Cain on campaign status: '9-9-9. We're doing fine'

Herman Cain responded to a question from NBC News in Michigan today about whether he has plans to drop out of the presidential race. Cain said, "9-9-9. 9-9-9. We're doing fine."

HILLSDALE, MI -- Herman Cain brushed off a question about whether he plans to drop out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination, returning to a familiar refrain: his "9-9-9" tax plan.

Ahead of a foreign policy speech planned this evening in Michigan, Cain dodged a question about whether he plans to abandon his presidential ambitions after having told staff this morning that he would spend the next two days reassessing his campaign.

"9-9-9. 9-9-9. We're doing fine," Cain told NBC News upon leaving his hotel at Hillsdale College for his speech on campus tonight.

Cain's campaign has downplayed the reassessment, framing it as a routine examination of the campaign's trajectory.

"Mr. Cain told staff simply that, just as every time significant events occur, a reassessment is prudent," deputy campaign manager Linda Hansen said this afternoon. "A good businessman looks at the entire landscape before making decisions. He is, and has been, committed to promoting the issues and solutions that will make this nation stronger. Nothing about that has changed."

Hermie would be better off calling 9-1-1...

he would spend the next two days reassessing his campaign.

Wouldn't it be more prudent to reassess your MARRIAGE ya freak?

Didn't we have our fill of turkey last week?

Have you noticed the 'FAMILY VALUES' party isn't singing the same tune these days? They booooo a gay soldier, cheer the death penalty - innocent or not, and have claimed Scrooge as their leader.

And today Ms. Bachmann is thrilled that everything is going her way... What a country!

Geez, can the press never get anything right?

He didn't say 9-9-9, he said Nein, Nein, Nein!

He would be a great president and go down in history as the only one to run his office completely by rhyme with no need for reason. Just like Dr. Seuss. I see a large Baptist congregation under his able control after a successful 27 year presidency? What? only 8? Aahh, doesnt 9-9-9 = 27? Oh, that's right it equals negative 9. My bad!

All of the GOP/TP candidates have absolutely no 'self-awareness'.....they would never face the reality that they are not qualified to run for, let alone be President!

The voices in their heads have drowned out all reasonableness.....

To Republicans: There's an old saying: "Be careful what you wish for"

You had just about gotten rid of Herman Cain, whom you know you're NOT going to allow to get anywhere near the White House, when some darn fools started defending Cain's indefensible actions which made Cain's ears spring up.

Now you've done it, here he is, Herman Cain, AGAIN.

Heaven only knows how Republicans will get rid of Herman Cain before the Primary.

Please stay in the race Mr. Cain. You are way to entertaining to quit now. Besides, Republican voters only hold their opponents to the high standards they set for others. They routinely give their own a pass (see Vitter, David).

If Mr. Cain leaves the race and it becomes a two man race between Weathervane Willard and Newt "I am not a salamander" Gingrich, I just may have to hit the snooze button. Maybe Rick Perry or batchitcrazy Michelle will make a come back. Or maybe my prayers will be answered and Sister Sarah will finally decide to jump in. The water's fine Sarah!

What a selfish pig. As long as his little "inappropriate" liaisons where kept quiet he presented himself, all smoke and mirrors, as a family man, as an ethical & moral man who hypocritically said was defending "marriage".... what a hoot! Comes to be he's a lying, cheating, horn dog who, in his old age, still can't keep it in his pants.... covers up his actions yet demands respect and loyalty while pointing the finger at others behavior.....

I hope that those that gave him money, followed his every word and decided they would support him will now "reassess' exactly what qualities are needed for a leader. Don't get me wrong, I don't care who this dog "does", that's their bad taste, what I do have exception to is all the rest: lying, twisting events, acting the victim, disrespecting other people, being a hypocrite, etc. Not to say that any of the others are moral standards either.... but if you belong to a party that keeps saying it's the party of "marriage", religion, morals, that state that anyone that represents them be and live CHRISTIAN, and all the rest.... you'd think they'd practice CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES (instead of being for killing the uninsured and the poor, abandoning the elderly, selling out to lobbyists and big business and they would pick better people to choose from, right?

They've given us greedy, materialistic, amoral, liars, cheaters, unethical and hypocritical people to pick a candidate from and I'm not alright with it. How about you? There isn't anyone there that's worth my vote!!!!!!

I will never forget the pained look of embarrassment on Hillary Clinton's face and the courage it took to stay married to that guy.

No First Lady and no Nation should have to deal with a man who can't keep his pants up, fly closed and hands to himself.. Especially, if he is President!... It's a shame, I liked Herman Cain's political style; however, I love America.. We don't need a repeat of the past... It's time for Herman Cain to apologise to his wife, the nation and fade quietly away...

      Mikela,

Does it matter which GOP candidate is Mormon? Are you now picking a president by what church they attend on Sunday? If that's the case, Obama was raised Muslim, and didn't "convert to Christianity" until he became politically active in his mid 20's. Plus, in the last three years, you can count on one hand how many times Obama has been in a "Christian" Church on Sunday. So, I really think we are way past religion, at this point in the game.

Personally, I don't care what church these candidates (from either party) go to on Sunday.. Just as long as they are back to work, cleaning up this country's legislative mess on Monday!

Obama was not raised a Muslim. He lived with his step father for 4 years of his life. From birth to 6, he was raised by his mother, from 10-18, he was raised by his grandparents, and none of them were Muslim.

What was the purpose of the "13-year" funds?

Were any reimbursement, advance or "substantiation" statements, signed by him as an officer with a fiduciary duty to the organization, false statements?

If so, the Board has a fiduciary duty to recourp them, perhaps with interest.

If it occurred, does the Board have an obligation to report embezzlement, theft, misappropriation to the legal authoiities?

Would they be wise for the Board to conduct at Freeh-type independent investigation by forensic accountants to protect themselves from having, or have a defense against, alleged claimed knowledge or complicity or negligence?

Does Herm lose (or even have) any indemnification and insurance protection from NRA under these circumstances?

Who is the custodian of the records? Who has custody and control now? Will the reimbursement records be made public to try to recoup the already-tarnished reputation of the NRA?

Maybe HERM criminal lawyer is not just along for the ride.

Who is the NRA regular (and truly independent if any) current legal counsel?

Will they appoint an internal investigation with the integrity, resources and independent of the Freeh Penn State inquiry?

And if so, do the Board have the latitude, and/or obligation, to seek recoupment of any salary, pension, retirement or other benefits and pay he may have obtained under the representation that at all times he was in compliance with all applicable law?

If it occurred, would the Board be wise to have an independent inquiry such as the Freeh-type (independent, unquestionable integrity, outstanding experience and adequate resources) inquiry by forensic accountants? Does the Board have an obligation to report any alleged embezzlement, theft, misappropriation it may discover to the legal authorities? Would the Board be wise to do so, to protect themselves from having, or have a defense against, alleged claimed knowledge or complicity or negligence?

POTENTIAL TAX AND OTHER POTENTIAL LIABILITY

If he received any "13 year" or other money as so-called "reimbursement", and it was in the service of non-NRA business, is it income to him?

If so, did he report it as taxable income for 13 years (along with any other non-NRA reimbursement), and is that a pattern of tax fraud?

Does the Board have an obligation to report any alleged embezzlement, theft, misappropriation it may discover to the legal authorities? Would the Board be wise to do so, to protect themselves from having, or have a defense against, alleged claimed knowledge or complicity or negligence?

Does Herm lose any indemnification and insurance protection from NRA under these circumstances?

Who is the custodian of the records? Who has custody and control now? Will the reimbursement records be made public to try to recoup the already-tarnished reputation of the NRA?

Who is the NRA regular (and truly independent if any) current legal counsel?

POTENTIAL TAX AND OTHER POTENTIAL LIABILITY

If he received any "13 year" or other money as so-called "reimbursement", and it was in the service of non-NRA business, is it income to him?

If so, did he report it as taxable income for 13 years (along with any other non-NRA reimbursement), and is that a pattern of tax fraud?

Ginger White, and a prosecutor, would not be anonymous.

Has a grand jury already been empaneled and granted Ginger White use (complete) immunity?

I see nothing wrong with Feisty's avatar. At least it's an original & not a copycat.

As far as the topic goes, Cain is now a joke. Unless one sees it in Washington's terms. It appears that a honest, sane, straight up member of our society is ineligible to be a politician, or a serious candidate for being one.

One thing that you can believe, if Cain would abuse the trust of his own wife, what makes one think that he would actually give a damn about us?

He only cares for his own needs.

Of course you'll have an overwhelming response from fawning liberals who can't think for themselves like most liberals. Let me let you in on a little secret from a conservative here: We don't sit around and watch Fox News all day. I was a conservative way before it came along and much more conservative than Fox typically is. So you can label us that way, but conservatives like myself know I get my information from mutiple sources. Unlike you and your other Socialists/Liberals/Progressives(backward thinking(/Marxists/Commies/Commie-wanna-bes. Let's guess where you get yours: MSNBC (Matthews, Maddow, ODonnell), Bill Maher, Media Matters (Soros owned), Jon Stewart. See how I said that, without vulgar language, which shows quite a bit of class there Feisty!!

Robert, there's a big difference between molesting children and adult women. You have to be a total pervert to molest children. Cain, on the other hand, is just another philandering wannabe who can't keep his pants zipped and who can't admit he does not have a single qualification that makes him a viable candidate.

They can't fix the mess that they created, so they want BO to win and fix it for them! If you don't believe me...just look at the republican candidates!!!!!!!!!! Downhill slide? I don think so.

When he took office the UE rate was over 7.5% and we were hemorrhaging a half a million jobs per MONTH. We've now had over 18 months of consecutive economic growth. Anemic growth admittedly, but considering the crater we were in in 2009, the hole we are in now looks pretty darn good by comparison. That's no "downhill slide".

If the Reoubs had not blocked every single proposal the President put forward over the last 2 years, we'd be in even better shape.

But the Repubs dont want a robust middle class and economy......they just want Obama to fail so they might gain power.

Actually when Obama took office jobs were being lost at the rate of 750,000 per month. We have now had 20 months of positive job growth and almost 3 million jobs have been added to the economy.

When Bush became president the unemployment rate was 4.2% but when he left the unemployment rate was 7.8% and climbing. Bush has the worst job creation record of any US President since records were first kept in 1939. In fact only 3 million jobs were created in 8 years with Bush vs 23 million under Clinton!

More jobs would have been created under Obama if the Republicons didn't block every single bill to add jobs to the economy.

You people just don't get it. Doc Rock, current unemployment is over 9% and is stalled. At Bush's departure 7.5%(your words). Sid, regardless if Bush caused all our troubles, Obama has had three years to turn it around and has nothing but more debt to show for it. Molly, more jobs would have been created if republicans didn't block everything? Are you serious? He had the biggest ever stimulus package handed to him as Bush was leaving office and wasted it all, mostly in giveaways, nothing to show for it. Why would they even entertain the thought of passing his current jobs bill. Pitiful.

I think he's spineless. But I'd like to have seen what he would have done if your right wing rich boy's toads hadn't been obstructing all the way. Our savior big O is not a clown like the Nine Stooges that
you used tea bags call presidential contenders.

Your strength lies in the veracity of your insults. You seem to think that the nastier you are
            the more forceful your arguments.

Perpetual criticisms of the president does not require any
brain power. Even the brain dead used
tea bags can criticize the president.

The problem is that when you are required to think outside
the sphere of perpetual criticism you have a brain fart.

You know that you are against the president’s decisions, but you can’t articulate because you have nothing upstairs.

What fills us, followers of our savior big O, with great
joy, is that you are going to have the next four years to perfect your art of
idiotic infantile criticisms of our great president.

Even GM and Chrysler were forgiven billions in payback from TARP stimulus. There's no reason to think he would do anything different with the jobs bill he wants passed now. You'll never understand it, so sit down and wait till next Nov. and we'll talk more when the wash comes out.

Is the Green Party running a candidate?

Obamanatic: Everything I said about the stimulus is fact. Look it up.

imnotlost, the facts, economics, and history simply don't support your case. Unemployment is a LAGGING economic indicator, which means it bottoms AFTER the weakest part of the recession. Manufacturing is a LEADING economic indicator. Unemployment numbers tend to lag by about 6 to 9 months, although those averages extend during extreme recessions like this one. Google "Institute of Supply Management manufacturing index" and follow along. Industry in the U.S. was sucking wind and in sharply recessionary territory when GWB left office. It shot up a few months after BO took office, went from negative territory to positive territory then it stabilized, then it came back down but REMAINED IN POSITIVE TERRITORY. Which shows that the stimulus is working, albeit slowly. This isn't a political opinion, this is looking at the same charts economists have watched for 200 years.

OK Barry: There's credence in what you say, but there should be some sign of job growth by now, but where is it? Now he wants more and what's he going to do with it. He doesn't have a clue and has surrounded himself with people just like him. If he gets re-elected and we have the same thing in 2016, the same people will still be blaming Bush because they hate Rebublicans so. It's time to re-assess who we want to be running the country.

                #9.11 - Tue Nov 29, 2011 9:33 PM EST

imsolost. The job growth is all around, all you have to do is open your eyes. Also, TARP was NOT a stimulus program, it was a bandaid to stop the bleeding. I love how you say people are "blaming Bush" but you wingnuts to this day, blame Carter for a recession that hit 6 months AFTER he left office, and Clinton for one that started 2 months after he left office. This recession started a year before Obama was elected, it was the worst contraction of the GDP since the recession, its going to take a lot more time before employment numbers are low again. Hell, after the recession of 2001, it took over 5 years for the unemployment rates to fall to what it was before it, and that was a very mild recession.

Imnotlost: You claim Barack Obama squandered money. How? What did he spend it on? He was forced to give the bush tax cuts to the rich in order to get anything done. Also the ilk of Eric Cantor who says the disaster-declared areas should only be helped by a corresponding spending offset and yet didn't say a word when it affected his backyard in Virginia. I guess he should have looked to his neighbors to help out instead of looking to the government.

Facts are facts, and the housing collapse is predominantly a Democrat originating issue. It was Democrats who allowed garbage loans, it was Democrats who blocked efforts for 8 years to fix the housing bubble. In the last 100 years, its been Democrats who have held the majority in Congress for a substantially higher amount then Republicans. Finally, its a fact that Obama had 2 years he was able to pass anything without a single Republican approval in congress. Where is his fix? He has had a super majority for 2 years and all he has done is inflate another bubble.

All I see are liberal opinions here and frankly they sound like desperate childish rantings. People who really have no clue about what anyone else in the usa thinks.

Like;Obama is to expensive for this nation. Anyone is better then the statues quo.

Like; all of obamas ideas are to pricey for a nation who under obamas watch has spent and wants to spend money this nation cannot afford.

Like; Yes Even herman Cain is a better choice then the statues quo.

Like; This nation needs change from the change crap this nation stepped into when they voted for a man who claimed to be middle and was way over the cliff in spending money we cannot afford.

There is a year to decide who is going to clean up the enormous destruction the democrats created.

God bless not damn America it has been damned for far to long by the destructive democratic spending spree.

Everyone in this nation owes 180.000 at least half of that was spent under obamas watch. What in anyones mind would make obama a choice for the future a future of 250.000, 500,000 a million? What do you want to owe your nation.

This nation needs and deserves much better then the drag it into a third world it has gotten over the last five years of democratic foolishness.

The people spoke loud and clear when they voted in record numbers of republicans. They clearly havent spoken loud enough and I dont think for one minute they are done speaking up.

So, when exactly will your great repub landslide begin to do something to help the people of this country? So far, it's totally been about removing Obama; nothing the repubs have done is helping our economy. Where do you think the 'give more money to the millionaires' concept will get us? Really!

Even looking at numerous polls, people (both parties) are overwhelming okay with a more fair tax on the upper income groups. But repub's don't see that; they ignore even what their own base tells them.

Seriously, the whole repub goal is to get rid of Obama. That's it. Has NOTHING to do with making this country stronger, more robust, and moving forward. It's all about THEM. STOP BEING THE PARTY OF NOOOO, already!
