As it typically does when President Obama goes on the road, the Romney campaign is bracketing the president's visit to New Hampshire today. But this time, it's doing it with its first TV advertisement of the race -- and it’s negative.
The ad begins -- featuring grainy video and ominous music -- with Obama campaigning in New Hampshire back in October 2008. "If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose," Obama is captured saying in the spot.
But, as the New York Times points out, “[T]he line, which is perhaps the spot’s most devastating moment, is also the one that seems to be the most taken out of context. In fact, at the time, Mr. Obama was referring to something that an aide to his then opponent, Senator John McCain of Arizona, had said in reference to the McCain campaign — not Mr. Obama, then or now.”
In fact, the Romney campaign pretty much admits this with its documentation of the ad's assertions.
OBAMA: “If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.”
Obama: “Senator McCain’s campaign actually said, and I quote, if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose.” (Senator Barack Obama, Remarks, Londonderry, NH, 10/16/08)
The Obama campaign pounced on Romney's advertisement, calling it "deceitful" and "dishonest." And the Democratic National Committee has accused Romney of being a "serial deceiver."
"Mitt Romney is a serial deceiver -- and his deceptions know no bounds," the DNC said in a release. "Romney will deceive about his own record, the record of his opponents and his positions on the issues. And when Mitt Romney is caught deceiving – he doubles down and deceives even more."
The Romney campaign defended its use, saying the “tables have turned” on the president. “President Obama and his campaign are doing exactly what candidate Obama criticized,” Romney Communications Director Gail Gitcho said. “President Obama and his team don’t want to talk about the economy and have tried to distract voters from President Obama’s abysmal economic record.”
After hitting Obama, the Romney ad pivots -- with soaring string music -- to what he wants to do. He hits on Tea Party talking points: “getting rid of programs, turning programs back to states”; “get rid of ‘ObamaCare’; “moral responsibility not to spend more than we take in”; “high time to bring those principles of fiscal responsibility to Washington, D.C.” And, with a shot of a manufacturing worker, he says, he’ll “make America a job-creating machine like it has been in the past.”

I wonder if Romney knows lying is against the principles of the Mormon Church. But I bet he drinks caffeine and alcohol too.. Of course even though not allowed in the Mormon church they sell it to others....
Folks.....
Read an account of the (particularly, early) life of Joseph Smith. Then, ask yourself if devotion to the truth was high on Mr. Smith's list of priorities.
You might see light on why Mr. Romney does not often adhere to the idea that: "Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour."
Romney is such a hypocrite, the scandal with him erasing and staff purchasing hard drives. Then he has the nerve to take the President of the United States out of Context. No respect for the truth.
I guess I looked at it in a defferent light. Everyone say's he took the President out of context, but to me he was trying to say if the economy is still being talked about then we wont win. So yes it's out of context because the president was just saying what McCain's staff said. I just think Romney way trying to make a point about the economy, and I'm not for Romney I just think their is alot of nit picking going on.
I think we need to look at what is going on in our country. We have a congress who can't agree on anything, we have a President who is pushing a jobs bill that helps the unions, but turns it's back on the other people. I don't want to hear how 50% of the people don't pay taxes because we all know that's B.S. A single male making $300.00 a week pays taxes and he doesn't get all the taxes he pay's in back at the end of the year. So we are going to let the Bushes tax cuts end at the end of the year, that's like putting a 5% income tax on everyone who works. But to hear it from Washington that's ok because we're going to lower payroll tax. So lets add it up by lowering payroll tax your taking more money from the employee ( because the employee will lose the matching employers part) you might save $35.00 but in reality you are losing $35.00 so how is that helping anyone? If you think about it all Washington is doing is taking away your retirement and adding income tax so they can find a way to spend more money. That's why I say the best thing I've heard so far is if congress doesn't do their jobs cut their pay in half send them home, when they return if they still wont do their jobs cut their pay again and send them home again. I bet they will start to work together then and we as Americans will all be better off. So who cares about the he said she said garbage and get to work!
Here is how Politifacts, a non-partisan political fact checking web site, rates Romney's recent statements. He doesn't appear to be very honest, does he?
http://www.politifact.com/personalities/mitt-romney/
But these mr grover puppets are unashamed of lies. I tell you fallon was right on the money with michele. It is exactly what she is. In fact they should make it the theme of all gop presidential candidates. They are all liars & romney the front runner proves it. The tune is catchy.
Mitt will flip on this also.
And i saw what fox news had to say about fallon's great choice of music for michele. Fallon's choice was perfect. Michele is a liar & a bitch. But fox news continues to lie. Saying that the choice of music was terrible. Look at michele. Was she upset. No way. All smiles.
It's nice to see how you liberals, in true pathetic and hypocritical fashion, personally insult conservative women. If Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama actually had the courage to go on a conservative-minded show, and the host played the same song, you liberals would be crying and pissing and moaning and having your period all over the place. All smiles.
I remember when obama had an interview on fox news. The interviewer began to yell at obama. Obama was trying to answer a question but the interview was yelling at the top of his voice. Let the guy answer. Maybe fox news didn't want to hear an answer.
And you have to admit that romney is a liar. It is soooo obvious in the tv ad. And michele is one too. But hey, she is at 6% the same as the child molester i mean molester cain. That is low. And there is a reason. It's because fallon was exactly right. She's a liar & a bitch.
Marshal,
No, what you seem to fail to remember, in your own twisted liberal mind, is that Obama consistently tried to dodge the question with Brett Baier. See, Obama wasn't being given the simple-minded platitude-filled happy-time interview session that his media lapdogs usually give him. He was being asked tough questions, and then being asked follow-up questions to the answers he gave, and he didn't like the line of questioning because for once, he wasn't made to look like the most amazing president we have ever had. Get over it. The man had a tough interview like ALL presidents should have, and Obama showed his true colors by acting like a little child when pressed for answers, a child very much like the majority of his base.
And Marshal, you fail to really argue anything objectively, which is typical of most pseudo-intellectual liberals. You just hate and call names and hurl insults. That is ALL you do. YOU represent everything that is wrong with this country... Happy Turkey Day!
Mr. Romney wants to be President and his first tv ad distorts all semblance of responsible rhetoric. I have always believed that a candidate running against an incumbent must convince me why the challenger would be better than the status quo. A challenger who distorts to the point of lying is not going to get very far.
Bruce,
Umm...do you really want me to go and find the list of ALL of the over 500 campaign vows and promises that Obama made, and then compare them to president Obama? You will see, that lying is all part of the game...it is how Obama was elected.
Looking back obama did a great job answering bret baier's questions. He answered honestly & accurately. But the interview failed. Gop presidents & their staff will only answer softball questions they get on fox news & fox doesn't want obama & his staff before their audience.
Honestly is important. Not so say mr grover & the gop. Lies, lies, lies. It is what politics is all about. Remember when mr grover's bushman said he would do an al gore wrt co2, then did a 180 on his first day in office. Lies and more lies. Fallon was right. A spade is a spade.
Marshal,
No, Obama did not answer honestly and accurately, that is why he was dodging Baier's questions, Baier continued to press, and then Obama snapped at him a bit...claiming Baier was interrupting him, but Obama was simply deflecting while Baier was forcing him to stay on topic. Baier wanted a specific answer to his very specific question, and Obama was stalling because he can't function without a teleprompter. And speaking of 'softball questions', you must have missed your own uber-lib Jew-hating Helen Thomas excoritating Obama and his administration for their massive failure of transparency and openness, even though Obama promised to run the most transparent administration in history. You might not remember that Helen Thomas was one of the most respected White House Press Corps journalists of the last few decades. I believe she had been covering the White House and a member of the Press Corps since Nixon was in office. So, no one knows more about which administrations lack transparency more than Helen Thomas. Yeah Marshal, when Thomas found out that the Obama administration called reporters the night before to go over questions and answers, she went over Obama's puppet Robert Gibbs, her quote was:
"I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well--for the town halls, for the press conferences,” she said. “It’s
blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame.”
And she closes with “I'm amazed. I'm amazed at you people who called for openness and transparency."
So, you see Marshal, your boy has done the 180, stop blaming Bush, Obama's term as president is almost over, start taking responsibility like a big boy. A spade is a spade right? A real man would give time to all major media outlets if he was confident in his message and his intellectual capabilities...again, he needs a teleprompter to function, so he can't handle a tough interview, that is why he has basically never had one, and the one he did have, he got all pissy like a little child...He's weak. A spade is a spade, right?
But look at some of the interviews and look at the comments. They say what a lousy interviewer. It is because the interviewer asks a question and gets an accurate & honest answer but it's not the one that the interviewer wants. The interviewer should listen to the answer.
Mr grover' bushman #43 was a liar. Take 911. The hole in the pentagon should in the 2nd floor not the 1st for a 767 it's engines not touching the ground. Reopen 911 & let's find out more lies. It all started with liar ken lay & ended with the crash of 1929 i mean 2007.
Wow Marshal, one minute we are talking about Obama's failure at tough interviews, the next thing I know I have a 9/11 conspiracy theorist on my hands. Just...WOW.
So now 9/11 is Bush's fault? It was one big conspiracy?? LOL!! Wow dude. Missiles dont knock down huge metal telephone poles hundreds of yards in front of the Pentagon. We have lots of witness testimony from independent witnesses that saw the plane crash into the Pentagon. There is split-second video that shows the nose of the plane entering the pentagon. And I dont know what you are talking about as far as the levels of the pentagon, because pictures and video clearly show that the hole covered the ENTIRE section that the plane struck, from top to bottom and it plowed into several sections of walls thereafter...Ease off the Kool-aid big guy.
No, with Obama and a tough inteview, the interviewer gets evasive tactics, stalling, 'starting from the beginning', excuses, justifications etc. One rarely gets an honest, accurate answer from Obama. Check out politifact.com and all of the lies Obama has told in speeches and interviews. Some of them are just wildly inaccurate...and this is type of BS Baier was trying to paddle through while getting real answers from Obama.
Bret baier's job was to get a 'gotcha' answer from obama. But obama is really doing a good job for the people & had no problem answering the questions honestly & completely. That frustrated fox news and eventually they blew up & did not want obama before their audience.
Wow, Obama is doing a really good job for the people?!?!? Are you crazy?
Unemployment is still above 9%, after his staff vowed that if we passed his massive stimulus($787 Billion), it would not go over 8%. Gas prices have nearly tripled since he took office. He runs the most controlling and obtuse administration in the last 40 years (according to liberal Helen Thomas), his administration has never passed a budget (even though the DEMS had a supermajority the first two years), his one major piece of legislation, Obamacare, has constitutional issues, and is being decided by the supreme court soon and might be struck down, the housing market is at it's lowest in decades, our economy has been downgraded, food prices are rising, he bailed out big auto and big banks, he has turned his back on our close ally Israel by telling them to return to pre-1967 borders with Palestine (even though Israel won this land in a war that Palestine started by attacking Israel), he has managed to polarize this nation to a level I have never seen in my lifetime, and we have a gridlocked Congress that cannot accomplish anything, and his presidency has given rise to two 'movements', one from the right (Tea Party) and one from the left (OWS). So yeah, you wanted change, you got it...Look at all the great things Obama has done for 'the people.' Good stuff, Marshall.
