or not, Barney Frank did not suffer fools gladly. Smart, blunt, with a razor-sharp and sarcastic sense of humor, he called stupid, stupid with no apology. Taking a swipe at Gingrich during his announcement, he said, "I will neither be a lobbiest nor a historian." We'll miss you Barney Frank!
Liz Cheney was back making a bunch of false statements about President Obama. Her most ridiculous claim was that Obama's re-election strategy is to have high unemployment and a bad economy. Poor Liz, she's confused because that's the GOPTP's strategy to win the White House but apparently in the Cheney Alternate Universe, everybody knows that high unemployment and a bad economy guarantees re-election!
Herman Cain is taking the weekend off to "reassess" his candidacy. More likely, the Mrs. will be doing some reassessing of Herman after the news broke about a 13-year casual affair.
The Family Leader said it can forgive Newt Gingrich's past adultery. Well, good for them to be forgiving. Too bad two adulterous affairs aren't the only baggage stuffed in Newt's closet.
Remember during the Clinton sex scandal, the GOP kept saying "character counts". Apparently the GOP thinks "character counts" is irrelevant for Cain and Gingrich, character only counts for democrats!
When explaining his TV ad with Nancy Pelosi, Gingrich said he "testified for global warming and then testified against it." OK, Gov. Perry, next debate--go for it!
Standard & Poors downgraded the credit ratings of 37 big banks this week. Why? Because some official finally read the Dodd/Frank financial regulation bill and noticed the US Government will no longer financially back "too big to fail"; financial institutions making risky deals and losing will be dismantled and sold to the highest bidder. Touche!
A NY Federal Judge struck down a $285 million settlement between Citigroup and the SEC citing a need for truth about financial markets. Cheers for the Judge who recognized that fines are not a deterrent to greed and bad behavior.
Gingrich declared that he helped Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp develop supply-side economics. So Newt was the "brain" behind trickle down which former Pres George H. W. Bush called "voo doo economics"--you never have to pay for tax cuts because they pay for themselves; tax cuts never increase the deficit and debt. Imagine, the arrogance of the Newtster accepting responsibility for the epic fail that is supply-side and doing so when the 99% are marching in the streets because of the chaos and harm "voo doo" has caused this country.
The Scottsdale AZ Gun Club offered childrens photos with Santa and their choice of machine guns. $5 for members; $10 for nonmembers--and we worry about grandma getting run over by a reindeer!
In SC, Gingrich told his audience that he wants to take Government back to pre-1941. Well, that's a relief, at least he's aiming for the last century because the rest of the GOP candidates are aiming for 1776.
After Iranians stormed the British Embassy, Michele Bachmann said if she was President, she would close the US Embassy in Iran (it's been closed for 30 years). So much for putting her on the House Intelligence Committee, "trickle down" hasn't worked there either.
Grover Norquist met with House republicans Thursday to rally them to his "Pledge" to never raise taxes on the rich but it's OK to raise them on the 98%. Not long ago, didn't Speaker Boehner say that Grover's "just some guy"?
Gingrich continued the GOP War on the Poor and Government by claiming millionaires get food stamps and the poor use them to buy lottery tickets and go to Hawaii. Reporters, anyone--please, next time ask Newt for the names of the millionaire food stamp recipients and the poor ones who went to Hawaii. What a pompous, lying, baffoon.
Speaker Boehner was asked if not extending the payroll tax holiday would harm the economy. He replied that he's "not an economist" and that he doesn't know. Odd, Boehner constantly claims that raising taxes on millionaires kills jobs and hurts the economy but never mind the 98%. Just another day in the life of a lying, clueless GOPer.
The feel good event happened in Atlanta, Georgia. After arriving at a home with a moving fan, two Fulton County deputies refused to evict a 103-year old woman and her 83-year old daughter from their home. They called Sheriff Jackson who agreed. As Lawrence O'Donnell said, they had a choice between following the law or following their conscience and conscience won. Chase Bank, on target for another $17 billion in profits this year, issued a one-line comment, "we will work out a resolution to keep them in their home." Bravo, Sheriff Jackson and your two compassionate deputies!
Jody, thanks for your weekly update. I especially enjoyed the part of the 103 year old woman. I have been having a bad morning, but that made me feel better.
I swear Jody - your weekly re-cap get better each week!
Just when I think you can't 'top' the last one - you do!
Thank you for all the work you put into them!
I will now spray your porch with the ****NJ NUT JOB REPELLANT***
Poor thing can't hold a candle to you! ;o)
Jody:
Excellent as always!!!
As always, thanks so much for a fabulous recap. I don't know how you do it. Don't you feel like you are doing a news report from Bizarro World?
If nothing else, you certainly highlight how incredibly stupid are the denizens of the Republican Party.
Cheers Jody, as always, a great recap. And the best laugh for me was grandma, guns, and reindeer. Still chuckling.
That's right David. All Republicans are incredibly stupid.
What a wonderfully Liberal comment from you this morning.
WCA, not only are Rebaggers lacking in intelligence. They are selfish and heartless and are the true cause of the class warfare we have today.
Thanks again for the Weekly Recap! As always ~ Excellent!
I love these recaps. I learn more in a few minutes here than I do in a week of MSM news. Thank you for doing these.
There's the 'argument' we were looking for today from the Liberals. David of course is known for his long pointless rants, and long well deserved suspensions, as well as his context free and logic free posts. And he's calling others 'stupid'. Too funny.
I wonder Phine, if you have any neighbors who might be Republicans. I certainly hope you don't need their help some day. Truth is, like most on this board, you would never say that to anyones face.
If we are all so stupid, why do you keep saying we have so much control? Should be easy to just tell us to look away, while you all get whatever it is you want to get done.
Smutty, every time you type a word you prove David's point.
Great post, Jody.
Just curious. How many more signatures do you need to take up the recall vote of Walker and what is the deadline? How many signatures do they feel they need to get beyond the minimum to withstand challenges? And lastly, do you think they'll make it?
Jody, as always top notch, thank you for all the time and effort to put this together.
I especially liked the segment on Liz Cheney, I have this visual that this was concocted over Thanksgiving dinner, wonder what she'd have to say hearing about today's great jobs report.
Also, did you know that Chris Hayes and his wife became parents for the first time as they welcomed a baby girl into the world this past Monday. Congratulations Chris and family. Love his new show.
Great job Jody. What a wonderful read.
Oh, Smiff, you wish--you so wish--your posts had as much logic and context and symmetry and thoughtfulness as David's. People are always accusing you of making things up (i.e., lying), and nowhere have I seen that to be as true as in this one sentence of yours. You have the intellectual curiosity of a gnat.
Yes, WCA, I have many GOP neighbors. They won't help anyone. I have seen them in action. When an elderly resident fell, not a one would go to his aid or call 911. It took me, the hubby and a 10 year old child to get help. So blow that out your rear.
And you don't know me very well - I told some of those same neighbors to their face what I thought of them!!!!!!
Thanks, everyone. I sometimes wonder if there will be much good stuff but the every week, the GOP out-does themselves; sometimes even democrats step into ding-bat territory.
Jack, I believe the number required is around 550,000 but the group wants to get at least 100,000 extras.
Sorry world. I am really, really grumpy today. A little tired of the bs some folks like to blow.
Jack, you think people that steal articles and copy and paste them here are "intelligent" and "thoughtful". You're hardly in any position to judge the quality of anyone's postings.
Excellent recap Jody. If I were MSNBC, I'd sign you up as a citizen journalist.
You better rest up GF - it's going to get much worse as we go into next year!
We'll take care of that over at the Dew Drop Inn later... ;o)
You mean like the idiot from Albany & yourself? lol
WOW!
GBM, yes I saw the photo of proud papa, Chris Hayes with the new baby last night. Thanks for adding it.
@ Feisty
Yeah, think I need a few "drinks" today. I will be the one at the juke box punching in all the Beatles tunes!
Thanks, Jody great read as always!
As to a prediction? Not sure I should make one, since I was pretty sure that even the fringe right wing could not take Gingrinch seriously as a candidate.
But, here 'tis: I agree with Pat that Romney will be the nominee, the GOP establishment is going to take this over soon. And I predict a major meltdown by Romney when Gingrinch starts poking at him and his positions. Or when he has to answer question by the press. My goodness, if he can't handle Fox "News", there is no hope for him.
"You mean like the idiot from Albany & yourself? lol"
"WOW!"
JoAnne, too funny!! They copy and paste it and call it their own and then they ahhh over it. The only post I saw that Albany posted that was copied and pasted was cited, I believe you posted the link.
Hey Red, any proof yet? But you know I was thinking about this whole thing and this could be the possibility of what happened:
Ginger wrote it and posted it on here and one of your Liberal friends copied and pasted it and sent it to all of their Liberal blogs that they know and called it their own----or
Ginger received it in an e-mail and copied and pasted it on FR-------Yes, Clara is correct about the date/time of these posts, but how did it end up on at three Liberal blog sites and not one of these people knows either other? Clara left a message on Freebird's blog and to this date, no reply.
Either way, I don't care and the only reason why I called her out is that your friends are confused on what plagiarism is. Did Ginger write it? I don't know and I really don't care.
Hi Jody,
GREAT Recap.
Thank You
"Did Ginger write it? I don't know and I really don't care."
Bit disingenuous, don't you think Paul? How long have you been carrying on about this? Seems like you are losing sleep over the idea that GBM writes well and with passion.
Is it because you can't?
Now, do relax about it, try not to fret any more. You do need your sleep after all.
And, I should think an apology to her would be in order.
Sure does NDD - Paulie reminds me of a junk yard dog who refuses to give up that last scrap of gristle!
Poor little guy continues to bark up the wrong tree!
First - anyone who reads First Read regularly knows that Gingerbread Mamma is a woman of honesty integrity and would NEVER plagiarize someone else's work...
Second - Paulie really, really, really, NEEDS TO GET A LIFE or sober up!
Sweet dreams dude!
Me too! I hope Newt picks her for VP!
Please Doctor don't concern yourself... Talk about BS a war with China? That would be the end of their Economy. China wants no part of open hostilities with the US. Period.
Great post, Jody.
oh lookie, the lying thief paulie the troll has appeared with his steaming bowl of bs.
You know, I read on this very vine just this week that Paul is a liar and a thief. Of course I WROTE that about him myself; and he has yet to disprove it, so it must be true.
By the very 'logic' that he displays,...I couldn't possibly be wrong...well you know...because I am RIGHT!
Come on Paul, give us all a twirl on your merry go round of lies. I could just point back to the thread; but you know your side is SO much better at retreads.
Newday,
Sleep? lol, ok and what you think doesn't matter to me. If I was wrong and now I see I wasn't, I would apology and I have on here when I was wrong. Hey, Red asked and I was gone on business for a few weeks, I got back with Red and now you want to chime in on what's going on? It's good, I said what I had to say and I'll enjoy your friends "copy and paste" from now on.
Hey Red, you need your friends to speak for you? Now that's funny!!! Junkyard dog? Would that be like digging into Jolly's background and call him out on something you don't know about? Kind of like that Red? I need to get a life? You are on here 16 hours a day/7 days a week, so if that's "the life", you live a sorry one, you really do.....hey have a Great Weekend if you can break away from FR, I'll have a beer for you-lol
Clare,
You did? Post it again Clare, because you know I stay on here all day. So being one of many attack dogs because that's what you do, where am I a lair? Let's do this soon ok, because you know you need the drama. It's a firestorm Clare, hurry!!!!!!! LOL
"You know, I read on this very vine just this week that Paul is a liar and a thief. Of course I WROTE that about him myself; and he has yet to disprove it, so it must be true."
sorry, paulie, according to your VERY OWN rules of engagement, it doesn't have to be factual OR make sense,...
so you'll just have to do your own heavy lifting,...
That's what I thought Clara, when in doubt, call people names because we all know by calling people names you will always be right!! I never understood that reasoning, but hey, if it makes you or your buddies feel better, slam away with the insults because that does make you look smarter than the average person-right?
Is the drama over Clara? Did the Firestorm burned itself out?
Smiff,
Just back from a closing, or I would have written sooner.
So, are you accusing David Walker of stealing articles and copying and pasting them here? I'm asking because it's obvious in my #5.16 post that I was referring to David, and that post was referring directly back to your #5.10 post in which you were criticizing him.
If it's true that you are accusing him of this activity, then show us your Source where you can prove that he copied and pasted the article. Otherwise, you owe him an apology.
JoASS1,
Please tell me why you vote GOP. It has to be 1 of 2 reasons or both.
1 you are in the top 1% or, 2 you are stupid.
Please tell me.
Jack,
I think she meant your #5.13 post. I think you took "logic free" and "context free" as something different, but as you can see, I'm labeled a lair and a thief, so hopefully she will clear it up for you.........
Have a Great Weekend
Priceless, Paul,
You have called an honorable person a PLAGIARIST and you want to school me on honor and ethics?
PRICELESS! Keep 'em coming, tiger! PS. You're still a liar and you've done nothing to disprove THAT.
There you go Rod, you tell Joanne why she's stupid because she doesn't agree with your views. Hey Rod, if someone doesn't vote Democrat, are they stupid?
What are Independents called?
Paul, Florida, you may not like what someone posts here but that does not give you the right to accuse anyone of plagiarism. Apparently, in your teeny little world, it could not possibly be that others saw Gingerbread's post and reposted it elsewhere. Oh, no, that couldn't be since the right-wing narrative is simply that liberals "cut and paste". Your problem is, that like Jersey Shores No Joe, Smiffy JS1 and a few others, you are jealous.
No. "Not as stupid as you think" published an article from MoveOn that was a cut paste from their web site without attributing the actual authors. You complimented Stupid on his great writing and insight while at the same not picking up on the obvious plagiarism.
You talk about "logic" and "intellectual curiosity" like you know anything about them, you can't even figure out a obviously plagiarized article. Now you judge others posts, posts you don't agree with, as stupid. You're the stupid one Jack. You judging others posts is like Billy Clinton lecturing someone about good ethics.
Clara,
Don't forget Thief too.............I don't know her, I never met her, still strive for the drama Clara? So I'm a lair in your eyes Clara, that's fine, but based on your rants and calling people names, you really don't have much honor to speak of. Let the drama go Clara. You are getting better with the name calling thou, good job!
I have to ask you, have you ever met her in person?
I have!
You will not meet a warmer, lovelier, honest woman in your life time!
PS: You continue to rant & rave about the drama Paulie, appears you're the DRAMA KING who is thriving on it!
You might want to step away from the computer and go play attention whore someplace else...
You're shtick is quickly becoming BORING!
You're dismissed!
My goodness Paul, you are becoming increasingly frantic. I can see that you are beginning to worry about making accusations against people that you don't know, as you should be.
But, GBM is as kind a woman as ever there was, when you make the apology you owe her, I'm quite certain that she will accept it with the graciousness that is the hallmark of her character.
Smiff,
I hate to be so blunt, but here is the absolute, unvarnished truth: You have no dignity. None. There are others with whom I disagree on this site, and I can agree to disagree with them. But as for you. . . I have no respect for you.
Jack, I really don't much care. You seem to have aligned yourself with dregs of the Left here, and you fit in with them so very well. I'd ask you to post something intelligent, but you seem incapable of doing so. You're just another Cheerleader for the Leftwing morons that post here. Enjoy yourself.
Notice I can spell you name correctly too Jack. You though seem to have to belittle people, drive them down with stupid name calling. You have the intellect of a gnat Jack - live with it.
She really is a very unhappy person Jack, one must feel sorry for her.
Jody,
Um, did you not see that I posted that senerio about 2 hours ago? I think you miss that didn't you Jody?
"Apparently, in your teeny little world, it could not possibly be that others saw Gingerbread's post and reposted it elsewhere"
Well, I'm not a right-winger, but you do cut and paste your weekly rants Jody. See, there's nothing wrong with cut and paste, but you understand the cite part right?
"Oh, no, that couldn't be since the right-wing narrative is simply that liberals "cut and paste"."
Red,
I don't see the rant and rave in my posts? Anyways, thanks for worrying about me. I will step away from the computer, my son has student lead conference this afternoon. You keep hating Red only if that brings you joy.
To the others, it was fun and I see you can keep the name calling down-good job-lol
Have a Great Weekend everyone!!!!
JAS1,
I'll give you that much. But no more.
The point is, you owe David an apology, but you lack the courage to give it to him. I'm outta here. More important things to do than argue with you.
Whats a morns?
JAS1,
I'll give you that much. But no more.
The point is, you owe David an apology, but you lack the courage to give it to him. End of argument. I'm gong surfing.
Hey, Jack,
We've been telling Paul in FL he owes Gingerbread Mama an apology for calling her a plagiarist this entire week. But don't hold your breath. They are entitled to call others names, impugn other people's honor and then they think they just get to skip away from it. Well, I am not letting Paul get away with it. And I think he resents being called on the carpet for lifting his little leg and then having his nose rubbed in it.
And yes, I have met Gingerbread Mama. And I assure you, she has never stolen anything in her life. Paul the projectionist thinks he can now call Jody a cut and paster, too? Wow,...seems he IS jealous. PS. I've met Jody, too, Paul and she is another BETTER human being than you can ever hope to be.
Oh, and Paul, you're still a liar and a thief of reputations,...Can't run and hide from that, now can you?
Look at you telling people what to do. You got a problem with women Jack? You like to try and intimidate them a little?
I never said Walker plagiarized anything, Walker writes his own crap. That idea just popped out of your mind somehow, and was clarified in #5.44. You'll have to explain why you still don't understand it.
At least you have a new friend with NDD...Returned. This is a typical type of post from her, you may want to examine it and see how similar it is to some of yours. She's in your class, or you're in hers. Ask her sometime about the "Returned" part of her name.
Rod_Father: You are right! The bumper sticker is sooooo true: There are two types of republicans: The wealthy and the suckers.
See what I mean, Jack? Poor JoAnna is guaranteed to lash out in HORROR at the very idea that people might make friends here. It must make her very unhappy!
In just another minute she will berate my poor mare. She is quite jealous of my hobbies.
joann i dont think people where complimenting him on his skills for writing it. they where more likely complimenting him on his knowledge of current activities pointing out the flaws in the gop members. i feel that is a shame the many supporters of the gop dont open their eyes to these flaws. point of fact though there are just as many flaws with the democratic party as well.
what we need in this country is a true third party one that is for the middle class person with candidates made up of middle class people ( you know the majority of us that have true common sense). then and only then will we see true change in this country. i know if we get middle class americans in office most of us would be smart enough to appoint true experts, to help solve many of the economic problems we are currently facing, instead of people who payed to get us into office. like maybe some independent proffesors of economics instead of members (ex ceo's ) of golds and sachs and other financial corporate entities.
Hey Paulie - where did you go little buddy?
You seem to have a nasty habit of talking out of your ASS & accusing others of plagiarism!
First, Gingerbread Mamma & then Jody...
Take you smear tactics somewhere where they will be appreciated will ya!
If you are going to slander someone douche bag - you better be prepared for the retaliation!
Envy is not a good 'color' for you pal!
Seek some professional help for your drinking problem!
LOL@Red.......where did I go? It's called work, it's something I need to do time to time to pay my taxes so people like you and other free loaders can enjoy my money. I see you can't understand what people write. Believe me, I'm not the only person that recognizing it. Sorry, Red that the only thing you can do is rant and rave. But I'll take a look on that link you posted and I remember writing that too.
Hey Clara, why are you trying to get Jack into your drama fest? Ah, nevermind, you need the drama.
It's cool Paulie - I totally understand YOU outing yourself as a pussy!
Here's a little hint buddy - instead of attemping to spar with me, why don't you back up your bull@!$%#?
You my friend have opened up a can & you, sweet-cheeks have NO idea of the outcome! ;o)
Please - by all means continue to distract & attempt to take someone's eye off of your shriveled balls...
Remember Paul, it was YOUR drama, your accusations and your lies, you reputation thief. Not mine. But lovely how you attempt to push this on me. Again, priceless.
We're still waiting for your apology,...
Hey, Feisty, at least the green envy color covers the pasty white stale and pale,...
Remember when someone is devoid of facts, they attempt to discredit the messenger,...Paul only wishes he could aspire to the writing talents of two of First Read's best and brightest, Jody and GBMama,...at least we can show him for what he is,...a lying POS and a thief.
MOTOR CITY MADNESS
Yesterday, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder gave the City of Detroit 30 days to get their act together or he is going to appoint an Emergency Financial Manager.
Right on cue, the Democrat City Council and Democrat City Unions lined up against this action claiming racism and over reach.
Detroit has been a drag on my state for decades but every person I know in this state wants it to succeed. We understand how important it is. The people who continue to fight for the same way of doing things are the same people responsible for the destruction of the city in the first place.
But this time we have a Governor who won’t bend. No more Democrat Governor Jen-Jen to keep feeding the corrupt government of Detroit.
Snyder will do whatever he has to do and if the City Managers don’t like it, too bad. They have had their chance and then some.
But hey, at least they keep coming up with out of the box ideas. Seems some State Representatives want to get back to running a “Numbers Game” :
DETROIT (WWJ) - Would a city-run lottery in Detroit solve the city’s financial problems? One state lawmaker thinks so.
WWJ’s Vickie Thomas reports that state Rep. Dr. Jimmy Womack, D-Detroit, is drafting legislation to start a “Detroit only” lottery. He plans to meet with the state lottery commission next week.
Detroit was just named one of the “Saddest” cities in America. Everyone here already knew that.
WCA, you seem to think that this "Emergency Manager" B.S. that Rick Snyder is pulling is okay, never mind that it clearly violates the rights of the local constituency that elected their city leaders.
See, this is another example of Republican hypocrisy at it's finest. Upholding the Constitution is only fine if it strengthens the Republican's viewpoint, otherwise it's an inconvenience to be side-stepped on the way to another Republican power grab.
By no means mistake my disapproval of the Rick Snyder's actions as support for the ineffectiveness that has been the hallmark of the political and financial leaders of the City of Detroit. Yes, there are serious problems in Detroit, Benton Harbor, Flint, Muskegon, Muskegon Hgt's, Battle Creek, Jackson and just about every other large city in Michigan. Let us not forget that the RECESSION began in Michigan a full 3-5 years before it hit the rest of the nation. It's not an excuse, nor is it meant to be. It is however a FACT.
But, despite the stated FACT, the government of Michigan does not have the right to walk into any city, town or municipality and take them over. What about the will of the citizen of those cities, towns and municipalities? Who represents their interests, ideas, and/or feelings?
This is why Rick Snyder and the Michigan Republican Party will find themselves on the OUTSIDE LOOKING IN come 2013. Americans have had just about enough of this CORPORATE CEO DOWNSIZING mentality that is prevalent among this new crop of GOP Governors.
So WCA according to your blog the people of Detroit, Benton Harbor, Flint or any other location don't matter when it comes to FISCAL POLICY? So that is the Republican stand on Representative Government?
Too bad Michigan doesn't have a RECALL system like Wisconsin. Unfortunately we Michiganders will have to wait another 2.5 years to rid ourselves of the self-proclaimed "NERD".
WCA you never supported the previous Democratic Governor in the first place. Gov. Granholm could have walked on water and you would have found fault saying she was unable to swim. Yet you praise the blatantly unconstitutional practice of having the state take over a city, clearly usurping the will of the local electorate in the process. Tell us how that lines up with the ideas of our nation and it's Constitution.
I watched the mayor/city councils teleconf last evening. It took a edict from the gov. to get the Mayor and the council to talk to each other, and this is the first time I have observed all 40 some unions actually talking about opening up contracts for renegotiations. Up until this point the unions took a hard "We are not giving back" stance. When faced with a financial manager (all my neighbors see as an outsider making decisions for them) everyone changed their minds and got very testy about the Gov. request. And Ive made up my mind and im headed to my Florida home for the month of December....... look forward to the banter in warmer weather. Feisty.......bet you cant figure out where I live in Florida.
It's been cold in Florida (at least for us Floridians). We also aren't real fond of snowbirds.
Im not in favor of the Financial Manager. I want Detroit to live or die on its own. I am at the point in my thinking that I want the liberal/Dems to do what it is they want to do. And just wait this out. My family and I will be fine and I will continue to give and do what I can, as our nation does what ever it will do with the Dems in control. But I do plan on upgrading by Weapons safe's for Christmas and asking Santa for a new Remington 12 gauge marine scatter gun.
Say, Granholm didn't need to walk on water, just balance a budget. She couldn't do either and if you think she did a good job that tells me all I need to know about you.
The usual Democrat response when they don't get their way is to whine and start yelling for re-calls.
Don't know if you have noticed, but even the most staunch liberals in the Media (Rochelle RIley, Stepehn Henderson, hell the Detroit Free Press Editiorial staff) is getting behind Rick Snyder.
So you can come along for the ride or go sit in a corner. Doesn't really matter.
Detroit's day of reckoning has come.
See, there is nothing in the Constitution about the rest of the State having to support the corrupt government of Detroit either.
Can't have it both ways, Say.
Unemployment down almost half a point in one month and this and splitting hairs on ad hominem bs is all you got?
So, it turns out conservatives here are much like the liberals in acknowledging good news...especially when it doesn't fit their narrative...lol
Dangerfield, I have no idea what you are talking about. Unemployment in Detroit hasn't gone down a bit.
The city is will be bankrupt by April at best, maybe this month.
No good news here in Detroit. A monument to the ideals of Democrats and Liberals.
Oh, sure, jollyoldsoul, those weapons upgrades are a sure way to solve problems. What I want for Christmas is for the republicans to work with the democrats to solve OUR problems instead of republicans working to defeat one man who currently lives in the White House; I want Santa to put some Christmas magic dust on the GOPTPers to force them to think FOR THE COUNTRY and FOR ALL THE PEOPLE and not the next election and not just for millionaires and billionaires. Seems to me that makes a whole lot more sense than buying guns to protect oneself from some imaginary boogieman.
You don't know what I'm talking about?
The national unemployment numbers drop significantly for the first time in over a year and you trumpet bad news? Look as a guy who can't even type "democratic" as opposed to "democrat", your bias is obvious with a capital O, but even red sox fans applaud a great play or a no-hitter by the other team. It's pathetic that the conservatives on this blog seem to be rooting against a recovery before the 2012 elections because it would hurt their party's electoral prospects...
Some democrats are conservatives, by the way...you're really no different from the liberals who say "typical conservative"....
phine,
But snow birds spend their money here in Florida and pay their property tax too if they own property. Now I'll agree with you if you're talking about their driving!
WCO,
To her credit, Granholm did do some good things like "No Worker Left Behind" program, but the people of Michigan didn't take advantage of it. But you're correct, Detroit is the problem for Michigan.
Actually White Collar Auto......
Much of Detroit's problems can be traced to bad decisions made by white collar employees in the auto industry.
Dangerfield, if every one at your office got a raise but you, would you be happy? All politics is local.
Who imagined we would be cheering 8.6% unemployment 3 years after the stimulus. 365,000 people just up and quit looking for a job. Tell me again how this is good news?
Detroit is in deep trouble.
Ian, Detroit is in trouble because of decades of corrupt democrats. Nothing more nothing less.
If anything, the auto Industry is the only reason it didn't fold over in Bankruptcy years ago.
Ian
as you can see,...the WCA's are STILL not ready to take the blame for hideous decisions in what to manufacture.
they probably never will. of course they weren't at fault with the union contracts, either. nope, never sat at a bargaining table and agreed to any of it,...
surely by now you realize that when republicans make BAD decisions,...it's a fluke; but when democrats do it,...it's something else altogether and EVIL, too!
I just love the union concept of "bargaining"...... Give us what we want or nobody will work and your business will go bankrupt.......
What do you mean you're having trouble now...... you agreed to it.......
White Collar Auto......
Apparently, you hope that those who did not live through the steady downward spiral of the American auto industry will buy your disinformation.
During the 1970's, when we experienced several oil shocks which resulted in dramatically higher gasoline prices, American (white collar) auto executives failed miserably to react rationally. While (particularly) Japanese and German auto executives clearly saw the future (and built their cars accordingly), American auto executives rested upon their laurels and stubbornly refused to adapt.
This pattern repeated several times between then and now. The inevitable result is that (particularly) Japan ascended and our auto industry descended. Predictably, those (such as yourself) who were responsible for that decline, assigned blame to everyone but themselves (i.e. government, labor, bad luck, etc.).
You and your fellow ("Big" 3) white collar auto executives were simply incompetent. We all know it and history records it.
It's little wonder you have huddled up in a defensive posture comforted by vivid illusions that your crowd were (despite being in charge) helpless victims.
Your constant anti-democratic rants here on Newsvine must provide some sort of pathetic reinforcement for your state of denial.
Still, there is at least one here that you have fooled: White Collar Auto. One indicator of how fully you have deceived yourself is that you do not appear to realize that by self identifying as part of the failed American auto management team, you lessen your credibility generally. Your chosen user name is nothing to be envied. Rather, it is a stamp of abject failure with truly national consequences.
We all owe President Obama yet one more debt of thanks for ejecting the remainder of your crowd.
BTW.....White Collar Auto........In April of 2011, you made the following (initial) comment:
What was your Newsvine username prior to that time? Were you banned?.....or, were your past comments too much of a liability?
Ian Both WCA live and work in Detroit and work for the Auto industry. And your going to tell us whats going on were we live. Im not going to say it, but you know where Im going with this.
Wow, Jolly,
and did you two stay at a Holiday Inn last night, too?
Ian: thanks for posting that. I had no idea. Let's see if you get response from WCA. One wonders if honesty is a part of his character.
you made a good point Ian about the auto industry not adapting to what the consumer wants. we want well built cars that dont cost almost as much as a house, that get great gas mileage. i know that is what i look for when i go to buy a vehicle. the thing that gets to me is when they dont compete thru innovation our govt then bails them out. is that true capatilsm? no it is corporate sociolism. let em fail if they have no clue what the consumer wants is what i say. then they can be bought out by some enterprising person that does know and that will provide what the consumers want.
jollyoldsoul1.....
You and White Collar Auto also live in the United States. So what? Clearly, neither of you have a clue what's happening there either.
Apparently, you two can't see the forest for the trees. Step back and gain a little perspective.
It was American auto industry (white collar) management that brought ruin to that segment of our economy. Since Detroit was so dependent on that auto industry, it is quite natural that it would also suffer mightily.
It is easy to understand why you two would like to think otherwise. That does not change the truth. You will likely proceed to your graves in denial.
BTW----Thanks for clarifying that you, too, were and remain part of the problem (however inadvertently).
Ian, if you had read a few more posts down that day, you will see that I immediately apologized for what I said.
The first and only time I have ever sank to Feisty's level.
Wow, going back to the very first day I posted here. Months and months of posts. You dug through every single one of my comments to come up with that?
That is really, really, sad.
For all you people that think the CIty of Detroit IS the Auto industry. You need to catch a clue. The Auto Industry has nothing to do with the corrupt Democrats that have run the city for decades.
You don't live here so you don't know.
You all would be best to stick to whatever it is that you may know something about.
Whatever that may be.
eric1964.......
President Obama DID let them fail. At least, that part that HAD failed: management. He threw (most of) them OUT.
But, there was no reason to force auto industry workers to suffer for the incompetence of white collar management. Furthermore, our auto industry is strategic. We lose it at our peril.
President Obama did the right thing. Our auto industry is now on a path to long term profitability.
BTW----Did you know that White Collar Auto thinks:
You see, White Collar Auto STILL thinks he knows better than the executives at Toyota, Nissan, BMW, etc.. If he lives long enough, he'll be one of the last driving around in a dirty gas guzzler and shaking his fist at the multitudes in their clean and economical electric vehicles. No doubt, he'll think they are all a bunch of "morons".
How about you jollyoldsoul1.......do you also think that "electric cars suck" ?
As indicated earlier, that quote was YOUR INITIAL COMMENT (using your present username). It's usually the initial posts that are most revealing about a particular Newsvine user. And, so it was in your case. It did not take long......maybe 30 seconds.....Click here->http://whitecollarauto.newsvine.com/_more/users/comments?year=2011&month=4&filterBy=a
You, as part of (white collar auto) management really don't take responsibility for ANY of the ills of that industry (and less directly...Detroit)....do you ? It is incredible how some folks simply cannot see themselves as others do. But, that's your game, isn't it White Collar Auto....?..assign the blame...and assume the credit. How long has that been working for you?
Still....you have not answered....what was your previous Newsvine username ?
Imagine my surprise at not being able to find where you apologized for that comment WCA.
Care to share the link where you supposedly apologized or will you pull your usual cut & run when asked to provide proof?
Excellent question, inquiring minds would love to know...
[Still....you have not answered....what was your previous Newsvine username ?]
Uh oh...Father Auto is caught with his pants down again...
Appears he has run off to hand out roses to the choir boys!
Well losers, it's late but I figured I would check back. I really don't have all day to sit here with you folks and play your games. Sorry.
To ease your mind, I have only been WCA on here. Started posting in April.
Feisty it was either Clara or GM who called me out for that post, I don't remember who, but since it was the only time in 9 months that I made a comment like that I remember it. I also remeber that I apologized. Whether or not you can find it really isn't my problem. Check with Clara or GM. You are what you are whether I call you it or not.
I just can't believe you people have the time or concern to go through months of peoples comments.
I really do feel sorry for what pathetic lives you all must lead.
Generally, I don't bother with most of you any more. When presented with facts you call people liars.
People like you aren't worth the time.
Ian Emdee, you've my new hero!
My money is on; Pete-Roleum
Oh really?
Are you sure about that?
Your second contribution under your new & improved user-name, you call me a nasty bitch followed up with this little jewel;
Like Paul in Florida - the very least you can do is pull up your big boy panties and be a man for once, by accepting responsibility!
Continuing to sweat & twist is not helping your image!
[People like you aren't worth the time.]
Awwwww...don't go away mad...just GO AWAY...
Only a week as the new Republican frontrunner and already Newt Gingrich's head is exploding from his rampant egomania. The man truly has a severe complex of some sorts, because he just about says he is the man responsible for every great moment in world history in the last three decades. He killed communism. He balanced the budget (as if Bill Clinton never existed). He invented the internet... Seriously, the GOP must be quaking at the thought that their insane primary base could make Newt their nominee. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
The irony about Gingrich claiming he balanced the budget all by himself is that it was Newt who fought Clinton's tax hikes tooth and nail; and republicans whine about President Obama being arrogant, elitist and thinks he's too smart for everyone else. Shoot, Newt comes right out and says he's the smartest guy in the room, brags about it--trouble is that 95% of his ideas are dumb ones.
Anybody that votes for Gingrich is either shallow and/or ignorant. Newt didn't think his first wife was pretty or young enough to be the wife of a president! So he went to the hospital where she was being treated for cancer and served her with divorce papers while having an affair. Never mind the 2 daughters from that marriage, Newt. And all the while the many "oral" interviews with staff, the pandering, the getting rich while being a career politician. Oh yeah, he's the one to BEAT alright, literally with a stick, whip or anything handy...
Marlon,
even the Washington Post admitted the "served divorce papers in the hospital story" was an out and out lie.
As a liberal, you are free to disagree with Newt, but you should not out and out lie.
Bob 188:
You are absolutely correct, Bob. It would seem you fancy yourself a "conservative". You - and your fellow "conservatives" are also free to disagree with Newt. You should inasmuch as his candidacy is based on one lie after another.
Yes the details may vary but the crux is Newt's a selfish inconsiderate pig. If you think his actions are ok, maybe you are too or have rationalized similar actions.
www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/aspects-of-gingrich-divorce-story-distorted/2011/11/17/gIQA8iY4YN_story_1.html
"Gingrich’s first wife, Jackie Battley, has said previously that the couple discussed their divorce while she was in the hospital in 1980".
"primary sources agree on a central point: Gingrich wanted to talk divorce with his hospitalized wife."
"Osborne attributed this anecdote to Lee Howell, Gingrich’s former press secretary, whom he quoted as saying: “He wanted her to sign [the list]. She was still recovering from surgery, still sort of out of it, and he comes in with a yellow sheet of paper, handwritten, and wants her to sign it.”
In an interview this week, Osborne said Battley confirmed the story when he interviewed her for his article. He also said Gingrich never explicitly disputed Howell’s account.
In a follow-up story in The Post in early 1985, two months after the Mother Jones story was published, some elements of the story were different. Neither Battley nor Gingrich mentioned a yellow legal pad or a list to be signed in The Post article.
“The two girls came to see me, and said Daddy is downstairs and could he come up,” Battley told Post reporter Lois Romano at the time. “When he got there, he wanted to discuss the terms of the divorce while I was recovering from surgery.”

Here's some more: marriage.about.com/od/politics/a/gingrichn_2.htm
"The First Baptist Church in his hometown had to take up a collection to support the family Gingrich had deserted."
Newton will not be the republican nominee for President...
From what I have heard, Newt Gingrich left his second wife after she was diagnosed with M.S. No doubt they had troubles before but it sure says a lot about Gingrich taking only the "in health" part of his marriage vows seriously. Any conservative who thinks this guy represents their best interests, their best hope needs to seek help. Gingrich is a selfish, greedy, con man; a flip/flopper far exceeding Romney who simply says what he thinks people want to hear because Newt will say and do whatever it takes to earn a special interest million or two regardless of his conservative ideology--nothing more and nothing less.
Marlon, this is my response to Bob ######. Newts indiscretions are common knowledge but, many people don't know or remember that Newt was charged with 85 counts of ethics violations and in return for his resignation, 84 of those were dropped however, he was fined $300,000 for the one not dropped. He left in disgrace. As for Calista, just how many women voters do you really think would want to see her as First Lady? If Newt gets the nomination, Calista will be raked over the coals and deservedly so.
I suppose there are worse things in life than being a spouse cheater. Unfortunately, we take politicians cheating with a grain of salt these days.
When you're a father in a public arena, it just shows how selfish and self-centered they are. It's easy to make fun of these guys because of their women issues, but in reality it really isn't funny at all.
No one seems to care about what a toll this BS takes on their children. It doesn't seem to ever enter into the equation. It just goes to show you how these guys put their children's self-esteem and sense of self-respect on the line and replace it with humiliation, day in, day out. Very easily actually.
As Lawrence O'Donnell said the other night, the only worthwhile thing a father can leave his children is their reputation.
So I do think these private lives matter when you're running for the presidency. Mrs. Cain seems like a lovely lady from all I have read. Why would he put her through this? Why would he put his children through this? Didn't he know all this would come to light?
Gingrich the same thing. What happens to these men that they would put their wives and children and grandchildren through this?
What has happened to our society when we see night after night these women come out and talk about affairs for 13 years with no thought to the familes they are hurting and humiliating.
I never understood how JFK did it. Or Clinton.
I wish we would stop accepting this behavior. It's all we hear about. We have serious problems in this country and these politicians don't care. They prefer to humiliate their families. It's the one consistency in these jackasses.
I wonder how these children deal with the taunts they must get on a daily basis. Thanks to their fathers.
The fathers who are supposed to "take care of" their families. Well, it appears that they can't take care of anything, except their ego's. And we all just sit back and laugh.
These aren't "men". They're pathetic.
Its real simple, they cheat and the media covers it up, turns it, spins it, twist it to the point where we sit here on these message boards and argue whether or not someones lying or not, never mind the DNA stain, show me some proof! And as far as lawrence odonnell goes, GOD! I would be so totally embarrassed if that sychopathic idiot was in anyway related to me, much less my father. Not to mention that ed schultz, MY GOD! men in white have got to be looking for these dudes!
george, whenever I go into the kitchen @ work to grab a cup of tea, someone always pulls me aside to ask if I saw Lawrence last night. Especially one of the bosses. She said she is hooked on him. I told her he grew up in Dawchesta, MA, something she hadn't realized.
He's a smart likeable host who is not apt to put up with much BS from anybody.
Most of the others I have outgrown, especially Matthews. That's what an Obama Administration will do. He is the one I listen to now.
I still wish Keith was on MSNBC though. He is missed. I don't see eye to eye with him on some things, but that's okay. It's some of his friends I don't like on the left. They're cruel.
But Keith? The best. As is Lawrence. And I'm home today so I will finally be able to watch Martin Bashir, whose program I am dying to see.
Trust me Pat - you will NOT be disappointed! ;o)
Let me know what you think...
Feisty, I will do that. I see that he gets a lot of exposure across the internets. It's what we need. Hosts who don't fall into the latest GOP talking point and make an issue out of it for 10 freakin' days.
Martin Bashir is great. Would like to see him in primetime!!!
Pat....I second what Feisty says about Martin. He can cut through the BS of these blowhards. Enjoy, I try not to miss him.
Like Feisty, Lawrence O'Donnell is god. I like the other MSNBC hosts too, but, Larry seems to nail it and nail it with passion and truth all the time....
Pat - I don't have cable so I get my doses of Lawrence, Rachel, Chris and Martin off the MSNBC TV link on the website. Granted, it is usually on a one day lag, but it is nice to know I can watch the programs.
Watch PBS instead...no sponsors to suck up to, no commercials, actual old school "journalism"...or maybe even give the hyperventilating talking heads a rest and read...
Pat, Boston, nicely put.
I miss Keith O, too; as Pat said, didn't always agree with him, sometimes he went too far but I don't always agree with what anyone says because I think for myself. Keith had smart passion. I think for myself and appreciate MSNBC's evening lineup because it's honest reporting; when they make a mistake, they correct it. Lawrence O, Rachel, Chris Hayes are top notch shows which I enjoy; I like Rev Al's ordinary, folksy approach. MSNBC should air Lawrence on Friday nights, too, instead of the Lockdown stuff. Martin Bashir should have the 4:00 PM or 6 PM slot instead of two Hardball's--Bashir is terrific!
I've decided to switch off MSNBC primetime. All of the hosts never have any opposing views, they never try to treat with the other side. Most gloss over everything this administration does as brillant, the only one who questioned Obama's misteps that I liked was Cenk - Young Turks guy.
I still wait for an MSNBC host to criticize the President when he goes forward with his GOP centric tax cut policies or when he agrees to cut meaninful environmental regulations.
When I want to watch news I have begun to enjoy Current TV. No not Keith O. he rubs me the wrong way with his oft time condescending attitude. Other shows like their Vanguard series is really good. It doesn't talk about daily current events, but they usually tackle important issues, immigration, poverty, foreign affairs, drug trade. As they take an hour to discuss each topic they provide pros and cons arguments from both sides. In depth journalism and not sound bites or talking heads responding to sound bites.
At MSNBC most of the "news" quickly turns into partisan rants.
Jody, I agree about Rev Al. He's totally awesome. It is too bad Keith and MSNBC parted ways. They'll never know how much of an impact he made on us. No one will ever come close, although Lawrence and Rev. Al are a force to be reckoned with, no question about it.
I think once MSNBC got their viewers (which Keith brought btw) they just kicked him and us their viewers to the curb. There is a great deal of nonsense on a lot of these programs I have to say. For Chris Matthews to say that women liked the Iraq War? He should have been fired. Women sent their husbands and sons to fight this war. They didn't love it. Only men like Matthews and the media like war. Women don't. And yet Keith donates to a Democrat and he is gone. Just like that. The guy was honest. In an age where honesty means practically nothing any longer.
It's funny how the media talks about the dangers of Iran or the BS coming out of China. Why don't they look at what's been happening here for the past 30 years by our own government against us? By the politicians and corporate America. And yes, the media who refuse for the most part to hold them accountable.
And President Obama does connect to people. It's the media who doesn't. Our President gets huge crowds wherever he goes.
Sad that the media has become so corporate. Sad for all of us.
"one respondent referred to Rick Perry as a “piss-poor debater.”
Well said; unfortunately for Rick Perry.
Ronmey is just a really nice guy who wants to be something - anything - Governor, Senator, President...
Somebody help me out here.
While I'm happy to see that the unemployment rate dropped four tenths of a percent, if you do the math, how does 120,000 new jobs equal a drop of four tenths of a percent? Dividing 120K by 0.4% (.004) gives you a total national employment figure of approximately 30 million. That means that roughly 1 in 10 Americans are employed. Does anyone buy that? I'd appreciate it if someone more intelligent than I could explain it to me.
315,000 people stopped looking for work. The gave up because their job searches were futile. Because they are no longer looking, they are not counted against the unemployment number.
The other part is the adjustments upward to Sep & Oct by 72,000 jobs.
To get unemployment benefits you need to be actively seeking employment so if Congress does not extend the benefits the unemployment percentage will continue to decrease.
Funny to watch some desperately looking for the cloud in that silver lining huh?
Unemployment is down and that is good news for everyone, whichever team you root for. Stop nitpicking and be thankful. Don't you want the economy to get better?
It's not a cloud dangerfield. Just stating facts. 315,000 people quit looking for work, and because of that, they are no longer counted in the unemployment numbers. That's not nitpicking, it's a fact. Do you think that 315,000 number is significant in any way?
And great avatar df.
I say be positive about the unemployment going down, and stop wishing that umemployment keep rising cause you want Obama out, cause if any of the GOP jokers are elected things will only get worse.
The actual employment level increased by 278,000. The total amount of those without a job fell to 13.3 million.
The drop in participation rate is significant in that had the labor force remained steady, the jobless rate would have dropped to 8.8 percent, according to Citigroup calculations. If the labor force had followed trend growth, unemployment would be at 8.9 percent."

-------------------------------------------------------------
When EVERYTHING is taken into account, Unemployment is DOWN, and that is good news. Intelligent people can always "drill down" to find facts to support their core beliefs, as is seen on both sides here. You choose to focus on the negative because it fits your narrative, but that is your choice, but a choice borne of ideology. Not saying you aren't entitled to do that but as most of you here (Libs and Cons both) reduce the political and economic future of our entire Nation to a petty rooting interest, but ultimately both sides will rise or fall together.
Unemployment went down and that is encouraging news for those who are still looking, and I am rooting for all of us to get back to work, as all good citizens should.
Thanks for the compliment...:)
lu,
Is that the Wizard of Oz approach? Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain? I would prefer real progress rather than Smoke and Mirrors.......
JC, you mean the "Smoke & Mirrors" approach of conservatives who claim tax cuts do not add to the deficit and debt, therefore, no corresponding spending cuts are needed; we don't need to pay for the two wars or the Rx Medicare Plan or anything else because magically those tax cuts will create the money to pay for it all. Candidate George H. W. Bush called Reagan's approach "voo doo" for a reason.
I happened to watch CNN this morning before work. They broke into their normal telepromter reader abruptly, at first I was alarmed. Thankfully it was good news. They showed that the rate went down to 8.6%. The journalist showed a graph of how every month this year jobs have increased even the so called zero month of august. Additional revisions went up for sept. and october. Job growth for the year 11 straight months. As a comparison they showed how the last six months of Bush and first few of Obama's were red with hundreds of thousands of lossess, huge losses.
Yes people fell off the unemployment rolls but this news is still is a good sign. Continued job growth and not job loss is a good thing.
This was breaking news. By the way, I switched to Fox and noted that they were showing a contest were a grinch and santa were repelling down a building!
Who won?...My bookie had the Grinch a 5-1 favorite...
"A girl phoned me and said, 'Come on over. There's nobody home.' I went over. Nobody was home!" R.D.
I had no idea what it was about but Santa made it down first. Despite the Grinch having the reach Santa had the weight on him.
Sounds like I'm out 10 bucks...
So, How's about "Ol' Yeller" for your avatar, Mark?...:)
That would've been good but (spoiler alert) didn't like the end of the movie.
Besides I didn't want someone "taking me out" after one of my rants on here.
Like Phoebe Buffet, I was never allowed to see the ending...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osRX86BYsVg
Pat Boston MA,
You are so right. "These aren't "men". they're pathetic."
And to think two of them today are still in the race for nominee for President...
Buried deep in the text: "because roughly 315,000 people gave up looking for work".
No, harold, I saw it, but it is not as significant as the fact that we have seen 19 months of economic job creation and growth which means the economy is getting better. The numbers of people who stop looking are decreasing as well. Personally, harold, I prefer looking at the optimistic side instead of living in the negative world of pessimism.
Thank you President Obama for 19 months of job growth! I am Fire Up! We need more good Democrats in the Congress!! Let's take back the House!! Obama 2012
Romney?... lol. With him in the White House there would be even MORE competition with becoming a "God"... lol. I think One has worked just fine over the Eternities. I think He's going to continue to do great without being crowded by ol' Mitt... lol. NO SOUP FOR MITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Harold.......I saw that! Funny that no one else did!
Nobody wants to talk about it . . . but the economy is improving, the wars are ending, and President Obama had done a real good job under unprecedentedly bad circumstances and coordinated GOP obstructionism.
Let's re-elect him . . . he's earned it.
The GOP is just another "bridge to nowhere" if you are in the midle class.
Amazing ... the country is in just about it's worst shape ever and this administration has only made it worse. Do you actually believe that stuff that you are saying lololol. What are you on?
jasperark, returning to the same old policies the GOP had in place that got us into this mess is plain stupid. No tax cut to the wealthy ever produced jobs. Cutting regulations gave us the gambling casino of Wall Street. And the regulations on banking that ya'all want to get rid of just gave us too big to fail.
Why do I bother? This intelligence level of the RWNJ's can be compared to a gnat.
japerark:
I believe it and its true. You can't dig out of a 10 year ditch in 3 years with one branch of government being completely corrupt and disfunctional. Those of us seeking reality based solutions to problems can tell the difference between spin and reality.
President Obama has actual plans that he is attempting to enact through Congress. The GOP leaders in Congress have disinformation and corporate pork bills that lobbyists have paid them to pass.
This presidency has highlighted the fact that Congress does not do very much to earn their salaries. That is a problem. The infantile urge to blame everything on the President as if he is the Wizard of Oz is a big part of what is ailing this country.
Well said Nash, I believe it was a ravine the GOP drove us into and it will take a lot longer than four years to get us out. We are on the right track and President Obama has done an amazing job of keeping us from being washed away, as the GOP/TP keep trying to flood the ravine with their obstructionist stance.
He well deserves a second term and I am fully engage to help that happen. No one the right will present as their nominee will measure up to his character and ability to understand the needs of the middle class.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Bill Maher said it best a couple of weeks ago on his HBO show,...
With President Obama's successes in getting Osama bin Laden, the RIGHT approach with Khadafy (sic, sp) and the Arab Spring (not to mention numerous other foreign policy wins ) - it makes you wonder exactly WHAT he could of accomplished domestically without all the hoopla?
There is nothing worse than an 'employment' situation where people being paid to do a job plop themselves down in the middle of the road and then tell you to go around them. This is what the Republican Congress represents. I don't see them winning with it; but man, their hubris and "All In" chutzpah is nothing if not shockingly entertaining.
Oh boy, Take the wool off your eyes. One big question I have for OBAMA....WHERE DID ALL THE RELIEF MONEY GO? All the billions of tax dollars for the bail out? where is it now? Is it helping us?
Nash - You can't dig out of a 10 year ditch in 3 years with one branch of government being completely corrupt and disfunctional.
Hey Nashville - Hope you are right. Perhaps we are turning a corner.
Like the avatar Nashville Fan :} Trinity from Matrix kicks...
Been away from my computer most of the day . . . but I did want to thank everyone for sharing their thoughts!
P.S. I agree about Trinity Yellowdog . . . I wanna be her when I grow up! :o)
News flash ... they don't like Obama either.
No, jasperak #'s, YOU and PEOPLE LIKE YOU who don't like Obama either.
Like Nashville said "The infantile urge to blame everything on the President as if he is the Wizard of Oz is a big part of what is ailing this country." You and the rest of the Right Wing supporters have not one new coherent thought for getting this country's economy back on track except MORE TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH! And everything that the President has attempted to do the Right Wing has denounced, lied about, distorted and voted against. Republicans think that they'll be able to convince the American electorate that President Obama has been a failure, but if the current 9% disapproval rating for Congress is any indication of the Republican's measure of credibility me thinks that they are in for a rude awakening.
One ... I'm certainly not right-wing, and a lot of moderates and even some liberals don't like Obama. Two- the left treated Bush exactly as you are describing. So what's new Einstein?
@jasperark-1270934
That is not true. The left certainly did not like Bush, but the number of fillibusters enacted during his two terms is nowhere even CLOSE to the number that have been done in Obama's presidency. The republicans have gone out of their way to block almost every single thing the president has attempted. Go look it up... This president is facing an unprecedented lack of support from the GOP.
Republicans may not be too concerned about the 1.6 million Gingrich took from Freddie Mac, (for what, good advice?) but what will be more critical is how independents feel about it. Newt Gingrich is still disliked by most people, and this is his "bubble" time.
http://pollingreport.com/g.htm#Gingrich
If Romney wins this election we will be owned by the Mormon church. This was spoken in 1977-78 at a conference in Holbrook, Az. By Spencer W. Kimball. If you think that we might be controled by some Islamist extreme, being owned and control by the Mormon church will be way worse. Their secrets seem plain and vanilla on the outside, but the control and witchcraft on the inside will send us all to hell.
Why don't you find out about what the Mormon believe first before you go off making comments like this. This shows how limited your understanding of other faiths are.
You made a comment about their secrets....What secrets are you talking about?
JE775, you must be one of them, their faith is a fake, and a plight on this Earth. I lived in Prove for ten years, and the best thing I ever did was to get out from behind the Zion curtain. When you go to Utah you need to turn you watch back 50 years. The church has no clue and they follow a conman they think was a prophet.
Wow, it's nice to see ignorance on such open display. Thanks Kathi and clem for proving that siblings really DO marry and it isn't good for the gene pool.
I have neighbors that are mormons and I also have neighbors that are muslim (from Pakistan). Neither of them nor their families fit what some of you put here.
You two need to be very careful when you make generalizations. Make sure to do some research so you can find out what their religion believes. I consider my mormon neighbors as Christians, like myself.
In fact, by generalizing an entire population of people like that, you have actually put yourselves on the same level of extreme as terrorists, anti-americans, natzis, and racists to name a few. Good luck, hypocrites.
Kathi/Clem,
Would a Catholic meet your standards? How about a Buddhist? Methodist? Baptist? Lutheran? Hindu? Atheist? Agnostic? Exactly which religious doctrines do you think are acceptable? And, pray tell, how exactly will we test our leaders to ensure that they conform to your theological viewpoint? Perhaps we could use the "tie them up and throw them in the river to see if they float" method.......
Mormon, the answer is he is a Mormon, its silly to pretend its any other reason, we can talk about white racists being a challenge for Obama, but we can't admit that most people don't like Mormons?
I think it is less about his (admittedly whacky) religion than the fact that he is simply not trustworthy.
admittedly whacky? Who admitted this? or is this just your limited understanding of other religions in the world.
Your better off dealing with a Jew than a Mormon. You know that the Jew is going to take you for as much as you'll let him. The Mormons will call you brother be you friend and stab you in the back the second you turn around. They are self serving ego maniacs that believe they will be a God in the next life. Romney can't be trusted and everyone sees that, except other Mormons. He is the king of flip-flop!!! And that says it all!
clem
you probably ought to check your bigotry,...and say a prayer,...cuz' that's no way to go through life.
ps. no, pretty sure YOUR words 'say it all'.
Nice typo at the beginning of paragraph 5. Newt is "carless and combustible"
I have a great mental image of carless Newt walking along the roadside and bursting into flames. Then again, so is his campaign (budda boom)
Wiki:
"Can't Buy Me Love" was recorded on January 29, 1964 in Paris, France. This song gave the Beatles three consecutive #1 songs, along with She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand. The three songs gave the Beatles 14 consecutive weeks at #1.
I seem to recall Can't Buy Me Love was a big song in the movie A Hard Days Night.
In April 1964, the Beatles had the top 5 songs on the chart.
Their cutest song in my humble opinion was - Let's all get up and dance to a song that was a hit before you're mother was born, and though she was born a long long time ago, your mother should know (should know) - your mother should know.
Sing it again.
The video is adorable.
{smile}
I love the Beatles. Best band ever.
Did anyone actually come out and say, "It is because he is a wishy-washy, mealy mouth two faced lifetime politician"?
Newt right?
(starderup) Did anyone actually come out and say, "It is because he is a wishy-washy, mealy mouth two faced lifetime politician"?
* * *
Starderup,
In case no one has said this out loud, please allow me, "It is because he is a wishy-washy, mealy mouth two faced lifetime politician." That's why. Republicans want someone who is AUTHENTIC. If Romney would just come out and say "I am a flaming moderate, I love the middle ground, Compromise is my middle name, Gray is my favorite color, and all of this middle positions I took in MASS, yeah, I still believe in those." If he did this, maybe -- otherwise he is a lying moderate in conservative clothing.
Newt on the other hand is a genuine -- a genuine butthead from the Democratic view, but genuine -- he is REAL -- and we conservatives, love him -- bad marriages, professional lobbying, and $1,000,000 account at Tiffany's -- all of it. We want Newt ! ! !
starderup, are you referring to obama?
1 - gitmo still open for torture business.
2- obama killing americans whom have been labeled terrorist
3 - no trials for 9/11 terrorist
4- tax cuts for the rich
5 - no immigration reform
6 - failing healthcare bill....google class act fails
7 - has not reformed/changed washington but has rather devided it and the country... hope and change - FAILED
Do I need to continue....oh ...i forgot to mention unemployment and our tanking economy...and debt bubble....
MarkWS, you are a blind man. You seem to have a small brain, for you surely can't see the big picture.
Parker you must be Marks brother, you opinions do not say much for your parents!!
Gingrich is the only Speaker of the House to have been disciplined for ethics violations in the history of the USA. He cheated on his wife who had cancer and he was having an affair with a congressional intern while he was trying to impeach Bill Clinton for doing the same thing. He is also the author of the hyperpartisanship in Congress. What does that say about the GOP field when he is better than the rest? Less. And you want to be president. Shame on you!
Gingrich has been more thoroughly vetted than Obama! Gingrich has no secrets, his life has been an open book for 25 years.
He has been married to the same woman for years and years............
So what if the marriage to a much older woman he married when he was only 19 years old didn't work out? So what?
No, who cares if Newt Blingrich has no character, morals, and ethics. Those aren't important for someone who'll lead America and the free world... nah.....
The Kennedy's penchant for cheating on their wives is unmatched, they made it an art-form.
Dumocrats seem to love that about them.
oh but with Newt it's so much more than the wife cheating...
There may be a few bitter old women who take it personally, maybe because THEY were kicked to the curb by their much younger husbands, but so what?
No one should be required to stay in a bad marriage.
Yeah so what ... the more cutthroat the better, right .... lol
Cain holds a town hall in South Carolina before heading home to Georgia to talk face to face with his wife…
^ Cain reported "missing", wife swears he never made it home.
Hmm.
