Cain tells staff he's reassessing campaign

Will the newest recent allegations Herman Cain seal his fate?

Herman Cain told senior campaign staff members Tuesday that he's "reassessing" his campaign in the wake of a fresh allegation that he engaged in a 13-year-long extramarital affair.

Steve Grubbs, the candidate's Iowa campaign chairman, confirms to NBC News that Cain said he's taking a step back, much as he did after his finish in the Ames Straw Poll in August, to evaluate the direction of his campaign. The call included Cain's 50 state directors, and the reassessment will occur over the next two days.

This reassessment coincides with a new allegation from Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who says that she and Cain engaged in an affair for well over a decade, one that ended only recently. Cain has denied the affair.

Cain reiterated his claim, made yesterday in reaction to the new allegation, that White was simply a friend who he had sought to help financially, and that nothing inappropriate had happened between the two of them.

The former Godfather's Pizza CEO, who has faced a string of different allegations of sexual harassment, also said that he had no immediate plans to cancel his campaign events; he still intends to deliver a major foreign policy speech tonight in Michigan.

But Cain acknowledged the emotional toll that the claims against him had taken on his family. He said yesterday on CNN that he would stay in the campaign as long as his wife continued to believe he should stay in the race.

In the same interview, though, Cain opened the door to a possible exit from the race.

"It's just the way it is, but I'm not going to allow this sort of thing to cause me to drop out simply because it's tough on me. I don't want it to be tough on my family. And there comes a point that if it's tough on my family, I have to consider that at that particular point in time," he said.

Asked whether he would drop out if the race became too tough, Cain said: "I'll make that decision depending upon the circumstances and how it is impacting my wife and my family. That's my number one concern by all of these accusations."

SLIDESHOW: Herman Cain

***UPDATE*** Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon tells NBC News: "It's a reassessment of where we stand and the road ahead, similar to other times in the campaign's history. We're looking forward to getting back on message tonight with the Foreign Policy and National Security speech at Hillsdale College in Michigan."

Reporter: Mr. Cain, exactly how many women did you have sex with. Was it 8 or 10?

Cain: How many times do I have to answer that question? It was 9, 9, 9!

Although I am somewhat disenchanted with Pres. Obama right now, there is no way in hell I would vote for anyone else. I just LOVE how the conservatives/Repubs./T-partiers talk about "family values" and slam any democrat for straying or committing what they believe to be sexual perversion...then, THEY have on their side Nute (rhymes with mute) Gingrich now on his third wife after having screwed around on the first two and "raising" Cain who can't keep all of his past affairs in line. JUST LOVE IT!

I ESPECIALLY love that his attorney, publicist, or whoever, says it's no one else's business what consenting adults do in privacy. 'SCUSE ME, HERMAN...you are running for the highest office in the land. EVERY DAMNED THING YOU'VE EVER DONE IS OUR BUSINESS BECAUSE (god forbid) IF YOU GET ELECTED WE ARE PAYING YOUR SALARY. YOU BETTER FIGURE IT OUT...FROM HERE ON OUT EVERYTHING YOU DO IS OUR BUSINESS.

                  No, you are wrong.

We have already watched the economy burn under a Republican administration. What we hope for now is almost anything else. Obama hasn't done too bad. Rather than watch the economy tank under Republicans we have watched it get gradually (maybe too gradually, whose fault is that?) better. All he needs is a little more time. All Bush needed was a little better economy so no one could see the damage he did before it was too late. Bush timed it slightly wrong and got thrown out before he totally crashed the economy.

Republicans - reaping what they sowed in 2012!

LOL you really think it has gotten better? My case is made. True unemployment is almost 20% . While obama was handed a bad hand he has only made it worse with his policies and poor leadership. The part I blame republicans for is when Bush went to the congress back in 2002 I believe and told them something needed to be done about fraddy and sallie . he saw this coming yet got no help from congress. Then it was Clintons policy of every person should own a house that helped create the housing bubble. Also dont forget the internet bubble that burst as Clinton was leaving. This was not all Bush though he spent entirely to much money also. This is part of his very low approval numbers. Obama has failed at leading also. look what Clinton and a republican congress achieved together. Obama however chooses to make everything a partisan fight. Lets take the jobs bill instead of going behind closed doors and working out a deal so nobody would lose face he chose to go before a joint session of congress and pick a fight. He continually uses class warfare. He said hope and change yet all he does is cause partisan fights. He chose to shove health care down our throats which most people did not want. They wanted health care reform to help bring the cost down not expand it and drive every bodies cost up. How many businesses now will not hire because of health care cost? If he was a true leader he would have met and compromised and not told the other party to just get in the back seat. he says one day we need to calm down the rhetoric and the next is accusing the other side of wanting dirty air and dirty water along with other inflammatory accusations. People can say what they want about president clinton but when he saw the other side had a good idea that man grabbed it and made it his own. Obama is so partisan he would rather just sit and lie about the other side.

First of all, you don't even know how to spell them and your time frame is all messed up. Google American Dream and see what Bush was up to in 2002!

Secondly, I give you Oxely, you know Oxley, the co-sponsor of Sarbanes-Oxley act and hardly a flaming liberal (Google it, its there):

The critics have forgotten that the House passed a GSE reform bill in 2005 that could well have prevented the current crisis, says Mr Oxley, now vice-chairman of Nasdaq.

He fumes about the criticism of his House colleagues. "All the handwringing and bedwetting is going on without remembering how the House stepped up on this," he says. "What did we get from the White House? We got a one-finger salute."

I'd bet he's "reassessing" his campaign. He's become a true embarassment.

The entire GOP field is in shambles,....hypocrisy, incompetence, flip-flopping, all style, no substance,...and a $500K bill at Tiffani's. We'll ALLLL remember who these guys are at election time - believe you me.

Were reimbursement statements, signed by him as an officer with a fiduciary duty to the organization, false statements?

If so: does the Board has a fiduciary duty to seek to recoup: (the payments with interest; (2) any salary, pension, retirement, insurance or other benefits he may have obtained under the representation and his fiduciary duty that at all times he was in compliance with all applicable law?

If it occurred, would the Board be wise to have an independent inquiry such as the Freeh-type inquiry--independent, unquestionable integrity, outstanding experience and adequate resources and time--by forensic accountants?

Does the Board have an obligation to report any alleged embezzlement, theft, misappropriation it may discover to the legal authorities? (Would the Board separately be wise to do so, to protect the organization and themselves individually themselves from having, or having an arguable defense against, alleged claimed knowledge, complicity, recklessness or negligence?

Does Herm lose any indemnification and insurance protection from NRA under these circumstances? Who would pay his defense costs, now or later, if he is sued by NRA under their fiduciary duty?

Will the result of the reimbursement and payment review be made public to try to recoup a portion of the already-tarnished reputation of the NRA and perhaps members also?

POTENTIAL TAX AND OTHER POTENTIAL LIABILITY

If he received or directed payment of any "13 year" or other money or consideration as so-called "reimbursement" of "for the benefit of the NRA, and it was not in the service of non-NRA business, is it income to him?

If so, did he report it as taxable income for 13 years (along with any other non-NRA purpose reimbursement, payment or consideration), and is that a pattern of tax fraud?

Ginger White, and a prosecutor, would not be anonymous.

Has a grand jury already been empaneled and granted Ginger White use (complete) immunity?

The comment from Mr. Cain earlier this evening was "We're doing fine." Mr. Cain has 3 campaigns--political; perhaps with the NRA; and perhaps with with the IRS/courts. We should all take him at his word, especially women. But "fine", although accurate, may be "premature".

If he thinks it might get too hard on his family, and he would quit because of that, then he's not fit to be president. The road doesn't get easier once elected to office, and we certainly can't have a president who is willing to quit if it stresses his family out too much. Don't get me wrong, I think it's actually very good that he cares about the stress on his family - but the fact that stress could even become a problem clearly demonstrates that he is the wrong man for the job. (As if the alleged affairs weren't enough!)

He has the ability to bloviate in eloquent, nice sounding phrases. These resonate with people who listen to words, not meanings. And they also resonate with people who are driven by hatred, as the right absolutely hates Obama.

These 'conservatives' are willing to accept anything Newt says, let him re-write the facts of his disgusting behaviors, both personal and political, overlook the fact that he worked around lobbying laws, or in contravention of them, 'lobbied' our country into economic ruin lobbying Congress for Fannie and Freddie and his Wall Street backers, disparaging the rules of law for his own gains.

This s okay with them as long as he hates Obama.

When hate fuels the debate, which it does for the messianic minds of the right wing, they will accept as truth anything that feeds their animus. Why do people ask how fascism in Germany cames to be. You are watching it live, now. Demonize and dehumanize the oppositon is part one. Focus the hate is part two. Hate is very bad in politics.

How else could the 'conservative' ever have even considered someone like Cain for even a moment? He offered nothjing, absolutely nothing, except 'hate.'
