Arizona's controversial Sheriff Arpaio set to endorse Rick Perry

NBC News has confirmed with a source familiar with the matter that Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, will endorse Rick Perry this week.

Arpaio will campaign with Perry in New Hampshire this week, the source said.

The Arizona sheriff is known as a vehement backer of tough immigration laws and was a vocal supporter of his own state's controversial enforcement laws.

Perry critics have described him as soft on immigration since the Florida debate, when he called opponents "heartless" for deriding his policy of in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants in Texas.

Perry should focus on the vast corruption and serious problems in his home state of Texas instead of this exercise in futility.

Consider also what just happened in a federal court in Perry's home state. In this case, As described at http://LawInjustice.com , a Dallas business owner was involved in a civil dispute and paid millions of dollars to lawyers, and when he objected to additional fees after settling the case, they had a "friendly" judge, appointed by President Clinton, seize all of his possessions, without any notice or hearing, and essentially ordered him under “house arrest” as an involuntary servant to the lawyers and denied a jury trial. The business owner has been under this "servant" order for 10 months and is prohibited from owning any possessions, prohibited from working, etc..

Other than S. Palin, Rick Perry is the only guy who could make GW Bush look smart.

Rick is done.

Far too early to lose him just yet. At least for the entertainment value not that he would ever come up with an original idea.

It looks like them there Hispanics ain't gonna vote GOP anytime soon. No sir. And no m'am.

You see, Senor Rick, they know you're a GOP big shot, and get Big Oil money, and do what you're told. And Senor Rick: Hispanics actually speak and understand English, and actually do have feelings, and actually do mind being insulted, and will vote no matter what sleazy ways your GOP tries to disenfranchise them. What the GOP is doing is no secret; you and your ilk have provoked Hispanics and Latinos to organize and be determined all the more to make sure you understand English in November. You are handing a close election to Obama, Senor, please give my best to the Sheriff--you and he, and the GOP, are accomplishing what no Democrat could do alone.

Forgetting the Indians knew the Spanish first and the language.

Lone Ranger still called his Indian "friend" Tonto

        Which means stupid in Spanish

Sheriff Joe enforces immigration law! Well, yee-haw. Of course, a sheriff shouldn't be enforcing immigration law as it's a federal matter. And Maricopa county isn't a border county, either. Heavily Hispanic, yes, as is all of Arizona because it's Arizona! AZ is over 40% Hispanic. I was the minority in my high school, not the Joses or Gaudalupes, me. This man is more bent than Lombard St. When he first ran for the office, he said he would only serve one term. One. I believe he's gearing up for a sixth run at office. And if you speak out against his corrupt ways, better have a good lawyer as he will create trumped up charges against you.

        --

In February 2010 Judge John Leonardo of Pima County Superior Court found that Arpaio "misused the power of his office to target members of the (Board of Supervisors) for criminal investigation."[58]

In 2008 a federal grand jury began an inquiry of Arpaio for abuse of power, in connection with an FBI investigation.[59][60] Arpaio is being investigated for politically motivated and "bogus" prosecutions, which a former US Attorney called "utterly unacceptable".[59][60] Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon has called Arpaio's "long list" of questionable prosecutions "a reign of terror".[60]

The targets of Arpaio's alleged abuse of power have included or currently include: Phil Gordon, Phoenix Mayor;[59] Dan Saban, Arpaio's 2004 and 2008 opponent for the office of Sheriff of Maricopa County;[59] Terry Goddard, Arizona Attorney General;[59] David Smith, Maricopa County Manager;[59] The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors;[59] Barbara Mundell, Maricopa Superior Court Presiding Judge;[59] Anna Baca, former Maricopa Superior Court Presiding Judge;[61] Gary Donahoe, Maricopa Superior Court Criminal Presiding Judge[59] Daniel Pochoda, ACLU attorney;[59] Sandra Dowling, former Maricopa County School Superintendent;[60] Mike Lacy, Editor, Phoenix New Times.[60]

SHERIFF Joe is probably the most respected sheriff in the country , and probably should be head of our border security ,and we have idiots , down grading him , I SAID IDIOTS ,

The accusations against him are false any tenth grader who can add 2 plus 2 ,( few can in this education system ) can see right through all the holes , MAN there are more holes in this than there is solid material ,

        BUT

It is just like the socialist communist democratic media propaganda machine to put out this false crap , AND there are IDIOTS who will believe any thing

OH by the way I am an independent Want me to say some thing bad about republicans ,OK republicans for the most part are spineless sheep , just going along to go along , and don't have the courage to stand up against the socialist communist machine that is taking over our country , The only ones standing up to them are the new young guns we elected in 2010 , the rest ALL OF THEM SHOULD FIRE , both parties ,

          Reply#46 - Sun Nov 27, 2011 1:41 PM EST

The accusations against him are false

So despite even Arpaio's own admission, along with an audit as solid proof, of poor management and misappropriation of funds, in your mind (only) none of this really didn't happen.

So despite the accounting and court records that indicate Maricopa County has paid out hundred of millions of dollars in lawyers' fee and lawsuit settlements (most from wrongful death and abuse of power), in your mind (only) none of this really happened.

So despite an independent investigation which found Arpaio's command staff riddled in corruption and abuse of power, the same investigation which caused Arpaio to fire Hendershott, Black and Fox (okay, Arpaio let Hendershott and Black retire one day prior to their termination date), in your mind (only) none of this really happened.

LOL, you must be blind and deaf.

And before you throw out the "leftist liberal...." truth is, I'm a former moderate republican, now independent.

Arpaio has done a huge disservice to the residents of Maricopa County and even worse to the organization he was elected to manage.

          Darrel,

Yes, there are idiots who believe anything, just like those who believe there is a "socialist communist democratic media propaganda machine." That sentence is so full of contradictions it makes my head hurt. Certainly doesn't feel like socialism or communism to me, media seems more right biased than anything. I guess whatever Fox/Rush says must be true, right?

Republican's need to remember the old saying ( watch what you wish for you might just get it ). They want deficit reduction, come January 1 2013 they will get $6.2 trillion worth of cuts. $1 trillion dollars they agreed on just to raise the debt. ceiling. The $1.2 trillion in automatic cuts the super committee couldn't agree on ($600 billion in defense cuts and $600 billion in non-discretionary spending cuts ) and the $4 trillion in Bush tax cuts that expire on that same day. That all totals to $6.2 trillion and President Obama doesn't have to do anything to get them. Obama played the Republican's like a real pro and they didn't even see it coming.

Arpaio's endorsement of Perry is a lame attempt on Perry's part to get back into the fold of the right wing lunatic fringe after his soft stance on illegal immigration. Perry is counting on Arpaio's (undeserved) reputation for being tough on illegals to help get him back on track.

Arpaio has drawn a lot of heat in Arizona after having to fire his toadies, Dave Hendershott and Joel Fox. And the ethics hearings that could result in disbarment of former County Attorney Andrew Thomas and Lisa Aubuchon didn't help him either. Joe's mismanagement of MCSO has finally come home to roost and it is doubtful that he will be re-elected in 2012.

Hopefully, the voters in Maricopa County will show Joe Arpaio the door in 2012. It's time MAricopa County had a competent sheriff in charge for a change.
