NASHUA, N.H. -- Newt Gingrich declared that the congressional "Super Committee's collapse" would be "good for America."
"I think it's going to fail,” Gingrich said at a campaign stop at Rivier College. “And I think it should fail, because it's exactly wrong.”
Today is considered the final day for Democrats and Republicans to agree on a plan that would need pass before Thanksgiving in order to avoid automatic spending cuts to Defense and social programs.
"It's not that Washington is inherently gridlocked,” the former Speaker contended. “It is that the current players are behaving in the current way are inherently gridlocked. It's partially president's fault, partially Congress's fault, but it's a mess.”
He added, "They were trying to break out of the mess by being, in my judgment, even dumber -- that is creating a committee of 12 picked by the political leadership to magically get in a room to come up something that 535 couldn't solve. It's profoundly the wrong direction.... It's a major reason I am running for president.”
As for what he would propose if he were in office, Gingrich was unclear. He said he encourages every subcommittee to revisit their budgets and cut spending, and he does not support repealing the Bush tax cuts.
"I'm in favor of not raising any taxes on an economy that has 9% unemployment," he said. "The reason is simple -- we know how to create jobs."
Gingrich, whose campaign team quit on him months ago and was low on resources, has ridden his debate performances -- and benefited from the stumbles of rivals -- to higher poll numbers both nationally and in New Hampshire. Today, he attempted to distinguish himself from the rest of the GOP field and make a general-election argument focused on those debate performances.
"If you stop and ask yourself, 'It's October of 2012, we get to the debates -- who do you want to have debate Obama to draw clarity between the various lies he will be telling and the truth?'” Gingrich said. “And I think most people end up thinking I'm a better debater than my friends are.”
Gingrich also slammed Obama on spending and leadership, calling his administration "a 16-year-old with the first credit-card kind of problem."
On immigration, Gingrich quipped, "FedEx and UPS track 24 million packages…. They allow you to track them at no extra cost. The federal government cannot currently find a million people," he said to laughter. "FedEx and UPS can track packages while they're moving; the federal government can't find people when they're sitting still! My policy is send everybody a package."

I think Newt summed it all up when he was asked about the Occupy Wall street movement, ' get a job and take a bath', all he left out was 'let them eat cake'.
U.S. Representative (now Senator) Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) told The New Yorker:
DeMint is the crisis creator because fewer people have jobs to pay taxes and the rich don't want to and the middle class can not carry the whole burden. Who is the most dependent of the government? The rich! Who expects the most? The rich! Who votes themselves more benefits? The rich! They buy the representatives. Who is working? The middle class. Who does DeMint think should pay for government? The Middle Class. Take social secuirty, all federal retirement money, and medicare out the budget and let's have another talk Mr. DeMint.
The main thing the tax code has been doing is concentrating more wealth in the highest income levels and taxing it less that ever before. That means all the rest of us are getting taxed at disproportionately higher rates.
The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 expanded the earned income tax credit and Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 created a $500 per-child tax credit for families earning less than $110,000. These bills also came with lots of perks for the rich too.
In 1990, there were 23.8 million nonpayers, but as a result of these legislative changes, 2000 arrived with 32.5 million nonpayers. That was a percentage increase of 36 percent while the total number of tax filers in the nation grew by only 13 percent.
If the Republicans are losing constituents its because they would rather steer taxpayer dollars to the wealthy in return for funding their re-election campaigns while average Americans are losing income and purchasing power.
DeMint is an embarassment to S.C. and to the Senate. He is one of those old time bigots who see nothing of value in looking out for those who are in need. He hasn't brought one red cent of federal money home to his state all the while trying to promote his own stature nationwide. Of course he's hated and disliked by just about all of his colleagues in the Senate to include members of the Bagger party. On top of that he's an idiot!!!!!
Seriously...
Are you folks saying that you actually believe the Super-committee was a good idea?
I guess nobody believes in the constitution anymore.
I've got an idea, why don't we swallow everything we hear from MSNBC hook, line and sinker and evolve to a special utopia where all needs are taken care of. Sure, some of us will probably end up in the "outer party," but there will be hope that we or our children may be "Inner party" material. But everyone will still be equal, especially the happy little proles.
Sure it is Newt. Again we get to show the world we can not reach any kind of compromise. You will see how tickled everyone is by looking at todays Stocket Market. Our lack of any decissions here affects the whole world, not only us.
"I'm in favor of not raising any taxes on an economy that has 9% unemployment," he said. "The reason is simple -- we know how to create jobs."
Looks good on paper unless the paper you are looking at is the actual result of this policy.
It doesn't matter if we increase revenue by 500%. Congress will still find a way to spend it and make it look legit.
If you look at the expenditures, they take a steep rise in 2006 when the democrats took control of both houses. I'm no Bush apologist, but the numbers tell us that the peak monthly spending during the Bush administration due to the wars is far smaller than the monthly expenditure by the Obama administration.
There is much more at play here than the Keynesian economists are willing to tell us.
Newt will flip-flop tomorrow...
The Newt, like most Republican leaders, is either disingenous or stupid. We know from economic theory that DEMAND drives an economy and funneling money to the wealthy does not grow an economy. We also know from over 10 years of emperical data (ie. Bush Tax Cuts) that funneling money to the wealthy does not grow the economy. It is fortunate for people like the Koch Brothers that most people who vote Republican are easily manipulated and respresent the lower half of the IQ spectrum.
Roger,
He's disingenuously stupid...
Do you realize Mr. Davie that you are wrong when add in all of the things the Bush administration didn't add to the budget. That's 400 billion dollar a year war in iraq, 400 billion dollar a year war in Afghanistan, 400 billion dollar a year tax cut and a if not mistaken 200 billion add on in Medicare part D. Now let's see the president has been in Office for 3 of those years right and has run up 5 trillion in deficit spending do the math!!!! We're talking more then half his budget is defense and medicare, and bush tax cuts. So how people still try to say this is the most free spending liberal there is take another look.
I have done the math. If i add, to the reported spending, your 1.4 Trillion dollars in extra spending over EIGHT years, it does not even come close to the 5 TRILLION dollars in DEFICIT spending over THREE years. Three years!
YOU do the math.
"Now let's see the president has been in Office for 3 of those years right and has run up 5 trillion in deficit spending do the math!!!"
HOW are you missing this? 5 trillion in deficit spending over only 3 years (more accurately, this was the sum after 2 years).
What is it going to be if he's allowed an 8 year run? 20 Trillion? When is it going to stop?
"More taxes!" they say. We could give them all the tax revenue they could stomach and they'd still find a way to spend it all.
The Keynesian model has never, nor will it ever, work.
Newt is a failure..the tea tards are failures...actually the voters are failures for voting these anti americans into congress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...and what would you consider a pro-American?
FED EX and UPS packages are in a controlled environment where they get scanned as they get transported through their systems and those packages are stored in a controlled environment while standing still. Does Newt want all Americans tracked as they move so we can sort out the illegals and kept in locked controlled environments when they are standing still?
And the stimulus bill signed into law by W. Bush and administred by Obama has fail so badly that the more than half a million jobs we were loosing every month has stopped. It has failed so badly that everyone's stock is worst off and still loosing at the same rate of loss they were at the end of the W. Bush Administration. Democrat's failed banking regulation is preventing banks from re-organizing our banking transactions so that they can maximize their overdraft fee profits. What a failure! Really, Republicans?!?!?
Exactly, why do I agree with Gingrich on this one. That is what I stated on here.
Mr. Davie: What is it about unfunded wars you don't understand?
Sandy, what is is about unrestrained spending with no regard for income really mean to you?
Wars? Fine. Tax cuts. Okay. The deficit is far worse off since Obama's been in office. Bush spent. Bush even spent off the record. Obama spent more than Bush in either case.
You cannot borrow and spend your way out of debt, that is illogical.
Obama had to spend to cover the unpaid for mess that Bush/Cheney left behind: 2 wars, big pharma, tax cuts.
Think clearly about the role of the super committee! One, two, three. Have you figured it out yet?
It was formed at the behest of Boehner and company to make it look like they were doing something constructive. The president and the Democrats went along for the ride knowing that it would blowup in Boehner's face, which is exactly what happened. The president beats them at every turn in strategizing. Blindly following ideology and the dictates of Norquist will always lead to disaster for the bagger party.
newt=repugnant
I have the perfect answer to the woes of the "Super Committee."
All the Dems/Libs can move to Greece/Italy/Portugal/Spain..... ( since liberals believe in HIGH taxes and increased spending.)
They can still get there in time for the riots in the streets that take place every day.
U.S. Debt problem Solved !
Actually, they're rioting because of the massive budget cuts that Greece has agreed to as terms of accepting loans to pay down their debt.
Right, and if they hadn't tried to broker this deal and when the inevitable followed and the government was unable to pay them their wages and entitlements because it has no money, I'm sure they'd just sit quietly in their living rooms and say the Greek equivalent of "Shucks. What now?"
Leona are you on social security?
I doubt she is C-1664563.
Even if so, though, she at least paid more into it than she's getting back. Sad but true.
Newt is dumber than a box of rocks and in denial if he thinks his party knows how to create jobs. If that was the case, where are they? The man is a tool.
If he's dumber than a box of rocks, what does that make the President? If they went head to head in a debate about issues (not personal digging, mind you), Newt would mop the floor with Obama. The only way the President would have a chance is if he had an ear bud with a live feed to his most quick-witted cronies. Don't you remember? That guy is horrible off the teleprompter. Newt won't use one.
I'm not even voting for Newt (unless he ends up candidate -- I'd even take a screwball like Dukakis over Obama...DUKAKIS, Sheila -- POTUS is THAT bad right now), but compared to Obama, he's James freakin' Madison.
Hey Mr Davie I see your boy Bush manged to kill thousands of American soldiers for false reasons and failed to get OBL.. but maybe you did not realize that...
That's the best you've got? Come on. I believe you can do much better than that. You assume I'm a Bush man because I'm not an Obama man. I'm a Liberty man, but I'm also acutely aware of the sycophantic ranting of the lefties who attack people for a specific reason and ignore their purported prophet's dealings within the same area.
So I point out their ignorance, and suddenly I'm a "Bush man."
This is the same Us vs. Them mentality that everyone seems to hate and feed into all the time.
So you see no paralles in in what yuo'r saying?
Well the Greeks really stepped in it because of the same mortgage bundling debt-swap derivative investing that crashed our economy.
The total amount of debt they ran up was about $174B. The breakdown of this huge debt is roughly into 37% owed by the government, 8% by Greek banks and 55% owed by the non-bank private sector.
So yeah due to corruption in the government, they used fancy accounting to hide their annual deficits so they could stay in the Eurozone. But, the biggest proportion is the accumulation of debt from businesses and middle class consumers – those with most access to credit from greedy lenders.
Sound familiar?
Oh yes Newt is so correct in rejoicing at yet another failure... Is there anyone on this board that does not understand the entire Republican party is rooting for economic failure and failure abroad so they can ride the resulting chaos back to power? Anyone still unable to see that? If so see a doctor immediately and tell him you are having trouble telling the difference between reality and fantasy!
No, he's correct in pointing out that it should have failed because it was a bad idea and unconstitutional in the first place.
If anyone wants to ride the Chaos it's the current administration. That's exactly how they can come to power, let the occupation get out of hand and then they can step in and stop the pain by any means. No matter whether or not it is unconstitutional. Did you happen to notice that the only violent crack-downs seem to be in cities where the mayor is a Democrat? Los Angeles, New York, Oakland...
Bet the thought never crossed your mind before now, did it?
You are all idiots. I only vote republican because it is the lessor of two evils. I beleive in working for what you get. DEMs want to give it all away. The "poor". What a joke. Not a one of the poor goes without a smart phone, or xbox, or free health care and a huge list of other things. All social services should be cut by 50%.
Legalize pot. That will bring in billions in taxes from the pitiful poor. Just like cigarette taxes do. Then they will be stoned to find wall street.
Thank you for the update on the fabulous 15, interesting reading, and once again, very little or nothing at all about reinvigorating manufacturing in the US. No tarrifs imposed, no new duties on imports and no mention of playing the game like China plays the game. No manufacturing jobs means zero manufacturing and the only jobs are in the electronics and paper industries who only provide services.
As far as the fat boy goes, he is just that, fat rich boy making behind the scenes deals that enrich his company, then denies that he GOPers can put up with your B---sh-- and flip flops, your adultery, your superior debating skills, which by the way has nothing to do with governing or leadng, it simply means that you enjoy the argument and not the resolution.
Fat rich boy Newt and his diamonds are foever wife, wow what a disgrace that couple would be in the White House, where the likes of Abraham Lincolnd and FDR resided and behaved with propriety, led the country while wone was assasinated for listening to his heart and re-reading the Declaration of Independence, and the other, well four terms, defeating a depression, defeating Germany and Japan, installing a stewardship form of government for all the people, well he just wore out and died. I see old GW bush is just busy making money delivering meaningless speeches at 60k a speech. Nice people the Republicans.
"... and once again, very little or nothing at all about reinvigorating manufacturing in the US. No tarrifs imposed, no new duties on imports and no mention of playing the game like China plays the game. Well said. This is one of the first things I've seen on here with some true merit. You kind of lost me at the end with your rant, but the top paragraph is 100% spot on.
Manufacturing (especially electronics) should never have gone to China. We need to bring that back here so that design AND manufacture is in-house. That will keep our ingenuity moving forward. We need to be tougher with China, as they have been getting a free-ride. They are no longer "third world" and should not be treated as such (hope they never find out my real identity, or my Visa will be denied for sure for saying that). Plus we don't want to keep feeding too much money to a society that has a 10 to 1 ratio of men to women.
U know its funny, Demos and Repubs on here all kinda agree that we need to do those things and yet our politicians can not seem to grasp any of those ideas.
But I think the first small step is getting Obama to keep his promise to put up a fence or barrier around our borders. He flip flopped on this and is going after the states trying to protect themselves. ITS WORKING, Alabama's unemployment rate has dropped since illegals fled the state after their illegals law was passed. ITS WORKING. Its a small step, but the right one.
We have been told for years that the illegals are only doing the jobs we wont do and after you hear if so long you actually believe it. Next thing you know we will actually believe that companies had to send their manufacturing overseas so they could stay in business.
Yes you are definately a product of the Texas educational system.
Just remember this folks..the Republican party is the party of the very richest few and the only way they can sell their feed-the-rich-screw-the-middle class is by spreading hate and lies.
I could say more but at this point if anyone cannot see their history of a vindictiveness then there is nothing more I can say..
Kool-Aide! It's not just for Jonestown anymore!
idiot. You dont think those fat cat dems in congress are for anything but themselves do you? Its every man for himself at thise stage in history.
Gingrich (we call him "Grinch") may be a skillful debater, but I've yet to hear any new or great ideas from him. Ability to debate does not mean one has the ability to lead. Being quick with a clever comeback does not mean one has workable strategies to improve our economy. Sure, he is clever, but that does not mean he has the answers our nation needs.
I see what you did there with that play on names...
At least he's throwing ideas out there. Ideas that get shot down can be catalysts for different ideas that grow. No ideas begets nothing at all.
Maybe he's not the answer. One thing I DO know, the current administration is NOT the answer. 4 more years of this will not lead to healing.
He's clever enough to make millions while being a lobbyist for Freddie and others while telling the nonthinkers in the bagger party that he wasn't.He was clever enough to impeach President Clinton for extra martial affairs while he was guilty of the same sin himself. Yeah he's clever alright.
Just look at the Eurozone. We're next if this keeps up. We need to take responsibility for ourselves and stop looking to the government to take care of us.
Newt Gingrich stands as a shining example of honesty, integrity and family values. Our kids should emulate him. Especially when they read his history. Right? What a piece of work! A pig is a pig.
