WEBSTER CITY, Iowa -- Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann suggested Newt Gingrich was "shilling" for Freddie Mac in his career since stepping down as Speaker of the House.
Seizing on a report that Gingrich -- or, at least, his consulting firm -- received at least $1.6M in fees from the mortgage lending giant from 1999-2008, Bachmann told an Iowa audience that she was a candidate of a different sort.
"Whether former speaker Gingrich made 300-thousand dollars, or whether he made $2 million dollars, the point is he took money to also influence senior Republicans to be favorable toward Fannie and Freddie," Bachmann told reporters. "I want them ended...I wasn't shilling for them, I was fighting for them."
Gingrich acknowledged an extended relationship between his consulting firm and Freddie Mac, one of two mortgage giants (the other being Fannie Mae) forced into government conservatorship in part due to their support of subprime lending practices. Since that point, they've become a favorite bogeyman of conservatives.
Gingrich wasn't the only focus of Bachmann's criticism on Wednesday; she was critical of President Obama's plan to boost the U.S. military presence in Australia. Obama, who's traveling to Australia, said that 2,500 troops would be stationed there. It was an announcement interpreted as a move to curb China's growing influence in the Pacific.
After seeming to be taken off-guard by a question in the morning ("Are you kidding? For what reason?" she responded to a question.) about the new stationing development, Bachmann struck a more critical note in the afternoon.
"The president has put us in Libya. He put us in Uganda. Do you know about that war? We're at another war there, at the request of Uganda. And now, Australia. It's like, what is going on with this guy? Mr. anti-war has put us in what, three more locations, two of which are wars?" she said in response to a question in Webster City.
In response to a question from NBC, she explained afterward: "This is a new issue and that's something that we'll weigh in on. But again it shows that this president has no hesitancy when it comes to utilizing his military, whatever his purposes are, completely incoherent."
Meanwhile, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum said in Iowa that he commended Obama for the troop placement in Australia.

Marcus Bachmann’s clinic has taken $137,000 in Medicaid funds and an additional $24,000 in federal and state funds. This is in addition to the $260,000 in federal dairy and corn subsidies that she has taken for the family dairy farm, and let’s not forget her $174,000 annual salary plus benefits that she receives as a member of Congress. All of this adds up to over $1.1 million in taxpayer money that she or her husband has received, not counting benefits, since she was elected to Congress.

Not so long ago I read a story when Libya was making headlines with NATO. And Romney was in a hotel hallway with his wife. The media asked him what he thought about Libya at the time and he didn't have an answer for the media.
And the media realized immediately that it was because Romney hadn't seen how Libya was going to play out. He was playing it safe.
So he told the media that a hotel hallway wasn't a place to discuss Libya and walked off.

It is truly sad when some like Bachmann puts her own career interests above those of the country. She has shown her colors, just another politician hungry for power and with little bottom to the depths she will go to in order to grab power. She, as the others should do as well, tell of us what changes she will implement not look for opportunities to degrade fellow conservatives. Pox on this campaign and any future campaign she may mount.

If you look closely,for instance when Cain was struggling to answer the Libya question.or when Michelle has that"I super glued my eyes open look",they seem to be channeling, My theory is that this is when they are receiving signals from the Mothership,. China is going to need natural resources along with farmland, and has more than enough extra young men and money to gear up for the job. An outpost of US troops in Australia is an excellent idea; now China can't make a play for Australia's resources without an unplanned confrontation with the US. What's Bachmann's plan? Wait for China to over-run Australia then send US troops across the Pacific to fight in China's backyard at a big numbers disadvantage? This country is in big trouble if this bimbo somehow pulls one out of her a## and ends up in the White House.

Yes, Bachmann is not shilling for Fanny and Freddie but she and all the rest of the GOP is shilling for the Koch Bros and ALEC. Who funded the Tea Party and her campaign? What a joke the Repubs are and if they had not done so much damage to the country shilling (that is a nice way of putting it) for the far right special interests and being obstructionists to helping the working class, it would be funny. However, she and her fellow tools for the Kochs are not funny anymore.
