Low in polls, Santorum scores NH endorsement

Nashua, N.H. -- Rick Santorum may be stuck in the low single digits in New Hampshire polls, but the former senator from Pennsylvania got a boost from a key social conservative on Tuesday. Santorum won the support of activist and former GOP candidate for governor, Karen Testerman.

Testerman -- who previously served as a senior adviser to Rep. Michele Bachmann -- told NBC News by phone she had carefully considered each candidate before settling on Santorum. She served as the Minnesota Congresswoman's communications aide during a controversial staff disbanding in New Hampshire this fall.

"I think [Bachmann] is falling off the charts basically, much to many people's disappointment," Testerman told The Dartmouth earlier this month.

This week, Testerman narrowed her selection to Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. Just two days ago, she hosted a campaign event that bore witness to a heated but civil debate between Santorum and a voter on abortion and conception. Today, with just 6 weeks left before the January 10 New Hampshire primary, Testerman threw her support behind a candidate many see as the underdog -- a far cry from Gingrich, who won the influential endorsement of New Hampshire's largest paper, the Union Leader.

Nevertheless, Santorum is thrilled about any support he can get in a state where he receives 1% support, according to a recent survey by University of New Hampshire and WMUR.

“Karen has been a steadfast defender of life, family and the foundational values that make our nation great," Santorum told NBC News in a statement. "Karen understands the magnitude of this election, and her vote of confidence tonight is truly an honor.  I am excited to work with her as we move toward victory in the first-in-the-nation primary.”

Santorum returns to New Hampshire December 2-3 to campaign with Testerman and other state legislative endorsers.

It's funny how even Santorum gets more press than Ron Paul.

If you want to save America please vote for Dr. Paul.

I think you guys should have Ron Paul run independent....draw away from the other nut jobs.

Ron Paul is too radical and way to old to win.

H8theHype - it's not that he's too radical. It's just that he's not a Republican. Paul makes no excuses about using the Republican Party to gain a congressional seat. A lot of people are so brain dead, they'll vote for him as a Republican for Congress, but not as a Libertarian for Congress, though he says and does the same things during the campaign. So the trick then is finding a congressional district in which he could get that major party nomination.

But now he's trying to play that trick again on a national level. Different ballgame. Even this year, with this clown show of a nominating race, and Paul can't garner enough support to be seen as a viable challenger. There just doesn't seem to be any way the GOP will nominate a libertarian for president.

Ron Paul is consistent in his beliefs. I actually agree with a few of his positions, like not getting involved in foreign entanglements. What I don't understand is his anti-abortion position. I've always assumed Libertarians want government out of our private lives. How can one be a Libertarian and want government to interfere with a women's personal medical decision and still maintain Libertarian principles? Can someone explain?

If you want to save America, you certainly won't be voting for Ron Paul. Good old Ron votes for the 1%.

If you are worried about the 1% and fear the oil companies might lose their special tax cuts then Paul is your man, he voted to keep the tax cuts for the oil companies and never met a tax cut for the rich that he didn't like.

For the people, he voted not to increase the minimum wage. That vote alone shows that Paul could not care less for the people.

"Sanitarium Santorum" is a "Social Sadist," and is still in the Mental Hospital room. This GOP Clown has demented Cultural views, and is very intolerant to the differences of others. The only political platform that this mentally ill individual has is one of hate. Has America seen and heard enough of these GOP Clowns yet??? I hope so!

Sorry, but anyone who was working for Michelle Bachmann has lost all credibility, and thus isn't worth having his or her endorsement reported.

Anybody who would even consider endorsing Santorum for president has no credibility and is probably certifiably insane. Ever wonder why he's so low in the polls, even in Pennsylvania. He was dumped in PA and now he thinks he should be running the country and our lives? No way!

People like Karen Testerman will do anything to get their name on the news. I'd guess that the only GOP candidate who would talk to her was Sanitarium :-) Talking about scraping the bottom of the barrell.

Seriously, before Santorum lays his head down on the pillow at nite to go to sleep, is he really thinking about actually winning the nomination? If so, he and Ms. Testerman need some therapy.

Rick, give it up. You're delusional if you think you're going to be president. This endorsement from Karen Testerman is not going to help. She's a far right anti-abortion zealot. Nobody cares who she endorses. She's just another yahoo, living in a parallel universe. Stop embarrassing yourself and go away.

He'll probably get the endorsement of Pamela Gellar, and Orly Taitz, and half the hate groups listed in this country......so what...... no one else is going to vote for this loser no matter what.

none of us enjoy the position we are in. But dear sir what exactly are the positions the Republicans are espousing that will create jobs? I have heard Speaker Boehner say the word Jobs but cant quite figure out what he intends to do to help create them.

              Please explain

Santorum is a quack. No small wonder he only lasted 1 term as a Senator.

Well -- we've had Palin, Huckabee, Pawlenty, Trump, Christie, Bachmann, Perry, Cain and Newt all be flavors of the month among this collection of idiots the Republican party is fielding for president, so now it must be Santorum's turn.

Please don't say that santorum is going to be the next flavor of the month. Yuck.
