DES MOINES, Iowa -- Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich did not back away from his recent comments suggesting young children should be allowed to work.
“Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits for working and have nobody around them who works. So they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday,” Gingrich told more than 500 employees inside the Nationwide Insurance lunchroom.
This response came after one audience member asked the former House speaker to clarify the remarks he made at Harvard University on Nov. 18 when he called child labor laws "truly stupid." He also suggested students take jobs at schools as janitors.
“I really appreciate you raising it,” Gingrich said. “It’s a good example of how hard it is to take the world that works and bring it over to the world that fails.”
Gingrich said he received letters after his comments in Massachusetts complaining that janitorial work was hard and dangerous.
“Fine,” he said in Iowa’s capital city during a two-day swing of the state, “So what if they became assistant janitors and their job was to mop the floor and clean the bathroom and you pay them?”
He also suggested a couple of other possibilities for putting young kids to work: “But what if you paid them part time in the afternoon to sit in the clerical office and greet people that came in. What if you paid them to work as the assistant librarian?” Gingrich said. Adding, “I’d pay them as early as was reasonable and practical.”
“They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash’... unless it's illegal,” he said Thursday in the Hawkeye State.
Hard work pays off and teaches kids important lessons even at an early age according to Gingrich -- pointing out his granddaughter’s recent accomplishment of buying an iPad with all the money she saved over the last eight months.
“I was pretty proud of her,” Gingrich said.
The Speaker finishes his day with two more events in the first-in-the-nation caucus state. He was in Des Moines to sign a pledge to build a border fence between U.S. and Mexico by the end of 2013 if he's elected.

I dare the Republicans to nominate Newt. The man is an explosion(accident) waiting to happen. The quickest way to re-elect Obama is to nominate Newt
NEWT THE BUIT
You dare? What chutpah! And impotence you display. The Republicans will nominate whomever they think is the best candidate to 1) lead the country out of the morass BO continues to exacerbate, 2) unite the country instead of dividing it along economic classes, 3) propose and implement solutions instead of blaming and castigating opponents, and 4) kick the non-performing, hapless CEO out of office.
Steve, that's the funniest thing I've read all week.
Thanks for the laughs!
"The Republicans will nominate whomever they think is the best candidate to 1) lead the country out of the morass BO continues to exacerbate, 2) unite the country instead of dividing it along economic classes, 3) propose and implement solutions instead of blaming and castigating opponents, and 4) kick the non-performing, hapless CEO out of office."
Because 1) the economy was in SUCH great shape in January 2009, 2) like those remarks about the poor kids needing to do janitorial work around the schools because they have no working role models, 3) like stating that the primary goal would be to make the current president a one-term president, and 4) what?
I owned a rental property at one point. It was in a very poor neighborhood. That was back before the Bush economic meltdown. Most of young people who lived in the neighborhood had jobs! Our tenants were a black woman and her four children. She worked but earned only minimum wage and had no health insurance. The oldest of her children was 17. He had a job at McDs after school and on weekends. The next was 15 and she babysat regularly for another single mom so she could go to her second shift jobs, which often was her 2nd job. She did yard work for me at my rental property where they all lived. She did a really good job of it too for a young girl. She was always smiling and happy to see me when I showed up to collect the rent and hand her that itty bitty sheet of currency she had earned.
The youngest was just 6 years old. I wonder if Newt would like to put him to work. Any way, my point is that my experience with these poor people was enlightening and erased a lot of my preconceived notions about them. At night they locked the doors and windows and hunkered down. The mom worried about her son walking home from work at night in such a bad neighborhood. During that time two young men were shot to death on the street my rental property was on, just a few houses from where my tenants were. They were from a different neighborhood and had gotten lost trying to find one of the kids' uncle's house. I could never have handled my son being out there at night! It must have taken a lot of strength for her to bear it. I doubt Newt could have handled it. But then he'd never have to.
But guess what Newt. Those kids didn't use their hard earned money to buy themselves fancy electronic gadgets like your precious little one did. ( And I mean that. She is precious. It's not her fault she has you for a father.)They helped their mom pay the rent and buy food. They bought themselves clothes with their money! NOT toys. These weren't my kids but I'd have been proud if they were. Newty has a lot of things wrong in his sick and twisted mind.
This jackass, excuse my language but he is one after all, has no idea what he's talking about. He is predjudiced, elitist and disgusting. He needs a little bit of humility and humanity. But I won't hold my breath. What an utterly horrible person he is. Horrid, cold blooded, and one great big phony!
What I wonder is, who does he think this country is made up of? I mean he is talking about a huge sector of Americans here. Voters! Does he really think the poor don't vote. Keep it up Newt. If you do become Obama's opponent you'll have them out in droves all over the country on election day just to see to it that you once again fade into the shadows. And they'll do it in spite of the organized and synchronized right wing attacks on voter's rights with their sneaky new "laws" for voting that are aimed at making it so hard for the poor to make it to the polls
I have seen that level of poverty, having lived in NJ, Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Kansas., I support programs that will help with education and jobs. No american should in fear of being shot, or be left out of the system when it comes to basic rights. Most of those issues are law enforcement prroblems. We live in a country where there has been a near total break down of law in the poorest ares of town. I worked with a former LA cop who left the job because the gang bangers he arrested were on the street before he finished the paperwork. ( The heros in the neighborhood were crooks driving big cars and shooting people.) In New Orleans, fourth generation wellfare families had lost hope, long before the hurricane. In DC, the poverty and crime are enough to make you sick. This is nothing new. We have had these problems for a hundred years.
The Riots in Newark, The Johnson War On Poverty, No Child Left Behind, nothing changes. We have tinkered with the progressive income tax to the point that it is a joke. We have regulated companies until they go broke. As if that wetre not enough, we even funded companies that were doomed to fail from the start. (Half a Billion for only one of them.) That cash would have made a big difference to the community you mention. To make the point stronger: Remember the Democratic controled banking rules that forced banks to make loans to people that had no income verification: THAT MIGHT HAVE HELPED THE MELTDOWN A LITTLE !
This situation is the result of, not the cause of, a failed government. It is the product of retaining the same old failed tax system and congressional power structure for the last 60 years. The IRS Code is now over 10,000 volumes. There is nothing about that that is progressive except complexity. If we are ever to escape the injustice of our own system, we need a consumption tax and an end to the progressive income tax. If people knew how much of the tax burden is already contained in the guts of the economy they would revolt. The entire system is slight of hand. 47% of the peoply pay no income tax. Guess who they are? The poor and lower middle class. But the burden arrives at their door step via pricing. Thus no corporation is actually being taxed. just the consumer. Why not cut out the government and let us all pay directly ? It would take away the tool congress uses to finance its reelection expense. It would apply to all consumers and all transactions. It would hurt banks and wall street the same. It might make the process of changing to plight of the poor the first issue in congress: not the last. It would provide the kind of clairity that employers need to hire people. It would certainly spur the economy and bring our system into the 21st century. Newt has indicated he might be iinterested in such a system. Ron Paul has also. Cain has a misguided plan that would fail, but gets points for effort.
This is the first time in history that we have a guy running for office that has been teaching, writing, and possibly lobbying, in and out of the system, for 40 years. Newt can explain his views and provide examples of why they are correct. It is also the first time all voters have seen the failures of the past and been effected by them.
In other words, This is not "Dancing With The Stars"
It is not a job for community organizers looking for a vacation with pay.
It is a job for a person who can listen to the voters and develope an informed policy based on reality and not political expedience. Newt has done this in the past and is the guy most likely to do it again.
Thank you....
Newt likes to think of himself as an intellectual, but in the end he is a lazy thinker that is extremely underexposed to on the ground realities. While he is right that it is good for teenagers to learn the value of work, he as usual misses the central point- the issue isn't that poor people don't understand the "habit" of work, there is no work to be had. I have lived in both South Chicago and in a Native American area of Alaska, and besides a few fast food restaurants and local government services, THERE ARE NO JOBS. Newt assumes that poor people are poor because of habits- while this isn't entirely false- the bigger factor in why they are poor is the lack of tangible opportunity. As another person mentioned in their post, rich kids sit around all day even though there are loads of people working around them and loads of jobs available. This is a case where personal habits are paramount. But to infer that all poor people need to do is change their attitude and the jobs will come flying in is a classic privileged white guy thing to say. Can we bring back the bumper sticker "Neuter Newt"?
Lastly, from a strategic perspective, we should all hope that Newt gets the nomination because his extreme views will ensure Obama's reelection. Slick Romney is a more dangerous candidate.
Yes indeedy, earls, hope to re-elect BO and there will be even less jobs and work for the poor. This recession has hammered the lower economic segments of society to which BO cannot man up enough to stop blaming others for his failed policies. The fool spends taxpayer's dollars to run around the country claiming his Jobs bill will "jump start" the economy; the fool bailed out banks, auto companies, lost taxpayer money on loan guarantees to solar companies, created a huge federal beaucracy to oversee ObamaCare, misleads everybody but NC DOT about the dismal, decrepit state of NC bridges and infrastructure. Yet his constituency stay the course into higher levels of economic decline and growing division amongst Americans.
Newt offers new ideas into the public square for discussion and possible implementation. Perhaps if he were POTUS, he would successfully coordinate relief for poor children of working age in some fashion through economic incentives. Remember, this is the man that reformed the welfare state the LeftyLibDems implemented with the dismal result of trapping millions into a perpetual cycle of dependency and poverty. Thankfully, most Americans remember Newt's accomplishments and successes while Speaker in a Democratic adminstration. Didn't hear to much blame back then. Ever wonder why?
Steve, that's the second funniest thing I've read all week.
Again, thanks for the laughs!
My wife and I make half what we did two years ago but we continue working. My son has a job that he works 2 hours a day until we can pick him up in the afternoons. A small twist, I secretly pay his wages. Not only does this help keep him out of trouble, but it also makes him appreciate what it takes to have money and be able to purchase things he wants. He loves his job and does not want to miss a day. Now, some of you dead beats might have a problem with this, but it works for me and my mother did the same thing for me when I was a teen. She secretly paid my wages at a local motorcycle shop where I CLEANED TOILETS, MOPPED FLOORS, AND SWEPT FLOORS! It didn,t hurt me. You bunch of pathetic liberals think someone owes you for nothing.
I'm a liberal and I'm not pathetic.
So go screw yourself.
Obama in 2012. The above poster will prove my point.
To Turbo, If you can afford to "secretly pay his wages" then you are NOT POOR. And you have no right to talk down to others who DO know what it's like to work hard for minimum wage and get nowhere! You are like Gingrich. A smug rich person looking down your nose at the REAL people of this country. The people out here on main street working two and sometimes tree jobs, doing the best they can just to exist. But then you smug righties feel that the poor really don't have a right to exist. After all, "it's their own fault" they are poor. You people just will never be able to see how pointless YOU are. The world needs more smug, self-righteous, holier than thou, self important idiots like we need another Sadam Hussein or Osama bin Laden. Go get your arm stretched a bit more so you can pat yourself on both shoulders.
By your logic Turbo, it okay for me to insist your son does lawn work at hours the state sets after school, and for your daughter to work for the state as well. What you expect your own children to do is one thing it becomes quite another when you are willing to make that decision for other people children.
Well, I have to go to work and provide electricity for all you free loaders. Enjoy sitting on your lazy butts all day blogging about how bad life is.
Typical, accuse those who disagree with you of being lazy and unamerican. That is a wonderful way to win an argument.
Schools in my area already do this.
Where has Newt been?
"But what if you paid them part time in the afternoon to sit in the clerical office and greet people that came in. What if you paid them to work as the assistant librarian?”
Where's Newt been? Good question. Maybe he's giving your school district a national voice. Good luck with that based on the vituperative blather coming out of the LeftyLibDem media and the NAALCP (National Association for the Advancement of Liberal Colored People).
Look at that, a shot at being witty.
Not as funny as your previous posts. Not by a long shot.
Steve, get back to your original material. You have a gift.
By this logic, Neuter's children have no conception of what marriage should be, of what honesty should be, of what commitment should be, of what loyalty should be. The Newt is a Nut.
hey Newt, Sell that crap to the spoiled rich kids if you can. Talk about feeling entitled, they were born with a silver spoon in their mouths and can't get thru their day without daddies credit card, their BMW, and their Iphone. Oh and then ask them to show up on Monday---good f--king luck with that! And these are the people you want to subsidize with more tax breaks??? Ugh, do you have any idea how sick hard working but unemployed Americans are of you and this nonsense.
Not as sick as most Americans of comments like yours. Take an anger pill already. And a thinking pill. And a humility pill.
Steve.
I do hope that Newt Gingrich becomes the next president of the US. I do hope so. Then you'll see... And I will bet my life savings that you'll have buyer's remorse. MY LIFE SAVINGS!!!!
Oh but the Rich Kids in the Rich neighborhoods do? BS...
When I was 8 years old, I had a number of tasks that my parents paid me to do: taking out the trash: Mowing the yard: Rakeing the leaves etc When I reached 14, I set up a lawn care business with a friend. (We only had four lawns in the sachool year and as many as 40 in the summer. I learned to repair the mowers, buy used ones and resell them, work on my friends car so we could reach the nearby developments, and get new customers. Many of my friends bagged groceries for 35 cents an hour plus tips. In my high school years, once I had obtained a drivers lisence, the lawn business consisted of 100 yards.
My friend Max and I would drive to the liquor store in NW Dade county, and hire guys from the parking lot to mow lawns for the price of a six pack of beer. We had a trailer with 6 mowers. we would drop them off, pick them up after they were done and earn $5.00 net on each yard. They got what they wanted and we had cash for drive in movies and a lot more time to chase girls. During this same period, we delivered newspapers, and took phpotos of any accidents we came on for cash.
I worked at camera stores, fabric stores, and Richards Warehouse in the DCE program of Miami Edison. By the time I was in my senior year, I had a part time job at The Miami Herald Engraving Department, that led to my joining the Air Force.
My daughter worked her way through high school and college. My son did the same as well as helping in various family businesses. No ! I would not suggest kids in dangerous jobs or being over worked or abused: But there is nothing at all wrong with people learning that what they want and can afford, are often different. That if they have a desire to work and are willing to accept less pay, they can provide for themselves what their family circumstances might not be able to provide otherwise.
My first car was not a present. It was a 49 caddy I paid $125.00 for, with money I earned. My next car, a 51 Jag, cost me $400.00 and no one ever bought or maintained it for me. Most of the good things I have had in life have been the result of what I learned as a child. The most important was there are no bad jobs, just lower paying jobs. The second most important was, the one I learned in the service: Anyone can be trained to do something. If we all work to offer training and opportunity, we all gain.
Our choice is between the OSW protest that yields nothing but headlines, and programs of hard work and education.. I prefere the later.
Leon Elledge-4176737
since the times like we had, mowing lawns and rake leaves for money, buying our own cars we have been through a generation of entitled kids. No more winning a trophy for winning, everyone gets a trophy just for showing up. Paying our own children to do their own chores and them being too good to go mow someones lawn or help clean a garage for a few bucks.
Where I live is across the street from SMU in Dallas and you talk about entitled kids. My parking garage is full of BMW's, Mercedes, driven by 18 year old kids. At the first of the month Mom's and Dad's pile into the office to pay their kids $2000.00 rent for a 700 sq/ft apartment. They leave trash in the halls, never clean up after themselves or dogs, beer cans and bottles at the pool like they own it. It is a sad testament to the last generation that America has created.
Leon
Times are a bit different today than they were when you (or I) grew up. Back then a guy could graduate from high-school and get a job that could provide an income that would buy a modest home, a car, and support a family.
The harsh reality that you may not be aware of is the fact that the increases in the cost of living since then has drastically out-stripped the increases in wages.
At this point, hard work alone doesn't get you ahead. Try starting a lawn business now. You'd have to undercut the Mexicans that fill that niche and the money you'd get for your efforts will have about 20% of the buying power (if that) it had when you were a kid.
Putting kids to work is a good way to teach them responsibility, and parents should work hard to instil a good work ethic in their children, but change the child labor laws and we'd likely see a return to the situation that gave rise to child labor laws in the first place.
Whole families working for minimum wage, kids too. No time for school, have to go to work. Have to pay the rent.
Is that your vision for the 21st century?
That's not what is being discussed here. It's not that there is no reason for hard work. I think what the issue is is Newt Gingrich being his regular arrogant self
Great we will enslave children when there are millions on unemployed adults needing jobs. Oh that's right, adults demand wages so they can support families.
Why not TAX THOSE EX-POLITICIANS ON LUCRATIVE "Public Speaking" tours and book tours, to PAY KIDS TO GO TO SCHOOL ???
So is it safe to assume Newt's granddaughter was hired as the in house janitor by her grandfather? Was she earning money mopping floors and cleaning toilets?
The bottom line is Newt Gingrich is a character out of a Dickens novel, the guy who owns the shoe polish factory and hires small children to labor to exhaustion.
He's a one man horror show.
As if!
What the hell does Newt Gingrich know about "really poor children in really poor neighborhoods"?
Everything Newt has ever done has been about getting rich so he could look down his nose at everyone else.
The guy has no morals, and even hard-core Republicans readily admit that fact.
Gingrich led the movement to shut down the government in the nineties - just because he was p!ssed off at Bill Clinton. How many people in this country suffered for his pique? All he cares about is Rich folks, and how he can become one of the richest.
Some Republicans, as was demonstrated by the focus group in Virginia, would actually vote for Barack Obama if Newt Gingrich was the Republican nominee.
As for me? Well, I can't think of anything better than an Obama vs Gingrich campaign. You think John McCain lost by a big margin???????
Newt's idea to help poor children are truly remarkable and innovative yet the majority of commenters spin and twist into an acceptable projection of their own internal dysfunction or selfish agendas. What the negative spinmeisters fail to realize is that an idea is not an implementation but a different perspective. Newt has shown extraordinary flexibility in the implementation of his ideas, such his Contract with America. That 10 point program is widely recognized by bipartisan experts to have initiated the wealth creation of the 90's where all segments of American society benefitted. He certainly can lead this country to prosperty again despite those minority who express the narrow viewpoints here. Both Newt and Mitt represent positive change for the entire country instead of the divisive and deceptive POTUS.
Hurrah, Steve!
You're now back to being hilarious!
Thanks again.
Newt's ideas do nothing to help poor children. He has demonstrated that he has no concern for the poor. His concern is the wealthy who shovel money into his political coffers. These words are simply red meat for the base.. and a give a way to the people who want to pay even lower wages. There is nothing stopping children over the age of 14 from getting a job now, except the lack of job openings. There simply are not enough jobs for kids or adults right now, so no need to change the child labor laws. So why on earth is Newt focusing on this instead of trying to find real solutions to the problems this country faces? The answer is that Newt does not understand the real world that real families actually live in. Newt is the man who cheated on and divorced his first wife when she had cancer and at times did not support his children. This is the woman who worked and put his worthless butt through college. He cheated on and divorced his second wife after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He has lived off of politics and political handouts his entire life and has never worked a real job for a living. No wonder he has no clue about how to help create jobs or help children or help working class people. He is a fraud and a phony, but some people can not see behind the facade.
Steve compared to George Walker Bush, Barack Hussien(SP?) Obama is as honest as Abraham Lincoln. You make as much sense as a kitchen strainer without any holes with all your posts. I have yet to see you post anything I cannot blow out of the water.
Let me clue you in on something. I want the GOP to survive, but not at any cost, not if it has to turn it's back on the principles so many northern troops black and white died for. If the GOP cannot or will not return to what it was under Lincoln, then it is better for the GOP to die in 2012. I, an independent Republican voter, will help drive in the coffin nails.
The GOP and the Democrats have reversed roles since it's founding in the 1860's. I'm glad Lincoln is not alive to see the damage the southern democrats did to the party when they became Republicans in the 1960's. As an 1860's Lincoln Republican, the Democrats of today have my support as they have fully embraced Lincoln's values. GOP party of Lincoln, please don't make me retch. GOP party of Jefferson Davis, is what the GOP in power is acting like now.
God?
Please make Newt Gingrich the Republican Nominee. He's really super.
Amen.
By all means, let the GOP nominate a candidate who has no chance of beating Obama. I will vote for Newt in the GOP Primary, and against Newt in the General election. I hope God does answer your prayer Genevehicle.
I'll support his idea of making 12 year olds clean the school bathroom floors as soon as he requires his precious granddaughter to clean her school's floors.
What a great presidential hopeful, child labor laws is what concerns him for the new America. Well first, we are not talking about 16 year olds, labor laws are in place that allow children under 18 to 16 to work part time. So is he stating children under 16 should be allowed to work. If so, then he is a lost person to be barking up that tree, Eductation Education Education, is the formost most important thing as Americans we should be thinking about for children. I do not want my Nations to be some work factory for big Corporation to take advantage of and push us back to the 1800's. As a republican and a moderate conservative, this man is gone in my book as for 2012, geeze what a choice. one guy who is a flip flopping yank, one guy who can't speak a full sentence in public, one guy who is sex nut having affairs and one guy who had two affairs but asked god to forgive him and all is good. Just shows me that the system is broken and its time for a new party.
Newt is nothing but a bad joke.
And the Republicans take him seriously LOL LMAO
The middle and lower class young adults are the ones who are defending this country, the rich kid bastards are the ones who clamor after deferments and want the cushy jobs so they don't have to get their soft skinned hands dirty and ruin their manicures. Newtie wants all but the rich to be slaves to the rich.
All the liberal dum-dums criticizing Speaker Gingrich are so blind they cannot even see what his point it - they merely call it a degrading suggestion.
The crux of the matter is this: a cultural shift needs to occur in poor neighborhoods of all colors. Young kids need to unlearn the victim tag too many place upon themselves - and which children learn from their elders.
Once they see that work brings reward, and that anything is possible if they try, they can leave their station in life and move up the ladder.
And before you know it we are back in the 19th century where kids work in factories for whatever the rich are willing to pay. Families will be living in company housing in company towns while forced to spend their meager wages on shoddy products at inflated prices stocked in company stores. Institutional slavery brought to you by GOP Inc and the Me Party.
Let's be very clear about something; Newt Gingrich is the epitome of elitism in some of the worst ways you can think of.
To start with, someone needs to ask Newt how his 12-yr old gr-child got the money to buy the iPad she has. He was so proud of her 2 days ago when he shared what she told him: "Grandpa, I saved for 8 months to buy this." How do normal kidsthat age save enough in 8 months to buy an iPad unless their allowance is in the top 1% of US kid's allowances??? She didn't get it sweeping or mopping the floors of Morris Brandon Elementary School; an IB certified, U.S. "Top 100 Schools of Excellence" elementary school in Atlanta, GA. FYI - Story is they pulled his gr-children out of this school before they finished in favor of private school; ask Newt - he'll tell you assuming he doesn't dance around the question or lie.
So now we find out his gr-children are way too good to mop and sweep floors like "poor kids" he thinks should after school. And his gr-children are way too good to go to one of thee best public schools in the U.S. along with other super-smart kids. What's up with this Newt???
Lastly; let's review Newt and his new found religion. America, I beg of you - please don't blame Catholicism for what you hear Newt say and see Newt do. He has obviously not read all the memo's, is totally lacking in the true knowledge of our faith and beliefs, and in no way should be looked at as representing true Catholicism. To start with, trying to turn a prayer breakfast into a political rally is a definite no-no. As a Catholic, his wife knew that, so why did she let him pontificate and step all over himself? Also, Newt claims to be pro-life which is a mainstay of our faith, but he supports capital punishment. Sorry, pro-life does not include cap-punishment. The exact definition of pro-life is: "The protection of life from conception to natural death." But fear not Newt, there are tons of people (liars) on the right who claim to be pro-life, when in fact they are only anti-abortion due to their vengence driven attachment to supporting capital punishment. Don't think so; just ask all your fellow Repub's who are running for president. And don't forget to ask Sean (I'm a Catholic too) Hannity or Bill (I'm a Catholic too) O'Reilly or any other number of "leaders" on the right how they define their pro-life position. If it includes supporting capital punishment, they ain't pro-life and they are big fat liars. And you can tell Sean I said so. I would, but he refuses to debate me on TV. And lest we forget; look at Newt's constituency - primarily the top 1%. I need to remind you of something Jesus said Newt; "It would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it would be for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven." Want to take a guess as to what Jesus was trying to say Newt???
I recently did a piece on integrity. Newt Gingrich is severely lacking in this very important and needed aspect of human nature. When combined with his arrogance and elitism, he is a very dangerous person who reminds me of Barry Goldwater. Newt does not deserve to be president. God help us if he gets elected.
"And don't forget to ask Sean (I'm a Catholic too) Hannity or Bill (I'm a Catholic too) O'Reilly or any other number of "leaders" on the right how they define their pro-life position. If it includes supporting capital punishment, they ain't pro-life and they are big fat liars. And you can tell Sean I said so."
AMEN! Someone after my own heart.
To Parac - If Newt did not say 12 year olds and said 18 year old college students...changing the child labor laws would be a mute point. 18 year olds are considered adults and would not come under child labor laws...so your point is not very valid. Further, depending on the state, teenagers at approximately 15 are able to get work permits, so yes, one would infer he is referring to children younger than 15.
Newt is an old relic from a different age that wants to continue his classism to stir up the crowd of supporters. He mentioned the story of his sweet granddaughter saving her money to purchase an Ipad. He did not tell us how she made the money. Maybe we can assume that such a sweet little girl just set up a lemonaide stand all summer and saved. Do you hear the violins? Or maybe we too can assume the worse like Newt did and say she sold her body or gave bj's; you know that illegal occupation. Hey, why not? Newt wants to stereotype the little poor kids that they are all in to crime to get money. Well right back at ya!!!!
Newt isn't qualified to be the head janitor.Newts real talent is selling BS to morons and idiots.Or to be more precise people who support him and think he's smart.Newt you need to stick your head in a toilet that's exactly what it was meant for.
