CONCORD, N.H. -- In between campaign stops in New Hampshire today, Huntsman said that the latest "bimbo eruptions" surrounding rival Herman Cain have damaged the quality of the GOP race for the White House. The former Utah governor suggested the former pizza CEO should consider leaving the race for the Republican nomination.
“We’ve got real issues to talk about not the latest bimbo eruption,” Huntsman told the Boston Herald editorial board today. He went on to imply that the recent allegation of a 13-year extra-marital affair created “too much of a cloud, in some people’s minds, as to whether or not they would be able to support us going forth.”
Watching the allegations unfold last night on the news from his hotel in New Hampshire, Huntsman told the Globe he asked himself, “‘What about a (financial) downgrade that is being anticipated? What about Europe? What about so many other issues out there that we ought to be talking about and that people ought to understand where candidates come down on those issues?’”
Huntsman, who as of late has seen a minor uptick in Granite State polls, implied that given the combination of sexual allegations and distractions from policy discussions, Cain should consider dropping out of the race. Typically, Huntsman rarely mentions his rivals by name on the campaign trail.
“Given the bandwidth that has been taken out of the discussion of any other issues pertinent to this campaign, a reconsideration might be in order," he told the Boston Globe at a separate editorial meeting.
“Every time another accusation comes up, it diminishes our ability to stay focused on the issues that really do matter for the American people. And I think that’s a disservice to the voters," he told the Globe.
Huntsman declined to take questions on the issue at his campaign stop this evening in Concord.

Bill may have liked the ladies but,he knew his politics !!!!
Bimbos? Ah, another Republican who cares about all the people...who shows respect for all the people...Personally, I am glad for all these Republican representatives....I won't have to worry about the next election.
"bimbo" can be a dicey word there to throw around. For a married man with many daughters himself, I'm not certain that's the best angle of approach.
Not certain that that choice of words is any better than 'Princess Nancy'.
Yeah, he might be the smartest one, but he doesn't really care for women either. It is always the woman's fault. Really, Jon, "Bimbo". I bet this "bimbo" is not a whore as Cain is.
He is right, tho, we do not know where any of the candidates stand except make our President a one term president.
Doesn't matter to me who they pick, 2012 Obama/Biden.
slightlyold
You're making the assumption that women other than feminuts are going to be offended by that cement. I would venture to suggest that many women, including those on the left, would call a woman who carried on 13 year long affair a slightly less endearing term.
If the women are bimbos, then what is Cain?
But of course, always blame the women for "making him" get into an affair, because it's always their fault when a man decides to do this, right?
Perhaps too many mormons spoil the broth. Gee, Hunstman, just when you thought you found one who do the 3 "R's", readin', writin', and rithimetic', you find out you were wrong all along. Sad sad sad.
Huntsman is just another republican twit. The party of family values? Adams family maybe.
And here I thought Huntsman might be a decent Republican. Women who make sexual allegations are "Bimbos"? And the poor guys are just being guys. What a disappointment. I guess the last decent Republican candidate is dead and buried. With apologies to President Eisenhower.
Hey Im a strong obama supporter , although he's not my savior for all our woes, we need to save our selves on many issues,
but Huntsman does have a level of decorum and intelligence that's sure to ruin his chances as a republican nominee,
I think both sides need to acknowledged some positive facts and actions of the other, it shows credibility to agree with your rival/enemy? once in a while , it seems the Reps will disagree with everything, the earth is not round Mister President you must be a treasonous flat earth hatter!!
Moderate Phil - I too at one time thought Huntsman was a good guy until I dug a little deeper - Huntsman supports Paul Ryan's privatization of Social Security - and the latest remark of "Bimbos" - really the women who worked at NRA are degreed professionals and they can't put the label Democrats on them, they were all registered Republicans
Plus looking into what the NRA lobbies for really angered me - supressing the minimum wage? - shame on some of their members including Star Bucks for supported this right wing lobbying group.
So now the real Huntsman comes out - women who are sexually harassed are "bimbos"
Where's gloria. She would be upset by the use of the term bimbo. It causes her to go on the attack. And where is michele. What does she think about what cain. Why has she kept silent on the cain matter. She needs to jump in the middle of all this and straighten things out.
bimbo eruptions!!!! apparently this dumb ba$tard isn't aware that women won the right to vote in the country. before his father was born.
it's interesting how religious views change in this country. once upon a time, being a catholic was grounds to deny citizenship. when i was a kid we put one in the white house (and then they damned near killed the whole family) and now, thanks to the conservative right appointing 5 of them to the supreme court, the pope is running the country.
i can hardly wait to see what happens next. a candidate from the church of the sub-genius (all hail our lord and savior bob dobbs)? or maybe somebody from the church of the flying spaghetti monster? if it wasn't for the rampant and overwhelming majority of turd-heads living in the good old USA, it wouldn't even by any fun living here.
listen up guys:
bim·bo
[bim-boh] Show IPA
noun, plural -bos, -boes. Slang .
1.
a foolish, stupid, or inept person.
2.
a man or fellow, often a disreputable or contemptible one.
3.
an attractive but stupid young woman, especially one withloose morals.
Real classy there Huntsman,
So every woman that is sexually harassed is just a "bimbo", is that correct??? Or maybe you meant that Cain is a male "bimbo"...
Am I the only one who is more upset by the underlying message here, rather than the use of a questionable label? Huntsman just declared that Cain should drop out because of the current problem he is facing in the media (and the only reason this is getting so much airtime is because it is a "juicier" story for the media to latch on to than France's possible impending rating downgrade, or the most recent unemployment figures.) I'd be interested to hear what is someone supposed to do once elected, if this is the standard of conduct, should some hurdle arise? Perhaps the media jumps on an unpopular policy, or some group starts making trouble that overshadows more "urgent" matters? Should the President just quit?
Rather than dragging themselves further down into the muck by contributing to this nonsense, maybe these candidates should worry about creating and maintaining an image as the "better option" through own thier words and deads. Stop the mud-slinging, stop the back-stabbing, stop treating each other as enemies, regardless of which side of the aisle you sit on. Stop believing that the top priority of your job is to get elected (or re-elected) and to make sure the other guy isn't, and remember that you are supposed to serve the people and NOT just the most extreme elements of your party. Maybe then we could get something accomplished and restore a bit of popular faith in our government.
"Huntsman said that the latest "bimbo eruptions"................."
If women have the courage to come forth for the purpose of exposing the sexual harassment by and marital infidelity of Mr. Cain and are thus labeled "bimbos" by Huntsman what does that make him? It seems to me that it makes Huntsman unfit to sit in the big chair in D.C.
If the accusations against Mr. Cain prove to be true one can only assume that Mr. Cain is a practiced liar, which is nothing new for many politicians and many of those seeking political office, and one can also probably assume that Mr. Huntsman would not have the courage to apologize to the women he labeled "bimbos".
Vote republicans of the current times and I would'nt be surprised that USA will crumble like the Roman Empire. So vote republicans and USA would be a 3rd world country sooner.
So ultimately US VOTERS alone can decide .
Good Luck 2012 knocking on our doors.
Alpha Omega
If only the Democrats offered anything better.
While I object to the term "bimbo eruption," I'll live with it just as I did when Obama referenced the special olympics. It has, for good or not, become an expression of "shorthand" speech and does not necessarily indicate the individuals' beliefs. I'm more concerned that this is what the media is finally reporting.
In actuality, Huntsman has the most consistent and rational conservative record that he really governed with while governor. He expresses a series of policy views that are based in the complexity of systems a politician needs to account for in real governance. This is just about the first attention he is getting because it is the first thing he has said that can be put in a sound bite.
It is getting to where the political news should be reported on "E News!"
So Huntsman thinks these women are bimbos? Does he think all women who stick up for themselves are bimbos? Is his wife a bimbo?
It`s scary to even think what kind of America this would be under any of these candidates, these people are crazy...
Huntsman is the only member of the GOTP slate that I'd even consider voting for, but these are a couple of the dumbest comments he has made.
Not that they aren't factually correct, but the term "bimbo" is crude and could have been stated differently, in a manner more consistent with the approach he has taken so far, and the inference that "this" episode has diminished the quality of the GOTP campaign (granted, those are the reporter's words) could only come from someone who hasn't been paying attention.
Even as a liberal voter, I find the entire cast of fools on the Republican side truly sad. You would think that in a country as great and diverse as ours that there could be at least one conservative voice with two brain cells in their possession.
Once again the right wing shows how it's not capable of leading anyone let alone the United States. Huntsman's characterization of the woman who came forward is not only insulting but clearly shows the lack of compassion. These woman who came forward were professionals and were simply trying to do their jobs while he may believe they were "BIMBOS" for some reason not known to the rest of us it's something I think he needs to apologize for. The only "bimbo" in the whole story I can see is Herman Cain sick bastard that he is.
That's Huntsman's problem. He wants to talk about real issues and he is the only candidate with his head on straight and has some intelligence. If he started running his mouth about how he is appointed by god and how he wants to electrocute Mexicans and gays, his poll numbers would soar.
wow - I've been a Christian and conservative all my life, but the only force I experience is the (democrat) tax man coercising false compassion from me and every one else. And "In God We Trust" proves that while the nation's government has no official religion, it certainly was not set up to thwart anyone's free expression, many government officials in all three branches espousing almost exclusively Judeo-Christian ideas openly. when you skew rabid left you miss these little details.....
Time for a little education. "In God we Trust" was added to money in 1864, long after the US was created. The "under God" was added to the pledge in 1954. And "In God we Trust" was made the motto of the US in 1956. This God stuff was all added long after the country was founded. The founding fathers wanted God out of government. Radical right added it all in afterwards and then has convinced Christians that the country was founded on this. All lies (which isn't very Christian).
Huntsman called the women who have been harassed by cain, as well as one who had a consentual affair, "bimbos". I hope they all bring libel suits against this loser. Stay classy, Magic Underwear Man.
And people, please stop saying he is the "smart" one - he is as bad as the rest but the press has been kind enough to ignore his herp to instead bring us the weapons-grade derp from the other guys.
And stinky pig, I was unaware that the IRS is populated only by registered Democrats. And having that stupid slogan on the currency is an insult to religous freedom (and the right to be free from religion altogether). But don't worry - people are using sharpies to mark that silliness off bills every day and it will soon be hard to find one that still has it.
I'm pretty sure the "Bimbo Eruption" he's talking about is the "13-year extra-marital affair" and not the sexual assault cases. In which case, I think the term applies. Bimbo Eruptions always seem to happen on campaign trails and it always detracts. That's the point I see him making, and it is true. We are still talking about it. Why don't we take a look at his jobs plan or economic plan and judge the man by that?
Krit Petty - I saw the interview with Ms Ginger White - first of all she is not married and while I don't approve of her choice of men, I wonder why people are not focusing on Cain, who used NRA monies to carry on this affair - lavish gifts, travel expenses, flying into Vegas with her to see the Mike Tyson fight and on and on - no wonder he was asked to resign six months before his contract was up
This guy is a "cheat and a liar" He padded his expense accounts, committed adultery, lied to the public and worse his wife and family, and finally he is a buffoon - other than that - as someone posted yesterday "but he sings in his church choir" Ha!
