A debate sponsored by the American Enterprise Institute, the Heritage Foundation and CNN.

Wow, the American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation? That explains the spoiler of candidate questions floating around the internet.

Q) Congresswoman Bachman, you are so pretty and smart, how do you do it?

Q) Mr. Cain, how is it you are so awesome?

Q) Speaker Gingrich, you are so smart, can you lift objects using just your brain?

Q) Governor Romney, is being honest a burden?

Q) Congressman Paul, we hate you, go away.

Yeah, I think I'll wait for the highlight real.

Forgein policy. Well, we'll have lots to talk about:

1. Egypt seems to be hitting the skids;

2. Syria is sucking, and when Assad falls Hezbollah will take Beirut;

3. Iran is getting nukes;

4. Israel is going to nuke Iran soon;

5. Libya is going all fundamentalist; and

6. we are rocking Uganda.

Ron Paul ought to have a field day.

What is the over/under on how long Ron Paul will be allowed the microphone? During the last debate he was allowed 89 seconds, I don't suppose intrade allows bets on this kind of thing?

nisl,

You got me thinking. My office bookie just passed out Week 12 NFL pick sheets. Why not the same thing with GOP debator mic times? Spice it up with fun proposition bets like 3-1 Ron Paul gets twice the mic time of Jon Huntsman. Over/ Unders too.

With maybe a few dozen more of these things comin' up the possibilities are endless. What fun!

No doubt old Newt will blast the media--that way he can avoid answering the question. It's a GOP rule, deflect from answering the question by questioning those who ask the question. There's a pattern with the GOP, everything they screw up is the fault of the "lame-stream" media; never any acceptance of responsibility for their own actions, statements or gaffes.

    And now little Ricky Santorum says that humanitarian efforts in other countries are extremely important. I find that odd, since he and the rest seem to feel that American people are not worthy of such efforts.

            General thoughts on the debate so far:

            Some of them seem a little better prepped than in past debates.

            Paul and Huntsman are making some good points; they are getting some decent applause.

            Cain doesn't get it.

            Perry: "Privatize TSA." Yeah, right. Not real smart to turn over this function to private agencies.

            Bachmann: yada-yada-yada, followed by "It's Obama's Fault."

            Gingrich: looking smug, and thinking to himself, "I'm the smart guy in the room."

            Paul to Romney: "All this talk is just talk!"

            Israel, Israel, Israel: Paul's right-- They can take care of themselves.

            Romney: yada-yada-yada, followed by "It's Obama's Fault!"

            Perry on compromise with Democrats to break gridlock: yada-yada-yada, CinC of TX Nat'l Guard, "It's Obama's Fault." Wandered right off topic, he did. (And WTF is this crap about CinC of the Nat'l Guard? ALL governors are in charge of a state's Nat'l Guard for in-state emergencies. They have ZERO control when the the Guard is mobilized for war!)

            I guess I'll have to catch the rest on tomorrow's news. It's getting past my bedtime. Got to face that early a.m. commute.

            This whole "debate" reminds me of the Tom Lehrer song called "The Merry Waltz"

            There’s rioting in Africa

            They’re starving in Spain

            There’s hurricanes in Florida

            And Texas needs rain.

            The whole world is festering with unhappy souls

            The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles

            Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch

            And I don’t like anybody very much!

            But we can be tranquil and thankful and proud

            For man’s been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud

            And we know for certain that some lucky day

            Someone will set the spark off, and we will all be blown away!

            There’s rioting in Africa

            There’s strife in Iran

            What Nature doesn’t do to us

            Will be done by our fellow man!

            "We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly

            When Mr. Huntsman mentioned the Ottoman Empire I think Mr. Perry scratched his head. Otto-who???

            More good points. Middle East. Rely on the friends we know, and let situations in other areas develop before we jump in and take sides.

            I have always disagreed with the term "Arab Spring." Historically regime changes in that part of the world are unsettled and volatile affairs, and present events must be viewed with a historical context rather than through the lens of American idealism.

            Spent a lot of time in Cairo in the '90s. I wish the Egyptians the best.

            I wonder if Mitt Romney lost his modernity on a spring break trip during college.

            Americans are throwing up in their mouth over the choices the Republican Party has laid out for them. The economy is struggling, the president is highly vulnerable, the people are angry...and the GOP is no more likely to win the White House now than they were last year at this time. No voter will look at this bunch and declare any of them fit or qualified to be commander in chief. Think Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney would have nabbed bin Laden or Gaddafi? Not likely... http://www.sunstateactivist.org

            So glad this debate is over. My mind is in meltdown. Need Larry O to get me straight. And one of these clowns wants to be the leader of the free world. Save me.

            Dear phinephancy: They're all creeps aren't they?

            btw, welcome to First Read. I enjoy reading your posts.

            ****************

            As far as the media goes, have you ever begun reading a book by an author and you see that it's filled of inaccuracies? And you NEVER buy another book by that author again because of the obvious errors?

            That's how I feel about the media. Once they are dishonest, I don't come back. Ever. Journalism should never be about dishonesty. Mistakes, errors - yes. Dishonesty. No. Never.

            Same with politicians.

            First of all this is not a debate America. Instead this is a GOP/RNC Circus Act being played by a "Carnival Of Clowns." The "Gross Odd People" (GOP), and the "Really Not Competent" (RNC) only understand the Constitution Of The Confederate States Of America. These Confederate Politicians do not even want to understand the US Constitution, the Declaration Of Independence, or the Bill Of Rights. This "Crazy Conservative Crap" was under the GOP Circus Big Top for all to see. What America should be finally seeing is a Party of Economic Lobbyists that represent the top 1% only. They have no comprehension of US History at all, and it showed big time. Our Founding Fathers did not want a political mixing of Church and State at any level. That is fact America! The GOP/RNC are no longer a poltical party, but instead they are an Economic Lobbyist Group. The GOP/RNC have already been paid for by the Koch Brothers, "Goofy Grover," and large oil Corporations. They use their faith as an economic weapon to destroy the Middle Class, the Working Poor, the elderly, and disabled. The GOP/RNC ideas of faith do not include that are not in the top 1% of the income brackets. The GOP/RNC faith is used by them as a poltical weapon as well. They use their faith to attack the rights of others, and to stir up racial intolerance. "Bitchy Bachmann" believes that faith means letting the poorest of our citizens starve. "Nutty Newt" the man who loves to poltically puke. Economically believes in an economic "Feudal System" with no regualations at all. " That is fact America!! Is America seeing and hearing why the "Party Of NO has got to GO??? I hope so!
