“In remaining aloof from the special deficit committee in Congress even as it collapsed on Monday, President Obama showed his calculation more clearly than ever before: Republicans will never agree to raise taxes on the wealthy to balance any spending cuts, so let the voters decide,” the New York Times writes.
“President Obama will head to New Hampshire to lobby for a payroll tax cut extension Tuesday — the same day his GOP rivals will be in Washington and less than 24 hours after the supercommittee announced its failure to reach a deal,” The Hill reports. “The White House brushed off suggestions the president’s trip to the Granite State, which holds the nation’s first presidential primary in seven weeks, was being made with an eye toward 2012.”
Reuters writes, “President Barack Obama will challenge the Congress to preserve an expiring payroll tax cut on Tuesday as he travels to New Hampshire to seize the initiative in the wake of a collapsed effort to reduce the nation's budget deficit.”

"Republicans will never agree to raise taxes on the wealthy to balance any spending cuts, so let the voters decide,” the New York Times writes."
What spending cuts? The Dems, the Party of Government, want to spend us into oblivion. They never agreed to any cuts in entitlements!
The failed President needs a phony issue to run on. Anything to deflect from his disastrous stewardship of the economy.
Bob you need to be a little better informed. The Democrats offered cuts to entitlements if the tea people GOP republicans would agree to revenue increases. They said no to revenue increases as they bowed to their lord Grover. See Bob you're either intentionally misleading (lying) or you're not vary well informed.
Bob,
Dems have already agreed to $844 billion in spending cuts in the last 11 months without any new taxes. Now the Republicans want another 1.2 trillion in cuts with no tax increases. Every study by groups, gangs and commissions have said that a balanced approach is needed.
Where is the balance Bob??
Bob,
As Mo pointed out you are either purposefully ignorant (ignoring facts to the contrary of your blather) or you are simply lying. From your previous posts I'd guess it's a heady mixture of both.
To help you with the first part (the ignorance part) some recent history is in order. Remember the debt ceiling conversations in July of 2011? I'm not sure Fux News (rhymes with "sucks") spoke much about it other than to say that Obama and all those liberals are trying to spend your great, great grandchildren's money. Well, near the end of those negotiations that ultimately crated and made way for the ridiculous idea of a 'super committee', President Barack Obama offered what was deemed by the media as a "grand bargain" that the Crier of the House rejected. Here's a quote from one of the media sources at the time that reported on the offer:
Obama had proposed to Republicans a "grand bargain" that accomplished a host of individual things that are unpopular on their own, but that just might pass as a huge package jammed through Congress with default looming. Obama offered to put Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid cuts on the table in exchange for a tax hike of roughly $100 billion per year over 10 years. Meanwhile, government spending would be cut by roughly three times that amount. It's no small irony that the party's dogmatic opposition to tax increases is costing the GOP its best opportunity to roll back social programs it has long targeted. (Emphasis added.) By the way, even reports of such an offer sent President Obama's constituents into fits, but he knew that he had to offer something as a compromise. But Blubbering Boehner couldn't see fit to recommend the deal to his constituents because the millionaire and billionaire handlers would have been outraged at not getting what they paid for in the previous election.
Also Bob, were you watching the Republican debates on August 11 when Bret Baier of Faux (rhymes with "blow") News if they had a credible deal to reduce the deficit at a 10:1 ratio (meaning $10 in entitlement spending cuts for every $1 of increased tax revenue) would they walk away from the deal? Every single Republican presidential contender stated that they would walk away from the deal!! So don't come on here asking about what entitlement cuts when your cast of clowns rejected a 10:1 deal because they've got their heads so far up Grover Norquist they can give him a visual polyp check.
What is priceless about those dolts' answer was that in March - five months prior, Republicans on the Joint Economic Committee released a report on deficit reduction. In it, House GOP officials outlined their ideal cuts-to-revenue ratio, and concluded that “successful” attempts at deficit reduction meet this goal: “85% spending cuts and 15% revenue increases.” Roughly speaking, that’s about a 5-to-1 ratio in Republicans’ favor — and this is what GOP officials characterized as their ideal earlier this year.
So Bob, you can have your opinion. That's your right. You can't have your own facts. That's just wrong.
Yes, Bob, What spending cuts? The Teapublicans are trying to squirm out of spending cuts on defense. How about tax cuts? Why don't they like the payroll tax cuts? Oh let me guess, because these types of cut actually helps the economy.
First Timer-2008095-- Excellent recap. The DNC should air video of the candidates all raising their hands against a 10 to 1 balanced approach, over and over as we approach the 2012 election.
Bob failed to notice the part in bold. But then Bob and his ilk cannot be swayed with reason or facts, because this faction in our country are low-information voters, gullible, simpletons who will always fall for right-wing bumper sticker propaganda.
A good example is Ervin Cohen's post below. Wow, just wow.
Bob right on brother!
Obombo and the liberals are hypocrites. cut the payroll tax then raise taxes
on business people then spend more and more and give more bailouts to
green companies that don't work cause nobody wants this crap then to wall
street who helped him get elected then to Nancy Pelosi's brother in law then
free college and housing loans then more stimulus spending and on and on!
he'd rather cut defense spending just when anothe terrorist is arrested in
new york? and social security and medicare for those of us who put into it
to give to the lazy ass protesters and others sitting on their ass while the
hard working middle americans get screwed and he calls lazy! how any
normal person can believe this man is doing the right things is insane!
How anyone can read your drivel without busting a gut in laughter is amazing. How does one person become so mis-informed?
The terrorist had been under observation for over a year and deemed harmless - that is until Bloomberg needed something to distract NY'ers from his actions against OWS. Then the harmless halfwit becomes number one on the terrorist list?
Raising taxes on business people? Obama wants to raise taxes on millionaires, and most business people are NOT millionaires. But Obama DOES want to close loopholes for corporations making billions in profit but PAYING ZERO TAXES.
Your paying medicare for those protesters was exactly the point of Obamacare. Make everyone pay something towards healthcare insurance (medicare) since they are already using it for free. Don't you get it? Obamacare is trying to get rid of the freeloaders by making them pay towards a medicare type coverage.
Teapublicans offered $3 billion in revenue by ending cherry-picked tax credits, while proposing to make the Bush tax cuts permanent.
You get your panties in a wad about cutting taxes and raising taxes (some work, some don't--that's why this is going on), but you completely ignore the craziness of raising $3 billion in revenue, which becomes completely meaningless because extending tax cuts indefinitely, especially for the rich would result in trillions of new debt.
Voting is a responsiblity, not just a privalege. That means being an educated and informed citizen. Maybe you should stay home on election day and study instead.
Typical blind Republican double standards.... again.
It is this type of myopic view that will cause the "trigger" reductions in our defense budget; Repubs insisted on it as part of their hostage taking of government funding and NOW realize their error and want to get a do over....
Naw - you made your bed, now lay in it.
Same type tunnel vision in the super committee matter.
VOTERS DO SEE and will decide 11/12 on THAT record. Bye-bye teanuts!
You would think that they would eventually catch on and "get it."
yeah yeah ...its all the repubs or tea party or grover or well u get the idea...never obamas ...hes done.. plain and simple and he knows it !!! with the country in the shape its in when will he own up to childish behavior..i for one am tired of the blame game no matter who is at fault. blaming others for your failures is never good policy but its the obama way...hey the buck stops here... remember?
