Republican presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., greets audience members Saturday after the Thanksgiving Family Forum sponsored by The Family Leader in Des Moines, Iowa.
By NBC's James Novogrod and Carrie Dann
Although the Family Leader Thanksgiving forum held on Saturday night had far less inter-candidate fireworks than a typical Turkey Day family reunion, Rep. Michele Bachmann launched an attack even before the candidates walked off stage.
The Bachmann campaign sent an email skewering the newly surging Newt Gingrich’s record on abortion.
“Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has failed to uphold a consistently pro-life stance throughout his career in public life,” the email reads. Team Bachmann accuses Gingrich of being "open to watering down the Republican Party's commitment to the inalienable right to life."
The candidate told reporters that she only intends to draw a contrast with other candidates' "surprises."
"What we're trying to do is underscore again the fact that there are differences in the candidates and you won't find surprises with me," she said.
Asked after the forum to comment, Gingrich appeared incredulous.
"I have no idea what she's talking about," he said, later adding "I'm not going to comment randomly on emails I haven't read."
The attack from Bachmann is the second time this week that she has targeted Gingrich. She honed in on reports about his consulting for Freddie Mac earlier this week, telling voters she "wasn't shilling" for the mortgage giant before the financial crisis.

Bachman going after Mr. Samsonite I'm pro choice. Romney care talking about Obama care Ok one horse is brown and the other horse is brown.
"the Republican Party's commitment to the inalienable right to life."
Don't you just love comments like this from the Wicked Witch of the West Bachmann? So if you agree with everything else on the Republican platform but don't support the anti-abortion beliefs of Michele Bachmann, you can't be a Republican. I guess she means that you have to vote for the Democrats! Keep up the good work Michele, we Democrats love your efforts to get more folks to vote for our side.
DO not vote for baby murderers, period. Do not vote for those who support homosexuality, period.
well that leaves out most GOP/TP....just check airport men's rooms
Republicans -- they're "pro life" yet they cheer executions, cheer when people die for lack of health insurance and cheery when Mexicans die.
If a child is born with too many deformity then it is OK for the doctor to say let it die, just as long as it got born. If a child got raped she must give birth to that child. If a woman might die as a result of child birth she get no choice. Morality or tyranny? Support murder of gays in Africa what a really nice Christian thing to do.
there is nothing "christ" like about today's GOP/TP
Well I nominate James Dobson as her running mate, we can revert to coat hangers for women wanting abortions, we can put women back in the home where they belong, we can exterminate the gay vermons, everyone can recite a prayer while a teacher is going over a calculus problem and we can all love in the name of Jesus Christ, and use HIS name to say it is God's will and we will all unconditionally love one another!
This wretched b1tch has nothing to say unless she is denigrating someone else's character.
She will be gone by Iowa and then can go back to a more noble pursuit and that is taking care of Minnesota of which was her original calling before the T-Poops diverted her calling. Along with them wasting precious time trying to figure out our debt ceiling.
Bachman is a Oral Roberts Groupie Super Welfare Queen, the only thing lower is Newt who wrote 22 bad checks on the USA, actually, the taxpayers. Top Secretly gave himself and Congress a Raise.
"Stupidity is the only sin"--Oscar Wilde. Can cover entire Bachmann candidacy with that one.
The Earth is overpopulated - Society and the Environment can't take the strain. Abortion is a good thing for the World and our future.
I think we're witnessing a real, textbook, genuine mental breakdown. She CANNOT actually be as crazy as she seems. No one could. Her eyes frighten me and her jabbering is scary, too. Someone get her some Thorazine and a cute little (pink?) straitjacket.
Old stances on topics like abortion, homosexuality and politics need to be revamped with a renewed understanding of what is happening in today's world.
Sorry, I guess I'm confused. Can anyone tell me when this woman hasn't been on the offensive? Or been offensive, for that matter. Like a pit bull but not as bright.
It boggles the mind to think "these" type of people are running for president! One would think the most important issue is abortion, which it isn't--it's the economy!! As an independent, just love all these TeaPublicans adopting a Catholic point of view and policy on the life issue. Just wait till those Bible-Thumpers in the Bible Belt realize they are supporting a Papist position; they'll have apoplexy.
Newt is a wonderful standbearer for his party. Divorced about 2-3 times, had numerous affairs (I could see it, if he was Bill Clinton), then decides to become a Catholic and hide behind the Bishops. What a hypocrite and ultra-conservative Catholics praise him. WHY?
There are two intelligent candidates but one (Willard) is acting like the village fool just to garner conservative votes. Huntsman has a brain and understands the big picture, but he can't break through the Know-Nothings that control the party.
I get so fed up with the abortion issue. Overturn Roe v. Wade. Go ahead. Then, abortion goes back to the states - at which point it might become illegal in a couple of Southern states - only to be reverted back in the near future.
It's just a meaningless, ideological talking point that repubs use on the weak-minded.
Could not agree more. These are the same people who--as was pointed out--cheer executions, cheer people dying without medical insurance, but think nothing of unleashing bombs on civilians, support Israelis using cluster bombs on Palestinians and other mayhem. Guess the definition of "pro-life" changes based on the situation. You know these folks are desperate when they try to pass a law that practically recognizes "sperm and eggs" as people.
Guess these religious knuckle-draggers will go after 13 year-old boys who can't control their "hormones"!! who is going to monitor for "nocturnal emissions"?????
didn't you know...the sanctity of life ends at birth.
Oh, for crying out loud! First Palin now Bachmann! It is SO obvious that the Republicans have no intention of running a viable female for the office of president. The same can be said for minorities; with the information available for vetting candidates I find it hard to believe that Cain's little problems weren't well known to the RNC. It's as if they put Bachmann & Cain in the mix to prove that they are diversified knowing full well that those candidates will be discredited.
Bachmann is doing more to tear the Republican party to shreads that all the Democrats combined. Most people would accept a strong, confident woman as a leader, but very few want one that is whiney, b!tchy and deceitful.
I have a better chance of being president than Michelle Bachmann so whatever she says is inconsequential and should be ignored.
Bachman is good for one thing only now. Material for SNL. As to why they do not take advantage more often of her ignorance is beyond me.
Bachmann sort of reminds me of Ann Coulter, minus the adams apple of course.
Good point! Always wondered if Ann Coulter is a product of sexual reassignment surgery....just asking.

Bachmann go away - you suck!
Yet another moderate stance by Gingrich- a conservative in rhetoric only. Legalized abortion is not pro-choice- it is birth control, pure and simple.
The point of conception is not the point at all. We all know what happens most of the time a woman becomes pregnant, thus necessitating an abortion. Abortion is baby killing- justifiable homicide by law perhaps, but baby killing nonetheless.
The decision to abort is less moral than the decision to keep the child. Pregnancy is a process and the pro-choice movement is a denial of life.
I know we can't get rid of abortions, but it doesn't deserve sanctity. We're keeping the rats from breeding. That's all.
Nope...GOP/TP keeps breeding with their siblings anyway.....what are you gonna do?
It's simply moggles the mind when you consider that so many republicans thought that John McCain was a candidate that they had to "hold their nose" and vote for in 2008.
How can one party have so many candidates and still not have a single good one?
I agree with many other post about abortion interference.
Why should we get involved with abortion and a woman's decisions about her body?
Only religion of one sort or another could be this invasive on this topic.
Many countries in the east are big on religious values, how about - Oh well.
WHY DON'T WE THE PEOPLE address the real problem , cut out the name calling ,blame gaming and finger pointing , ( u- tube videos ) DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH , The AGENDA - GRINDING AMERICA DOWN / WHO CONTROLS THE CHIDREN ( schools dumb down kids deliberately ) Americans ALL Americans have been sheep following along to their own slaughter
