Cain says his race will help the GOP. But is he right?

Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain is claiming his race will help him win over African American voters.

In a seven-page mailer sent to Iowans over the weekend, Cain writes, "as a descendent of slaves I can lead the Republican Party to victory by garnering a large share of the black vote, something that has not been done since Dwight Eisenhower garnered 41 percent of the black vote in 1956."

But while Cain might believe he'll garner a larger share of the black vote in a head-to-head match-up against President Obama, this month's NBC/WSJ poll — which had an oversample of 400 African-American respondents — tells a different story.

In a hypothetical general election matchup, according to the poll, Obama gets support from 93 percent of African Americans, while Cain gets just 6 percent.

Against Romney, Obama performs similarly among black voters. Ninety-two percent of African Americans would support Obama, versus just six percent for Romney. According to the 2008 exit polls, Obama got 95 percent of the African American vote.

Even with sliding poll numbers, Cain has attracted large crowds at recent events — but supporters attending Cain rallies are overwhelmingly white.

The mailer is the latest sign of Cain's increased fundraising haul at work. The campaign raised more than $1 million for its “Iowa Fund,” and earlier this month Cain announced he had brought in more than $9 million since Oct. 1.

Herman Cain is the best nominee in the Republican field.

If Republicans know what is good for them they will line up behind Mr. Cain ASAP.

Here's part of the Cain story we DON'T hear about:

Cain clearly believes that his pro-business message is what GOP voters want to hear. So much so, in fact, that on Saturday he officially unveiled his candidacy for the 2012 GOP nomination. But scrubbed from Cain’s official story is his long tenure as a director at a Midwest energy corporation named Aquila that, like the infamous Enron Corporation, recklessly drove into the wild west of energy trading and speculation – and ultimately screwed its employees out of tens of millions of dollars,” Mother Jones reports.

According to a massive class action lawsuit against Aquila’s board of directors – including Cain – he allegedly steered employees into heavily investing their retirement savings in company stock, while at the same time shifting their business model from straightforward energy generation to risky energy trading – the kind of corporate greed that infamously brought down Enron, Mother Jones reports. In the suit, it claims that Cain and other top officials violated a 37-year-old federal law that requires employers to responsibly manage the retirement programs for their employees. Their pensions and life savings were lost.

Unraveling Herman Cain’s Money Laundering Scheme
October 21, 2011 By (Search for complete article.)

Newt Gingrich does it. Ron Paul does it. Running for president in order to raise expense money isn’t news. But Herman Cain has adopted an entirely new strategy for converting campaign contributions to other uses. Cain’s tactic is a way to convert campaign contributions directly into personal cash — sell your product to yourself.

Bloomberg reports that the Cain campaign spent $36,511 on books and $64,000 on other expenses to a company named “THE New Voice, Inc.” THE New Voice, Inc. is solely owned by Herman and Gloria Cain.

Of course it’s not quite that simple. Herman Cain’s corporation (that exists to promote Herman Cain) is selling Herman Cain’s books (that were written to promote Herman Cain) to Herman Cain’s campaign (which some argue was created to promote Herman Cain’s books.) Sheesh! No wonder this guy speaks in the third person so much.
“They are buying my books and my pamphlets,” one Herman Cain told Bloomberg of another Herman Cain. Is his use of “they” an indication of something to hide? Are we to believe no Herman Cain had anything to do with the insider deal? C’mon, Herman Cain’s. Seriously?

Unraveling the nature of this money laundering scheme (which might turn out to be sort of – but not entirely – legal) requires some understanding of the book publishing industry, a little knowledge about the Federal Elections Commission, a look inside Cain’s company, “THE New Voice, Inc.,” and at least a dab of inference, since Herman Cain won’t speak candidly about what he bought from Herman Cain.

Is Herman Cain breaking the law? Bloomberg asked Bill Allison, of the electoral watchdog group the Sunlight, Foundation, if the transactions deserve further investigation. “All candidates publish books and they offer them as premiums to donors, but most candidates aren’t buying them from their own companies,” he said. “It raises the question of his campaign contributions ending up in his own pocket.” Making a profit from your campaign is a no-no.

I can’t remember a recent case where the candidate was so brazenly putting money directly in his own pocket. Cain deliberately created a strategy to turn donations into cash. Diverting campaign donations directly into one’s bank accounts represents a whole new level of audaciousness.

Is Herman Cain unaware of the law? And what happened to that resident agent guy?

THE New Voice, Inc. has always listed only two corporate officers, Herman and Gloria Cain. But since its founding in 2004 and up until 2011, it listed Stefan Passantino as its resident agent. Passantino is the Washington, DC Partner for McKenna, Long and Aldridge, the firm that filed THE New Voice Inc.’s original incorporation. And yes, it’s unusual for a large-firm partner to be anyone’s resident agent.

Passantino, however, is not your ordinary business lawyer. It turns out he’s the “head of McKenna Long & Aldridge’s Political Law Team.” According to the company website, he specializes in “state and federal election law, campaign finance, pay-to-play and lobbying laws, and ethics issues.” Not your typical resident agent. So why, after serving Cain’s company for six years, did he disappear from corporate filings just before Cain started running for office? Did this election law expert see something that caused concern? Certainly, insider dealing would raise red flags, wouldn’t it?

Why is this not being looked into?????

Actually Cain is right. It will even the playing field. No more will democrats say "you didn't want a black man in the White House" or "you just hate the president because he's black". I remember how the majority of people voted for Obama just because he was black. His 2007 presidential run, nobody questioned him the way they did Hillary. Even the media thought it was a joke. You'll find that more people will now focus in on Obama's issues of how good a President he is rather than on his race.

I know you democrats don't want to hear this, but let's face it. Being black was the only thing that got Obama to the White House.

Unhappy - I'm going to partially disagree with you on your racist point. Being black was the only thing that got obama to the White House among the black voters. However, it also took a lot of white voters to help him into the position. Even though he garnered 95% ofthe black voters, he still needed help from the white voters.

It's really sad that a voter will support a candidate based on race rather than merits.

Mr. Cain, as a candidate, would not have a (D) after his name. The black vote always goes to the (D). As one urban voter responded on the news in my state said, when asked about his voting plans... If your statement was true, jessie Jackson would have been president, the truth is that between choosing John mcCain and Barack Obama the majorty of people picked Obama.

also you statement is just stupid because black only make up 10% of the voting block. to say 10% of Americans can determine who's president is stupid.

Cain thinks because he is black, he can win black voters is out landish and racist.

It's interesting to note that the article states that supporters attending Cain rallies are overwhelmingly white. This tends to further prove that race is not a big factor in politics, either for the Democrats or Republicans. There were a lot of white people at Obama rallies, where are the conservative blacks? You've read this wrong. It's not race as in color of skin. The race Cain is talking about is the race to the bottom. Each of the G.O.P. Presidential candidates has plumbed the depths in the RACE to the bottom, to find the lowest common denominator.

Apparently, they haven't found it yet. Keep racing fellows. Apparently there is something lower than a bought and paid for ex-Speaker of the House who was thrown out in disgrace. There's something lower than a for sale Governor who can't remember one-third of the targets on his hit list. There's something lower than an alleged mathematician who seems to have respect problems when it comes to women. There's something lower than an honest-to-goodness job-killer who doesn't know where he stands from one day to the next. For Pete's sake, there's even something lower than a Michelle Bachmann who can't make the cut for "Are you smarter than a Kindergartener?"

    Jeff;

Being black was the only thing that got Obama to the White house; that and the lack of media scrutiny that they had put on the other democratic candidates. If you remember the 2007 campaigns they treated Obama with kid gloves while the others were being tortured by the press. The reason I remember it, is because it even reached republican news broadcasts. Remember when MSNBC's Tucker Carlson mocked Clinton for her speech about Gender Discrimination ( January 23, 2008)?

MSNBC host Tucker Carlson stated: "It takes a lot of guts for a rich, privileged white lady who is one of the most powerful people in the world to claim that she is a victim of gender discrimination."

Clearly the media showed favorites in the news and only gave Obama good news coverage; and yes, you could already see them pushing the race card. Once he had the democratic nomination, it really did become a question of voting for a black candidate. Their slogan basically became that of " vote for Obama to prove your not a racist"!

I also remember the news coverage in NY where the Black panthers had the nerve to block the white voters from voting booth and nobody did anything.

Those who tell themselves that Obama was elected because he is (half) black are in deep denial. These people rarely leave their hometowns and really have no idea of how things work in the real world. They just don't get it and they never will.

Obama was elected because he has a superior intellect and knows how things REALLY are in this world. His thoughts and ideas are sound and make perfect sense. He doesn't trample on others' personal freedoms. You can be a Christian and be a Democrat. No one will stop you or force you. Obama believes that the American people need to be protected from predatory business practices. Not all of us can get a law or business degree and can not protect ourselves against corruption. Even if we were highly educated, there is always someone who will exploit weaknesses. Obama wants to stop that. Why do the republicans think this is wrong? Aren't Christians supposed to stand up for what is right?

Jeff: I know you Republicans don't want to hear this, but Obama did not win the White House because he was half-black. I know it's very, very difficult for Republicans to understand this, but a lot of voters actually vote for the best qualified leader, not the one whose race they are comfortable with. Obama was voted in by a landslide because of his IDEAS, of which the Republicans prove repeatedly, they are out of. After 8 years of the disastrous George Bush (you'd seriously argue I suppose he won because he was white??) voters embraced someone who is a real leader: cry all you want about voters being dumb...they are not and they are about to do it again with a second Obama term so we can continue this recovery from that Bush debacle. As to dismissive comments about African Americcans: did it occur to you that African Americans voted for Obama in overwhelming numbers because overwhelming numbers of African American voters are registered DEMOCRATS??

I love how Republicans try to claim that the President only won because he is black (as if the Presidency were some sort of affirmative action position), claim that blacks only voted for him because he's black (as if blacks don't already vote overwhelmingly for Democrats and aren't capable of thinking for themselves), and act as if a black man couldn't POSSIBLY become President merely by being the smartest and best candidate.

And then Republicans wonder why they can't seem to get the black vote. Ummm....DUH!

According to lib logic all Problems in the US can contribute to the following items. Any dem or liberal rebuttal or attack will contain a reference to one of the following as the root of their argument.

    TEA Party

    Bush

    GOP

    Obstruction

    Fox

    Rich People

    Greed

    Grover

As where greed may be the root of evil, there is no greed greater than socialism, wealth redistribution and feeding on the success of others. Dems and libs are narrow minded, rude, arrogant, immoral, fascist, masochist, blind, sheep, being led to slaughter by the very things they hold dear.

What percentage pays taxes? To receive benefits from something which you have not, do not and will not contribute too is theft, unless you are physically and mentally unfit for anything.

The world does not owe you a living Grasshopper!

If our current president is unable to unite and lead the people of our government then maybe he is not the man for the job. He has proved ineffective in dealing with almost every domestic issue he has been faced with. Instead of leading he points the finger and blames.

Libs and Dems, the winter is coming 2013

Personally, I am SICK and TIRED of People using Crutches to further their Agenda. Stand on your abilities and expect advancement through Merit alone! Stop using the Race Card! If we can start looking at it from a more reasonable perspective, i.e., we are one RACE! The key to winning the black vote is to erode the grip through meticulous and methodical research within the demographics of the greater black populous, and using that information effectively. First it takes effort to court people of various demographics, and they have gambled on a few faces to lead this effort such as Cain, West, Jindal and Rubio. Check out Jennifer Carroll out in Florida, or Micheal Williams tryin to do big things out in Tehas, the list is bigger than that and is growing every year. Pssst, they even have the NBRA, but don't tell anybody. It will be a learning curve for them, but they have to make this adjustment to remain viable. One of the greatest threat to Democrats, is losing the minority vote even at low ranges of 10-25%. Don't say it won't or it can't happen, because its developing right now.

        Herman Cain is a joke.

His presence dishonors the entire political process.

His candidacy is merely a political attempt to reach swing voters. He knows he had/has no chance.

I think he was surprised by his initial successes and actually started to believe in himself. lol. Thats when the proverbial bucket of water hit him in the face and he woke up realizing that the nightmare isn't over. He's still actually in a presidential race! Oh the horror!

This fool actually thinks/thought he could fool the United States of America in to voting for him. The guy wants to use the Pizza Chain model to run this country. What???

Obviously he has no chance now but imagine, just for a moment, if Herman Cain actually won the nomination. That would have been a real injustice.

I'm convinced that there are some decent right leaning people in this country.

Could all 3 of them please announce their candidacies? Please!?!?

Not that I'd vote for them, I don't vote anyway, but it would be nice to see some people with brains in the political process, not just one.

I don’t really know if being black will help Herman Cain get black votes. Yes, he’s twice as black as Obama but being a conservative, he’s considered by the NAACP and the liberal establishment to be a runaway slave from their 21st century plantation.

They need for Herman Cain to be brought back into the clutches of their liberal masters or if not, be destroyed.

Aquila was headed to bankruptcy and Herman Cain saved the company. Maybe the people that got laid off during the restructuring didn't like it and the liberals can whine about it but he did the job he was hired for. Sorry whiney liberals when the choice is laying off people to save jobs for others or just going out of business the mature thing to do is cut your work force. If you want to complain about how someones done something to really screw up the economy Google the CRA Lawsuit. The CRA Lawsuit in 1994 is what set America up for the Mortgage Meltdown because it forced banks into giving loans to unqualified borrowers. The banks then sold these toxic loans to Fannie and Freddie who after Bill Clinton changed the rules had to buy them without any consideration of how bad a loan it was. Fannie and Freddie knowing these loans were toxic 'bundle' them and sold them to investors like AIG. Are you starting to get the picture?? Lax regulations did not cause the financial meltdown. One man and the CRA Lawsuit caused millions of Americans to lose their jobs and homes. Google CRA Lawsuit and see who that man is!

Red, of course it's hypocrisy, especially while so-called "conservative" Herman Cain is using our "socialist" Secret Service, paid for out of the pockets of the hard-working American Taxpayers, the majority of which would NEVER vote for Herman Cain, instead of hiring his own private security paid for by his own political supporters.

"Cain" ought to be "ashamed", but he's too much of a hypocrit he feels like he's "entitled" to spend the American Taxpayers' hard earned money, even though he's never been elected to any political office.

Two wars, pretending they didn't cost, spending us into oblivion, turning a surplus into a record deficit...The only ones combarable to the Taliban are the AMERICAN Taliban Party, the right wing nuts making up the base of the so called Republican Party, which even Ronald Reagan would no longer recongize. Nothing could have a more devastating effect than to return power to those mental and moral midgets you worship.

In just 3 short years Obama has pretty near destroyed the US economy

Yeah! You see, what Obama did was he jumped in his time machine and went back in time and forced Republicans to pass Medicare Part D, start two wars and pass massive tax cuts for Paris Hilton! It was on that same trip back in time when he faked his Hawaiian birth announcements and covered up his time living in Kenya!

and now with his failed super committee and his promised veto of the spending triggers he has eviserated our Military

Yeah! So what happened here was that Obama forced Republicans to take the debt ceiling hostage so that he could cut the military... Or something?

Are we sure he's not working for the Taliban?

That's what Osama Bin Laden thinks! What? Osama is dead? How'd that happen?

              Who was president in 1980?

Who inherited a far worse economy 1981(double digit unemployment, double digit inflation, double digit interest rates) and didn't whine and blame others about it like the current crybaby in chief?

The fact is, you guys can blame Bush for those two wars all you want. If that is the kind of President you prefer where it is okay to blame the former president and not do anything about it yourselves, than go ahead and vote for Obama again. I prefer not to think the way you do. The President (Obama) has had 3 years to make good on his promises; and when you think about, nothing has really changed in the past 3 years. If he made compromises along the way, that is the result of him and him alone. Not the fault of the Republican party. It shows you that he has done nothing but waste his time in office. I wonder what his new slogan will be for the 2012 election, because I know it won't be " hope and change".

Guess what Rob? Congress allocates funds--and Congress is overwhelmingly run by Republicans at the moment. Try to digest that fact--It is our incompetent and do nothing Congress that has ruined this economy. They also ruined their credibility with their overwhelming personal greed and one sex/economic scandal after another. The public servant mentality has been replaced with a "What's in it for me?"mentality. There has been a blue light special on politicians for some time now. Congress smells like the south end of a north bound skunk. Blaming our economy on one man is ridiculous.

              Rob

Reagan raised the deficit limit 17 or 18 times to pay with a credit card for his star wars, (which never will work) King Georgie raised it 7 times to put his ubfunded wars on the credit card. Remember Dick, (deficits don't matter) Cheney? We had more money in the treasury then the country was spending, King Georgie gave that all away and started 2 unnecessary wars all based on lies.

              Unhappy

It took King Georgie 8 years to put us in this spot, Unemployment was in freefall when he left, Bin Laden was still out there, companies were on the virge of collapse and putting hundreds of thousand more on unemployment. Now the unemployment is going down slowly, vompanies are on a more fiscal footing, BIN LADEN is DEAD. Eight years of a disfunctional president doing damage will take more than 3 years to fix.

You seem to forget what preceded Obama and just how much harm was done by the Bush administration. We literally were subjected to one of the most shameful periods in American history where the sitting president and his cronies robbed that American public and government off for billions and once they were done they left the mess at Obama’s door step. I strongly suggest that you go back and review your history because you have it all wrong.

Maybe it was far worse FOR YOU, in 1980; but overall, 2008 and the anemic recovery is WIDELY considered to be the WORST recession since the Great Depression; by economists on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Republicans hold the majority in the House. They have a minority in the Senate but, given that the Democrats do not have the "super-majority" of 60 votes needed to do anything, the Republicans can filibuster any bill they don't like so it can't even come up to a vote.

Reagan started the huge US debt with the first version of "Trickle Down" economics! Remember, it was called "Voodoo", Both Bushes hammered the nale in the coffin with their own versions of the same programs. It has been nothing but a disaster.

He has had ample time since then to improve the condition of the country, and yes, believe it or not, he has wasted his time in office.

And for those of you who think that Obama should stay in office because he got rid of Osama Bin Laden, keep in mind that he couldn't do it without an amazing US military. A military that you democrats want to cut to suit your own needs!

I think President Obama should stay in office because he's done a pretty decent job in SPITE of the Republican opposition AND there simply isn't a single person running against him that presents a VIABLE alternative.

American socialism is linked to immigrant Germans from the 1850s. (grins) It is as American as "apple pie" [and the French word used among automobiles] "Chevrolet", and part of the principles of a "free market", capitalistic society and common-wealth.

Reality check: Socialistic ideologies are alive and well on both sides of the political aisle in this "great land" of ours... It is part of the the American indivisible way.

As it is, you democrats want much, but expect others to pay for it. Unhappy,
I'm a moderate. I would like to ask you one question, well maybe two; Do you feel that ALL the poor and disinfranchised in this country did it to themselves?

Would you just like to brush them out of this country, like lint under your table?

I don't feel that many of our social programs are managed very efficiently, but I realize the need for them. Eliminating them would be disastrous for this country's economy, just as Bush's tax program is. "Trickle down" economics have never worked. If you put the tax burden on the middle class, this country's economy is doomed.
Cain's tax program is just as damaging, since it places a tax burden on the poor that they would not be able to meet.
A straight across 10% income tax would be ideal, since everyone pays their fair percentage. And, it's a burdon everyone could meet. A standard state sales tax rate would also work, say 5% distributed by the state according to the county's populations. Pretty easy. No more loopholes.
By the way, I don't agree with the reduction of military funding for obvious reasons. But, just as in the Social programs, we do need to streamline and cut out frivolous expenses, like the unlimited budget the R&D programs have. Stop funding corporations to develop systems, and only buy them when good ones are developed. THAT in and of itself will cut a quarter of the military tax obligation. There are far too many companies in the US getting fat on tax dollars for not developing ANYTHING.

@unhappy, Democrats pay taxes too. It's ok for you to be unhappy about a progressive tax system if you are in the upper brackets but you're sorely mistaken if you believe that the taxes that we all pay didn't help you become wealthy. And that, Mr. Unhappy, is how america prospers.

GR Adams, great post. I often try to get that point across but it falls on deaf ears.

Republicans are the biggest welfare queens out there. Just look at Michelle Bachmann.

The Red States (with the exception of Texas) would all be welfare states without the innovation and creativity of the Democrats in the Blue States. Why do these people have so much power? They deserve none. They blame their failures on the poor and helpless.

Actually I'm not wealthy. My taxes went to take care of you too. I went to a community college and paid back all the student loans myself. No need to ask the govt. for a hand out or protest in the streets. I thought you democrats believed in fairness. Is it wrong for me to earn money when I worked hard for it? How many democrats do not work hard for the money they earn and have the nerve to take it from the people that do? I know you all blame the rich; but that really is the result of jealousy more than anything else. I am content with what I have, so I have no need to take it from others. Are you content with what you have?

                  GR Adams:

I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but don't blue states contribute more to the federal coffer than red states?. Don't red states get more than they give?

Actually no. The red states are usually less populated than the blue states. So even though you think the red states get more money, it is in fact, the blue states that recieve more per person. When you consider how much they pay in taxes to how much they recieve in federal aid, the blue states get recieve much more money than they give.

I am in the upper brackets and i would never vote GOP or TP. Your policies are simply bad for America and good for only a tiny segment of our society. And when we see you practicing arrogance when you should be showing embarrasment at your own ignorance and the candidates and policies you support it only reinforces all of that.

@ Unhappy. Voxrationis is correct. Voxrationis believes in paying the fair tax for the income generated. If I am earning $300,000, I should be able to pay the same or a little more of my earned income than my secretary who is now paying more. To be fair, I should pay at least 25% of my income instead of 10% and my secretary who is paying 30% of her $40,000 income. P.S there is no system of 'trickle down' that has ever worked!!

California is the top earning state in the nation and the world's ninth largest economy.

New York is second and it is also a Blue State.

Texas is next and that is only because of oil. The rest of the red states are welfare states.

Washington and Oregon follow. They are also Blue States. Boeing, Microsoft, Nike.

The republicans are unimaginative, unproductive welfare queens. If the Blue States succeeded them, they would be destitute. Why the heck do republicans think they are so entitled?

OJT has some merit....If he can learn from past mistakes...and, actually, I have seen some of the lately. I know....I've been blasting Obama for months, but I do see him seeking advice from experienced people and trying to strengthen our alliances and strategically place our troops so that, if the ME decides to rumble, there can be a quick response. I see him as being more "Presidential" if you will and less of a community organizer. Then there are the contenders....Sheesh!!!

I can not help thinking when I see a headline like this how will we as a nation ever be truly rid of racism if the media and our leaders rely on and put forth often irrelevant blanket racial distinctions. Paying any attention to media at all it is impossible to escape a constant stream of often meaningless statistics and conclusions based upon race. It is almost like we are not allowed to overlook race.

Mr. Cain's support base has nothing to do with race. He is a successful business man, with some rather interesting ideas that apparently appeal to like-minded people. Regardless of the color of their skin. His attempt to appeal to black voters simply because his is black is just as counterproductive to race relations as those who shun him - either as an "Oreo," or simply because he is black.

Our multi-cultural tapestry in the U.S. is utterly remarkable. It is one of the things that makes us great. It is naive to expect we will ever get to a point where we can completely disregard race and look at each other simply as Americans. Sometimes, however, I think leaders and media take the easy racial-distinction path rather than really trying to help progress to a truly homogeneous society.

What you said sounded so good. " I can not help thinking when I see a headline like this how will we as a nation ever be truly rid of racism" did you think of that when the headlines were about the racist attacks by TP/Conservatives against President Obama, when some questioned if he was an American, caled him a socialist, marxist said he was not a Christian. What about the posters that had him and his family as monkeys, did you think of how we could be rid of racism then ?Being a racist is not something one is born as it is something they have to be taught and as long as we have racist who teach their children to hate it will never die.

                    realnard56,

Not sure what your point is here........my conclusions had nothing to do with anyone attacking anyone. I was addressing a much more subtle aspect of real and/ or perceived racism.

I believe within the context of my post the reader would conclude I would indeed have thought the same thoughts about past headlines, and would deplore any racist attacks against the President.

We must be careful what we define as racism. Over-using and abusing a term just dilutes any chance of dealing with what the term represents in an effective fashion. Un-American, socialist, marxist, and un-Christian are not racist terms.

I think that to some black people (4%) rising above oppression means joining the republican party.

However, (and I'm talking to you Herman Cain, Conde Rice, Colin Powell, etc) black republicans can pay dues to that club for the rest of their lives and NEVER be members. Why would you do that? Why would you support those who seek to suppress? Why would you let yourself be used?

                      I personally feel it is a form of Stockholm Syndrome (where one begins to sympathize with one's captors). Some black people think that by sympathizing with the republicans, they can become equal. What I am here to say is what 96% of black people have already figured out;

Herman Cain is a phony, a sellout, and a traitor to his own people. If the republicans are successful electing him, it would only be because they can manipulate him. He will bend to their wishes because he wants the power and respect that comes with the office. He will never get it. He will be hated and when the republicans are done with him they will blame it all on him.

                      marinmom,

What you have written is true to some extent, however the issue is much deeper than that which can be explained on a simple blog. For example, lower middle class and poor white Americans are often registered republicans and seemingly vote against their own best interest.

America is a huge country, comprised of almost every race and national heritage. Children of slaves and slaveowners, refugees of past wars, and indigenous people who's ancestors were here long before the country was formed.

The reasons for one being either Republican or Democrat cannot be boiled down to simple logic. It is a human thing. It would take volumes by learned and educated minds to dissect the various workings of this complex situation.

We can only hope that in the long run our system of government will filter the best and most fair ideas for all stakeholders involved and lead to a more perfect union.

Silver Flyer, you do bring up some valid points. My views on black republicans pale in comparison to my views on poor dumb religious types who vote republican because they think it's for Jaaaayzuuus. Both groups are oblivious to the fact that they are being USED. However, their continued support of the republican party only strengthens their dependency on churches, which is a huge strategy and part of the republican agenda. If the republicans can get poor dumb people to vote republican because they are dependent on the churches the whole welfare dependency thing perpetuates itself. In the town where I live, a church just paid off a $6800 auto loan on a Lincoln Navigator for a welfare queen. They also bought her loyalty. They used Federal funding to do it.

Republicans are just fine with welfare if you slap a Jesus label on it. And they are fine with bashing Democrats who are on welfare. Then they gripe about the constitution. How is a Lincoln Navigator for a welfare mother constitutional? Where's my Lincoln Navigator?

Oh, and if you don't believe this story, you have your head where the sun don't shine. This kind of crap happens every day.

Conservatives have had their boots on the neck of black Americans forever. Although not every conservative is racist, most racists are conservatives. Why would any self respecting black join a party that considers them to be inferior? Conservatives still pine for a white bread America, absent of dark skinned foreigners. They fear the changing demographics, where in fifty years, white people will be a minority.

In Detroit, it was revealed earlier in the year that there are 15 thousand Democratic voters in Detroit MORE than there are registered voters of voting age. And the registrar has made the statement that they cant fix it until after the next election. Im actually a resident of Florida even though I live most of the year in Detroit, so I vote via a absentee ballot. I would hate to miss the fun of watching the Cars coming to pick up voters filled with coffee and sandwiches, cookies maybe a free Ipad or two. Like I said the other day, I've given up arguing with anyone, I will vote and wait to see the results.

Jolly ... As of the 2010 census, Detroit has 713,777 citizens. So, in a city of nearly three-quarters of a million, you say there are fifteen thousand Democratic voters, and this is a larger number than the amount of all "registered voters of voting age"? So, by your figures, less than 2% of Detroit's residents are registered to vote, and somehow ... magically ... more than 2% of Detroit's residents vote Democrat? Please cite your sources, because it sounds to me like you're pulling this out of your butt.

Rob, Oh, please. . .There IS one such person and his name is George W. Bush. Anyone with half a brain knows that it was 8 years of BushCo policy decisions that got us into this mess, and that it's going to take more than 3 years to get the s**t straightened out.

And everyone knows that Obama had three years to put us into even more debt; and further plunge us into a deeper recession than ever before. If this is what he has done in three years (when it took Bush 8 years) then I don't think I can take it anymore.

                            @unhappy,

Our country's leading economists predicted that it would take ten years for the country to recover from Bush's raping and pilfering. Why are you under the impression that three years with an obstructive congress is enough? Are you an idiot or just being paid by the GOP to lie on online forums?

And having said that, you now go under my "ignore" button because you sound like a two year old, like most of the conservatives on here sound.

Marimon: Obama didn't have an obstructive Congress when he took office. In fact, he had the majority. He could have done anything he wanted at that point. The democrats were voted out of office because they still couldn't make up their minds. I think it is unfair of you to say that it is all the republicans fault when Obama could have stopped this before it had gotten any worse.

Unhappy, you were in 2008 with the outcome of the election then. You won't be voting for the President in 2012. However, what in God's name do you think Mitt, Michelle, Herman or Rick brings to the table to make you happy? Is it coupon healthcare that attracts you? Is it corporate welfare that gives you the warm and fuzzy? Is it the knowledge that our 6x the next nation's defense budget keeps you safe? Is it the "social consciousness" that you look forward to? What is it exactly? I have no idea. You don't like the President. So what. Do you think that the damage and decay that has taken decades in the making can be fixed in 2,4,6,8 or more years? Does Mr. Boehner speak you language? Do you think there is a magic jobs wand that you wave and jobs are created? I don't think you have any answers except that you don't like the President. That's not plan or a platform. Please tell Mr. McConnell. That's not electable.

Even in the exit polls most African Americans SAID they voted for BHO because he was black.

Obviously it took tremendous amounts of research for them to figure this much out.

Take about 4-5 prozac pills and drink a half bottle of wine and do what Herman Cain was told to do when a young man go to the back of the bus sit down and shut up. First those two guys standing outside the building were not black panthers so get that lie straight. I doubt very seriously white people that don't live in the projects that are primarily black are going there to vote considering they don't live there and how do I know this because black people that don't live there won't go in there and vote either. I bet the only black friends you have are the ones you watch on T.V. dsdsherm you are a brainwashed fool first polls are about as useful as a broken television they poll 900 - 1200 people out of about 22,000,000 and tell you this is what a majority of black people said know does this really make any sense and they tell you the margin of error is 3 - 5 % more like 3,000,000 - 5,000,000 %

Unfortunately I can't find the one from NY. However this "lie" you spoke of showed up in Wikeipedia.

The New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case, sometimes known simply as the Black Panther Case, is a political controversy in the United States concerning an incident that occurred during the 2008 election. The New Black Panther Party and two of its members, Minister King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson, were charged with voter intimidation for their conduct outside a polling station in Philadelphia. The Department of Justice later narrowed the charges against Minister King Shabazz and dismissed the charges against the New Black Panther Party and Jerry Jackson. The decision to dismiss the charges has led to accusations that the Department of Justice under the Obama administration is biased against white victims and unwilling to prosecute minorities for civil rights violations. These charges have been most notably made by J. Christian Adams, who in May 2010 resigned his post in the Department of Justice in protest over the Obama Administration's perceived mishandling of the case, and by his former supervisor Christopher Coates.

Counter-accusations have also been made, including claims that the actual incident was relatively minor, but its importance had been blown out of proportion by individuals and groups with political motives. Attorney General Eric Holder has also rejected claims that his Justice Department considers the race of an alleged victim when deciding which cases to pursue. The case and its handling by the Department of Justice is currently being investigated by the United States Commission on Civil Rights. The Justice Department is also carrying out its own internal investigation into the handling of the case.

That was TWO guys who claimed to be Black Panthers in ONE precinct in one city in one state. And how many people did they really succeed in preventing to vote before they were removed? And even that story was debunked: http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/black-panthers-block-african-americans-

There is much more intimidation done at southern polls by white precinct workers from everything I've ever heard. And now you have all of these TP governors passing new voting rights laws that will most likely be thrown out in court when challenged. Talk about calling the kettle black.

The new black panthers are not affliated or recognized by the black panther party. First the original black panther party does not do anything to bring attention to themselves in this day and time because they don't trust the press. The things they do are community based. Are you a member of the KKK or neo-nazi party (national socialist party) because the innuedo your spreading is based on propaganda . As a kid living in California in the 1960's - 70's it was the black panthers that permantly put a lot of drug dealers and pimps out of business than the cops ever did. It wasn't the black panthers protecting drug dealers and saturating black neighborhoods with cocaine and herion. The U.S. Justice department is not going to waste their time with 3 actors portraying the new black panther party in the ghetto. They got there 15 minutes of fame thanks to those dumg asses at Fox fake news. If you want the truth about the black panther party than talk to original black panthers you never can tell the bus driver, doctor, or lawyer you walk by might have been a black panther back in the day.

Houghschulitie, how very strange. I just returned from the Uk. Almost everyone I met said how much they admired our President and hoped that he'd gain re-election. What they liked and admired was this; he has a way of presenting a message that comes across, is understandable, is not laced with "The Great We are". Actually, they wished that D. Cameron could be more like President Obama. Maybe I was travelling in the wrong group. I could say that but I also visited friends in France who felt the same way. Where were you?

From what we've seen from Cain, I'll bet everyone of his business successes was due to someone else & the Good Old Boys Club. I mean, the Herman Cain we see couldn't be put in charge of squat

He was on the Federal Reserve? There you go, start looking into what he did there & you'll clean up one part of the Federal Reserve

Just like W - he would never have been in business if it was left to him and he'd never have been in politics if not for H.W. I like a President with a mind of his own.

The likes of Herman Cain, Alan Keyes ... even Clarence Thomas if he were running, are proof positive blacks don't vote for anyone for president just because he is black.

Herman isn't going to take the black vote, but I doubt Obama's numbers will be as good as last time, either. He's not the first black president anymore- just another politician.

He will just be the first black president to be re-elected.

Cain is the poorest excuse for a human being, much less a presidential candidate regardless of him pulling out the race card.

Monica and Flowers did to at one time. Charicter does matter. I for one do not think that a man convicted of a felony (obstruction of justice and perjury in a civil right tria) is qualified to be president. I don't understand how Bill Clinton is not qualified to practice law, but he is qualified to make law.

Your not running to be a figure head that collects a pay-check, regardless of what you think Obama is doing. That's not the job. You are not qualified for anything close to that. My guess is that you got to where you are today by insulting the right people. The republicans prove everyday that they hate Obama more than they love this country.

Since you can't see beyond your own prejudices, you can only lash out at Republicans, even though our ballooning deficit has been caused by your president, Harry Reid, and Nanpo.
