Subscribe to RSSCONCORD, N.H. -- In between campaign stops in New Hampshire today, Huntsman said that the latest "bimbo eruptions" surrounding rival Herman Cain have damaged the quality of the GOP race for the White House. The former Utah governor suggested the former pizza CEO should consider leaving the race for the Republican nomination.
“We’ve got real issues to talk about not the latest bimbo eruption,” Huntsman told the Boston Herald editorial board today. He went on to imply that the recent allegation of a 13-year extra-marital affair created “too much of a cloud, in some people’s minds, as to whether or not they would be able to support us going forth.”
Watching the allegations unfold last night on the news from his hotel in New Hampshire, Huntsman told the Globe he asked himself, “‘What about a (financial) downgrade that is being anticipated? What about Europe? What about so many other issues out there that we ought to be talking about and that people ought to understand where candidates come down on those issues?’”
Huntsman, who as of late has seen a minor uptick in Granite State polls, implied that given the combination of sexual allegations and distractions from policy discussions, Cain should consider dropping out of the race. Typically, Huntsman rarely mentions his rivals by name on the campaign trail.
“Given the bandwidth that has been taken out of the discussion of any other issues pertinent to this campaign, a reconsideration might be in order," he told the Boston Globe at a separate editorial meeting.
“Every time another accusation comes up, it diminishes our ability to stay focused on the issues that really do matter for the American people. And I think that’s a disservice to the voters," he told the Globe.
Huntsman declined to take questions on the issue at his campaign stop this evening in Concord.

It is an ugly, degrading term and you know it. It is meant to hurt the person or persons it is referencing and a man running to be the leader of the free world should be above that kind of schoolyard garbage. But then, the man believes some convicted con man called Joe Smith is a "prophet". That alone removes him for any consideration for the presidency, along with Mittens. I'm Pretty sure Huntsman said the "latest bimbo eruptions" which implies more than one which means the women he sexually harassed and assaulted.
I really did not think that Huntsman was calling any of the women "bimbos". I thought it was a reference to the media frenzy caused by these things. I did not think it was a personal attack on anyone. Just a distraction.

I've liked Huntsman and it's sad to see the only non-clown in the field ignored by the Republican base (that tells you something). But it's also telling that he refers to these women as "bimbos". Haven't heard him use an analogous derisive term for the philandering husband....

I take exception to referring to a woman who is having an affair with a married man as a bimbo. It takes two to have an affair. A 13 year affair is not just "an affair", it becomes a serious relationship. If a woman is a bimbo, in this case, what is he? Just a guy whose made a mistake? I think he is a lot worse than a bimbo. He started it, by inviting her to his room after drinks and then continuing it by keeping on seeing her and buying gifts and taking her on trips, etc. And don't use the "she didn't have to continue it" excuse. He is the one who was married. She was single at time. It was upon him to do the right thing, not her.

Although I agree with Huntsman on this issue, the Republicans have far bigger problems with the positions they actually do take on the other, more serious issues of the day.

According to a lot of the responses here I'd say Huntsman's comments were well proved out. He complained about the distraction to policies and events that matter and the commentators around here can't do anything but focus on a phrase he used to make his point. Typical teagoppers. As for Cain: I think it is time he levels with us and tells the damn truth. Tell the truth, Herman, apologize for it, and move on. People will respect you more for it and you may just get some votes back. What you did pales in comparison with what Bill Clinton did and he won the presidency.

No, it's what a little research and some reading can do for you. He was drawing parallels between Cain and Clinton and how the attention brought to their affair allegations was wasted time that could be focused on the issues. It's a commonly used term and I provided you with some links to back it up. It seems most of the people on here don't even know that "bimbo eruptions" is an expression that exists since the 1990's, all you care about is political correctness.
So Huntsman, women that complain of sexual harassment are bimbos. Huntsman was the only Republican candidate I could or would consider. I guess that just went out the window.
I agree that Jon's choice of description for these women associated with Cain as 'bimbo' is very unfortunate...he struck me as the only sane one in the bunch (or at least pandered to the base the least), but I really do not approve of his characterization.
