Inside the Boiler Room NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro debate how serious the campaign of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is taking GOP hopeful and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's rise in the polls, and whether the Romney camp will now reconsider Iowa.
Thanks to phinephancy-4252115 for the question! Keep an eye out for the next editions of Inside the Boiler Room and don't forget to post your questions for Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro. You can also tweet us, @NBCFirstRead,@mmurraypolitics or @DomenicoNBC, or post on our Facebook page.

TRANSCRIPT:
MARK MURRAY: Welcome to the latest edition of inside the boiler room. I'm Mark Murray joined by my colleague Domenico Montanaro. Domenico, we have a question from phinephancy. This is phinephancy's first question, I think, inside the boiler room. How serious is the Romney campaign taking Newt Gingrich's rise in the polls? Will they now reconsider Iowa?
DOMENICO MONTANARO: Well, we know they're reconsidering Iowa a little bit. They went up with their first TV ad. So they're actually going to play there a little bit. I think they're taking New Gingrich's rise a little bit more seriously than they were a week ago. You know we've started to see a back and forth over about two or three days. Newt Gingrich called Mitt Romney the former front runner.
MARK MURRAY: Right.
DOMENICO MONTANARO: And Romney hit him back calling him a lifelong politician. Newt Gingrich hit him back. Romney hit him back. So, you know, I think it's going to be a really interesting next 30 days.
MARK MURRAY: Right, the only question is is this two man race going to stay? I mean remember it wasn't too long ago we thought we had a two man race between Rick Perry and Mitt Romney in August and September. Look how that ended up turning out. One other thing about Mitt Romney. He's actually going to have Chris Christie campaigning for him. I mean yes, there is a play going on for Iowa. They might not be all in, but this is now a significant contest and the stakes are very high.
DOMENICO MONTANARO: They're like two legs in.
MARK MURRAY: Right.
DOMENICO MONTANARO: One other small thing, The Hill newspaper today had a blind item from a member of congress Republican saying Newt Gingrich's finger is always six inches away from the self-destruct button.
MARK MURRAY: (laughs)
DOMENICO MONTANARO: So, you know, that's what a lot of people are talking about. If he's able to maintain the message discipline and he said himself he needs to be more disciplined. If he maintains that discipline, maybe he can be the guy over the next 30 days to compete with Romney head to head.
MARK MURRAY: We have about 30 days to go until Iowa.
DOMENICO MONTANARO: We'll see.
MARK MURRAY: We'll see. Thanks.

Congrats phinephancy for having your question selected!
This should help cheer you up today!
Drinks are on us at the Dew Drop Inn later! 'o)
Congratulations phinephancy
I think Newt like the Herminator's campaign is a "red herring". They both are scam artists and got into the race to sell their books. What is Newt gonna do know that FOX NOISE has made him the candidate de jour?
Oh, by the way, did you here Mrs. Cain just got an order of protection again the Hermaniator? So much for talking; huh.
No wonder she had that incredible look on her face when asked would he be a good president.
Seriously, Bev, she did??? Say good night to Hermie. And his sausages & mushrooms.
Based on FR lib comments on the lack of merits for any republican hopeful why should we or romney care?
Let the caucuses and primaries roll...
WRONG QUESTION
Does Romney take Gingrich's rise in the polls seriously?
* * *
Does presumptive nominee Gringrich take seriously the media fawning over milquetoast Romney? Should Newt select Romney as HIS VP? Will Romney work hard to help Newt win MASS? Will Mormons enthusiastically embrace a non-Mormon? How will Calista decorate the White House as First Lady?
These are much more REVELANT QUESTIONS.

A Commentary by Marc Pitzke of the German news source
A Club of Liars, Demagogues and Ignoramuses
~snips~
The US Republican race is dominated by ignorance, lies and scandals. The current crop of candidates have shown such a basic lack of knowledge that they make George W. Bush look like Einstein. The Grand Old Party is ruining the entire country's reputation.
Africa is a country. In Libya, the Taliban reigns. Muslims are terrorists; most immigrants are criminal; all Occupy protesters are dirty. And women who feel sexually harassed -- well, they shouldn't make such a big deal about it.
Welcome to the wonderful world of the US Republicans.
Worse: They're ruining the reputation of the United States.
'Freakshow'
They lie. They cheat. They exaggerate. They bluster. They say one idiotic, ignorant, outrageous thing after another. They've shown such stark lack of knowledge -- political, economic, geographic, historical -- that they make George W. Bush look like Einstein and even cause their fellow Republicans to cringe.
Factually Challenged
And so the farce continues. The more mind-boggling its incarnations, the happier the US media are to cheer first one clown and then the next, elevating and then eliminating "frontrunners" in reliable news cycles of about 45 days.
Good for Ratings
What a nice club that is. A club of liars, cheaters, adulterers, exaggerators, hypocrites and ignoramuses. "A starting point for a chronicle of American decline," was how David Remnick, the editor of the New Yorker, described the current Republican race.
The Tea Party would take issue with that assessment. They cheer the loudest for the worst, only to see them fail, as expected, one by one. Which goes to show that this "movement," sponsored by Fox News, has never been interested in the actual business of governing or in the intelligence and intellect that requires. They are only interested in marketing themselves, for ratings and dollars.

Congratulations, phinephancy; terrific question.
On the ground in Iowa, the Romney camp is suddenly concerned about Gingrich. I have received dozens and dozens of phone calls this summer and fall from various candidates and various candidates' supporters as well as many surveys as to who I will support in the GOP caucus (never mind I'm not registered as a republican). Until last week, none directly from the Romney camp. Last week, finally, a phone call from Romney. This week, the first Romney flyer. Yesterday, within an hour of each other two robo-calls supporting Romney. The first was a John Doe named "Jerry" telling me how wonderful Mitt is. The second was Gov Christie informing me what a great president Romney will be and to stay on the line to hear a speech. BTW, Christie is as bombastic in a robo-call as he is on TV--in my view.
Indeed, yes, phinephancy! Excellent question!
What I keep seeing, in Romney, is a wolf (liberal) dressed in lamb's (conservative) cloth.
All he talks about is money....NOT how to help America's poor, which is now the Middle class (that's exactly what I am no longer a member of, since Obama has taxed the Middle Class into poverty.)
So, until I see something, from the Republican Party that isn't always about MONEY (how much I can give them from what I don't have), they'll lose my vote.
The day after Obama's innauguration, I emailed Pallin, saying my vote, in 2012, was hers to lose. Well, she's lost it by stumping for Karen Handel, who ran campaigned in Georgia's gubernatorial election on a pro-MURDER (okay...the liberals call it birth control, abortion or choice...I am caling it what it really is!) platform. Because of Pallin's support for that, as well as her refusal to answer why she did, she lost my support. I will only vote for Pallini n the General Election, in the sense of voting for the lesser of two evils and she should win that, hands down, if she's opposed by the man, who demands to become King!
What I keep seeing, in Gary, is a member of the right wing lunatic fringe who is unable to spell Sarah Palin's last name. The remainder of his post is pointless and irrelevant, not to mention completely insane.
Well done, Gary.
american:
[...why should we or romney care?]
Since you brought up Romneycare...
Uhm...the end... 8-/
Gary, please explain how Obama has taxed you into poverty since he extended Bush's tax cuts???
Phinephancy....well done and a good question.
Mark and Domenico: Nice job. By the way...I'm still waiting on that award for most Boiler Room questions!!! ;-)
(Dangit Feisty...I almost beat you to it!! This is the Boiler Room!!! Supposed to be my domain!! LOL!!)
HaHa Grimey!
The Boiler Room may be your domain but, the top parking spot is mine! ;o)
Have a great weekend!
Love your avatar, Frank!
Congratulations phinephancy, on having your question answered. When I had my question answered, I posted the video on Facebook, so all my friends and relatives could see! Ha ha.
Way to go phinephancy! Time to bring back the "Boot Newt" campaign!
Ditto what Amy said. I am loving all the avatars.
Wow!!! Go sit in a nice bubble bath and looky at happened here!!!WOO HOO
Congratulations phinephancy, I've been wondering about that too. I am leaning towards the possibility that Newt may just be the nominee, if he manages to stay on message. I believe he is angry enough and will say outrageous things that will please the Teanuts and if he wins Iowa and SC, he will be the nominee, regardless of Christi and his big mouth.
Frank, there's always a chance they'll have a year-end award for most questions chosen for the BR.
Grimey, You are a funny guy. Congratulations to phinephancy Have a safe weekend everyone.
Congratulations, Phinephancy! This should improve you day a great deal.
Thanks for the answer, Mark and Domenico!
This really did! I can now face the world in a better frame of mind (of course the bubble bath helped, too)
phinephancy:
We'll get to the congrats later. No time for that right now. Just off the phone with one of Herman Cain's advance men. You shouldn't have mentioned the bubble bath. Herm is on the way.
That knocking sound you'll be hearing isn't the sound of JAS shaking her head. That's Herman at your door.
(Madly screaming - Hermie, don't touch my mushrooms!!!) I think I shall hide in the closet. LOL
Looks like Willard may have toyed with the self-destruct button this week with his interview on FOX News with Bret Baier.
That said, in these bad economic times was it really the wisest move for Newt to tell us he was getting paid $60K a pop to give a speech?
DaNoid -
Fox News and Bret Baier.....
Are you suggesting that Fox News did a fair and balanced interview with a republican candidate???
I thought they were a right wing propaganda machine???
Rob,
A GOP that has questioned Willard's "Conservative" bona fides and appears to be looking for "The Anti-Romney"? You tell me what was going on.
Da Noise you think Newt should pay back like 55,000.00 into the US progressive freeloader fund. Not going to happen and heck for comedy we have your BS for free lol "popcorn" :)
Party establishment is totally pro-Mitt, but the party itself is no longer being directed from the front. So the tail is still wagging the doggie and the "base" doing the wagging doesn't trust Mitt.
dangerfield, I am taking you off "ignore." For some reason, you are starting to make sense.
Actually it would be cooler if Newt sent me the money, but, no. If people are dumb enough to pay Newt that much to speak then kudos to him. I just don't think that you should run around bragging about how much you get paid for a speech.
On a side note, he probably has to charge that much to keep up with 2 alimony payments and Calista's taste in jewelry. That's gotta suck!
So Noid - how much you think Obama will pull down per speech in '13?
$100k a throw?
I bet he will rake it in, right Noid? He does hang with a lot of Wall Street Fat Cats after all.
Oh it's a vast far far right right wing conspiracy
Amy-
how can you tell what I'm writing if you are ignoring me?
I only make sense to you when my comments are directed at the right side of the aisle.
Rest assured, I will undoubtedly give you cause to keep me on ignore soon enough...:)
Aw Amy you are so very precious.
Let me get this straight - you have danger on 'ignore.' Now of course danger is completely non partisan, middle of the road - they all suck and especially their supports, or thereabouts.
Which means that unless someone is totally on your side, blue through and through you don't want to hear from them.
Got it. It must be so warm and cozy in that little bunker you have created. Insulated, isolated, and uninformed.
I wonder - is that the approach you took in you education and professional life? Is it how you handle your finances?
Spankster-
I am finding many a chuckle in your spirited defense(s) of Newton (and now ME? LMFAO!)...It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it. Kudos buddy, keep up the good work.
(You meant "supporters", right?)
well, dangerfield, I sometimes peek at your comments, holding my breath, and lately they have been surprisingly reasonable. You must have really, really ticked me off in the past to end up on my ignore list, because I have a pretty high tolerance for differing opinions.
I got you danger, and yes 'supporters.'
I have always found their use of the so called 'ignore' button odd. 1. why on earth would you willingly deprive yourself of so much entertainment, which almost always comes from the 'other' side?
2. Either the button does not work, or the word 'ignore' does not mean what they think it means, cause they almost always say "I have you one ignore, but..."
Hey - what did you do to Mixed? He always amused and entertained, but I have not seen him for a long time.
I am "the other side" to everyone...
I was going to ask someone about MB, I hope he is well and just nervous that his dream ticket (Romney/Rubio) is being derailed...
Amy-
I sort of agree with Spanky comments to you on this...so, as the old saying goes, feel free to ignore/unignore my ramblings, but "Don't hold your breath...:)"
Spanky
I too have been wondering where Mixed went. I always enjoyed the exchanges between Dangerfield and Mixed…..interesting, respectful and properly done.
Oh, Spankers...
You think the money's a problem?
No...my issue is with Newt's ego which made him boast about the money for speaking. Poor form on his part if you ask me.
Wow Amy a peeping tom and a freeloader I'm impressed multi-tasking and all, lmao "popcorn" :)
Ego is it, eh Noid?
You know who has a big ego?
But talking about speaking fees is more a marketing ploy.
But then again, I suspect you view many things done by the 'average' 1%-ers as poor form.
Right Noid.
But all is well as we know that Obama, after all is said and done is a 1%-er who will certainly get some of those fantastic speaking fees.
If only it were us, right Noid?
The FOX interviews with Romney and Gingrich were interesting because of the way each was conducted. Romney's was done by one of the few FOX guys who doesn't play softball as much with some guests; he challenged Romney as he should. Gingrich's was Hannity and his questions were all low and slow balls without any challenge. It was obvious to any casual observer that FOX was playing favorites with one of their fellow FOX folks and the one they prefer to see running. Gingrich was a FOX analyst and appeared regularly on air until he announced he was running for President.
Newt Gingrich as the Republican Presidential nomination must be what President Obama wished for when he sat on Santa's lap yesterday. Please donate to Newt's campaign conservatives across America. Please!
We don't have to contribute much to anyone, thanks to barry. It hasn't been since 1980 that we had such a rooky inexperienced liberal to kick around in election year. He was a Georgia craker peanut farmer but even he wasn't as inexperienced and dangerous to this country as the community organizer. Oh by the way he his approval rating is worse than jimmys was after three years, lol "popcorn" :)
Spanky,
Thanks for reminding me about Jimmy Carter. A poster suggested I look up the text of his "Malaise" speech, and I've been being to mention how prescient our so-called "failed" former President was. If only we had listened to Jimmy, we'd be energy-independent by now:
I am tonight setting a clear goal for the energy policy of the United States. Beginning this moment, this Nation will never use more foreign oil than we did in 1977—never. From now on, every new addition to our demand for energy will be met from our own production and our own conservation. The generation-long growth in our dependence on foreign oil will be stopped dead in its tracks right now and then reversed as we move through the 1980's, for I am tonight setting the further goal of cutting our dependence on foreign oil by one-half by the end of the next decade—a saving of over 4 1/2 million barrels of imported oil per day.
Must see TV...
"The Right Fights Back"...really terrific insight from savvy and cynical journalists...
http://www.charlierose.com/
So then Amy - I presume you are all for the Keystone pipeline, right? Get the Gulf back to full production, open the Outer banks and go get all that oil in ANWAR?
Oh and you have gone out and purchased 1. a hybrid car, 2. solar panels for you house, right.
Or did you install a windmill on your roof? Too bad them windmills freeze up and break in the cold. Probably a poor choice up therein Maine.
Easy to talk conservation, yet no one actually does anything but consume oil and oil rlated products.
Nice to see GM will be buying back from their customers that fire hazard of an electric car they have developed. Shouldn't be much of a problem as there are only 6,000 in circulation.
Did anyone notice Secretary of Transportation head Ray LaHood on tv warning everyone about the Volt? You know, like he did when Toyota had their supposed brake problem? You'd hope a public official like Mr. LaHood would be front in center waring the innocent public when there is such a dangerous threat to them on the road (or catching fire in their garages).
Amy, thanks for posting the so-called "malaise" speech which had nothing to do with Carter's words but rather his demeanor. Carter had solar panels installed in the White House and Reagan scoffed at the idea of clean, renewable energy and had the panels removed. Reagan behaved as if didn't believe in science or the future either. Liberals think about the future, think about ways to improve the air and water, reduce pollution, and how we can achieve clean, renewable energy for our children and grandchildren. Meanwhile, conservatives continue shilling for big oil and coal, scoff at science while claiming to be concerned about our children and grandchildren.
Vehicle recalls are commonplace and a part of the industry. GM is an AMERICAN company. American companies should be at the forefront of new technologies. Are you rooting against progress, American exceptionalism?
The President didn't design the Volt, AMERICAN engineers did. The President doesn't build the thing, AMERICAN workers do. The success of the auto industry including leading edge technology and the success of our economy are intertwined and rooting for or applauding failure benefits no one;

We should all be rooting for American manufacturers to succeed...
Obama 2012, the end of an error!
I saw this comment posted over @ HuffingtonPost the other night by Gary and thought he pretty much nailed what Romney is all about:
Under Mitt's fiscal plan the country would slide into a depression. He told the Koch brothers he would eliminate Amtrak, privatize medicare, raise the age of social security.
He would redo the Bush tax cuts and deregulate Wall Street.
He has the former Bush necon war mongers as advisors on foreign policy. So look for a war with Iran. He is recycling the Bush slogans- cut and run, soft on efense, american exceptionalism.
So if you liked Bush you will love Mitt because he would double down on Bush policies.
********************
Whether Romney or Gingrich wins Iowa makes no difference. They're both the same. It's no secret. They are part & parcel of the GOP. Whose goal it is to continue to dismantle unions, health care, public education and so on. To completely undo all the hard work of working American families over the decades.
And work hard they did.
They built the schools Romney's kids attended. They built the cars Romney and Gingrich drive. They built the roads Romney and Gingrich drive on. They built the airplanes Romney and Gingrich fly in. They built all our infrastructure that is old and crumbling.
It's just a matter of which of these two can dismantle the working American families quicker. Meanwhile,

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley today sued five major US banks for allegedly illegally seizing properties, filing fraudulent foreclosure documents and failing to help struggling borrowers who could have stayed in their homes if they had been allowed to make lower mortgage payments.
*********************
Mitt and Gringrich have zero integrity, zero anything when it comes to working families. It makes no difference to me which one gets the nomination. They're both cut from the same cloth.
They have nothing to offer struggling Americans. Nothing.
btw, Newt said something about poor kids not knowing the value of working, or something like that. Someone yesterday on DKos found an article which talked about Newt always asking money from his family because he didn't want to work when he was younger.
Like that's a surprise. Newt oughta pay attention to the damage he caused his own children and quit being a busybody with other American families, who quite frankly have suffered mightily under GOP policies.
Our leaders way back when talked tough when it came to blacks in America. They had to stay in their place. And so they gave us lynchings and Jim Crow laws. They had to stay on their side of the street. If they survived.
These blacks of course were as American as you and I. Didn't matter though, did it.
Our leaders way back when talked tough when it came to the Nazi's, who of course did the same thing with the Jews. So we bombed their cities to smithereens. They talked tough when it came to the Communists and so we had a war in Vietnam. We sent our brothers and schoolmates there. To die or be wounded. They even wounded and killed anti-war protestors who dared to speak up.
Then they talked tough when it came to the terrorists and Iraqi's. We bombed the Iraqi's for no reason. No reason at all.
And now our so-called leaders in the GOP are talking tough against their fellow Americans. Now it is us who are targeted. And it is working. Because people in this country are so GD gullible.
It was only a matter of time.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the US Republicans. Or rather, to the twisted world of what they call their presidential campaigns. For months now, they've been traipsing around the country with their traveling circus, from one debate to the next, one scandal to another, putting themselves forward for what's still the most powerful job in the world.
As it turns out, there are no limits to how far they will stoop.

Oh, and btw -
Dear Romney: We actually still have what is known as American exceptionalism. And his name is President Barack Hussein Obama.

CAMP VICTORY, Iraq — The U.S. military said it handed over Camp Victory to the Iraqi government early Friday, marking the end of an era at the sprawling base that included palaces built by Saddam Hussein.
U.S. military spokesman Col. Barry Johnson said Victory Base Complex — as it's formally called by the U.S. military — was transferred to the "full authority" of the Iraqi government.
"The base is no longer under U.S. control and is under the full authority of the government of Iraq," said U.S. military spokesman Col. Barry Johnson.
One particularly entertaining pastime was feeding the carp in the lake surrounding Al Faw palace, where the top generals and U.S. military officials were based. The aggressive fish would jump out of the water for cereal, Girl Scout cookies and Pop Tarts.

Someone had a comment over @ The Obama Diary that their hometown is getting quite a bit of press with their troops returning home. It's a big big story.
Mitt has been working on this for years, his 25% is his FLOOR, not his ceiling and will be the last man standing when the Republicans hold their convention. The Republican party is in a state of flux and the lack of love for the Mitt and his less than extreme views are reflected in that. Newton is the last of the anti-Romneys to emerge on the eve of the first caucus, and will deflate like those Macy's Thanksgiving balloons after the parade...
But there is now an excellent chance that the big winner in Iowa will be.....
Ron Paul!
Ron Paul has long been the Rodney Dangerfield of the Republican presidential field: He just can't seem to get any respect.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/12/02/in_iowa_the_ron_paul_factor_could_loom_large_112249.html
You know 'm rooting for him now!...
Iowa - Ron Paul wins?
New Hampshire - Romney wins
South Carolina - Gingrich wins
Nevada? Florida?
Hope it draaaags out. Romney will be like plastic man by the end as he will have to shift from the right to the far right and then inch towards the center as the nominee. As a perceived flip flopper he will only add to his credentials with his shifts.
Yellowdog, Florida will be an interesting state to watch. The teaparty governor here is not well liked - and the tea party as a whole is starting to wan here. You might even see Huntsman do well in this state.
KATE ZERNIKE: Well, I think, certainly, the Tea Party has remained active. But I think there's more of a split now between Tea Party activists at home and Tea Party lawmakers in Washington.
And I think their goals often don't -- don't merge. When you look at earlier polls, polls that we did at The Times in July during the debt ceiling debate, Tea Party supporters wanted Republicans and Democrats to find some compromise. And they thought that the debt ceiling agreement should include both tax increases and cuts in spending, whereas Tea Party lawmakers were saying, we're not going to compromise and we're not going to do anything like raise taxes.
We're not even going to close tax loopholes, because that might be seen as a tax increase. It's got to be done purely through cutting spending. So there was a divergence in what people voting for Tea Party lawmakers wanted and what Tea Party lawmakers were trying to do.
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/politics/july-dec11/teaparty_11-30.html
phinephancy - Hello and Congratulations on your question being chosen.
Yeah I wasn't sure if Florida was one of those early states, they kept talking about moving up.
He could do well in Florida, however I think Huntsman if he doesn't do a strong 2nd in New Hampshire will drop out. Although at least in rhetoric he says the right things - "We need to stop nation builidng abroad when our nation (US) needs nation building." I'm not sure if his policies aren't much different then some of the others.
I agree with many, he is probably the only candidate that most democrats could see as President.
I am glad to see that the Tea party is diminishing. If the job picture improves enough and the Tea Party types distrust Romney enough, Obama may have a chance to win.
dangerfield newts rise in the polls are pure science

I must confess this whole thing with Newt rising to the top is unsettling. If one takes the flip flopping of Romney and adds it to the idiocy of Cains seemingly adulterous life style then throws in a bit of Bachman's ignorance of the world for flavor you have the recipe for a Newt.
I recently heard that Newt says he was destined to be President of the US and that God told him so. Mr G God did not even inform the Virgin that she was to be with child. He sent an angel to do so according to legend. Yet you are saying you are more important as God himself came to you and told you that you will be President? Come on Newt you are no St Francis who lived a life of near debauchery until suddenly he got the word. You are still a lying sneaky conniving bastard with no sense of remorse for a damn thing you have done or still plan on doing. No good act of contrition will bail your backside out Newt. NONE
Ray,
You either need to take your meds because your delusional or put down the illicit drugs because , either way, it's destroying your brain.
ray newts rise in the polls are pure science

I've been thinking back to the Democratic primary of '08 and remembering how we said Hillary "tested" Obama, and toughened him up for the general. Obama got stronger through competing against Clinton.
Is anything similar happening to Mitt? I don't think so. I think his battles with the other primary candidates are weakening him with the Republican base. He's not winning over voters in his competition with other Republicans, they are just developing problems themselves and dropping out.
That's not a good place to be, for Romney, heading into the general, when you really need foot soldiers fired up and ready to go. Well, maybe Republicans have enough corporate support, they don't need Ma and Pa Kettle driving neighbors to the polls. They think they can buy this election, like George Bush bought his.
We'll see, but, in my experience, Independents, who are ambivalent about their choices, just tend to find themselves "too busy" on election day to vote.
Well then Amy - you are in for a big old 'unexpected' outcome.
But then again, I bet you thought Carter was a lock in 1980.
Why I bet you can remember the results of that last Gallup pole before teh 1980 election.
Classic head in the sand libbie thinking.
Hey, look Amy! Your stalker is back! He must really worry about what you write! Good on you, girl!
Hey, look Spanky! Your stalker is back! She must really worry about what you write! Good on you, man!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
Hey Spankster! So it was your Hero "Ronnie Rayguns" who ended the cold war right? Consider this: The F-117 Stealth fighter was developed in the mid 70's and known by the code name "Have Blue." a CIA program funded mostly under........Wait for the answer now.................. the Carter Administration.
Classic connie yellowstreak lying.
Never and I mean never ever confuse a conservative with the facts!
OH and SOB...Show me your yellowstreak!!!!!
Ah, Spanky, way to keep your chin up. The Repulican Party is headed en masse to the wilderness for at least four more years, and you're making jokes. I really admire your attitude :)
Ahhhhh, isn't that cute? Poor SOB has so little in his brain that he must needs play the "shadow game". I think my children quit doing that when they were four years old, but SOB is a "conservative after all.
Which means he is incapable of profound thought.
Poor little fellow.
Torpedo- you string my name to a bunch of your 'facts' and then talk about a 'conservative' and facts.'
Interesting technique. I'm guessing you were not captain of the debate team, and might be spending time with Bev.?
But I guess you points are 1. Carter ended the cold war, and Carter was a great president. Huh, that is a unique take.
Anyhow, I'm sure you made a fantastic point in your mind, so good job.
How is Ms. Torpedo? Still working for a big evil insurance company? It is so nice that you can put aside you political beliefs and allow her to assist an insurance company increase its profits.
Amy - just four years? That's progress, as just two years ago it was a "40 year" wilderness.
Exit question Amy - was the GOP in that same wilderness last year?
Spanky, let me gently lead you away from the flickering shadows against the back of the cave wall, to the entrance of the cave, where I will turn you around and show you reality:
The Republicans took the House majority in 2010, along with several governorships, and promptly shocked and horrified the populace with what they did with their mandate - attacking teachers, firefighters, returning veterans and the newly elected President, while fighting to protect the wealthiest of the wealthy, and the "rights" of corporations to pillage and plunder. The House approval rating is at an historic low, Republican governors are also at the bottom of the barrel.
Pack a tent, Spanky, you and your right wing kind are headed to the wilderness...could be 40 years before the voters trust you again.
Spank....And here I thought that imitation was the sincerest form of flattery. I Just wanted to deflect and re frame like you!
Like most connies, you don't understand nuance. So here is the point:
Raygunz is often credited with ending the cold war when in fact the outspending of the Soviet Union and their subsequent bankruptcy was the policy of many presidents and administrations before him. That is a fact!
Never said Carter was a great president..on reflection though he was right about America's defense and energy policy which was Amy's point.
Now as far as my wife is concerned (who you seem to have a fixation on), she represents her insureds. You know the people who pay the premiums and her salary..The company is not evil in and of itself...Just the sociopaths that who suck the employees dry to line their own pockets. You do understand the meaning of the word "sociopath" don't you Spank? Sure you do, you're a lawyer.
To answer your last question, Your party has been in the wilderness since Newt's Contract on America!

You got the letters in the wrong order Ames. That should read: "Shocked the horrified Liberals by actually balancing their budgets".
Could be, but probably not.
Media: Mr. President, what is your platform for the next four years?
Obama: It's Congresses fault!
Media: Uhh, that's not a platform.
Obama: Umm, Hope and Change!!
Media: That's been tried, it doesn't work anymore.
Obama: Ehh, look at my family. Isn't it a nice family?
Media: What about the record deficits you've run up?
Obama: That's Bush's fault!
Media: Thank you Mr. President.
Media: What about the record deficits you've run up?
Obama: That's Bush's fault!
It is Bush's fault. Who cuts taxes during war time?
Ehh, Obama.
Source: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/12/17/congress-passes-extend-tax-cuts-jobless-aid/
Notable quotes from the above source:
"[R]eal money that's going to make a real difference in people's lives." - President Obama
"There was a lot of heat generated around this, but I will point out that a majority of Democrats in the House supported," - White House chief spokesman Robert Gibbs
"Obama and lawmakers will face enormous election-year pressure in 2012 to extend the cuts again or make them permanent." - Rep Anthony Weiner D-NY
Weiner also said the Republicans turned out to be "better poker players" than Obama.
The GOP contest has become a shocking race to the right, a battle to see how many times Romney can flip and flop on important issues to please the Tea Party, and what sort of outrageous rhetoric and bizarro proposals are unleashed by Newt and his "presidential campaign" that appears to be based on how many books the man can sell. Newt Gingrich is a dedicated lobbyist and a political flip-flopper, a man very similar to Mitt Romney in that he has so little personal character that he is adept at slithering from one position to the next, all predicated on whatever is most political beneficial to him at the time. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
mattpfl": ...a battle to see how many times Romney can flip and flop on important issues to please the Tea Party..."
The Democrats do NOT want Romney to run because he'll beat Obama. So, they attack him and label him.
Should we list all Obama's flip flops?? The country is waiting for a real LEADER who can create a JOBS environment.
Romney/Rubio 2012.
Romeny won't win.
20% of the Republicans won't vote for him, come hell or high water. Those Tea Party guys, and the growing libertarian groups, will simply not vote (they won't vote Obama, but they won't vote Romney either).
Only people who can win are the ones who can get the liber/tea guys, since the average republican votes straight along party lines.
Thus, the only candidates who could actually win a general are the ones who can nab the entirety of the GOP, and a good swathe of independants.
Frankly, the only one running who can grab the tea party, libertarians, and chunks of indies and democrats is Ron Paul.
but he won't get the nomination.
And, thus, Obama will win.
Excellent points, Tek. For several years now, the GOP has assiduously cultivated the support of the christian right wing lunatic fringe. Now that their last and only hope to nominate even a remotely credible candidate has forced them to rally behind a Mormon, they have discovered to their horror the christian extremist groups they thought were solidly behind them are now deserting the Republican cause en masse. Extremist christian churches and organizations have been asserting publicly and privately to the RNC that, if faced between the prospect of voting for either Obama or a godless Mormon, they will support neither and they will simply sit the election out. This is a troubling prospect for the Republican Party considering no other wannabe candidate in their stable has the slightest hope of winning against a sitting president...not even Paul, who appeals to the moderate voters whom the GOP has completely abandoned lately. As a consequence, we are entering a primary season that will much more resemble a @!$%# fight at the monkey house among the Republicans' pretenders to the presidency who are better suited for a reality show than they are qualified to participate in a political race to win the highest office in the country.
And, thus, Obama will indeed win.
He will.
But I'd like to point out, it's not because of 'good' leadership and populist notions by either candidate.
This election is much less 'hope and change', and much more 'who sucks less'.
I like to think an electorate will always get the politician it deserves. Either Romney or Obama is a dramatic statement on the status of the US.
I know many Republicans. They will vote for the Republican candidate , regardless of who it it. That's probably true for Democrats too. The jury is out on the Jewish electorate because Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. Of course, Obama's trying to mince words now to make it up to them before the election.
The tiny sample of people in your trailer park whom you claim to know do not represent a true image of the GOP's voter base, Leona. The Republican Party's core group of voters, the moderates, have been ignored and abandoned by the GOP in their mad dash to appeal to far right wing extremist groups. These middle-ground voters are, according to the polls, growing increasingly restive and unhappy with the pathetic range of unqualified and under-equipped wannabes they are being offered and most of them are just as likely to vote for Obama as they are for Romney, never mind the rest of the feeble-minded pretenders the Republican Party is desperately propping up for the 2012 primary race.
The GOP is self destructing before our very eyes, Leona. Read 'em and weep.
SAILCAT,
LOL, You are assuming a lot.
I do not live in a trailer park. I live in a suburb of NYC where we pay some of the highest taxes in the country. What about you??
As far as the GOP self-destructing ? Well, that depends upon who they are running against. If it's Obama, he's at an all time low in the polls.
"Read em and weep."
I am retired in the Sierra Foothills, Leona after years of operating my own business, and I am doing very well, thank you. I also am able to read and, unlike you, I am able to use reason and critical thinking to view the world around me. Also, I am assuming nothing: Obama continues to lead Romney and he is miles ahead of the rest of the GOP's pack of losers. This trend will continue as the Republican Party's pretenders to the presidency drop out of the race: Bachmann, Cain, Paul, Perry, Huntsman, etc.
Ultimately, the showdown will be between Gingrich and Romney, a crook and a spineless political chameleon.

Fail, Leona.
Henny-Penny managed to escape the chicken coop and is hell bent on dropping her 'cackle-berries' everywhere...
If only someone could find Mr. GreenJeans to corral the old hen!
Well put, Feisty! Leona's cackle-berries are a poor substitute for a cogent argument, I fear.
Thanks for the kudos Sailcat! ;o)
Bottom line is Leona is a hate-or-aide swilling parrot from Fixed News...
She is excellent at repeating their squawking points & yet when challenged to back up her bull@!$%# runs like the rest of them! lol
If only she would crawl out from her card-board box from under the bridge and see the light! lol
Oh... it's a HAPPY day to be a progressive! lmao!
feisty,
If you have kids, I feel sorry for them.
You are some nasty role model ! LOL
Do you tell your family members that you name call and attempt to demean people online who disagree with your politics?
It must su@# to be you. LOL
Now, now, Leona. That's no way to speak to a lady.
sailcat,
You said a LADY? Oopppssss, I didn't know. lol
Weren't you ever taught by your elders that one has to act like a lady to be treated like one.
"Weren't you ever taught by your elders that one has to act like a lady to be treated like one."
And that is precisely why I treat you with contempt, Leona.
Feisty a lady? Now I read her comments and think of her as just a nasty old female who dislikes anything and anyone who opposes her views.
But then again, she must have too much time and hate on her hands.
Thanks so much to Mark and Domenico. I really appreciate the insight. This truly brightened my day!!!!!
and your flowers brighten the First Read website...congrats again, phinephancy
Thank Amy. Totally made my day.
The RNC is taking Newt's challenge seriously. That happened the moment his campaign announced the rise in polls was accompanied by increased campaign donations.
To some degree, whether right or wrong, these professional political managers only respect money. Cain wasn't a serious candidate with rising poll numbers. But he brags a little about fundraising, and suddenly he's a serious threat. It is no coincidence the sexual harrassment stuff started after that. I have little doubt he actually did some or all of that stuff, but those women and the restaurant association all knew he was a candidate for a long time before the media leaks and public accusations started.
Now we have a more challenging threat to the RNC. And seemingly he's got a coat of teflon, because everyone already knows the worst of Newt (unless we don't know, and that's about to come out). Still, having exhausted other possibilities, rank and file Republicans finally had to acknowledge that he at least sounds intelligent at those debates... so it's Newt's turn.
So how does the RNC go after a teflon coated known scoundrel? Can't fall back on the old stuff. Hmmm. Ah, play up the undisciplined angle. Make party members fear that a Gingrich nomination is likely to go down in flames. Get anonymous congressmen to say things like "the finger is six inches away..."
maybe Newt is the leak, he's awful happy with himself these days
The only difference between Romney and Newt is Newt is more of a psychopath..and a bigger scam artist !
Another salient difference is that Romney is, in the eyes of the right wing christian extremist groups who traditionally vote for GOP candidates, a godless Mormon while Gingrich is a catholic convert who made the religious switcheroo following his marriage to his third wife. Neither wannabe candidate represent a comfortable choice for the members of right wing christian organizations.
And also Newt was pro life until 3 weeks ago ..and also has many democratic beliefs..and the you have the family values and his total disrespect for the marriage vow !
And Romney was never kicked out of Washington DC by his own party for being a "BUM" !
I think it's hilarious to listen to Liberals berate the Repub candidates faith, Christianity, when their adored Obama calls himself a Christian .... that is if you believe Obama is one, having sat in Rev.Wright's "church" and listened to "God Da$% America" for 20 years.
Let's not forget that Obama's mother was an atheist and his father was a Muslim.
Congrats phinephancy! Have a great weekend!
The question should involve Gingrich and Romney, but it's phrased in such a way that the answer is obvious. Of course Romney takes Newt's rise seriously--that's why he's advertising again in Iowa and may try to scratch out a ground game there that can give him second or third place.
Mitt read this and you win. Democrats put the poor into housing and thus changed the entire loan market. They failed to stop Bin Laden when he declared war in 98, 99 and 2000. 225 died in Africa bombings but the draft dodger president could not pull the trigger. 99 a boarder crossing. Oct. 2000 the Cole! Opps an election 3 weeks away... can't piss off the mentally ill left. Nothing happends.....so 9/11 happends.
Clinton was the worst! He is non-human. He lives for himself. Lost the Peace Dividend!
Read this Mitt and you win: usa1998.com
With Newt picking up the Cain supporters Romney better be worried. At this point it even looks like Newt will win in NH. Which no one would have thought Romney could lose less than 30 days ago. And down South Newt is bound to play better than Romney. At this point it is Newt's race to lose. If he keeps on message he will lock up the nomination.
Romney realizes all he has to do is keep his mouth shut, and his primary opposition eventually sticks their foot in their mouth (or other body part in other orifice). He's like a smart poker player, he sits and lets the other players throw it all in and bust out. He wins by attrition
Obama is going to get his butt kicked in any debate with Newt or Mitt.
I can't wait.
Gee, when the general election gets underway, do you think the Msnbc reporters will ask Obama the "hard" questions?? LOL
"Mr.President, why did you usher the lobbyists through the back door of the White House when you said there would be no lobbyists?"
"Mr. President , why didn't you work to find solutions for the 11 million illegals since you promised that?"
"Mr.President, why didn't you ask Congress before you sent ( under the guise of the U.N. doing it) drones to Libya to oust the dictator?"
"Mr.President , why don't you better protect our borders since the Govenors of those border states are asking for help?"
"Mr.President, why sink billions into "green" companies after being told they are going to go bankrupt?"
You can't spell Gingrich without GRINCH
http://frontpagemag.com/2011/11/08/the-muslim-brotherhood-penetrates-the-republican-party/
Maybe you should read the above site before you punched the "HOLD" in your voter card.
Karl Rove and Grover Norquist are best friends, but the Koch's brothers are right there in the mix. Oh by the way Norquist's wife is a palestirian Muslim.
sgirl,
Where's George Soros? Is he also " in the mix" , as you say ?
OH WAIT....Soros is the billionaire who's funding Obama and the 99%ers (who are really socialists and communists).
BTW, what do you have against Palestinian Muslim's ? I thought Dems/Liberals love ALL people and we Repub/Conservatives are the "mean and hateful" ones. LOL
leona helmsley, is that you?
Of course W Mitt Romney takes Newt seriously. God didn't even talk to the Virgin Mary, He sent an angel to speak for Him, but He talks to Newt personally.
