Republican presidential candidate former House Speaker Newt Gingrich speaks during the Thanksgiving Family Forum sponsored by The Family Leader as former CEO of Godfathers Pizza Herman Cain looks on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
By NBC's Carrie Dann, Alex Moe, Andrew Rafferty and James Novogrod
DES MOINES, Iowa -- At an emotional two-hour forum focused as much on the candidate's personal and spiritual lives as on their policies, six Republican candidates spoke at length Saturday about their faith but skirted direct discussion of misconduct by either twice-divorced Newt Gingrich or Herman Cain, who has faced allegations of sexual harassment.
During the Des Moines forum sponsored by the Family Leader group and moderated by pollster Frank Luntz, Gingrich disclosed a time in the 1990s when he felt that he was "failing personally," even turning to the Alcoholics Anonymous handbook because he felt "truly hollow."
"I wasn't drinking but I had precisely the symptoms of somebody who was collapsing under this weight," he said after Luntz directed candidates to "bare your soul."
The former House speaker, who has previously disclosed that he was engaging in an extramarital affair with his current wife while prosecuting the Clinton impeachment, acknowledged Saturday that his struggles "required a great deal of pain."
"I've been very blessed. Callista and I have a wonderful marriage," he said, going on to describe his closeness to his children. "But all of that has required a great deal of pain, some of which I have caused others, which I regret deeply. All of which required having to go to God to seek both reconciliation but also to seek God's acceptance that I had to recognize how limited I was and how much I had to depend on Him."
Earlier in the forum, Gingrich won the biggest laugh of the night for telling Occupy Wall Street protesters to "go get a job right after you take a bath."
In a rare moment, Cain, who typically sticks to displays of humor and defiance on the campaign trail, choked up when talking about his wife, Gloria, and the struggle he faced with cancer.
When Cain received his diagnosis, he said, he told his wife "I can do this." She replied "WE can do this," he said of his wife of 42 years, who accompanied her husband to the forum for her first campaign appearance in Iowa this weekend.
Cain later struggled past tears in describing one consequence of his business success. "I didn't believe that I was home enough when my kids were growing up," he said.
The Atlanta businessman made no mention of at least four women who have accused him of sexual impropriety. He said Saturday that he believes he has experienced a "series of little failures rather than one great big disaster."
Also shedding tears Saturday was Rick Santorum, who delivered an emotional recounting of his disabled daughter's struggles for life. "I had seen her as less of a person because of her disability," the former Pennsylvania senator confessed when describing one moment when his daughter's life was in danger.
Rick Perry, telling a familiar story about the academic failures that prevented him from achieving his dream of becoming a veterinarian, smiled broadly when delivering a line that could perhaps also apply to the rocky start of his once soaring campaign.
"If you want to see God laugh, tell him your plans," Perry said.
The Texas governor related details of his humble biography, saying that his presence on the stage after growing up in near-poverty was "a stunning story of America." He discussed, as he did at a speech at Liberty University in September, a period of time when he felt "lost" and "too busy for God" before turning to Christ at age 27.
The unusual format -- with the six candidates seated around a table topped with Thanksgiving accoutrements -- allowed each candidate to offer lengthy responses to questions about gay marriage, abortion, morality, and the role of faith in public life.
While largely focused on the candidate's philosophical views, the candidates also discussed their view of the federal government through the prism of morality.
"The states have a right to be wrong," Rep. Ron Paul alleged, dovetailing on a back-and-forth he had with Gingrich about the meaning of "liberty." "The Constitution is a restriction on the federal government, not a restriction on the states."
Rep. Michele Bachmann spoke about her views of the spiritual nature of the oath of office, relating a story disputed by some historians that George Washington added the words "so help me God" and kissed the Bible upon delivering them. (The Bachmann campaign pushed back via Twitter on questions about the anecdote's veracity, citing author David McCullough.)
Bachmann also separately attacked Gingrich on his abortion record.
Republican frontrunner Gov. Mitt Romney, along with longshot Gov. John Huntsman, was notably absent from the Iowa forum, choosing instead to conduct a fiery town hall in New Hampshire. While the other candidates declined to take shots at the absent former Massachusetts governor, moderator Frank Luntz did take a dig at Romney, noting that he was not present to respond to critiques of the individual mandate for health care, an idea included in the plan he signed into law in 2006.
Romney’s absence was also noted by event organizer Bob Vander Plaats, who told reporters after the forum, “Romney was the only one who stiffed us.”
“I think that’s gone with his persona, in how he’s treating Iowa, which happens to be a swing state,” Vander Plaats added. “And he wants to win the presidency -- which tells me he lacks judgment.”

It's always God, God, God with this crowd. They use religion in any way they can to shore up their pathetic positions. They have no real compassion nor humanity as evidenced by their endorsement of torture, foreign wars with everyone and anyone and their hypocritical lifestyles. They're all on the take from government yet act like they're the ones who will bring fiscal responsibility to government. They are completely shameless.
Pure comedic theater.
Pathetic.
Yet, they talk so unGodly and unChristian! heaven help us from all 8 of these loony tunes!
You go, DeMerl. I couldn't have said it better if I tried.
Also shedding tears Saturday was Rick Santorum
I am glad I did not get to see this. I would have vomited right there and then.Do they really expect us to buy this crap?
Please....I would appreciate if you consider us to be a little more intelligent than that.
What a crook of S***T.. A display of hypocrisy, and trying EVERYTHING just to be considered for the Presidency.
If you want a good laugh watch the Jesus for President bit from Bill Maher here from the 4min mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTQb0Y2jZy8
Newt, you left your dying wife for a younger woman...
God can forgive you, but I wont forget what a POS you are... that just still sickens me... I'm not holier than thou because I know I make mistakes too.... but I just can not bring myself to forgetting something this heinous.
And about that $1.6million you made from Freddie and Fannie; and the $37million you made from Health care industry and the other millions you made selling your crap to the country... dude, you shouldn't even begin to mention God or running for an office, Newt, just go bury your head in a church until you really get you stuff straight. It's appalling seeing you make a total azz out of yourself.
You know, I was going to try and have some clever retort to this post, but they are all so pathetic, I will leave it to the big guy upstairs to throw the lightening bolts at them. I want to stand clear and fair away from these GOP candidates!
Lovely. That's what we need in a president -- some sniveling weakling who cries in public. Weren't we humiliated enough by Bush?
Where are the adults?
Imagine all the tissues used in a meeting between one of these guys and John Boehner?
it doesnt matter what a republican does or has done ..as long as he now says he is a born again christian he is good to go ....and the christian right will go the extra mile for them.. the christian right doesnt really care about your family values ..as long as your not a democrat ..
Perfect opportunity phinephancy for God to get the whole bunch with one bolt of lightening.
They talk of God and they put down the OWS.. well here is why...http://m.ibtimes.com/occupy-wall-street-lobby-memo-clgc-aba-252691.html
They are in Wall Street back pocket... And they are full of crap.
My thoughts exactly, Forrest. If God has a sense of humor, He is probably losing it right now with these clowns.
Desperate people use desperate measures to try and win public acceptance. These candidates have some really bad managers/handlers and PR folks. This whole thing is resembling a bad reality TV show. The debates are a joke and the more they talk, the farther and farther they sink. That's good news for us, though. Obama's a shoo-in for another term at this point. But keep the show going as i'm amused by it all. And btw, Newtie, you had better start taking the OWS folks seriously. They're going to bring down your masters. Making dumba$$ teabagger comments will lessen your credibility (not that you have that much anyway).
As opposed to the sniveling weakling we have in office now? The one that goes around apologizing and running down America all the time? That sniveling weakling??
Initially I thought that Cain would make it to the White House but thanks to the series of GOP debates, Cain is falling well short of the target.
Also it’s good to see Ron Paul’s name in the article, usually they leave him out for one reason or another. Perhaps his extensive experience, the simplicity and clarity of his argument and ability in shaking the tree has too many worried.
The other candidates?......behind the smoke screen of the debate, they’ve proved they are humans after all…
The posters tonight are dominated by those who somehow hates all who have even a passing relation with God. Just being atheist seems to mean, for the libs, no one should believe in God. Now when Nanci Pelosi cries, it is sooooo heart warming, just look how sensitive that little beauty is.
what is it like to live your life as a pu$$y
This is all theatre. Ever wonder why nobody has dropped out of this race since Tim Pawlenty all those months ago? It's because they're not in it to be president; they're in it for the book deals, the speaking engagements and the public recognition. No one in their right mind would expose themselves to video which can be used against them in the re-election campaign for Barack Obama.
This is the equivalent of putting a defendant on the stand to defend themselves - dozens of times! They get questioned, re-questioned and questioned again and their answers get recorded. How is this a smart thing to do? Think about how much trouble an attorney would be in if he exibited this sort of blatant malpractice in the courtroom.
It's all about the money and fame, otherwise all but one or two would have already dropped out by now.
I would like to see a law passed that would prohibit presidential candidates from making any money until two years after their campaign had ended. That would take the incentive away to make a quick buck at the expense of the American people - and it would curb the dog and pony shows.
Why did Obama run? Why did he write books in his quest for the presidency. No one is forced to buy the books, so what is your beef? Rick would Clinton and Obama be required to send back all their earnings for two years after their terms expire?
As opposed to the sniveling weakling we have in office now? The one that goes around apologizing and running down America all the time?
You mean the one that gave the order to kill or capture bin Laden? And provide examples of where he apologized to anyone, or ran down this country. Do that, or stop the nonsense comments. You only make yourself, and your party look dumber than you already are.
@Iulac1, the answer to your question is: ask Obama.
After hearing of these faux people of spirituality I want to laugh and vomit at the same time. Possible?
Couldn't have found a more appropriate moderator to conduct a lying contest, nor a more able group of contestants.
So the entire field of Republican candidates are crying the blues except the two Mormons. As a fellow Christian without Mormon beliefs, I find this very disturbing. Just a few serious questions. How are all of you doing today? Your tearful trials and tribulations of yesteryear appear to be in your far distant past.
Do you still ride an ass to spread the message of God as Christ Himself did? Do you strive to heal the sick and feed the multitudes of hungry people with fishes and loaves? Do you love your brother( that would include the homeless, the OWS protesters and even liberals) as you love yourselves? Would you embrace a lovely, but sinning prostitute, as one of your own to show her the way or avail yourself of her enticing services?
As a Christian that fervently believes in the golden rule, I must question your motives and actions. I was taught to judge lest ye be judged. I'm willing to take that challenge and all of it's consequences. May God forgive me. Christ angrily threw all of the money changers and hypocrites out of the temple. As a follower of Christ( a Christian), can I do no less?
You don't ride an ass. You travel the entire country in private jets and limousines. You care nothing for the sick, except the elite that can still afford exorbitant health care costs. The majority can die. You would deprive the starving multitudes from fishes and loaves to hand-feed caviar and Fillet Mignon to your Ultra-wealthy supporters. You love absolutely no one more than yourself and kiss butt at every opportunity to further your own greedy cause. One of you even embraced a bought woman and denied your sacred vows to a devoted wife as she lay dying in a hospital room.
I believe your Mormons to be flawed. Not because of their religious beliefs, but because of sharing your political beliefs. I must say that they tower far above you so-called Christians as they exclude themselves from the crocodile tears of liars and hypocrites who only serve the dark side.
Punk rocker Henry Rollins had one of the best takes on God when he pointed out that God was supposed to be omniscient and omnipotent. If that is indeed the case, then perhaps God allows homosexuality to test the tolerance of the so-called Christians.
Oh I see we have another liberal Democrat insult bash column going now...
First of all they were invited, and yes all but one were playing to the audience, and the one that wasn't was the one that didn't cry......
What do ya know? Ron Paul was there, Mittny wasn't, he couldn't be bothered, of course mitt doesn't really care about Iowa, he's all over New Hampshire.
But where does he go from there? (not that anyone really cares)
Overall, it was a pretty good laugh, even for me....
You don't have to be an atheist to despise a band of lying, greedy, hypocritical ignoramuses whose backers have robbed their country blind and have every intention of continuing to do so.
Crocodiles cry, too, and they'll eat you if given the chance, but at least they won't loot your pension, take your house, and tell you when, with whom, and how often you can have sex.
These are the whored-out creeps who want to keep one hand in our pockets and the other in our underwear. To any deity who's observing this nauseating spectacle: god or goddess, knock yourself out.
too F'n Funny Thanks for the link
Just as the TGOP wanted to see Obama's Birth Certificate, I would like to see Herman Cain's medical records, proving that he had Stage 4 colon Cancer.
Perhaps we should be more understanding and accepting of the vile and odiferous effluvium emanating from him during all of his public appearances. Each of his anal orifice-like statements may now be understood to be punctuated with a semicolon.
I readily accept that he might indeed be a cancer victim -- look at that malignant melanoma perched atop his neck.
this "debate" sounds like it was closer to being an episode of Jerry Springer.
I didn't vote for Obama, the first time(nor McCain), but if those are his opponents in the next election for POTUS, I'll gladly vote for Barack this time.
Huntsman sounds like the only sane/reasonable GOP candidate so far. That he decided to skip this sideshow, speaks volumes.
Mark-3147899
If you want a good laugh watch the Jesus for President bit from Bill Maher here from the 4min mark:
Too Funny, way to funny... the iKillYou, and at the end, Jesus would look up to the sky and say....
"Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do....."
Thanks for the link.....
Let me get this straight. The Liberal Democrats and Romney have angered you? Youse guys come to a site that you describe as a "Liberal Rag." I know--Romney is a "cult member," but I bet you would be amazed by finding gay people at a gay bar, cows in a pasture, or pilots in planes.
I'm not sure which is worse, these politicians cooing for the media and their base or you people squirting on yourselves spooning with Obama. Quite frankly I think I would have to take anything anyone has to offer over this money grabbing bankrupting hypocritical administration in office. Anything less than a wholesale change would be unacceptable.
They are all charlatans and scoundrels!
Newt is a monster (or at least in the newt-stage of his metamorphosis), no, really... he is!
Cain is frightening, especially to unescorted women.
Perry is a poster boy for the dain-brammaged.
Romney is so fake nobody knows or likes him.
Sanitorium - well, his name says it all!
That other guy, what's his name? Doesn't matter nobody cares.
Meet your candidates for president of the United States of America! Wow, this is truly pathetic and we should all be embarrassed to be American today.
In all my days, never, have I seen, such a room full, of naughty boys, and girls. I feel completely bewildered by this outpouring of unabashed sinfulness.
sandtrich
Lighten up will ya, What, only liberals can have a laugh around here?
Sandtrich, the GOP contest this time around is at best a "hogs on ice" sprint.
You liberals disgust me!!!!!! It is bad enough that the country is in the toilet because of Obama ( and yes it is his fault, he is supposedly the one in control) but you democrats have proven, that there is nothing you won't stoop to. Have you so easily forgotten President Clinton? Remember how you backed him up even though he told the media directly " I did not sleep with that woman". Did that not show how liberals keep their vows? If we were to judge all democrats by that speech, everyone would know that you are a bunch of liars; and the more you speak out against the republican candidates the harder the republicans will be on your beloved President!
Let me just put it out there, that there is not one Democrat who helps with the needs of others who does not want something in it for themselves. I have never seen it in my entire lifetime. However, I have seen christians sacrificing their comfort for the well being of others. You are correct in stating that you are the lazy ones. Not one of those people on OWS would volunteer any of their time to help run a soup kitchen if they didn't get any publicity in the process. No wonder we laugh at you so much.
Maybe we should wait 3 years so that we can forge the medical records.... like you democrats did for Obama?
Why is it that almost every prisoner is a God believer?
Atheists don't wind up in jail.
Unhappy seems unhappy. Perhaps it is because he can't come up with any facts to back up his forged documents remark, even though he desperately wishes he could. Oh, well...fail again.
I'm starting to think Obama is screwed. Romney proved he has common sense by not attending this fiasco. A Republican with any sense about him is a force to be reckoned with, especially given the disastrous administration he'll be up against.
Mac--"Hogs on Ice"--is that kosher? Great to read your words. Remember Lewis Grizzard, the writer for AJC and author? You remind me of him at his best. Good evening to and hope all is good.
"Tears and some confessions from Our Government"
We hijacked your country, sold it to the highest bidders--any special interest--we'll take their money and make sure that favorable legislation is passed on their part.
We have divided and turned the working class members against each other in the guise of patriotism.
We allowed the Military Industrial Complex to take $1.4T of the total revenue of $2.2T---and cut education.
We give away welfare money---to oil companies, broadcasting companies, anyone that should be paying more--isn't.
We put "D's and "R's" after our names as a diversion. We're neither Liberal or Conservative. We're thieves and there is no honor among thieves.
We conveniently invoke the name of "God" to get you to see it our way.
We have eliminated the Middle Class and severed you from society. Please get in line with the poor as we only have 2 classes.
We're not giving it back.
Happy Holidays from "Your Government"
htpp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1-PKek8aNs This man did not bawl or act a fool.
Sailcat is just as stupid as ever. Since she is relying on you all to get her to her grave , which is very soon I here, all she can say is crap on this vine....I actually can come up with documents to support my vine. Adobe Acrobat didn't exist during the year of his birth; there was no need to use it or to make birth certificate seem clear unless you were trying to change something. But I guess my education level is a little higher than yours Little Lady. Maybe you should stick to your cats and let us younger folks handle all the new technologies. It's obvious that you don't know how these things work.
Unless you can corroborate your statements you are merely a liar. Your post says as much. It is a shame your alleged education did not teach you integrity or courage, though.
Fail again, Unhappy.
Sailcat: I know adobe acrobat.... how about you? If you don't know what you are talking about, stop thinking everyone is lying to you. That shows stupidity! Once again, you fail.... don't worry; you still have your cats to take care of... To them you must be really smart!
Secondly, it's not my fault if you keep tailing me like you're an old woman about to die and need something to grab onto. I won't respond to your blogs anymore...... you just can't hold up an intelligent conversation without saying something stupid. So enjoy your cats, because without them you have nothing.
The reason this article is so creepy is that it clearly displays psychopathic behavior. We know there is something unbalanced with the character of these men, even though none have faced a judge and jury, most of us for right or wrong, feel something repugnant when we read this.
One aspect of psychopathic behavior, that this story demonstrates, is the psychopaths ability to mimic normal human emotions. If we are confused about why our seemingly intelligent leaders keep exhibiting bizarre actions, simply put it through the lens of a diagnosis that they are psychopathic. Do a quick study on the internet with these key words: psychopathic symptoms.
No, I am not a doctor of any kind, but maybe I can persuade a few people who read this to search for some answers that may provide some understanding. And, yes this is only my opinion, if you don't like it so be it, respectfully move on, and find an opinion you do like.
Note: I do not support either corrupt political party. Vote out the incumbents, for true term limits.
Ahhhhh yes, I see the little Libbies are out enmasse here with their typical drivel. Such weakness as they cling to their pathetic secular lives and worship government as their only god.
ROTFLMAO!!!
Reading some of these posts makes you feel like you're standing in Zucotti Park with the rioters, vandals, murderers and perverts of Liberal indoctrination. No guidance or ambition in life so they wander aimlessly spewing their hate, fear, racism, bias and contempt for the individual.
Idolizing the most incompetent, inadequate president as he trespasses in our White House betraying the Constitution and worshipping his Muslim roots. Yet the useful idiot Liberals continue to try and convince themselves that he has actually accomplished something of importance for America. His own admission that things are worse now than they were 4 years ago should be an outrage but the mindless masses of Progressive indoctrination Hope for that Promise Land called Change.
As he calls our great Republic weak and lazy, having never put in an honest days work to his name, the lemmings just follow him off the cliff of despair. His promotion of mediocrity is obvious to the simplest mind except for the ultra-simple Liberals and Progressives. His hate for America and its perfect Constitution is evidenced daily as he needs to abrogate the usual process of governance and reject the checks and balances in our government.
His corruption by his mentors Saul Alinsky and Cloward and Piven resonates in his narcissism and anti-colonialism. He perjures himself as he tries to dissociate himself from the criminal Jeremiah Wright and murderer Bill Ayers. He surrounds himself with Socialists, Marxists and Communists yet the Left puts him on a pedestal. As the brainwashing of dependence, self-pity and apathy are instilled the swooning masses just lay down submissively and accept they are unable to accomplish the most important virtue, self-pride.
Liberals, so easy, so pathetic.
"If you don't know what you are talking about, stop thinking everyone is lying to you."
You are making unfounded statements that lack substantiation, unhappy. That, by definition, is a lie. Unless you can corroborate the preposterous statements you are spewing, that would make you a liar. That, unhappy, is a fact.
The rest of your ravings say more about you than they do about anything else.
Fail.
Freedomringsloud just not true, sad for you that Obama will be re-elected and will be your president for four more years, because republicans just can't get it done. You rant and rave to no avail as your are backing a load of losers, ha as much as you hate us you will lose to us, cheer up, and deal with it, before you give your self a stroke and need some Obamacare.
Unhappy, I guess the difference is that, unlike you, I was not born in 2009. So I remember that the financial collapse occurred in 2008, well before Obama became President. I remember too that its roots reach back to the first half of that decade, when the Republicans held control of both Congress and the White House.
Although I voted for him in 2008, I'm not a big fan of Obama. He appears to be an insulated theorist, either unable or unwilling to reach out to and work with either the Democrats or the Republicans.
But Obama did not cause the current state of the U.S. economy. He has simply been unable to fix it. He certainly could have manifested greater leadership over the past 3 years, and why he has been so removed from the ongoing debates by the "Super Committee" is anyone's guess. So if the Republicans manage to find a viable candidate to run against him next year, I'll consider voting for him (or her). But Gingrich, Cain, Perry or Bachmann (Sleezy, Dumb, Dumber and Damn Crazy)? No way, no how.
As to your continuing paranoid fantasies regarding Obama's status as a native born, U.S. citizen, please give it up. You are embarrassing yourself.
Fear is your only God. Bulls on Parade.
Foreign affairs? Gaffe, duh, war, war, silence.
Economy? Block, gaffe, silence, greed, duh.
Health care? Gaffe, hypocrisy, gaffe, lies, hate.
Immigration? Hate, gaffe, hate, hypocrisy, hate.
OWS? Hate, hate, hate, contempt, fear.
Obama? Birth, hate, Muslim, elitist, hate.
Religion? Love, peace, forgiveness, inclusion, "let's teach American's our values".
Now we know what they stand for on the "issues"!
Where did you get these people?
This debate was sponsored & held by 4 groups; Focus on the Family, CitizenLink, the National Organization for Marriage, and the Family Leader. ALL 4 OF THESE BENIGN SOUNDING ORGANIZATIONS ARE CLASSIFIED AS HATE GROUPS by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
It's shameful that any candidate would pander to hate, our country needs no more of that divulsive BS. So what's next for the GOP, the KKK debate? Of course, Mr. Romney & Mr Cain will not be invited but whatever, the other candidates will have another chance to thump their chests & proudly declare what bigots they are.
God, guns & hate, yeehaw!
Got some real sick mofo's there! What is this a rerun of Days of Our Lives?
You know she's still alive right? They mutually decided to get a divorce before she went into the hospital to have a tumor removed. I wouldn't vote for Newt but this myth has been debunked a thousand times already.
What a bunch to "preach family values" what Evangelical christian church do they all belong to?? This is why Mitt Romney stays away from these stupid "debates"
Romney 2012
The God thing for Republicans is kind of like the compulsory part of a figure skating competition; it has to be negotiated correctly in order to have a chance in the next part of their programs. It's also a form of vetting for the Wacko fringe in that they know if someone is willing to jump through the God hoop, invading a country or eliminating social programs, even part of the Bill of RIghts will be a breeeze!
Paper Jesus Lyrics
Artist(Band):Staind
You take this all for granted
All the things they choose to feed you
By keeping you distracted
Just long enough to bleed you...dry
A reason for your anger
It's what I need
It's what I need
To recognize the truth
It's what I need
It's what I need
So burn your paper Jesus
It's what I need
It's what I need
And own the things you do
It's what I need
It's what I need
Question what they sell you
All the lies that they are teaching
And they've made a corporation
Out of desperate people's feelings...of fear
A reason for your anger
It's what I need
It's what I need
To recognize the truth
It's what I need
It's what I need
So burn your paper Jesus
It's what I need
It's what I need
And own the things you do
It's what I need
It's what I need
Somebody chose these words for you
Interpretations of the truth
Somewhere behind your fear they hide
To fill the holes inside
A reason for your anger
It's what I need
It's what I need
To recognize the truth
It's what I need
It's what I need
So burn your paper Jesus
It's what I need
It's what I need
And own the things you do
It's what I need
It's what I need
I wonder if they used the Glenn Beck turnip trick to get those crocadile tears?
Tears of the clowns...
Tyler, why was #1.2 collapsed? No profanity, just a couple of questions and a personal opinion or two. Anyway, I read a larger percentage of the collapsed posts than the regular posts. If the opinion riles someone, the better it is. I guess last night was just for lib denouncing conservatives.
If whining and crying was a qualification for being president, why not just elect Boehner? I think the American people deserve a little better then this.
It doesn't work, Tweet. We know that because we elected Obama. He is always whining and complaining that it just isn't his fault that the country is going to hell in basket while he blames everyone but himself.
He is always whining and complaining that it just isn't his fault that the country is going to hell in basket while he blames everyone but himself.
NO! He challenges an obstructionist Republican congress for not only refusing to act, but refusing to even discuss plans that possibly could get us out of the economic slump we've been in since the Bush administration. But that's expected because they think they have the independent voters fooled.
DeMerl was collapsed so I am restating DeMerl's post because it is true.
"It's always God, God, God with this crowd. They are completely shameless".
They are not only shamelessbut liars as they are the most ungodly of people and a complete shame
ya DeMerl
and the democrat neo-communists are heathens with no morals or values...which makes it easy to criticize
We need a Gay porn atheist to head a party..Put an end to this B.S.
It doesn't really matter, does it? My idea got 45 votes, while your comment got 4 votes and a collapse by the community.
Maybe the message here is this: offer solutions instead of spouting rhetoric.
Shameless indeed. Santorum charged his local school district in PA to send his kids to private schools down in the DC area.
What a display by these true sociopaths!
Some of these candidtates "tears" were probably real and others - clearly faked.
These Wall Street and Corporate Cronies have great feelings for themselves and for the well-being of their ilk - thus, the waterworks of how far they have "advanced" in life. Yet, these candidates do not have any compassion for others.
To destroy and reduce the economic, political and social standing of the middle class and the poor - means nothing to these heartless crooks.
Folks - Do not be fooled by these Reactionaries desperate attempts to grab the presidency.
If any one of these Fascists should land in the Oval Office - they will quickly show us how Godless they truly are.
Mostly they seemed to be crying for themselves, all the while sticking it to the least among us, and conspiring to rob me of my Social Security retirement fund.
you don't have a social security retirement fund...you are paying for past generations social security retirement...future generations will be paying for your social security retirement...you know , like a ponzi scheme
what happened to the liberal mantra of "only we have critical thinking" ?...hilarious the lack of knowledge of how social security works , yet the loudest voices in the room
Question - Was This as Sad as It Seemed?
I watched yet again to see who if anyone of these candidates could take my vote which is not totally committed to Obama and yet again I see a spectacle that makes me wonder and lose even more, what little is left, confidence in the government of Wall Street and the power elite. I am speechless other posters have voiced my observations and utter disappointment in the entire group. I pity the person that would be so foolish to be a running mate of any of these political hacks. A sad day for America yet again truly sad so sad even they were reduced to tears.
My Christianity seems so out of step with all of these so-called Christians I have nothing to add except I will not allow them to hi-jack my faith as they have hi-jacked the country for the 1% that own this country - so sad.......
Testify!
Then the good Christians took a swipe at the Mormon that legislated health care for all those in need. What is their complaint? I guess that was mighty Christian of him, how dare he provide health care to those in need. WOW they love Christ, they just don't like anybody imitating him. Remeber Jesus told the poor "Take a bath and get a job you lazy azzes." Ha I love these guys.
If you would now turn to page 999 of your hymnals we will all sing "Bringing In The Sheaves"
Hymn number 666 is The Fleecing of the Flock. It is traditionally sung by GOP candidates as they put their hands in the pocket of the person standing next to them. It will bring tears to your eyes, particularly if you happen to be standing too close to one of these hypocritical bastards and your wallet turns up missing.
Would Christ make everyone pay for helping the less-fortunate or leave that decision to them?
Sailcat..............thank you, I haven't laughed that hard since I first saw the GOP lineup. Great stuff.
He would ask if we can really afford it, because we have subsidies to big oil we are obligated to pay, and we must not raise taxes on the mega wealthy.
Ha I'm belly laughing Sailcat, you could have been a republican preacher/politician, if you were not such an honest person.
Christ always let everyone make their own decision.
Actually Jesus said "let the dead bury their own dead" in response to a guy who wanted to go and bury his father. So take a bath and get a job... ya that pretty much pales in comparison. If people really loved Christ they wouldn't ask or even want the Government to provide healthcare for everyone.. They would help people on their own. Asking the government to do it is just a way to distance themselves from ever having to get their own hands dirty. Which one are you? Dirty hands or government do it so I don't have to person?
The man used the excuse of burying his father while refusing to follow Christ. Jesus Christ's response was to tell the man that he was dead himself for refusing to follow Him. Twisting this tale to suit your own purposes applies to you as well.
I tried to give a poor man a triple by-pass he was in desperate need of, it did not go well, he damn near had a fatal heart attack fighting me off, and running away. Hey I was just trying to help. Ha get serious Steve these are the people that want to mix religion and government, so why not do it up right, if you want Jesus in politics and government then why not legislate Jesus's policies, or does that only apply to abortion laws and nothing else. Why are Republicans so picky and choosy when it comes to their Christianity being represented through government?
. Yep, but the GOP seems to have a problem with that. Seems like their philosophy is their way or the highway!
Steve W,
You should read your Bible more carefully. Check out Matt. 25:41-42:
"Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink."
And, as for the religious right's opposition to more taxes, they should check out Matt. 22-21: "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and give to God what is God's."
As a Christian, it frustrates me to no end that the religous right's political message is one of the most anti-Christian messages out there.
Marty: You should read your bible more closely and not just the twisted lies told by the democratic party. I suppose you are not familiar with 2 Thessalonians 3:6-14? Where it says:
6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."
11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. 14 Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them, in order that they may feel ashamed.
This is what happens when you refuse to obey God. As a christian I am ashamed for you that you don't know these verses. It just goes to show you that you don't know the bible as well as you think you do. Keep in mind, we are not talking about people who are disabled either mentally or physically. We are talking about those people whom you see protesting for OWS and are doing nothing!!!!!!!!!!
Now it's against God's will to have access to healthcare as a society? That is just about the most narcissistic garble that I have ever read. "I've got mine--screw you"?
Jesus, the human, was a simple man of the people and a Liberal philosopher, a progressive and part of the 99%.
I think you are a little drunk tonight. God did not say anything about not having healthcare; but the question does come into play about who would pay for it. Now what does the bible does say about going into debt? If you remember, it basically says don't do it. How much do you think this nation would have to go into debt for if we had universal healthcare? How do you think Jesus would respond to that? I think what Steve was trying to say was it all goes back to working for a living; and earning your daily bread. Our country is already in trouble from borrowing too much from China; do we really want to go further down that road and forget what God has already taught us?
You should be ashamed of your foolish self. There is absolutely nothing Christian about the Old Testament. Jesus came to change the law. A tooth for a tooth became turn the other cheek. You may be confused. Are you circumcised? God forbid that you find yourself Jewish instead of Christian.
Nothing wrong with being Jewish, mind you. You see that they believe your Jesus Christ was a false prophet deserved of dying on the cross. You won't find many among the Jewish that are confused about the issue. They know that the Old Testament belongs to them. They believe that the New Testament is nothing more than a fraud. You might want to trade your crucifix in for a yarmulke.
Jesus was a liberal democrat he rode a donkey not an elephant.
Unhappy: I did my time in Sunday School. I read the Bible. It wasn't "my" Bible. It belonged to the Sunday School teacher, who also told me that Jesus was going to call me home because I had a heart murmur.
Many of us have never assigned the Bible anymore importance than the mythology of other cultures, except that the Bible seems much more bleak and violent, as befits something spawned in a desert.
In fact, your favorite semi-historical religious document borrows a lot from the very first recorded Western myth, "Gilgamesh," which comes from pre-Babylonian Sumeria.
For Jews, the Old Testament is history. For Christian, the Bible only hits its stride when the fed-up Jewish carpenter Jesus rebels, defies the iniquities of the wealthy and powerful, and is martyred -- so that we could mark his death with chocolate bunnies and Peeps, relics of my actual ancestors' spring celebrations.
Selling a wimpy version of ancient customs was how your ambitious religion sold itself to my people, who were no better and no worse than their conquerors: Convert, and we'll let you keep a wimpy version of the fun stuff... but not too much fun stuff, or we'll burn you at the stake in the name of our god, who through our ceaseless efforts, happens to have gained control of the entire European continent.
If historic Jesus were present in today's United States, do you honestly think he'd be hustling Wall Street, lobbying, or crying on a podium about his personal life? Or would he just be sickened and humiliated? You know everything about Jesus, so let's hear it.
Why would anybody who is not of the Christian religion even consider voting for a republican, in light of their views that anyone who is not a Christian is deemed inferior and needs to be evangelized.
@unhappy--please see my post at 15, #374....
Ron Paul 2012, the only candidate who won't lie to your face and actually is against unprovoked wars and torture. The others? all liars, just follow what they say and its not hard to see.
Ron Paul has about the same chance at the republican nomination as Rue Paul.
Get to know Ron Paul and what he stands for and then decide
http://www.infowars.com/ron-paul-iowa-family-forum-gop-debate-highlights/
You have to convince republicans to give him the nomination first, then worry about the rest. I already have my horse in this race, I have not seen anything from any of the republican candidates that will change my mind, including Ron Paul.
Republicans continue to send the clear message that if you are not Christian you are a little less than welcome in their party, you can see this is one of the reasons they are loathe to give the nomination to Romney or Huntsmann. I don't think they are considered real republicans by their own party, they sent that message last night pretty loud and clear. I don't blame either one for not showing up last night, they would have felt completely out of place at that Christian revival meeting.
Yes Forrest Grump we must immediately start executions of all Christian faiths. That way we can purge ourselves for the up coming destruction of the American Constitution. As a Democrat I urge all Democrats to start discriminating against all those who have a believe in a Christian god. Those who believe in a power that may be stronger and better then humankind are obviously demented individuals. Besides we must support our communist brothers and sisters and the Muslims against the Great Satin formerly called the USA. Rise up with OWS and burn the cities and kill the Jews. Hatred is the message of the Democrat party and I urge all Democrats to march and destroy America.
Ghostmaker: and where did he call for "extermination" of Christians? Forresst Gump was merely and accurately calling out this ridiculous crop of candidates who mistake this election as being one for "preacher in chief" . The US is not a theocracy. This is not Iraq. What about that do you have trouble with? What is this hpersensitive victim mentality of you and your cohorts that unless EVERYONE shares their religion and its extremism of wearing it on their sleeve, demanding loyalty oaths, that its the people you want excluded who are attacking you??You are a walking billboard for how scary and extreme the right wing has become..it's barely recognizable a s a political party. You will again lose the election and be reduced to whing about "sheepie" being completely clueless as to why your extremism doesn't sell.
If your going to attack someone or thing for their religious beliefs then you are only one step from the Brown Shirts of Nazi Germany. That my friend is not the American way.
Again lose the election oh how soon you forget about 2010.
You have no idea of the amount of hatred that is in the streets towards Democrats and thier Communist liberal policies. NONE.
Ghostmaker, you have no idea how stupid your slobbering rants make you look. You have no credibility whatsoever.
When you can make both eyes focus at the same time, give us a jingle. Until then, just sit down and eat your pork rinds.
Sad thing is you can't tell if it is a Democrat or communist posting all the hate messages . A God who speaks and demonstrates his love for all , has a lot to say about hate . Hopefully all will come to know him and find peace and love for their fellow man and woman .
Whose god, gotme? Yahweh, Allah, Jehova, Vishnu, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or do you have another deity in mind?
The point is, the subject is irrelevant. It is obstructing our ability to focus on the real issues that should be occupying these alleged erstwhile candidates.
Ghost you need to calm down nobody in the democratic party is a communist but it sounds like mcarthyism is back and with the republicans .....
Unhappy if you are such a christian why aren't you happy ? And I will also point out to you that you are using extremly too much old testament ( Torah ) idealogy...And say if you think abortion should be illegal how come you don't think everyone should have food, housing and health-care..? I think it is because you are so catdirt mean and so is the republican party now...And that is why anybody who is a compassionate thinker with empathy will not vote for the aformentioned party...And yes we do remember 2010 and because of that we will be out in force on election day and you just see which way the military swings this time since we have a proven commander in-chief who the soldiers and sailors and airmen see now for how awesome he is and has been especialy since 2010.................Chew on that you big pepper spraying baton beating on our college student and veteran meanies...............
Gotme we are Christians, most of us, just not republicans....And the only hate I saw was put up sarcasticaly by a rightie claiming to be of God....
I believe the czar Jones told us he was a communist, and I think he is a democrat. But then our exalted non-leader told us he gravitated toward the communists in college. What Obama has championed since the election shows he is still of that gravitation toward the communists. He is nothing but for consistent on that issue.
Is there no subject so muddied that Davset cannot inject a dose of ignorance to make it completely opaque and senseless?
They live in a cult ( Fox Nation )... They spouted this same crap when Nixon ran against JFK.." They will make your children go to school with coloreds and we will have a mongrel society" The hate is dying but slowly..
sw, you forgot to add we were all going to have to turn Catholic too. My grandma was SURE of it. After the death of the Pres., she said she would have voted for him had he run again. I think she would have, there's HOPE, I hope!!
Ghostmaker I went to a Catholic grade school, a Catholic High School, and a Catholic University, I certainly don't need the republican party to train me in the tenets of Christianity. Religion has no place in politics, one of the greatest rights as an American and guaranteed by the Constitution you claim to love so much is freedom of and freedom from religion if you so desire. Politics and religion go together like nitrogen and glycerin, it is republicans that send a clear message that they support one religion above all others, not I. I simply said republicans make people of other faiths feel less than welcome in their party and that is the truth. That is not American, nobody should feel more or less welcome or valued as an American citizen regardless of their personal religious beliefs. Republicans wear their religion on their sleeve, not democrats, we do not propose to hold our politicians to a religious litmus test, that's your game, not mine, pal. The strange thing though is for a party that claims to follow the teachings and tenets of Christianity they are mighty adept at bending and twisting those tenets to fit their politics of the moment. If a Mormon should get elected I can handle it, can you, if a Muslim was to get elected I can handle it can you. I am tired of politics from preachers and preaching from politicians and I am not alone, it is simply un-American to want to exclude any religion and give preference to another. Your politicians don't set the bar for good Christians, I was taught by nuns and priests that devoted their entire adult lives to the humble service of others in the name of Christianity, so go evangelize somebody else, but do yourself a favor and leave it out of your politics, it has no business there, not in America, not if you believe in the Constitution.
Geez no wonder Forrest had all that money....He can lay it down like it is and be smart when he hasta...hahah...And BTW I was raised catholic also..Though I choose to do most of my praying in the closet rather than the street like those do...I don't even wanna name those with the socio-pathic tendencies...haha..That do with their thingie on there ...hhhmmmm....sleave...
One more thing as a Catholic I have to tell you this abstinence thing some republicans are all into, it is only about 99.9% effective, Ha, how do you like me now.
The losers bawl?
your no Catholic Forrest...and lying about it for your own amusement is worse than what you are accusing the rest of the religious comunity of
ohg...and you might learn something from a book about "who gives to charity" by Alfred Brooks...you might be as surprised as he was...but then , someone has to WANT to know the truth
and where does it say "no religion in politics" in the Constitution?...just wondering
and you don't hold your politicians to ANY morals tests , litmus or otherwise
How do you know he is no catholic ? Are you getting that from the movie ? Or are you his mommy or granny ? And you need to read more about our federal government if you do not understand our seperation of church and state smartypants dere..
And because some author put it in a book and said it doesn't mean its a fact that usually means it's an opinion.....unless its a science book....and others...But you guys don't believe in that do ya?
Separation of Church and state Harry, and it will be a big surprise to a lot of people if I was not a Catholic, just what makes you think I am not a Catholic, how is it that you think you can determine that, I'm very curious.
I should have added Harry that morals and religion are two completely separate issues, one does not depend on the other, and one does not guarantee the other, that's another common mistake republicans tend to make lately.
I believe Jesus died for my sins...But I am no crazy born-again .....And I will vote for Obama/Biden 2012......They really aren't the Anti-christ ticket....Stop following the Old Testament and that twisted version of the Bible that people read for you....And most of all stay away from right-wing hate media and groups and you will be free.....of ............. FOX NATION
Harry: let me get this straight. You don't think a poster is Catholic who SAYS he's catholic because he doesn't AGREE with YOU???? Seriously... with friends like you, I'm not sure the Republicans NEED any enemies.
ae nominae patreus, et fillius, et spiritu sanctus Who remembers that? Who can never forget?
And of course, that man of God Gingrich has had more wives than all the Morman candidates put together.
Nice try Sailcat but your criticism of stealing Republicans also applies to Democrats, both wolves in charge of the bird farm. The only difference is the party's names.
Pelosi, Reid, Boehner and McConnell are the lead crooks with Obama the current Crook in Chief and Biden the Vice Foot in Mouth.
And perhaps the fact it is not the Democrats resorting to such deceiving displays based on very questionable Faith in God. The Jesus God in this particular theater of pain.
I do agree that without each other, neither Party could succeed at their agendas of Distraction and Avoidance of Problem Solving while enriching themselves and their Corporate Funders.
Wrapping themselves up in flags and weeping piteously over family, god, and country makes these failed presidential contenders look worse than merely hypocritical, Tad, m'boy. They looked Republican!
"morals and religion are two completely separate issues"
does not having either make a difference?...I think it does and don't think liberals do...interesting
"Separation of Church and state"
where does it say "separation of church and state" ?
it does say that the government cannot "create" a national religion and it cannot interfere with your right to practice your religion...but no where does say "separation of church and state"...that liberal spin comes from Thomas Jefferson in something that he wrote years later, if he thought that that should have been IN the Constitution then he should have acted to have the Constitution ammended to say that , he didn't , ergo it doesn't...that's a common mistake made by liberals lately
The words are indeed Jefferson's, Harry, and successive Supreme Courts going back into the early 1800s have narrowed the definition of that First Amendment principle into a wall of separation between church and state. There is no mistake and no spin. Ours is an atheist government when the word atheist is defined as it should be: no god. Therefore, the subject of religion and a deity is irrelevant to a president's qualifications and it has no place in an election race.
"athiesm" is a "belief" as in you have no proof one way or the other...seperation of "belief" and "state" is what you believe then ...cool
oh...and an example of "judicial interpretation" and notice the words " the Supreme Court's interpretation of it changed"
not convinced of the Supreme Courts "interpretation" of said "seperation"
"In the 1896 case Plessy v. Ferguson, however, the Supreme Court decided that the Fourteenth Amendment did not prevent states from requiring whites and blacks to use separate railway cars. The Court ruled that "separate but equal" facilities satisfied the "equal protection" requirements of the Fourteenth Amendment. This rule stood until 1954, when the Supreme Court unanimously decided in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka that separate public services are not equal under the Fourteenth Amendment. The Fourteenth Amendment, however, did not change between 1896 and 1954; the Supreme Court's interpretation of it changed. Hence, it is sometimes hard to distinguish between the power of judicial interpretation and the power to make the laws."
Sorry, Harry. There is no ambiguity with respect to the separation of church and state in the United States. In its 1879 Reynolds vs. The United States decision, the court allowed that Jefferson's comments "may be accepted almost as an authoritative declaration of the scope and effect of the [First] Amendment." This principle was supported again in the 1947 landmark case of Emerson vs. Board of Education in which Justice Hugo Black said, "In the words of Thomas Jefferson, the clause against establishment of religion by law was intended to erect a wall of separation between church and state." The principle was tested again and held up by the Supreme Court in the 1962 Engel vs. Vitale with respect to prayer in schools; in the 1968 case of Epperson vs. Arkansas which struck down an Arkansas law making it illegal to teach the mankind descended from lower animals because, as Abe Fortas wrote, "the constitutional prohibition of state laws respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The overriding fact is that Arkansas' law selects from the body of knowledge a particular segment which it proscribes for the sole reason that it is deemed to conflict with a particular religious doctrine; that is, with a particular interpretation of the Book of Genesis by a particular religious group."; and in the 1971 Lemon vs, Kurtzman in which the court determined that a Pennsylvania state policy of reimbursing the salaries of teachers of secular subjects in religious schools or the costs of secular instructional materials in religious schools violated the Establishment Clause.
The principle of the separation of church and state has been clearly defined, established, and supported. It is in no way ambiguous, Harry. There is no confusion on the subject at all.
Therefore, you don't need to be convinced at all, Harry. The Supreme Court has done all the thinking for you on the subject.
One last thing, Harry. Atheism literally means no god. It is not a belief in anything. Your lack of critical thinking skills and an apparent taste for dishonesty obviously leads you to conclusions that are comfortable for you but are false by any objective analysis.
In other words, Harry, you are lying to yourself and no one else. Fail.
hmm..."your lack of critical thinking skills"...an interesting bit of liberal buzz words and drivle...not to mention a personal attack violating the COH...you "believe" there is no god...simple as that..and you have that right...but it is still a "belief" , you can't prove it , ergo it is an interesting dilema
and by the way...who exactly is forcing their religion on you?...just wondering
who has "created" a religion to force on you since the creation of the nation?...a couple of names will do
who has forced their religious beliefs on this nation?...any name will do
it is my "belief" that the liberal democrat party in charge is forcing their socialist "beliefs" on me ...but that is ok right?...
the things you have named in you post WERE attempts to force a religious belief into a school system...WHO in this group of politicians is saying that they are going to "force" through laws and actions based on their religious beliefs?...names would help
yourparty has forced through a "healthcare" scam that is solely based on a socialist "belief" that it is their right to "improve America"without the consent of the people..."beliefs" are a pretty subjective subject
oh...and you are right , there is no confusion about what the Constitution says
"...who exactly is forcing their religion on you?"
I don't know if you're just being deliberately stupid, Harry, or if you're trying to make me endure the tedium of reminding you of the groups that attempt to display their religious religious symbols in government buildings and on public property, the church groups who attempt to censor books in school libraries that conflict with their narrow religious views such as Harry Potter and the Catcher in the Rye, and the christian attempts to impose their primitive creation myths on high school science classes as an alternative view to genuine biological fact. These are do not happen only occasionally; rather they represent persistent, insidious, and wide-spread efforts on the part of religious groups to interfere with secular government and schools and their pernicious desire to impose their particular religious views on the nation.
To name someone who is actively trying to subvert secular government in favor of his narrow religious viewpoints, you need look no further than Rick Perry who recently stated with some pride that Texas schools teach creationism in its highs schools. If true, they do so in violation of federal law. If he is wrong, he is lying. Either way, it is evidence that he has no more concept of the constitutional principle of the separation of church and state than you, Harry.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/18/rick-perry-says-texas-pub_n_930858.html
This is the last time I am going to post on the subject, Harry, because you are being willfully ignorant. The principle of the separation of church and state does not require your consent or your ability to grasp the point for it to be a hard constitutional fact. All your whining and deflection will not change it, either. All it means is that you are wrong whether you want to admit it and this country is safe from people like you.
"being deliberately stupid"...another violation of the COH , and I was wondering the same thing about you...interesting
and if I "say" you are wrong , am I "right" ?...
linking the Puffington Post?...not much of a "source" ,are they better than Fox news?...questions, questions
" to genuine biological fact."...haha...is that anything like the "fact" of Einstein's theory of relativity?...you know , the one that just got shot in the foot by neutrinos moving faster than the speed of light...scientific "facts" are a subjective discussion...isn't it cool?
So, debating the issues wasn't working for them and they are now resorting to crying on camera for sympathy and bringing up their god to deflect attention away from their dishonesty, extramarital affairs, and incompetence. Is this great or what?
Obama by default in 2012! The GOP is self destructing.
...... i give those clowns a 10 on the made me wanna vomit scale.
Something tells me the GOP tricks are only going to get dirtier and meaner as this destructive sideshow progresses.
The GOP doesn't have anymore tricks unless they can convince IRAN (or anybody) to grab more hostages and hold them until after the election. Meanwhile the GOP undercover can trade military weapons for the hostages to be released after Nov. 2012. Yeah, that's the ticket. Go GOP. I always learn new lowdown tricks from you.
If God called all of them to run for President, he was f***ing with all of them except Michele. He REALLY wants her to run baby, run!
None of these people represent 99% of Americans.
What an embarrassing joke.
Never,
... and you don't represent the 53%! You are a joke!
Eat me, Astonished.
Eat me.
Very intelligent, Never, ... The defense rests!
Astonished - what is the 53%/ New one on me
Only 53% of Americans paid taxes last year.
Swing and a Miss, Astonished...
Again.
Barbara,
The 53% are the 53% that pay taxes and run businesses that employ 47%. The 47% that reap the full set of entitlements that are supported by those taxes although they themselves pay zero federal income tax. Our friend, Mr Never ... (above) seems to forget about that in his hast to foment hate.
You mean only 53% paid federal income tax.
To say only 53% paid taxes last year is misleading and not true.
Even the working poor pay into SS, Medicare, school, gas, grocery, sales and many other taxes.
NYMike,
No, what I said was 53% paid federal income tax. Period. Not payroll tax as in SS and no reference to state and local taxes. The statement is correct. You keep talking about raising tax rates? That rate is federal income tax ... nothing else.
The Myth That 47% of Americans Pay No Taxes
Excerpts:
One of the misstatements in common use among those in the Right Wing fighting to protect the richest Americans from having to actually pay their fair share of the costs of running this nation is their claim that "half of all Americans pay no taxes."
Of course, it's a lie - anyone who has ever bought a gallon of gas or a bottle of coca cola has paid taxes - but even putting sales taxes aside, the truth is that only 14% of Americans pay neither income nor payroll taxes, and most of them are the elderly or disabled who pay no income taxes because they are unable (not unwilling) to work.
The actual number of Americans who don't pay any taxes isn't half, but 14%. This group of non-taxpayers of any kind is largely composed of the elderly and disabled. The people who don't pay taxes do so because they can't work.
The myth that the wealthy are carrying the tax burden for America is used to justify tax cuts for the rich. Conservatives use the inaccurate statistic hand in hand with their, "wealthy are the job creators argument." One statistic that was intended to demonstrate the loss of income due to the recession, along with the impact of the Obama tax cuts has been distorted and misused to justify a policy of not asking the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share.
The truth is that 86% of Americans pay taxes. In one recession strapped year (2009), less than half of single filer taxpayers paid federal income taxes.
Millions of Americans are not being told the truth that almost 90% of us pay taxes, and that much of the reason why there were fewer people paying federal income taxes in 2009 was that Barack Obama signed the largest tax cut in US history.
Since the truth undercuts the conservative's reverse Robin Hood steal from the poor to give to the rich policy, they are going to do their best to keep the facts buried under a mountain of misinformation.
Anytime anyone tells you that half of Americans paid no taxes, do your country a favor and straighten them out. We have the facts. It's time to tear down this talking point.
NYMike, your statement is correct.
Astonished, please show verification for your claim to Barbara:
"The 53% are the 53% that pay taxes and run businesses that employ 47%. The 47% that reap the full set of entitlements that are supported by those taxes although they themselves pay zero federal income tax."
NY Mike, I found the number interesting and then found out that apparently I'm one of those evil people who doesn't pay taxes because I get a nearly full refund every year (long story). Therefore, I'm one of those "takers" even though I've been employed at my current job for nearly a decade, own my home (or one of the reasons I have a big deduction), own a car (never miss a payment), am helping take care of my elderly mother AND a boomerang kid. Bug using the logic of some, I'm a "taker" because my effective rate is 0% (blame my accountant, people).
rrad: standing O!
rradico.. thank you for stating that.. it is time people put to rest that lousy saying of the 53 % .. it isnt right.. The other thing is that many of the large corporations due to loopholes and tax breaks pay little to nothing in taxes and actually got millions in tax refunds.
I truly believe after reading comments on here for the last three years, that liberals are some of the most hate filled people I have ever seen.
I would give a dollar if we could get Obama to be open and honest for even one moment since his election.
The 53% number of people paying federal income tax is 100% correct. As some of you mentioned, taking tax deductions and retired people make up most of the 47% who did not pay federal income tax.
No matter how you spin it only 53% of Americans paid one penny or more in federal taxes. Every single news outlet vetted and reported this number earlier this year. (even the "liberal" ones)
The only tax that everyone pays is sales tax, since it applies when you purchase something. You don't pay for schools unless you own property. You don't pay for SS and Medicaid/ Medicare unless you are on a payroll. Don't forget a large number of people work under the table.
There are many people from many walks of life dodging taxes. The 53% number of people actually paying income tax is not surprising.
I think it's time for is people to stop thinking with their political alliance and start using their own brains to formulate opinions.
Astonished - you should test that coin the magician pulled out of your ear. Hint: you won't find any of your earwax on it.
Yet you make a very compelling argument with your 53%, even if it is a complete and total illusion. I know, I know... you saw it with your own eyes. Guess it must be true then.
The tax discussion herein is masking the real issue which centers on the fact that the middle class is shrinking because wages are not keeping up to maintain a middle class standard of living. This means more and more people are making so little money they don't pay federal income tax.
There were over 4000 millionaires that paid no income taxes in 2010. I doubt that too many of them were someones employee.
rradko,
I think that I've already answered that question in the followup response. That said, here's where we are ...
We have a very large part of this country that favor safety nets for those less fortunate than us. It's a fact! Safety nets ... On the other hand that's not where this blog is going. This blog is constructed and directed towards deflecting the blame for the failures of the big spending programs in the last 3 years from the Democrat leadership. We hear ... the Repubs are blocking this or that ... but the facts are that that The Dems ran the WHOLE show for 2 years: Senate, House, and President. They got EXACTLY what they wanted, top to bottom ... all 4000 some pages of their massive and non-read bills that just HAD to be past before examination. IT DIDN'T WORK! And now the ONLY way out is to convince the affected that it was just because of those rotteny old Repubs.
Wrong! In the ONE year the Repubs have been in control of the House they have passed at least 3 bills that would have (or could have if you're a pessimistic Dem) had a positive job growth effect. They get tabled in the Senate ... no counter, no discussion, no vote, no nothing! Then you complain about "compromise"? With What??? Put it ON THE TABLE! A bill not a speech!
The debt panel ... the latest debacle. Two distinct offers by the Repubs. The first WITH revenue enhancement that met the overall requirement. Dead on arrival. No discussion. No counter. No "compromise". The second, "What can we agree on?" $700 billion. Nada! Nope! Can't do it.
Sooner or later, those who are under employed or non-employed are going to get it that the path to their own success is a job. They'll find one, create one, or find a way to get the skills they need for the one they want. and it won't happen by camping in the streets. It'll happen the same way that immigrants have done it in this country. You start somewhere and you work your way upward.
Nothing wrong with being a millionaire. I'd like to be one someday myself! And when I do, and when and if you do, I venture that we'll value the effort it took to get there and want to keep as much of the rewards for our efforts as we can!
Astonished I have been a plumber for 15 years I am not going to work at wal-mart or camp in the street I am gonna vote and so is everybody else and the people that protect the large corporations that you are plugging for and voting for are gonna be gone..........And I will go back to working overtime and getting raises like I did when Clinton was in....Because taxes will go up on the rich and companies will raise salaries and invest in the company because if not they will pay it in taxes for infrastructure projects and either way I will be working 7 days a week again................
We need a flat tax where everyone contributes . Too many free loaders in the system .
I agree I will pay 1% you and your millionare friends pay 99 and you can work for me and I will trickle down mine....You can still be da boss and tell me what to do all da time....
too funny sw philly!
How's the big O working out for you after 3 years? Sure hope you get a chance for overtime ... assuming we can get rid of Obama! And hey! Clinton actually benefited from a Republican congress that he worked with. Balanced the budget too! Of course this bozo doesn't understand the private sector at all!
To funny!!!!
@NYMike
the biggest tax deduction from anyones paycheck is the fedearal tax deduction...to act like it is not a substantial point that 53% don't pay in " is misleading and not true"...not to mention ignant , as I heard a New Yorker say...exactly when is New York gonna get out of the cesspool it is in?...interesting
uhhh...philly
did you know that corporations pass any taxes they they can't avoid on to consumers?...in the form of higher prices...you know , like the tools that turd hurders use to "plumb"...oh , and doesn't take a rocket scientist type mentality to "plumb" ...I have done it , and as your next thought probably was "Harry , you ain't no scientist" , you would be correct...what does "Philly" do with the taxes it takes from you? , the place being so defunct and criminal makes it look like you are getting ripped off ...interesting
" large corporations that you are plugging for and voting for are gonna be gone"
"companies will raise salaries and invest in the company"
which is it?...will they be gone , or investing and pating?...make up our minds!
I'm crying too, but not that I care about them. I care about our country and they all make me cry!
Personally, I was laughing until I cried, then I realized these characters aren't trying to be funny at all!
Today I watched a HIstory Channel show about the role of the Eighth Air Force in World War Two. Since my dad was a B-17 pilot with the Eighth, I was missing him a great deal, and thinking about how he would have enjoyed the program.
Then I realized how sick that my father, a Depression kid who came from nothing and built a business and a very comfortable life, would be sick in his soul if he saw the revolting mess that Baby Boom Republicans have made of their party and their country.
Thanks a bunch, sleaze monkeys. And to think we were Republicans.
Last I heard, it was the democrats that were in control of the White House? How long will you use that phrase that its the "republicans fault"? Really, it's starting to get old. Obama has tripled our debt in the past 3 years and still has no clue how to get the economy to recover.
You mean democrats, don't you? I don't recall the democrats willing to give up stuff at all; they just prefer other people to do it for them!
My how you ignore that an entire cast of Rich Politicians which have been bought and paid for by Lobbyists and Special Interest Groups are fitting of the description you give above, yet only can name the Democrats as Guilty?!?!?!!!
You must have already been blinded in your heart to give such false witness. Shame.
notsojingo,
... and you can't seem to fathom how the Dems have a bigger role to play in the last 3 years! Blinded ??? I think not!
Go TP/GOP. I love it when you embarrass yourselves even more. It must hurt to be a rightwingnut christian, all those contradictory concepts in your head.
Keep guessing IMHO ... you know what happens when you ASSume. Just a rational person ... unlike you.
Now the president single handedly tripled the debt...............niggapleaze
Astonished.
Though I was not addressing you unless you are working two accounts(you do appear unhappy), I will respond to you as if you do.
I am not forgiving ANY pf the Professional Politicians. You are. Which is to what I refer you as blinded. BOTH Parties are responsible. Much of the deficit was by Obama continuing Bush's TARP and Too Big Too Fail bull@!$%#. I saw through Obama before he was sworn in, but as with W, gave him a chance to show his true colors. But he is not the Socialist, Muslim, Communist, Indonesian, Kenyan, Apologist, Too Weak, Too Strong, Too Militaristic, Not Militaristic Enough Bobble head you Republicans have continuouslymorphed absolutely FALSE misinformation about nonstop since he put McCain/Palin away in '08. The POTUS has given your team about every victory he could without looking fully like a Republican, and y'all keep on frothing as he keeps your 'temporary' tax cuts, wars, drilling expansion, Terrorist killing, Military Spending, Bank-forgiving, Nation Building, and Wall Street Boosting ways and much of the things you hold dear.
Just not at a quite breakneck enough speed for you to stop bitching.
About how your guys are the Solution.
Riiight.
And NOW you bozos can actually even slightly dare open your traps to defend this latest crop of the sleaze and incompetence you call the Republican Presidential Contenders?!?!?!?!?!
You MUST be blinded.
They are ALL in it for themselves primarily. And NONE of them suffer at the hands of their decisions, as long as they satisfy the Lobbyists-Paid Demands and pass/support Legislation favorable to the Benefactors of Industry. And this contingent of clowns will not be able to displace President Obama any more than Kerry was going to win over W. With no Swift-boating necessary this time by the Dems. These ReTeaglicans are just as happy to slice their own political throats in front of an incredulous Nation...
Keep talking like your opinions are the whole truth. You may keep yourself/selves convinced.
What makes me shed a tear is that the possibilty exists that one of 'em even has a chance to become President of the United States of America.
That is very sad.
Peace
Fair enough notsojingo, nice post.
Appreciate that FG2.0. I have enjoyed many of your posts as well. Sometimes the shills force me to spell it out in detail for them, as in this case.
The Fix is In; as far as options go, we are at the mercy of preordained distractions while the Big Money Machine rolls on down the DC Pike, right through K Street. Change my ass. We will be hanging onto our meager existence and liking it, as far as Washington is concerned. It is not impossible to get by with above normal income and sound savings/investment planning, but not for most. I hold no grudge against successful individuals, in fact, I congratulate their hard work and good fortune! For many of us just one unforeseeable financial or health disaster puts us into an unrecoverable plight of ruined credit, collection agents, and foreclosure notices, if you're lucky! And upward mobility is becoming a closed door with each and every day. OWS's message will be summarily squashed and dismissed just as those demonstrating against the Viet Nam War and NWO by the Establishment as Anarchists with no validity.
As the 1% keeps getting fatter and fatter by sucking the Life Force from the Rest of Us.
I never thought my retirement would only be possible if I won the Lottery!
Peace, and FR Sent!
(-:
Unhappy, (#5.3) you’re either uninformed or outright lying. Obama didn’t triple the debt, it went from the 10 trillion area to the 14 trillion area. How can you claim tripled?
Besides that, the majority of that increased debt is due to the ongoing costs of the bush tax cuts, the wars and the unfunded drug plan all left by bush to be handled by someone else.
And don’t even bother with the, “they’re Obama’s tax cuts now” because the only reason some of them didn’t get cut was because the Republican’s were holding a gun to the head of the unemployed in order to keep the tax cuts in place for their masters.
Unhappy has the habit of making wildly unsupportable statements, and when asked for substantiation, launches juvenile attacks the person making the inquiry.
He or she is a troll.
For any candidate, it is nice to see the human side of them when they talk about issues which everyone faces in life.
Human....please these people are a very bad joke, they put on a nice show for the folks.
When do these idiots plan on showing their human side?
No,it's pathetic period. They should not be telling such personal stories to the whole nation.
I have never cheated on my wife and kids.
They don't face any of the issues that the middle class and lower class Americans face. Millionaires and billionaires all of them. Maybe Ron Paul comes closes to facing life with he=is early onset of Alzheimer's! How many of us worry about $7 million dollar homes or a $1,000,000 line of credit at Tiffany's!
clwyd,
They face the same problems you do, my friend. In fact they face more. They work for a living! They've created jobs! They actually believe in indvidual freedom not your crappy Socialistic European nanny state. Get a job! If you can't find one ... create one! Then after that hire someone. There's millions of immigrants that somehow find a way to do that. Figure it out and quit your Left wing drivel!
Religious beliefs and personal beliefs are simply that, personal. They in no way indicate how a candidate would decide policy. What is so confounding is the positions these people are advocating are so contrary to basic human decency. It's surreal.
What they claim to know about morality and God is their justification to oppress everyone else under their rule.
Lord, save me from your followers.
How do we know God forgave them for breaking their marriage vows, maybe they just forgave themselves. Why bring Jesus into politics I don't believe he has ever endorsed a single candidate ever.
@ Forrest Grump 2.0
God forgave everyones sins. All sin has been forgiven. Forgiveness of sin is not salvation however. Recieving the Holy Spirit through acceptance of Jesus the Christ, the one who died to forgive all sin, is how salvation occurs. God no longer holds anyones sins against them if they just accept Jesus sacrifice.
You are correct Jesus does not endorse candidates. He, as God incarnate puts into office whomever he chooses, to serve His purposes and for His ultimate glory.
You all thought it was your vote that did that didn't you?
If you can break vows to Jesus and be forgiven by just asking, why make the vow in the first place?
I understand what you mean. Perhaps we should of asked President Clinton when we had the chance?
Unhappy how about if we ask Obama if he cheated.....I will bet that he didn't.....He seems like a good father and husband....But that isn't good enough for you is it ? because of his major difference in appearance compared to your sunday school class at the first church of hate (FCH)....
How about asking Clinton , Roslyn , Johnson , Kennedy .
Johnson and all of the kennedys are in heaven...soooooo what is your point none of them are running are they ?
The only people who should be crying are the American people due to the very bad "candidates" the Teapublican-GOP have put forth. A bunch of really awful un-informed, flip flopping dopes.
This bunch is the worst Repub candidates I have ever seen.Such personal stories displayed for all of America to see, they should all be ashamed.I guess they are taking their cues from Mr. Bonehead.
And Maria, anyone of them will drill the worst president ever to inhabit the White House. Count on it.
No, they won't.
Dasvet you meant " First " not " Worst" as in first black,, Riiiiigghhtt?
I doesn't tink so, cheesysteak. WORST, no contest.
Blowhard cowards don't know nuttin' 'bout no cheeeesessteak beeeyotch!!!!!!1
Yowser, Cheesy!
Obviously, Romney and Huntsman are the most sane of this bunch, choosing to be absent. Can you imagine (for those that remember) Kennedy and Nixon in a venue like this? What a sad bunch of mediocre, unqualifed candidates.
Well yeah, I can certainly imagine Nixon. Didn't he weep in public when he got caught with his fingers in the pie?
they talk like a bunch of TV Evangelists... meanwhile they have their hands out to the corporations, and Wall Street for the "candy" they were promised. They make me sick.
Even more mind-boggling than these misfit candidates are the people on newsvine who are fighting to defend the reputations of these absolute losers. The blindness to these naked emperors is very sad indeed.
With the exceptions of Huntsman and Romney, whom you could pretty much trust not to steal your silver or soil your carpet, Richard Nixon looks strangely good when compared to these self-righteous, know-nothing evangelical losers.
For all his misdeeds and opportunism, Nixon was a brilliant self-made man, with a keen interest in history and world politics. In the end, he was a tragic figure, whereas today's GOP is mostly composed of repulsive pipsqueaks.
In fact, by modern Greedy Obnoxious Party standards, Nixon starts to seem like... oh my god, call the irony police... a COMMUNIST.
Romney's done, That Pedophile loving creep shouldn't be elected dog crap catcher.
One republican hypocrite after another trying to Out-God the other. Pathetic trash.
Democrats are no better ---
Democrats don't sit around a phony thanksgiving table crying over the mess they've made of their lives due to lousy decisions. At least, not publicly.
Ron Paul didn't cry about his lousy life he was the exact opposite of the rest, and from what I saw was the only sane candidate there.
I loved it when he stood up and told a very sincere looking gentleman that he would not support a marriage amendment, but he does support doma and that it should be decided at the state level not something the federal Government should be involved in,
basically he said it should be taken to the church and family. Best answer given on the subject.
The rest were pandering for votes and looking like horses asses.
Remember when we were all feted on the Obozo saga? How come the in the tank--lame stream media didnt explore his grounding in hard core Communism? They all claim to be journalists.
Egilman: how is he different? He simply ducks the issue by saying if you live in certain states, there should be no point to demanding any civil rights...We don't work that waly in this country and that's one of the many reasons Paul is so irrelevant.
Lucy: that tin foil hat is really in need of some loosening. Channeling Richard Nixon AND the vast left wing media conspiracy all at once??LOL.
AP-1414066
It is difficult to explain faith and solid moral conviction to someone that doesn't have any.
Racism is a moral conviction of the right that's all we need to know.
Yep, unfortunately, it's also a moral conviction of the left also.
I don't CARE about a candidate's personal lives. I don't care if they are Christian, Muslim, Wicca or espouse no religion at all (possibly preferable).
What I DO care about is WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO ABOUT THE ECONOMY how how they are going to help rid this country of the extremism that's ruining it.
The rest is all stuff and nonsense.
Beth.. that is because it is Wall Street that makes sure they have cover for most of their indiscretions, they have money to run with and that they owe Wall Street favors... they aren't Christians, they are wolves in sheeps clothing.
How dare you denegrate wolves in such a manner! And sheep for that matter!
Beth, If you do not know the spirit of a person, you do not know the person. I think the lesson of 2008 is that you really need to know the whole person, not the image that people want you to have.
Most of the stories I see here are well known, and it is interesting to hear each's take on those events.
Historically, Americans elect the leader they feel most comfortable with. But then cynics never feel comfortable with anyone but themselves.
Who would want any of these unbalanced crybabies near the nuclear launch codes?
Who really wants Obama near the launch codes - Your assumption that he is okay is just as bad as your assumption that these guys aren't.
I disagree. Until the advent of trash TV, we did a pretty good job of electing people without seeing them crying all over the place and having religious conversions.
This is simply a way for them to pander to what they consider to be their base.
I believe if we spent more time looking into what they have DONE, their RECORD, and less time worrying about what god they believe in or not believe in, we'd elect better people. Very few of this group could stand up to that sort of scrutiny - that's why they'd rather whimper.
DB: watching a bunch of self-righteous blowhards cry and wear their religious commitments on their sleeve for votes, does nothing to tell you about the "spirit" of a person, unless it's by the common sense conclusion they must not have any moral center at all to pander like this. Who wants Obama near the launch codes?? Anyone who is extemelly grateful to at long last have an intelligent grownup in the oval office. (that would be the millions who voted him in and will vote to keep him in.)
Right on AP.....And I totally disagree with Akron over the launch codes like I hope most people do....I think the right-wing nuts are scared because he might not use them without thinking and by unwaveringly agreeing with the Curtis Lemay types who have wanted to blow up the commies and who ever else since we first have them....Notice they always say " Blow it to kingdome come." Well that's exactly what they wanna do....."Bring on the rapture" they say....
I would hope to think we have somebody in there who has a family that he loves and isn't a right-wing nut on a rusty old wheel,,on a rusty old frame,,of a rusty old racist truck... Who would extirminate an entire race because they look different or worship differrently or not at all....To hell-fire and damnation with those folks....So they don't blow us.....
"To Kingdome Come"
The only one of the Bumch that could be considered outrightly self-righteous, would have been Newt, and that would be the Newt of the 90's.
A better indication of someone who is self-righteous and self-serving would be someone standing up telling the American people to check the air in their tires (when so many cars are now equipped with tire pressure reading sensors and tires hold air pressure so much better) and everyone needs to take their car in for regular tune ups (a tune-up for cars has been 100,000 miles for cars manufactured after 2000). That's being arrogant and out of touch.
Akron I don't drive a mercedes with computer controled tire-pressure and self parking and my truck and car are pre 2000 and so are my neighbors we work for a living and most used the good fuel economy measures thankfully and wisefully..
All he has is air pressue of tires and tune ups? LMAO
Where is Jimmy Swaggert when you need him?
Is he still alive, or is he toasting marshmellows with Jim Bakker?
Jimmy Swaggert could beat Obama in 2012.
No but he could win the crackpot GOP nomination..
philly, it doesn't matter who the GOP candidate is. Obama's record is all that matters, and rumors are that we aren't doing very well economically, and have gone have gone wildly downhill as a matter of fact, since the teleprompter was elected.. Swaggert is more truthful than Obama, which isn't saying much, I know.
Before Bush I worked as much as I wanted...When I wanted to and if I worked harder and faster and learned more...I got paid more...Now I can't hardly work at all and for less...With no benifits at all including sick days, holidays or vacation..paid.....so wtf are you talking about?
OWS doesn't pay well? You should organize a strike against Obama's OWS and demand better working conditions, five weeks vacation after one year, seventy dollars and hour should be be your minimum starting point. Some might say, you are getting paid what you are really worth right now. Obama isn't going to get you a job, unless he can work out a TDY to China for you.
I don't work for OWS and I didn't say I needed a job...And that would be okay pay in todays economy...And fair vacation to use for whatever holiday or sickday I want...And if the jobs bill passes I will be working overtime on infrastructure projects...And if the taxcuts for the rich expire they will have to invest, pay the employees more so they don't show high profits or pay higher taxes that's that jack.....
I don't get why all these people keep saying that the OWS people just need to go get jobs. Isn't that the point of this whole protest??? Because they can't get jobs that are worth anything. The previous generation told us to go to college and get a good education. Then we could get good jobs and make a nice, honest living for ourselves. But the jobs aren't there after you graduate. Not unless you are going into a highly specialized field. I think I'll be mostly ok because I expect to get into medical school...but some of my Biology classmates are not going to be able to find jobs with their Bachelor's Degree. We pay money (granted, with government help because we go to a state college) to receive an education that will help us better ourselves. But the system is corrupt. My mom works her ass off everyday at WalMart because it's one of the few good places to work in our town. She has crappy health care (THAT SHE PAYS FOR OUT OF HER CHECK) provided by WalMart...but when she needed an MRI for excruciating stomach pains, she almost didn't get one because we couldn't pay $3000 up front. Luckily, the person doing the check-in at the ER was a friend, and we got something worked out. The hospital would have TURNED HER AWAY if she hadn't been able to pay that!
I thought all Americans were entitled to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. What is Life (in a biological sense) if you are not allowed to remain healthy? Many people DO work for what they have, but it ends up not being enough because many times, the people who have everything only want more, more, more. We survived on $20,000 a year (my 2 sisters, my mother, and I) for a long time...with the help of government assistance. Thanks to that assistance and thanks to my education, I might be able to give that back one day...hopefully tenfold. But some people aren't that lucky. Some people don't have the "above average intelligence" I have been told all my life that I have. It wasn't something I worked to have (though I have worked hard to maintain it). It was something I was mostly born with. Should those not fortunate enough to be born with unique gifts be put out to pasture?? I hope not. All of you will realize one day that the 99% of the people who make up this country that are not super rich are the ones who hold the country up. Where would all of the rich be without people who built their homes...people who paved their roads...people who fought wars for them???
I understand that people who work hard should be rewarded. I don't hate wealthy people. Some of my favorite people in the entire world are wealthy, but I'm fairly certain they give back (without being too showy about it). But some people need to realize that the wealthiest one percent of Americans are paying less taxes than they have ever paid in a time when our country can't afford that loss in revenue. WE are the government. WE are America! Those 1% are America. Can't you see that without taxes America doesn't exist?!?! I'll be happy to pay my fair share when I start bringing in an income. It is expected of me. It is a duty. It is me paying for the country I live in. The government only has what we give them. Will it really hurt a multimillionaire at all to raise their taxes by 4%? No. Would that hurt someone who made $20,000 dollars a year? You bet you sweet arse it would!
I don't understand why everyday Americans listen to these jokes who use GOD to trick people into believing they are good people. They won't help America. I can say I'm a Christian all day long, but if I don't show that in my actions, those words are empty. These people don't care about America. They don't care about you, and they don't care about me. They care about lining their pockets with money. I hate to see all the spite brought out by the division of wealth in this country. All people can do is lay blame along party lines. I'm not an economist, but even I can see that cutting spending AND raising taxes is better than just doing one. Why can't Congressmen agree on that?
Actually the OWS people do have jobs.
Employed by Soros!
Oh My God! Did these people ever hear of a confessional? This is so pathetic
OMG, Do you suppose everyone is a catholic? Bobbi dahlin', you be pathetic.
So they cried and got forgiven. Geez, now that is impressive if your appealing to the Evangelicals. But to most Americans, that is a show with a little tears. Just what are these Republicans thinking? Two men who have questionable sexual addictions and the one who asked for a divorce from his wife on her deathbed. If they think that way in their personal lives, could anyone trust them in the White House?
NO!
Are you kidding? If you were sitting around the table having a cup of coffee with that bunch you couldn't trust them with the bill. How could you trust them with anything important?
The problem I see with so many Christians who a vying for forgiveness - is that they seem to need forgiving a whole lot more than the average non-believer does. And forgiving one of these clowns is like slapping the hand of the guy waiting outside the wrestling ring; this is just ugly tag-team proselytizing.
I see it completely different. A non-believer wouldn't ask for forgiveness. They would still think they were in the right even after they screwed everybody over; which is why I don't trust a lot of these democrats. Too many non-believers.
True christians, on the other hand, operate on a sliding scale of morality based upon hypocritical self-interest, and therefore they can justify any crime, no matter how foul, by bending the scriptures in their holy book to fit their immediate needs. Just ask the true christians at the Westboro Baptist Church, Harold Camping the multi-millionaire Doomsday Prophet, or the pederast priests of the catholic church, and they will give you pointers, Unhappy. You don't appear to have any compunctions against lying to fabricate facts to conform to your fantasies so I imagine you to be a true christian, too.
Oh, Unhappy. First, many non-atheists think that your candidates are empty nutbags.
But let's assume for the sake of discussion that all non-evangelical Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Dread Muslims, pagans, Zoroastrians, agnostics, etc. are "non-believers." Relax and take pleasure in the fact that the overwhelming majority of us Non-Believers take responsibility for our own actions.
People who do not do that are dangerous sociopaths, as are people who directly or indirectly cause harm to others, set up equations to loot pensions, deny insurance claims, or claim that God speaks personally to them. People who get in public and cry about their creepy personal lives are just pathetic.
Unhappy. No wonder you are unhappy. You seem to believe you live in a theocracy. (hint: you don't, and real Americans don't actually want to see their Presidential candidates pretending they're running for preacher in chief because they actually know the difference in a democracy.)
You suppose.
A non-believer probably doesn't need to as for forgiveness. Seems the "Christians" need it on a daily basis.
tea party is like a giant fart with no air all caca
idiot..............
There was a Teaparty in the mid twentieth century too...You oughta research about that..
Republicans are an embarrassment to humanity.
This is what gets me with this crowd. Thump on the bible all the while not telling the truth on the campaign trail. They are all for religion in government as long as it is THEIRS. That's a dangerous path to take. We try for democracy for the rest of the world, but when it comes to our own we want the bible to be boss instead of a democratic constitution. If they were such good christians they wouldn't be bashing someone who is really trying to make things better for ALL.
I may be just as bad for saying what I say but I'm  not thumping on the bible trying to get elected president either. Forrest Grump is right. Enough already.
Excuse me, Ron Paul said he didn't want any religious affectations in government the constitution forbids it.
What he also said is that he will take his god given honesty and moral convictions with him if he is elected.
So lumping him with the others does a disservice to your credibility.
Paul doesn't get a pass just because he doesn't talk like a self-righteous fundamentalist. His "let everyone decide" is just a code for letting the same people prey on the same people. We don't put civil rights or constitutional rights up to majority will in this country. Paul is irrelevant for a good reason.
There will be many surprises on judgement day.
AP-1414066
Actually he said he would stand for every ones civil AND Moral rights no matter what their particular beliefs are.
You can claim all you want that he is the same, but most people that are not wearing liberal blinders see it differently.
He is not the same as the rest, no matter how many time you repeat it.
Take it easy liberals ... it was a "Thanksgiving" forum. Isn't giving thanks ok on this occasion? Silly me, any mention of God just pushes your buttons, doesn't it?
We will be really grateful if they just go away...Really!
They were only giving thanks because their wives haven't caught them yet and they're still out of jail...so far.
It pushes my button because they claim to be christians. But don't walk the walk.
Go GreyDog!!
These Pharisees and their Lobbyists don't like the OWS message, but that is only good news.
Jesus offended the powerful, too.
this flatlander clown show is becoming boring, if you don't believe me, ask yourself where is Feisty? Does she only post during the week?
I could care less about their beliefs, but more about who is going to get the economy going and create jobs. They call Ron Paul crazy but at least he doesn't want to assassinate American citizens and wipe his a$$ with the constitution.
Obama has done both, and any of the other 7 republicans candidates woud do the same.
At one point I was SURE that Ron Paul was a nut case but the more I read about what he speaks of the more I began to understand why we're in the situation we're in today as a nation. Instead or repeating what other say people should actually research what Ron Paul speaks of , I believe that if more did so we can get the country back on track .
God bless America !
Moderated by pollster Frank Luntz, the go to guy for finding out how to refer to pure crap in a way that makes it sound palatable...this was right up his alley.
Frank Luntz, is the Dean, Republican School of Hatred, Fear Mongering, and filthy low-level politics. In Frank's school, the candidates are taught to preach, "Do as What I say, and don't do as What I do."
You bunch of morons should be crying for the millions obama has out of work and no jobs in site even with the trillions he has spent. Of course you all know its still George Ws fault. Illegals running across our borders at their whim. no jobs homeless growing daily but yet you want to put down people that are sick of it. You losers keep it up and stay in your parents nice warm basement because none of you have sense to find a job in the real world.
Larry, maybe you should just take a page from the GOP's campaign handbook and simply say, Waaaaaaaaaaahhhh!
You losers keep it up and stay in your parents nice warm basement because none of you have sense to find a job in the real world
Really? Can't you come with a better line than that? Do you really think that ALL Democrats are living off the hard working Republlicans? Please stop for a minute and think about what you are writing. Your comment sounds just as pathetic as those of the Republican leaders.
I just love "Larry the cable guy", he's so funny !!
Sure sure sure Newt....save your BS for the deaf blind and mute

You're part of the problem......
Why? Because he thinks they stink - or just because of the way he expressed it?
because of the way he expressed it, low class is low class no matter which political affiliation you are.
low-class synonym=liberals who mock someone else's religion.
