Cain dismisses sex allegations as a 'witch hunt'

Herman Cain continued to deny any wrongdoing related allegations made against him that he sexually harassed two women during his days as head of the National Restaurant Association, dismissing the accusations as a "witch hunt."

"I told you this bull's eye on my back has gotten bigger,” Cain said emphatically during an appearance at the National Press Club in Washington. "We have, I have no idea the source of this witch hunt -- and that’s what this is."

When asked about it at the start of the question-and-answer session, Cain said, “I would be delighted to clear the air.”

He reiterated what he said on FOX earlier: “I have never sexually harassed anyone. … I was accused of sexual harassment, falsely accused, I might add.”

He said he recused himself from the National Restaurant Association’s investigation of the accusations, saying it was handled by Human Resources and the association’s general counsel.

Cain claimed the investigation concluded that there was no wrongdoing on his part. But, he said, for him “enough said about the issue” and he would not be working with the restaurant association to release more information. (It’s not clear he could anyway because of confidentiality agreements.)

He also reiterated that despite being chief executive officer he was “unaware of a settlement that came out of that accusation.” And he joked again that he hoped the accusers didn’t get much, because, “I have never sexually harassed anyone. Those accusations are totally false.”

The National Restaurant Association today released the following statement:

“The incidents in question relate to personnel matters that allegedly took place nearly fifteen years ago. Consistent with our longstanding policy, we don’t comment on personnel issues relating to current or former employees,” said Sue Hensley, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Communications for the National Restaurant Association.

*** UPDATE *** Cain sang a few bars of a gospel song to close out his remarks.

I've been waiting for the 'story' that would show him to be the 'man' I've seen in every clip, insulting, demeaning, nasty, angry, defensive and morally 'questionable', (he protests TOO much about everything!).

This is just a matter of time. Unsure about the mental stability of his followers, they seem to 'miss the obvious', which is that he's arrogant, bossy and ugly in most things he says, criticizes anyone/everyone who disagrees or even QUESTIONS him about nearly everything. He's way off base but don't tell him, he really thinks he can beat up another Repub or at least, Obama, never happen, ever, ever, but he's so full of himself and his loopy 'camp mgr', (the former crook who was convicted of voter irregularities/campaign cash' and barred from ANY politics for five yrs. Hermie picked just the right guy..smoking, defending, playing games w/words. IF Hermie is brought down, which he will be, then Smokin' Joe is out of a job'..can't wait.

Better than the fighting and the bully Nancy Grace on 'DWTS'..really! Clarence Thomas after all, IS his idol. They're twins aren't they? L

The trouble with t-bag trash & replicans

They do not know the differrance between a Justice of the Supreme Court nominee and a candidate to be the President of the United States of America.

They want to use the old Constitution. The one before the Amendments were added.

Doctor tell them they have to give up 50% of their sex life.

Manchild wants to know which half.

Thinking about it or talking about it.

Getting paid off means nothing now adays. I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN WOMEN, PARTICULALLY BLACK WOMEN, PLAY THIS HARRASSMENT GAME AND THE COMPANIES FIND OUT IT IS MUCH CHEAPER TO PAY THEM OFF THAN TO FIGHT IT. Between the lawyers and the bad PR it is unfortunately the best route. Look at the Duke students. Their parents spent millions in legal fees to defend those kids from a piece of trash that eventually ended up in prision for, I believe, an assault or murder. There is no downside for the accuser. Such is the state of our "justice system". We're not looking for a perfect person for president, just a competent one. If you want perfect how can you defend Clinton, Kennedy, or Obama (Rev Wright)? If people have jobs and the country's not in a death spiral I don't really care about this crap. Must be that this is the best the liberals can come up with. The liberal presidents have had alot worse personal issues than any of the Republicans. the conservatives just don't have control of the media like the liberals do.

Yeah, all the connies are comparing this to Bill Clinton. Now, let me think. Back then, everyone was saying what? Oh yeah, impeach him! But yet, Hermie goes with all the sexual innuendos and all, and then pays these women off. But that's OK, right connies? He still deserves to be President, even tho you all wanted to impeach Bill. Hypocrites.

Whatever happened to "innocent" until proven guilty?  The media seems more intent on publishing rumors than on getting the facts first.

love it- the media reports on a factual event- one of the woman was paid a settlement and he was accused twice. These are facts not allegations or rumor.

Cain was an idiot posing as a candidate before, his time is coming to an end. Back to Perry?

As a Democratic political junkie who has seen several decades of various sensational stories, my take is that this one will do Mr. Cain no harm.

I think his statement today will satisfy his supporters. The man has Teflon. I don't think this even made a tiny scratch.

Time will tell - but I predict Mr. Cain will be just fine.

As soon as someone of prominence comes into the spotlight, the lights get hotter and brighter and the illicit scrutiny begins. What should this matter? We have had presidents whose actions have been categorized, documented, denied, and whitewashed. Who gives a @!$%# if a man flirts with a woman. I personally find it refreshing that man to woman flirting is taking place. In today's social strata it's almost unheard of, it seems almost everyone is gay!! As far as sexual harassment accusations being levied, well, that is decidedly subject to interpretation any way you cut it. Absolutely amazing the way these stories surface at election time. Coincidence I suppose. NOT.

The "man" was married at the time. man up and live up to your pledges, or just admit that you are nothing but a boy who can't live up to your promises to be faithful in body and spirit.

Mr. Cain is using the old Clinton tactic of i didn't inhale in his reference that other people paid for the settlement without his knowledge. boy what a liar, in any legal settlement Mr. Cain would have to sign off on the settlement to make it binding and legal. This is an affront to the intelligence of the American public to say that he knew about these allegations but not the resolutions to them is an out right lie and the press should hold his feet to the fire. The conservatives had no problem with the birther bs about the President or the Monica Lewinski affair during the Clinton era now their boy is in the spotlight and they are trying to deflect criticism by saying this a liberal media broadside. Because the women who filed these complaints are legally bound from discussing the allegations Mr. Cain feels free to deny any wrong doing.

"Cain dismisses Sex Allegations as a Witch Hunt"

Oh my, Msnbc, I am disappointed.

Since it's Halloween, I was hoping for an article on how Obama bought a costume.

I hear he wanted to dress up as "President."

I have to say that any woman who takes cash to drop a sexual harassment suit is not trustworthy in my book because she's leaving the creep who harassed her free to harass other women. If she'll do that, why should I believe her about anything. Unless more information comes out, I give Herman Cain the benefit of the doubt on this.

Taking the settlement is putting the offender on notice that if he does it again, they can then be subpoenaed to testify against him, regardless of the hush money they have accepted. Justice trumps contract law.

The Democrats have little interest in derailing Herman Cain's campaign.  I suspect that he is one of their top three choices for opponent next year.  If they were going to start a 'witch hunt' it would involve Romney, not Cain.

Herman's not worrie about what this does to his poll numbers; he's worried about what it will do to this book sales.

You probably read where he is "scaling back" his political appearances. I think he actually resents being so high, in the polls; it pulls him away, from his book tour.

You can say anything you want about Herman, there is one thing that is in print--the fact that he was on board the Koch brothers Americans for Prosperity train from the very beginning.  His job was to spread their message and grow the organization.  With that organization and all the money he could want, this man doesn't need phone banks and volunteers--they'll just buy it for him.

              Two words: Juanita Broderick.

              Two more: Kathleen Willey.

              Three more: Paul Corbin Jones.

Betcha the same libs eagerly pouncing all over Cain on this one were OH SO QUICK to dismiss, deny, or try to laugh off allegations that their hero, Bill, was quite the sexual harasser. Just like thy dismissed and downplayed the allegations that a drunken Ted Kennedy and a drunken Chris Dodd teamed up at a Washington restaurant to try and nail a cocktail waitress, "sandwich style" - she wanted NOTHING to do with either of the horny Democrat senatorial drunks.

                Wow..
Just when people started taking him seriously and considering to vote his way, they stooped to this? As a young female coming of age when the "sexual harassment" started, I watched women call "wolf". All a man had to do was call her "honey" and he was sexually harassing her...

With all the Tax Dodgers (still in office, I might add) is this all they could come up with?

If other women came forward with "REAL" evidence of sexual harassment, then I might rethink my position. Until then, he still has my vote!

CBS News reported tonight that the story is actually backfiring and helping Cain's campaign!

His contributions DOUBLED today! People are rallying to his support!

As a Democratic political junkie I really thought this would happen as there is no "there" there - and people believe Herman Cain's denial.

Didn't think it would take under 24 hours to backfire in Cain's favor - but I'm glad people who support Cain were smart enough to see through this so quickly! Good for Cain's supporters! This story - in my opinion - has Karl Rove's fingerprints all over it. He and his K Street cronies are so upset that their guy Mitt -whom they can control - is being challenged by an outsider that they cannot control.

Apparently no person at NBC ever read Shakespeare's (sp), Much Ado About Nothing. What we have here is a lot of scrambling to find dirt on a man who could be the first real, black President. Mr. Herman Cain did not have a white momma, did not have a Muslim mentor (Mr. Cain is a Christian), and has no history of spending our money like there is no limit! We have faceless accusations, from faceless people, but we are supposed to believe that this black man is guilty because some white people at NBC say they have 'confirmed' the story. Does this all sound familiar to anyone? Faceless accusations - he must be guilty!
