Arizona's controversial Sheriff Arpaio set to endorse Rick Perry

NBC News has confirmed with a source familiar with the matter that Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, will endorse Rick Perry this week.

Arpaio will campaign with Perry in New Hampshire this week, the source said.

The Arizona sheriff is known as a vehement backer of tough immigration laws and was a vocal supporter of his own state's controversial enforcement laws.

Perry critics have described him as soft on immigration since the Florida debate, when he called opponents "heartless" for deriding his policy of in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants in Texas.

Well, I don't normally comment on the sexual orientation or proclivities of anyone, but this story offers too many angles to pass up.

Everyone has heard the rumors about Gov. Perry being gay, just as we have heard about Rep. Bachmann's happy camper husband. Between these two, and under the impression that his endorsement has value, Sheriff Arpaio has to make the choice. He is, after all, the big, tough lawman with the fixation on young, brown men whom he dresses in pink underwear.

Joe Arpaio just could be Maricopa County's J.Edgar Hoover...

The right wing lunatic fringe is eating its own young. There is no hope for the GOP in 2012 because we are witnessing its self-destruction due to its own bad decisions and poor leadership.

Did you see the videoclip of Perry in New Hampshire? He scored a double faux paux - got the voting age wrong (18, not 21) and the election date (Nov. 6, not 12).... Why can't the GOP candidates get their facts sraight?

Oh, and regarding the agency Perry wanted to disband, but couldn't remember - the Dept. of Energy.... Well, if he had bothered to research it a little, he'd see that the Energy Department includes nuclear weapons - both research as well as cleanup of legacy waste, which accounts for 64% of the department's budget. Does he really want us to scrap nukes? I don't think his fellow right-wingers would agree to that...
