Cain said nothing to see in his closet

Back in March, Herman Cain reassured conservative bloggers in a conference call that there weren’t any skeletons in his closet.

“They’re gonna find that I have a 20 handicap, and it has never gotten lower,” he joked, according to audio posted by The Daily Caller. “They’re gonna find that in my closet. Other than them finding that I have a mediocre golf game -- I play just well enough in order to be able to enjoy it.”

But note as he goes through the litany of things one could look for in a closet, he’s very specific and never mentions a sexual harassment financial agreement. In fact, he says, “If they come up with something and try to damage my reputation, they will have made it up.”

That’s one way he has tried to swat away the allegations in this current controversy.

Cain said on the call in March that other than his mediocre golf game, “I can assure you, I have an original copy of my birth certificate. I don’t have any illegitimate babies. I don’t have any mistresses. You know, you tick 'em off, and I can tell you. … I have never been arrested. I’ve never gotten a DUI warrant. Uh, absolutely none of that…”

“So, no, I don’t have any of those kind of skeletons in my closet and what I have told people, if they come up with something and try to damage my reputation, they will have made it up.”

Nothing to see inside Cain's closet ... and even less inside Cain himself.

The popover candidate is simply a hollow shell puffed up with hot air

He says he doesn't need any substantive policy positions, either foreign or domestic. He'll worry about that when the time comes, he said.

Yeah, like at 3 a.m. .....

He displays astonishing ignorance of the job of the President, and the concerns of the world - and by brushing that off, displays astonishing arrogance.

That same arrogance now leads him to brush off a spreading scandal and disrespect the entire nation with his denials, retractions, and "clarifications."

Although the election junkies howl with glee at the prospect of Cain getting the Republican nomination, I can't join them. His continuing participation in the electoral process only increases public disgust with our institutions and further alienates many from participating.

Herman Cain is an abomination.

What kind of silly question is that? Feisty is not running for President of the US. Cain might as well be claiming a technical difference on the definition of "is".

I don't know if First Read existed when Bill was crushing the cheeks in the White House, but I'm certain if it was folks would have been on him like stink on doodoo.

Watching the Republicans run for the GOP nomination is a hoot! We've all got front-row seats!

It's like a nationwide turd contest. In the end, Republicans will be left running a piece of s**t they don't believe in with Romney. Obama will easily clean the floor with the previously defeated Romney, who by now, must feel like the ugliest girl at the dance.

This really isn't even a serious race. The GOP candidates are all losers. Everyone hates the tea baggers now too. I'll even bet that Democrats gain the house back.

The real good news is, that Hillary Clinton gets to be our President from 2016 through 2020. She is immediately electable.

Then, Republicans may have a chance, if they've found a decent candidate by 2020.

John A

Chill!

You are seeing the inside of the most magnificent political sausage factory in the World. Sure the big money special interests are able to field their candidates. But their picks are not protected from the unrelenting scrutiny of the media and political investigators. And if the media misses a detail, the opposing candidates are more than happy to point it out.

The result is that most of the warts and pimples are painfully exposed. More importantly, how the candidates handle the sometimes petty harassment gives us critical insight into their characters. The voters ultimately make the final decisions about whose indiscretions will be forgiven or ignored.

A brutal sand blasting to be sure, but necessary to vet the candidates hoping to assume the leadership of the Free World.

Mr. Cain's participation in the contest is a legitimate display of the effectiveness of public and media scrutiny of the candidates. It is still up to the voters to decide the import of these issues.

The meteoric rise and fall of three GOP candidates (Donald, Michelle, Cowboy Ricky) and now maybe Mr. Cain only demonstrates that nobody is getting a free pass.

Celebrate this unique American ritual, don't be disgusted by the process.

Gee Bob, if the women "go public" with their names, you know what will happen to them (as though anything ANY woman says now against Cain would be believed by his supporters?). There is a paper record of these accusations that led to the payoff in at least two of these cases, in exchange for their silence. That should be released by the association with their names redacted and the association can verify the reports themselves. (not that any of that would be believed by the extremists, but for the majority of people who would like to know just what happened, that would certainly be informtive.) (and what Democrat in their right mind would want CAIN out?? He's the best thing that's happening to the further implosion on the right since Sarah Palin took offense at being asked what she reads.)

I don't think it's fair, but that's the way that Herman wanted it. I would venture a guess that they are now receiving even more payments from Cain and his supporters, to stay silent, because five figures was OK when you were an administrative person at the National Restraurant Association, but now that you've been sexually harassed by a GOP Presidential candidate, the price goes up. It's free market- free enterprise, the GOP Holy Grail, coming back to bite them in the ass.

The ironic thing is that compared to Rick Perry's closet Herman Cain's closet is relatively empty.

Just wait until Herman fades out and Perry becomes the default anti-Romney candidate. Perry has enough closet issues that are barely hidden that he stands no chance in the general election. It has recently been shown that the big Republican money from Texas is NOT going to Perry, it is going to Romney. Why? Because Rick has issues.

        Memo to Herman Cain:

It's not the skeletons that we're concerned about. It's the real life women that you've silenced with money. It's saying that those defenseless women were lousy employees, but not accepting responsibility for hiring them or employing them in the first place. It's your snooty attitude to the press and your condescending attitude to the poor. It's your crazy 999 plan that leaves the federal Treasury shorter of funds by 265 billion dollars and raises my taxes, while lowering the total taxes on the wealthiest Americans. And then it's the switching to the 909 plan to make everything even worse, once the lower income people got a whiff of what you were doing. It's not knowing the names of the leaders in countries that the US has a vested interest in.

Those are the things that concern us. Not skeletons and golf scores.....

The reason Mr. Cain hasn't come clean is because he can't possibly come clean. There is no plausible explanation for three separate women claiming sexual harassment and having to be paid off, and Mr. Cain's unwillingness to discuss it, except that Mr. Cain is an indiscriminate lecherous bully.

But, irregardless of that fact, he is an incompetent boob and deserves to be rejected by virtue of his public policy positions alone on 999, or 909, or whatever this week's sham economic proposals are.

That being said, I hope he wins the GOP nomination.

        Monetfan,

Those payments were only tiny in light of the fact that they were administrative personnel at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990's. Given Herman Cain's largesse since, these women may want to reconsider and tell their side of the story now that they are being portrayed as incompetents. I hope they do get a chance to clear their names. My guess is that Herman, or his campaign supporters will make a few more payments to keep them quiet.

What they can't cover over are his ridiculous public policy statements and plans. In the meantime, we need to give GOP supporters some things that they can understand, sex, violence, and mindless slogans.

Politico finally reported what the second woman received as a payment - and had to clarify what the first woman got.

Both - in legal circles - are known as "nuisance fees" - because of their tiny $$ amount. If a sexual harassment charge is considered to have merit the award is in the six figures - if not more.

            Woman #1 received $45,000 and Woman #2 received $35,000.

Herman Cain has consistently failed to be truthful. This situation continues to deteriorate for Mr. Cain. The scandal is clearly worse than we currently know, or that Cain is letting on. The media has a duty to pursue this story until we know the full truth. What's worse, the Republican Party and its voting base seems to have no conscience and treats these disturbing incidents at the hands of Herman Cain as something to be laughed off, or fingered as a liberal smear. Sexual harassment is serious business. http://www.sunstateactivist.org

"Nothing to see in his closet"

Isn't that the same thing J Edgar Hoover said?

Well, Well well! Mr. Herman Cain, now you are beginning feel just 10% 0f the pain that the first black president is feeling. Didn't you know that you was on the wrong side of the fence. They will let you go to the fence, but that is as far as you can go over. What made you think you could cross. Well brother let me educate you. When Obama, took office, from day one they had already made up there mind, that they was no t going to let him lead, and they have toss everyone road block they could toss at him. He was given one of the biggest messes of any president in the last 100 years, and they are scared that he just might get it right and they can't have that, because every president before him, was white, and for him to come into office and get things done that couldn't get, or didn't want to get done. No! they can't let that happen. Did you really think, they would let you of all people, have a chance at the nomination. Well if you did, you are stupid than I through you were. You saying things, like all black people are brainwashed, you are the one that been brainwashed, on a promise. So I say to you Mr, Cain, take your 6 million, and go and buy you some sense, and while you at it, get educated, because you're you are a F@@@ing idiot. I'm a black man, and I grew up on a farm, and pick cotton for a living. I served my country for 20 years, and raise four children, and they are all college graduates, my oldest graduated from Harvard, and I'm also a college graduate, and the government haven't given me one thin dime, so if you call that being brainwash, then I am. So Mr. Cain go back and make some more pizza, because you have let everyone know that's the only thing you would be good at. President! you must be kidding.

OK - read the article again. Back in March, ole Hermie knew that these sexual harrassment issues were going to surface. "So, no I don't have any of those kind of skeletons in my closet, and what I have told people, if they come up with something and try to damage my reputation, they will have made it up." Haha, of course he was trying to do a "cover my a$$" thing, because eventually someone was going to dig up this story. And sorry, you rightie wingnuts, it wasn't the lamestream media. It was the Republicans eating their own.

When Cain said don't look for any skeleton's in the closet, he forgot all about the pile of used rubbers he has.

That's because Cain keeps his woman locked up under his bed, not in the closet.

So WHY not open the door to your closet and let us take a peek Herman?

Look, Cain can spin it any way he wants

When his victims come forth and give us their side of the story ...that is what will determine what Herman has in his closet

That is not much different than what the authority in the Catholic church does with Pedophile priests

They pay the victims off .... and chuffle those child molesting priests around to mother congregations or parishes
