Cain tells staff he's reassessing campaign

Will the newest recent allegations Herman Cain seal his fate?

Herman Cain told senior campaign staff members Tuesday that he's "reassessing" his campaign in the wake of a fresh allegation that he engaged in a 13-year-long extramarital affair.

Steve Grubbs, the candidate's Iowa campaign chairman, confirms to NBC News that Cain said he's taking a step back, much as he did after his finish in the Ames Straw Poll in August, to evaluate the direction of his campaign. The call included Cain's 50 state directors, and the reassessment will occur over the next two days.

This reassessment coincides with a new allegation from Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who says that she and Cain engaged in an affair for well over a decade, one that ended only recently. Cain has denied the affair.

Cain reiterated his claim, made yesterday in reaction to the new allegation, that White was simply a friend who he had sought to help financially, and that nothing inappropriate had happened between the two of them.

The former Godfather's Pizza CEO, who has faced a string of different allegations of sexual harassment, also said that he had no immediate plans to cancel his campaign events; he still intends to deliver a major foreign policy speech tonight in Michigan.

But Cain acknowledged the emotional toll that the claims against him had taken on his family. He said yesterday on CNN that he would stay in the campaign as long as his wife continued to believe he should stay in the race.

In the same interview, though, Cain opened the door to a possible exit from the race.

"It's just the way it is, but I'm not going to allow this sort of thing to cause me to drop out simply because it's tough on me. I don't want it to be tough on my family. And there comes a point that if it's tough on my family, I have to consider that at that particular point in time," he said.

Asked whether he would drop out if the race became too tough, Cain said: "I'll make that decision depending upon the circumstances and how it is impacting my wife and my family. That's my number one concern by all of these accusations."

SLIDESHOW: Herman Cain

***UPDATE*** Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon tells NBC News: "It's a reassessment of where we stand and the road ahead, similar to other times in the campaign's history. We're looking forward to getting back on message tonight with the Foreign Policy and National Security speech at Hillsdale College in Michigan."

Ooops, guess it's getting a LOT harder for him to deny/dismiss since this (allegedly) lasted for 13 YEARS. Bye-bye Mr. Cain.

Really? Only a Donk like Cain would figure this wouldn't eventually come out. Too bad its so early, I wish it would have been in the general election if he got the nomination. Say hello to Mrs. "that ain't even like him" Cain.

Cain was the GOP token Negro that the Teabaggers put up to demonstrate that they aren't racists which of course they are.

Imagine their shock when he pulled out ahead and their darling Rick (perfect hair) Perry proved himself to be a stumbling bumbling bumpkin embarrassment and fell like a brick in the polls.

I don't understand how such an ostensibly bright guy could think this all wouldn't come out.

I feel most badly for his family.

Some of these candidates really should realize that if there are skeletons in the closet they will come clattering out when running for POTUS. I will always remember what a Mafia boss once said "three can keep a secret if two of them are dead".

Well, Bill & Monica brought a lot class to the White House. But then, he is a Democrat and somehow they are allowed to have more fun than Republicans. Well, all except Carter...he admitted that he 'lusted in his mind', and the press hung him out to dry for that one.

I wish we would stop judging our leaders by their sexual lives. Those matters are private. Now it seems we have reached the point where the only safe sex in politics is gay sex.

This is not a case of judging our leaders by their sexual lives. This is a case of judging our leaders by their honesty or lack of honesty. Cain's problem, he lies after the facts are brought out. If his reply was, "Yeah I did her, and?" That would take the gas right out of the whole situation. Even with the others who claim he sexually harassed them. If Cain just said, "Yes I thought she was very attractive and I let her know I was interested in her that way. She declined, I accepted that decline and went on about my business." If he were to say that, the entire thing would have no basis for discussion. He continues to lie over and over. What kind of man is this? Do we want him representing him when he goes to other countries? Who would he hit on while traveling in Air Force One?

Not only is is that he a complete liar. He's running under the banner of the party of family values. You do remember them? Those rabid, mouth foaming zealots that are rabidly trying to set up their monitors in YOUR bedroom while they slink around in the back alley's with thir mistresses. prostitutes, male escorts etc.

Yeah. But the Democrats don't go around the country spewing their "holier than thou" attitude. Nor do they make religion a mainstay of their qualification to hold public office. Once one does that, then one can rightly be scewered by the press for behaving badly.

I think if these candidate hopefuls would just tell the truth in the beginnning, they would take all the wind out of the sails of these women seeking their 15- minutes of fame. Just come right out and say, "I'm no angel. I had an affair or 2 or 3. I've put all that behind me and now, I'm ready to do business. After all, none of us are perfect, but Americans are pretty forgiving so, why not just come clean-- no pun intended, in the first place.

He'll drive his caboose back to Georgia. He's sold a trainload of books. His rates for speaking will increase by a factor of 10. He'll write yet another tome about how the radical left-wing media derailed his "promising" race for the White House. His wealth will likely increase exponentially.

It's always been my opinion that the guy never was in it to win, he was only in it to make a ton of money.

The funny thing is that the GOP knew all along about Cain's habits and past. That was why he was encouraged to run. The GOP machine knew Cain's past would not allow him to actually be elected. Cain was only encouraged by the GOP so that they could say, "Yeah we had a black guy, we accepted him and that proves we are not prejudice. He didn't work out."

And he likely lost his family and marraige. How much is that worth? But, his wife will probably get most of his financial gains in the divorce proceedings. Hmmm. He may have actually lost a lot of $$?

On the sex stuff... Some of our brightest minds in the history of mankind are what mainstream society today in America would call "deviant" or "perverted". The sex stuff isn't what disqualifies Cain, it is the fact that this man is dumb as a box of rocks and doesn't have an opinion on Libya or any foreign affair unless it is to oppose Obama.

We should be against stupid people getting into office, not horny people. Sex is a natural thing, Cain just shouldn't be married. He should play around and enjoy the fact that he isn't into commitment. But again... Sex doesn't disqualify him, its the fact that he's an idiot who doesn't have the gravitas to honor the office of the Presidency.

Now, I hope his wife divorces him pronto if he's been leading her on. If she's in on the fun, and they have threesomes, so be it... that is their business. I wished the public would focus on what is important.

The GOP never had a valid true interest in CAIN. They tolerated him only to show that they were not prejudice. Does that make them not prejudice? No. Entertaining the idea of a black GOP candidate was only a ruse. The GOP feel that Obama was elected because people wanted to prove they were not prejudice. They are trying to get some of those votes this time around. Trying to send a message that they think black is perfectly ok, it is just Obama himself that they want out.

The GOP doesn't have much respect for blacks or women. They wanted to spike the punchbowl with Palin and their lack of good choice backfired on them. They figured any woman would do. So they picked a cute one instead of a smart one. They don't want a woman who wants to do the job. That would get in their way.

The GOP don't impress me anymore. They are far too phony for my taste.

If I were "helping" a woman out financially, I'd call that "keeping her."

Here services might have been paid for, but obvioiulsy her silence wasn't part of the deal.

You know, even though I'm a independent am voting Democrats across the board, the person I respect the most in the Republican field is Ron Paul, because he is not fake, he sticks to his ideas and does not sway just to please the crowd. I have to say that I do agree with some of his points, but overall he would not be the person I would vote for President. This just shows you how bad the field is for the republicans. It would be a blessing for the white house if the Newt got nominated. The president would win in a landslide.

            1) The most telling part for me in the recent interview was when asked if the woman was lying he would not say "Yes". If you didn't have sex with the woman then its a pretty answer to say "Of course she is lying".

            2) But, I suppose, on the positive side for Cain, at least now there is a white woman who actually had sex with him after being shot down by so many other white women...
