Michele Bachmann signs a copy of her book, "Core of Conviction," at Barnes & Noble in Sioux City, Iowa.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Michele Bachmann’s campaign kept up its criticisms of Newt Gingrich Sunday, hours after the former Speaker of the House won the support of the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper, a key endorsement in the country’s first in the nation primary state.
Speaking to reporters Sunday afternoon, Bachmann brushed aside questions about the development.
“There’s a lot of different endorsements that come from a lot of papers, and the main endorsement that I’m looking forward to is the one here in Iowa on January 3rd in the caucuses,” Bachmann said.
The remarks came during a visit to a Barnes & Noble store in Sioux City, where Bachmann signed copies of her new book, “Core of Conviction,” for about 75 supporters.
But Bachmann’s campaign staff took a harder line, telling NBC News that a sentence in the newspaper’s endorsement – “Newt Gingrich is by no means the perfect candidate” – points to both a problem with Gingrich, and the logic for supporting him.
"We shouldn’t settle. More than any time, this is an election that we need to hold out for the ideal, like Michele,” campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart said.
A back and forth between the Bachmann and Gingrich teams has been going on since Tuesday’s CNN debate in Washington, where Gingrich seemed to call for a path to citizenship for longtime illegal residents of the United States.
“Here he is outlining an amnesty plan,” Stewart said Sunday of Gingrich.
GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich snagged an impressive endorsement from the N.H. Union Leader, but does the paper's support guarantee anything? NBC's Kristen Welker reports.
“Now that people are holding his feet to the fire, he’s calling them liars and saying they don’t understand the issue.”
Gingrich rejects the charge that he would offer “amnesty,” and insisted this weekend during his own book tour in Florida that illegal aliens should leave the country and apply for citizenship.
The spokesman for Gingrich’s campaign told NBC News Saturday that Bachmann “can’t get her facts straight” or is “intentionally lying” about Gingrich’s position.
A three-day book tour for “Core of Conviction” wrapped Sunday at a Holiday Inn here in Council Bluffs, where a crowd of about 60 people visited to have their copies of the book signed.
Bachmann told reporters that the book “is coming out at exactly the right time to reach the people of Iowa.”
The Iowa caucus, held January 3rd, is a little more than five weeks away. The New Hampshire primary will be held seven days later, on January 10th.
Bachmann chatted at length with supporters at the event, and insisted an older woman using a walker cut to the front of the line.
“You’re such a dear,” Bachmann said to the woman. “Thank you so much for coming by.”

loud and clear. these things are not running to be elected. they are in just for the ride on "pac" money to push their own products. on the "free market". convicts to the core.
+1 on riding the gravy train. I feel a little bit sorry for the folks that have donated their $ to the likes of Michele, Newt and the Hermanator. Because make no mistake, they are in the race to add to their personal check book balance off of their political activity.
At least Michele, Newt and the Hermanator are holding to their personal truth.
Michele Bachmen who? Do people still listen to anything she has to say? She is wasting campaigner funds on a no win situation. She needs to go away just like Sarah Palin.
More drama on the Magical Mystery Republican Book Tour . . . Do they each have their own bus or do they share one ? Where's Herman he has a book . . .
There's really nothing more to be said about Michelle Bachmann so I won't say anything more.
Do you think that the real world, and the world that boings around in Bachmann's head have any relation to each other?
Here's how the headline should have read: "Voters brush aside Michelle Bachmann"
... and Purnell Meagre: you're right, we've already said too much.
Yeah They should do their bus tours like Obama, fly to each destination then hop on the bus at the city limits. THEY ARE ALL hypocrites!!! Someday people on both sides will wake up! These people are ALL professional politicians, it's a way to for them to make BIG money on the backs of us, You have to have a villian and a hero. Dems and repubs don't care who you pick because you need both to create friction so people like us will throw our hard earned money to them. If any of you are dumb enough to think your side is the good and honorable side send your money my way. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!
Bachmann, is the darling of the far out religious right; she really believes what she is saying; that is the scary part, the ultra right wing and religious fringe is saying anyone but Mitt Romney, he is a middle of the road Republican, the far out group only want a born again, ultra Conservative, anti social security, anti medicare, anti government regulation person riding a white horse and carrying a flaming cross to lead them!
Bachmann, Gingrich, Santorum, etc......
God, if I was a Republican I'd be marching in the streets demanding a new set of candidates.
It's like having to pick what instrument you want a civil war surgeon to use to cut your arm off - a rusty hacksaw or a rusty machete.
"We shouldn’t settle. More than any time, this is an election that we need to hold out for the ideal, like Michele,” campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart said.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saying Michell Bachman is "ideal" is the same as saying that Daffy Duck would be "ideal."
Doobie: I wish ole Daffy Duck were running. He'd be a shoo-in to win the nomination.
And Cain just gets worse as a joke. On State of the Union, asked multiple questions by Candy Crowley, he danced completely around all of them, didn't answer a one. He's completely delusional if he thinks he can win; but I hope he does.
Republicans are in for a huge let down,,next time maybe they will offer a candidate that is "real" not just book sellers and hypocrites.
Fools and their money are soon parted. Need no further proof.
Ron Paul 2012
Of course she brushed it aside...She doesn't read newspapers much anyways like Palin....And then it was said that her book release was right on time for the caucuses...That's because it takes republicans 5-6 weeks to read a book of meaningless drivel set at a third grade reading level....Haaaaa
Never a bucket of water around when you need one.
I sense some desperation in the air.
Help is on the way? I don't think that we've seen the last of Palin. It's odd that she's missing an opportunity to make some money.
Bloomberg could easily step in and snatch the nomination.
Bloomberg/Huntsman 2012!
Heck, ANYBODY could step in and be the candidate du jour for about one week, which is the history for this year's Republican presidential nominee wanna-be's. The problem is, they always manage to mess themselves up and show their true colors.
The poor Republicans voters are DESPARATE for a viable candidate, but the problem is that even semi-viable candidates see the handwriting on the wall and know that they don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning so have gotten realistic enough to just sit this election cycle out, which leaves only the crazies left to run.
After WW II,
all of East Europe was cleansed of over 12 million Germans. The expulsion
excluded youngsters useful to Russia for augmenting its workforce for 20 years.
So ethnic cleansing can be done in any country if not publicized too much and
if no one cares. Supposedly, the world today cares? Let us hope so....
Republicans support ethnic cleansing? I'm not surprised.
Yeah, the Germans sure were the victims of ethnic cleansing in WWII. My Dad did what he could to stop it but the organization he was involved in (US ARMY) had to kill a bunch of Germans first.
"...if not publicized too much.."
The Republicans aren't whispering about getting rid of millions of illegals -- it's a main selling point of their party!
WOW!! I realize that you folks have no substantive accomplishments by this administration to rally around, but these bits of idiocy would shock even your Uncle Saul!
"No substantive accomplishments??" Let's try these on for size, 1) getting Bin Laden after 7 years of failure by the previous administration, 2) ending that mistake of a war called Iraq, 3) saving the American motor industry, 4) getting affordable health care for Americans, 5) winning the Nobel Peace prize, 6) ushering in and influencing the downfall of dictators in the Middle East/Libya.
Not bad for just three years........
These may be the dumbest comments I've ever heard. Please tell me you aren't libs, I don't morons like this representing me . Go to the other side pleeeeeease.
Hillary 2012
you can't handle the TRUTH time4truth.. yes those comments from Werner, doobieidiot, djackwagon and takeanother drink are all mindless liberals.. only one missing is feisty idiot in IL to add her stupid remarks.
I don't morons like this representing me ? You Quack me up you fake Democrat...You are a GOP shill.....
Signing 75 and 60 books at each location.... does not sound like a run away campaign to me.
Why don't they use robo-signers? That seems to work well ;-)
She makes, what $6 per book sold? 135 books nets her $810. Not a bad couple of hours pay. The campaign pays her hair stylist, coffee fetchers etc. so it is extra money for Michelle.
Everyone seems to have a book to sell.
Why do I doubt any one of them wrote even a word of the books?
Gotta be a lot of two holer outhouses in Iowa that need some reading material for both before and behind.
OK, I'm a little confused, is she running for President, or is she promoting her book? Seems to me that if I were a contributor, I'd be a little pissed at her abuse of my contributions...
The Republican Presidential field consists of idiots, cynics, and wackos.... pretty much mirroring their 'base'..... American politics haven't sunk this low since the red-baiting days.
As a Democrat and an American statements such as these offend me. Not all Republicans are idiots and most definitely not all Democrats are intelligent. There are at least 1 or 2 Republican candidates I may consider since Obama has been so week as a leader and is not a statesman. Following a party blindly is just foolish.
The only two Republican candidates that might stand a chance against Obama are John Huntsman and Buddy Roemer and you're not going to see either of them on the ballot . . . if your were truly a Democrat as you say or a non affiliated voter you would know that . . .
I grant you the obvious fact that"not all democrates are intelligent, and not all republicans are idiots". I can see myself voting for John Honsman under the right circumstances-certainly, not against Obama because I think he is better than any of the republican feild. Ron Paul is a guy I admirer also, even when I disagree with some of his positions, his conviction is undinable.
I also will disagree with you that Obama have been weak as a leader. I think his problem is that he has tried too hard to work with a republican party that is absolutely not interested in working with him. In the process, librals in the democratic party sees is effort to compromise as weak. Contrary to what the right may want you to belive, fact is that Obama have governed from center. One thing that he has not done is follow is party blindly-Afganistan, healthcare reform, patriot act, and a whole lot of others. He have been pragmatic and time and time again reach out to the republican party who see their path to power as Obama's failure. They have shown repeatedly their lack of desire to work with him. I hope he is starting to understand that it takes two to tangle. All the republicans are interested in is power, even if it means burning the country down.
What we need to do is vote out the republican congress and vote in progressive thinkers who do not see compromise as a dirty word. Right now, we need a functioning congress, not a republican party that have choosen to be a cog in the wheel of progress.
Not all Republicans are idiots...
Then why aren't any of them candidates?
Well said Ben. The powers that be in the repub camp do not care what is running for president in their party. They want to have complete control of congress - that is where the power is. That also means a filibuster-proof congress - not what President Obama had. The repubs will be out in droves to take over congress. I hope the dems get off their whining about President Obama being weak (which he isn't) and hit the voting booths to give him a filibuster-proof congress so he can take back our country for us and not just the uber-wealthy and corporations. I am very frightened of the outcome if the repubs get control.
@EEngineer: you have asked the question that will baffle philosophers and historians for many years to come regarding this election. I know and work with many intelligent Republicans who are rational, great people. It baffles why you so seldom hear their voices in this campaign.
@node4
Because the people you speak of are probably reasonable, ergo, unelectable to the base this cycle.
Perhaps the answer is simple. Why would an intelligent Republican want to be President when Congress is occupied by the dullards in his own party? He also would fail to achieve what is needed through their intransigence.
Crazy Steve, in 4 years it will be worse if Obama wins in 2012. The democrats will have Biden leading the pack of idiots for 2016.
Having read your post 7.6 . . . is it your contention that using your true name . . . (which Jake Reyna may or may not be . . . and how will any of the rest of us know if it is or not?) . . . makes this nonsense of yours at 5.9, somehow relevant . . ?
By that logic . . . if I were to use my surname name instead of just my first . . . that would provide greater basis in fact for a claim that the earth is flat . . . somehow . . . I don't think so . . .
Under normal circumstances, I would say "Don't quit your day job."
But seriously, quit your day job.
haha ... another great comment by one of her constituents
Woops before some moron points it out I meant "weak"
No one cares what you say. You are a Republican. Obama is doing very well, given the state of affairs you guys handed over to him in January 2009. How does anyone expect him to turn around all the nonsense you guys did, when all your people keep on doing is sabotage his every effort?
Woops, looks like you're the moron.
You attempt to sound reasonable in your first post, then turn around and call people "morons." And this to people who haven't even said anything yet. Projecting onto others. You now have no credibility at all.
Perhaps the answer is simple. Why would an intelligent Republican want to be President when Congress is occupied by the dullards in his own party? He also would fail to achieve what is needed through their intransigence.
whoops ... wrong thread
Circular firing squad? A bunch of trolls using fake names to throw trash at each other.
If you want to be relevant, sign your posts. Take some responsibility, show some accountability.
Poultry is just another word for chicken.
Wow, 75 people???? I bet if she works a little harder she might get that many to come to her campaign rallies (If she pays them)
This woman is going for the $.... there is no way she's being the candidate and she knows it. Her envy of those that can make it to the top is obvious so she's looking for the PAC money she will get to keep once she's done. She'll have 30 million to comfort her while we become homeless.
More and more the people of the GOP and the TP show themselves to be completely out of touch with the rest of the real people out here, I don't know about you but I've been unemployed for a long time and I don't see any improvement any time soon and I look every day, I'd take even a minimum wage job. If my husband's social security should fail, we would be homeless. We've lost our savings and live day to day, we don't go out so we won't spend any money. We barely make it to the end of the month and those morons want us to tighten our belts? I've gained so much weight due to having to eat so many carbohydrates since protein is now a luxury! We can't afford to pay my husband's medicare premium and he's 71! We haven't seen a doctor or dentist since this situation began and heaven help us if something should break or be lost.
We are the new poor plus my husband is going blind and 71 and I'm 58 and no one wants to hire me even though I am healthy, well educated and experienced. We fight depression every day to realize what our lives have become and to think that our kids won't be able to see their dreams realized because they're drowning in student loan debt is heartbreaking.... I say make the idiots in Washington tighten their belts and do without, pay them minimum wage and take away their benefits, that's what they deserve!!!!!!!!!!! Then fire them and only give them 6 weeks unemployment and let's see how they do without..........
And the repubs are coming after THAT too B. Garcia. You have played by the rules and deserve better B.Garcia.
I wish you well.
ABR in 2012.
Anybody But Republicans.
BGarcia
Perhaps you might want to take a different view. The real danger to you and any of us that rely on the Social Security we were forced to pay all our working lives, is the party that would, instead of working to solve the undeniable problems with the programs, decied to harm them to buy votes from those unable to see ahead!
Left untouched, Medi-care will fail within this decade! Even before the Progressives, in an attempt to buy votes, reduced the payroll deduction for Social Security by 2.6%, the plan would have been depleated within a couple of decades. Having reduced the revenue paid in it will now, left unaddressed, be sooner! Look real hard at any politician crying "Look what I'm doing for you"!
Ted,
I think you would agree that if the programs were left alone, and not ransacked everytime they look to be gaining momentum, they would last quite a bit longer.
Both parties, but the Republicans more often than not, dip into Social Security, Medicare and the Postal Service when they need money for their Pork-Barrel Programs.
Both, Social Security and Medicare were in the Black in the early '80s, but when Reagan entered the Whitehouse, the Congress pulled anything that wasn't nailed down and spread it out to programs that didn't have realistic purpose. Bush did the same thing in '90.
The Republican controlled Congress did the same thing during the Clinton Administration, then hiked the stamp prices, again.
I only hope Michelle does not go back to her day job.....you know the one where she was elected to serve in the House of Reps.....she's doing a lot less damage where she is.
Try as I might, I can't escape the feeling that the current GOP/T exercise is an updating of a less-than-stellar Monty Python sketch. I also can't escape the feeling that even flawed originals are superior to the re-makes.
Her next book: "Whore of Convictions".
This is great. The wannabees are sniping at the neverwases. Get out the popcorn.
If the illegal immigrants are too lazy to apply for a green card or take citizenship classes after 5 plus yrs in USA they should be deported, yes, along with their children. That way the family stays intact.
wow, our country is going through the worst of times and congress spends all of thier time on campaigning. If you they actually did what they are paid to do they wouldn't need to spend 24 hours a day campaigning...
It's a great book... No really it is!
“Core of Conviction” or lack there of. Now that's more like it.
Will someone actually read it? It will be in the Dollar Tree's Book Bin by February.
@devie: it would be more popular if she finished coloring all the pages and learned how to stay inside the lines better.
@node4: she heard coloring inside the lines causes mental retardation, and her right not to finish is protected by the Constitution (which she has totally read).
Yeah, right. If she ever becomes President, I shudder to think of the consequences, for the U.S. and for the world.
Yeah, I'm still going with "both A and B."
That statement is hilarious coming from the Gingrich camp. The man who was thrown at as speaker for being a criminal.
Over looking, as you do moderate(?), that he is also responsible for the only balanced Federal Budgets you've ever seen!
Actually, ModerateIndy, I believe that he was censured, by a Republican-dominated House, for specific ethic violations. He ultimately chose to resign the speaker of the house position and then to leave congress all together.
Not that I dispute your general assessment of the man, but just be clear on the facts.
tedcrawford - he was a part of the budgetary and revenue decisions which produced a balanced budget, but it was Clinton whom framed the debate on these decisions, not Gingrich. Old Newt was initially busy promoting tax cuts without attendant spending reductions. I remember, even if you do not.
Wow, 75 customers at B & N is a busy day!!
Then what, voted to cut off her S.S. and Medicare while inflating the budget for tanks and submarines which we will never need??
Ok, so she's not totally dense; she understands that the Union Leader's endorsement means absolutely nothing.
She has new highlights in her hair and is selling books. Enough said.
The endorsement of Newt by Union Leader is about as goofy as an endorsement of Bachmann. But is a sign of the times when all you got is the best of the worst to choice from.
Interestingly, the main street media continues to have us believe the Republican primary canidates are legitimate contenders for the presidency. One weak candidate rises to the top and the falls, and then another weak presidential candidate emerges for a a few week or so, then stumbles into oblivion on the poll ratings.
I am reminded of Captain Renault in Casablanca when he says, " Round up the usual suspects."
This has really turned out to be a handful of Republican presidential contenders who are ill-equipped to lead America having no long term plan or creative ideas that resonate with voters.
As much as I would like to see a challenge from an actual liberal candidate on the Left to run against a moderate Obama, it appears Obama will win a second term easily based on the faux Republican contenders.
The political system needs a major reshuffling, corporate money out of politics, corporate personhood obliterated, public financing of elections, and a cleansing of millionaires in Congress who don't represent their constituents anymore. America has turned into a plutocracy and ideological voters on the right, blue dog democrats on the right of the middle, and Independents who aren't paying attention continue to feed the oligarchic machine.
This weekend in Davenport Iowa ,Michele Bachman drew the huge crowd of --10 people at her book signing [QC Times source]. It amazes me that this woman thinks she has a chance. She should have taken the hint from her twin sister- Sarah Palin ,to distance herself from the gaggle of idiots and RUN away-FAST. Michele Bachman hasn't a snowballs chance in hell of going anywhere and she'd better concentrate on holding the seat in congress she now has. She'll probably lose that too [ we democrats all hope].
