Subscribe to RSSCONCORD, N.H. -- In between campaign stops in New Hampshire today, Huntsman said that the latest "bimbo eruptions" surrounding rival Herman Cain have damaged the quality of the GOP race for the White House. The former Utah governor suggested the former pizza CEO should consider leaving the race for the Republican nomination.
“We’ve got real issues to talk about not the latest bimbo eruption,” Huntsman told the Boston Herald editorial board today. He went on to imply that the recent allegation of a 13-year extra-marital affair created “too much of a cloud, in some people’s minds, as to whether or not they would be able to support us going forth.”
Watching the allegations unfold last night on the news from his hotel in New Hampshire, Huntsman told the Globe he asked himself, “‘What about a (financial) downgrade that is being anticipated? What about Europe? What about so many other issues out there that we ought to be talking about and that people ought to understand where candidates come down on those issues?’”
Huntsman, who as of late has seen a minor uptick in Granite State polls, implied that given the combination of sexual allegations and distractions from policy discussions, Cain should consider dropping out of the race. Typically, Huntsman rarely mentions his rivals by name on the campaign trail.
“Given the bandwidth that has been taken out of the discussion of any other issues pertinent to this campaign, a reconsideration might be in order," he told the Boston Globe at a separate editorial meeting.
“Every time another accusation comes up, it diminishes our ability to stay focused on the issues that really do matter for the American people. And I think that’s a disservice to the voters," he told the Globe.
Huntsman declined to take questions on the issue at his campaign stop this evening in Concord.

Huntsman is absolutely correct. The media much prefers to pursue the sensational rather than deal with important issues.
Part of the reason the voting public is so misinformed.
Huntsman is absoultly right, the media love talking about everything that doesn't really matter such as Cain's accuser's.Who know's how much time has been spent on this nonsense. One crazy idea would be to talk about issues that matter to the public. I found it scarey that Cain couldn't remember ANYTHING about Libiya, hell, he probably can't find it on a map like most American's can't.
I've lost my job, do I care about Cain's sex life, no as a matter of fact I don't. If I was still working would I care to hear from anyone about Cain's personal life no I would not.
I care because I don't want to elect someone with a track record for abusing positions of power by harassing women.

I would say he used the word right. Huntsman and Paul are the only two candidates for the GOP that deserve the nomination and presidency. People should be completely ashamed for even considering the other scum that is running.

I always thought that if you were going to use, or characterize the women at the center of any cheating, harassment or other innuendo-tinged allegation as a "bimbo" then you should give equal time to to the other side of the equation with the liberal use of the term douche-bag or dick-head. it takes two to tango.

I am not trying to go back in time, but I seem to remember alot ofpeople on the left calling Monica Lewinski a lot of names worse than the choice of words that Huntsman used. I believe Huntsman was not referring specifically to Cain, but to the overall mind set that any time a woman raises a point about questionable conduct, the media drops all other news and focuses on the latest scandal. It might have been a poor choice of words, but its better than what Cain is accused of doing!
I find the "bimbo" reference offensive. These were not the 20-somethings hanging on to Hugh Hefner. These were mature women who have not come across looking for media fame to further a career but the simple fact that Cain, a candidate for highest office in the land, is lying to the public about what increasingly appears to be a sordid past of sexual harassment. Up to this point I felt Huntsman represented a GOP candidate that stood above the rest. With this statement I've lost some respect for him.
Based on the snafu's that I have seen coming out of the Republican primary, I still think that Huntsman is the only one with a brain!
Well…it happened. Sooner than I expected, but on target nevertheless. Cain will most likely withdraw!! Who knows really if the lady in question is telling the truth, or if she was paid, or if she is nuts. No matter what her aim, Obama would never allow another black to run against him as it would dilute the black vote too much and he knows he’s dead in the water without the black majority. Period! I wondered how Cain would be eliminated; now I know. Just how much farther will Obama go to reduce the playing fields? Then there is the matter of wondering just how Cain expected to run for president and NOT have this come out if it is true!
I’m waiting for them to play the Mormon/Mexico card on Romney….more to come. The DEMs are going to pick the GOP candidate and you better beleive it!
Sad! It is true that John Huntsman is the probably the most intelligent among the GOP candidates but his "bimbo" reference is a clear indication that he is both a part of the "good ol' boy" mentality (and problem.) Huntsman lacks a genuine understanding of what these women have had to endure and the courage it took to come forward, and he has shown his prejudice. Huntsman has now proven himself to be just another shoddy politician; shame on him.
I guess if you want to sling a little mud at Huntsman, this is a good opportunity, there seems to be room for some interperatation of his comment. There is also cause to be offended, especially if you're a Bimbo. It is at very least provacative.
But, nevertheless, he is right. "Bimbo Eruptions" control the news cycle. Now, if he is only referring to this latest Cain moment, I think the word Bimbo can be applied accurately. "She" is a Bimbo for having a 13 year affair with a married man, she endured what she WANTED to endure, and I think Cain is a slimeball.
There is nothing about this statement that connects it directly to those women who have come forward alleging sexual harassment though. Those who want to make that connection must know more about Huntsman than I do or just jumping to conclusions.
I'm sure that Huntsman has no skeletons in his closet. Hope he doesn't live in a glass house.

I think Bimbo is too kind for Cain if these allegations prove to be true. Bottom line is I agree with Huntsman's notion the the conversation needs to be elevated, even if he went to the basement to express that notion.

This is a little off topic, but I would like to see Huntsman taken more seriously as a candidate. He is has broad knowledge of business and government, he is rich enough not to influenced by money, his core values are that of a fiscal conservative libral and social values of a liberal consecutive. That puts him in the center of the independent vote...which is 60% of the electorate.
He is this generation's Bill Buckley. He strikes me as an Urbain snob who would never invite me to his party, but that is ok. I'm not looking for a friend, I'm looking for someone to watch the hen house.
