Bachmann goes after Gingrich on his abortion record

Republican presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., greets audience members Saturday after the Thanksgiving Family Forum sponsored by The Family Leader in Des Moines, Iowa.

Although the Family Leader Thanksgiving forum held on Saturday night had far less inter-candidate fireworks than a typical Turkey Day family reunion, Rep. Michele Bachmann launched an attack even before the candidates walked off stage.

The Bachmann campaign sent an email skewering the newly surging Newt Gingrich’s record on abortion.

“Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has failed to uphold a consistently pro-life stance throughout his career in public life,” the email reads. Team Bachmann accuses Gingrich of being "open to watering down the Republican Party's commitment to the inalienable right to life."

The candidate told reporters that she only intends to draw a contrast with other candidates' "surprises."

"What we're trying to do is underscore again the fact that there are differences in the candidates and you won't find surprises with me," she said.

Asked after the forum to comment, Gingrich appeared incredulous.

"I have no idea what she's talking about," he said, later adding "I'm not going to comment randomly on emails I haven't read."

The attack from Bachmann is the second time this week that she has targeted Gingrich. She honed in on reports about his consulting for Freddie Mac earlier this week, telling voters she "wasn't shilling" for the mortgage giant before the financial crisis.

Anyone who leaves it to the STATES is not pro choice. Choice doesn't mean which government law over-rides a woman's right to her constiutitonal protections.

Great, here we go again.

The organized crime family also known as the Republican party trots out the abortion issue near election time. Yet, through every election and subsequent term in office nothing ever changes. They use the issue only to get people to overlook all of their other shortcomings and cast a vote for something they are being told the candidate will work to correct. The only problem is that the Republican candidate has absolutely no intention of even bringing up the abortion issue let alone doing anything about it once the election has been decided.

There is one way to tell if a Republican candidate is lying. Check to see if his/her lips are moving. If they are, they are lying.

Voting should be easy the next election, just like driving a car: D to go forward and R to go backward.

In the midst of a huge world-wide economic crisis, social issues are not nearly as important, and are nothing more than a smoke-screen/distraction from the really vital issues. Ms. Bachmann needs to find something of more substance to harp on during this tumultuous time we are living through.

Personally, I think that Mr. Cain and Gov. Perry should call it quits, followed by Spkr. Gingrich.........after all the rest of the skeletons fall out of the closet.

To give any credence or importance to what Bachmann has to say is like believing that Sarah Palin knows what she is talking about.

You betcha!

The right wing believes that life begins at conception and ends at birth. Goldwater must be spinning in his grave.

These Republican "candidates" are like a comedy show. I can't believe how incompetent they are and that there are no viable contenders. The voters of Minnesota should be ashamed of themselves putting this woman into office. Of course didn't they also put Jesse Ventura in office or was that Wisconsin??

Why is it so important to "These Particular GOPER Candidates" whether a woman has a baby or not?

Why do these people believe it is their business?

In all honesty, considering the economic and world view, when has having more babies became a solution?

She needs to get back to Congress and work until she gets voted out.

Actually she needs to quit there too, because her incompetence is dangerous.

Bachman at her usual tricks, why can't a candidate be both pro-life for themselves but pro- choice for everyone else? Such hypocrites, being you have to be pro death penalty. The GOP party has just gave in to many out there factions! Grover Norquist, being the worst faction, Never raise tax's under circumstance's, who in their right mind would sign a pledge like that? The whole GOP...

No Bachman is smart... she realizes that most of the GOP cares nothing about anything other than abortion, tax cuts, and bomb someone..... you get their votes, you get the GOP nomination... ask the average American where abortion stands on their list of needs.... zip, zero,zilch....
