Obama agenda: Boos at Homestead

“Michelle Obama yesterday got a mixed reception at NASCAR’s season finale in Homestead, Fla. — where the drivers applauded her, but the crowd booed,” the New York Post writes. She was there with Vice President Joe Biden’s wife, Jill, to honor the military. They got a standing ovation when Obama told the drivers in a prerace speech that NASCAR has been ‘amazing in terms of its support, not just today but every day, for military families.’ But later, when the first lady announced to the drivers, ‘Gentlemen, start your engines,’ fans booed.”

The Hill also picks up on it: “First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, were booed Sunday as they served as ceremonial Grand Marshals before the start of the Ford 400 NASCAR race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida. The pair was at the NASCAR event to promote the Joining Forces initiative, a program championed by the First Lady to help veterans returning home from wars in the Middle East.”

I guess if they boo our men and women in the armed services, then booing the First Lady is okay to them! Hate has no bounds!! Tea-Party/Republicans hit a new low!!

I've never understood this compulsion of watching cars drive around and around and around a track, burning up thousands of gallons of gas and polluting the atmosphere--for what?

Maybe if those spectators took a walk in the woods and rid their heads of fumes they would be able to think clearly.

Tommy,

I don't think they booed the military family. I guess when you get involved in the political spot light and people don't agree with their views, some will get booed and some won't. Free speech is awesome!!

Seattle Sue,

It's shameful for someone to boo for that gay Soldier, but I was called a POS and a murderer in Casper, Wyoming at the Holiday Inn for serving 20 years. News flash, it doesn't only happen on one side.

Mrs Bush was never booed by the other side at any other time. In spite of her husband starting two wars with one that claimed over 5000 American lives and cost us over $1trillion and has since had virtually all its rationales discredited.

Sorry, but the obama's and most of the left have done nothing except make fun of the sport of NASCAR and it's fan's in the past. Plus the interview they gave during the race, they said they were fans now and love the support for our troops that NASCAR and its fans give.

Let's keep it simple. No Obama = no big 3 bailout = No American cars to watch go in a circle. You should be kissing his azz yet you can't get your head out of yours.

Could someone explain exactly why these people were booing. And please don't use the cowardly explanation someone used this morning, "We weren't booing her, we were booing what the administration stands for." They were standing for the soldiers, you idiot. This is especially hypocritical for a group of people who claim to be soooo patriotic. Secondly, if it wasn't for this administration there would be no American car engines to start and watch go around in a circle while you hoot and holler. If you are going to boo be brave enough to admit the real reason because it surely isn't related in the least in policy or common sense.

When people watch a particular news outlet or a particular radio host that bashes the Obamas daily, it is no surprise that they have a Pavlov response and boo. People need to be responsible for finding reliable sources for their news.

You people no nothing of NASCAR and the amazing work they do in supporting our troops and countless charities. You joke about them just going in circles. They have been labeled as redneck trash, hillbilly inbreeds, etc........ Mrs. Biden praised them for their support for our troops and how much she was impressed by the fans. But you can't make fun of a group of good people for so long and expect all of them to clap for obama/Biden. The off the cuff remarks over the last couple of years has made it very hard for them to receive standing ovations. You think she is the Queen and above any reproach.

This just show the education level of most NASCAR fans. But you have to realize they were in South FL. Besides they were probably all drunk by the start of the race.

Apparently you people forget that the first lady is married to the rascal that is responsible for the mess our country is in. He is also responsible for the deaths of so many of our young soldiers that are still fighting wars that doesn't involve our country and is no threat to our country.

As far as the cars running around a track wasting gas, you apparently have failed to consider that we are discussing a woman that has traveled worldwide on vacations with her family and friends at our expense, wasting more gas than we could probably imagine, while most of the country are struggling just to be able to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table for their families. While many go hungry she, her family and friends are living the life of luxury and eating like royalty, which they are NOT.

All I have to say regarding the inconsideration she has shown us and our country is, Boo, Boo, Boo. Gentlemen, start your engines.

      Amy B. Portland, ME

Obama has driven our country so far into debt that our children and grandchildren will be paying for his excessive and wasteful spending.

Was it really necessary for him to order two very expensive buses that was built in Canada (not the U.S. of A.) when our country was already broke? The first lady has already cost us more than ten million dollars just vacationing with her friends, that is not including all the vacations the Obama has wasted OUR money on.

No, Mrs. Laura Bush would not be booed in Maine or any other state, she is a true lady that has earned the utmost respect from the citizens of our country. Not only is she gracious and lovely, she and President Bush have shown great concern and love for our country, our military and the citizens of our country and continue to do so.

Obama and Michelle have shown disrespect and lack of concern for anyone but themselves and their desires. Obama has done everything he could possibly do to destroy our great nation. I guess that is what we should expect from a Muslim that has never been anything but a mere community organizer in Chicago.

But you will and have been useful to the large corporations and the wealthy that continue to want and has received tax cuts the past ten years at the expense of the rest of the country and our deficits!

I'd like to quote Mel Brooks when his character as Louis XVI was told that the peasants were revolting, he replied, "Yes, they most certainly are." On a more serious note, the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin and Beck have brought both a certain coarseness and acceptable ignorance to our political discourse. They are yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. It wasn't that long ago that in defamation law calling someone a communist was treated the same as calling a woman a whore. I remember in the late 50's when VP Nixon was on a good will trip to Latin America, that we as Americans were shocked that his motorcade was egged and spat upon. Part of not becoming a mob is realizing that apparent education and civility aren't guarantees to prevent it. Just look at Germany in the '30's. We in the US have no special immunity or magic vaccine.
