Cain dismisses sex allegations as a 'witch hunt'

Herman Cain continued to deny any wrongdoing related allegations made against him that he sexually harassed two women during his days as head of the National Restaurant Association, dismissing the accusations as a "witch hunt."

"I told you this bull's eye on my back has gotten bigger,” Cain said emphatically during an appearance at the National Press Club in Washington. "We have, I have no idea the source of this witch hunt -- and that’s what this is."

When asked about it at the start of the question-and-answer session, Cain said, “I would be delighted to clear the air.”

He reiterated what he said on FOX earlier: “I have never sexually harassed anyone. … I was accused of sexual harassment, falsely accused, I might add.”

He said he recused himself from the National Restaurant Association’s investigation of the accusations, saying it was handled by Human Resources and the association’s general counsel.

Cain claimed the investigation concluded that there was no wrongdoing on his part. But, he said, for him “enough said about the issue” and he would not be working with the restaurant association to release more information. (It’s not clear he could anyway because of confidentiality agreements.)

He also reiterated that despite being chief executive officer he was “unaware of a settlement that came out of that accusation.” And he joked again that he hoped the accusers didn’t get much, because, “I have never sexually harassed anyone. Those accusations are totally false.”

The National Restaurant Association today released the following statement:

“The incidents in question relate to personnel matters that allegedly took place nearly fifteen years ago. Consistent with our longstanding policy, we don’t comment on personnel issues relating to current or former employees,” said Sue Hensley, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Communications for the National Restaurant Association.

*** UPDATE *** Cain sang a few bars of a gospel song to close out his remarks.

Notice, folks...he did not blame Democrats...probably because he's not ruled out that one of his opponents for the GOP nomination spilled the beans.

Fact is, "witches" or not, they have been found and are apparently real. That ole "high tech lynching" approach is harder to play when you choose to buy your way out of a problem rather than stand and fight it.

Conservatives relentlessly play the "holier-than-thou" card and it comes back at them every time. Are liberals morally superior? Hell no . . . but do they claim to be? Eh . . . no. If you're not troubled by hypocrisy, then fine, but some of us are nauseous.

Cain's explanation of the internal investigation confirms that proper procedure was followed by the association in responding to the allegations. More to the point, it also confirms that there was enough substance or supporting information from others that the association realized it might well have embarrassing and expensive lawsuits on its hands.

So they reached a cash settlement.

Companies do no pony up if the internal review shows the claims are dubious or clearly false. They fire the accusers, in those situations.

This may have occurred 15 years ago, but today is when Herman Cain is lying, or quite carefully shading the truth in his denials. That's why it matters today.

He has disqualified himself as a candidate already - with his lack of substantive positions, his sometimes absurd remarks, and his patent ownership by right-wing extremist organizations. This is simply one more nail in the candidacy's coffin.

jOHN a dumbass??? Lack of substantive positions?? You dont know what the @!$%# you are talking about. Clearly an arrogant uninformed liberal who drink the kool aid from the keith olbermans of the media, without taking the time the vet the candidate for themselves. DEMS and liberals are great at just chanting what someone else tells them to - look at the punks on oWS - reminds me of the 5 year olds singing about "Barack hussein Obama" -- ooh ooh ooh barack hussein obama. Kids are innocent and can be told what to say. Liberals are void of morality and just plain dumbasses and will parrot anything coming out of the mouth of msnbc's rachel madcow or the terminated keith olberman.

Ann Coulter, who I suspect had a sex change operation--not to insult others who have--is a talk slut who said: "our blacks are better than their blacks..." brought visions of a slave on a block to be sold with potential buyers checking his teeth and sturdiness. What the heck sort of thing is this to say?

Will the investigation of Cain's campaign financing be a liberal racist smear too? How about the Tax Policy Center's review of his 9-9-9 tax plan being the most regressive and unworkable tax proposal to date by a candidate? Puleeze Rush Limpballs, et al, the GOP/TP candidates just suck.

Politico, which Media Matters views as having a Republican tilt, was aware of rumours just like all other news outlets. Then upon receiving a tip (Rove was that you?) did some investigative reporting. And unlike a liberal "witch hunt" gave the Cain campaign a 10-day heads up on the story. And then Cain's "rolling disclosure" occurred on several outlets most of all FOX. Riiight, it's a liberal conspiracy, riiiight.

Did you hear? The $16 muffins didn't cost $16.00 either.

Liberals ARE racist. Their party stands for racism and has fought against equality for blacks for decades. KKK? Democrats. Party that tried to block the 1964 Civil Rights Bill? Democrats.

Lets use the typical liberal talking point when speaking about Black Americans...."if you say anything bad about black poilticians THEN YOU ARE A RACIST!" (this is typical lib mantra when anyone discusses their dislike for our president, "if you dont like him it must be because you are a racist.")

So, libs, you are ALL racist for saying bad things about Herman Cain (which fits nicely with your party's history of hating blacks)

Dixiecrat as in Robert Byrd, ya know, the man who was fourth in line to be president until he died a couple years ago.... Yeah he was in the KKK. Dixiecrats WERE/ARE Democrats, it was just simply a geographical name WITHIN the Democrat Party....

Amy "unwelcome conduct" is the lesser of the two types of sexual harassment's, and unless there are repeated infractions by the organization or individuals, they seldom warrant any punitive damages, and in my experience do not warrant the type of expensive and secretive private settlement negotiated here. In the cases of simple "unwelcome conduct" I have witnessed the solutions generally involve apologies, and some workplace sensitivity training, and maybe a demotion for an employee, there is almost never cash settlements and confidentially agreements involved. Ha I know a few people who would have loved a confidential settlement, so wifey would not know what went down, but they almost never get that lucky.

His weakness for her advances is a different failing than harrassing underlings who want no part of you sexually. Besides, you people like LEONA, were prone to claim that Hillary was a lesbian, so why should it matter to her if Bill is getting his Cheney sucked by some willing heterosexual. And it is actually the TRUTH that Bill never "slept" with Monica.

Remains Of Ancient Race Of Job Creators Found In Rust Belt

A team of leading archaeologists announced Monday they had uncovered the remains of an ancient job-creating race that, at the peak of its civilization, may have provided occupations for hundreds of thousands of humans in the American Northeast and Midwest.

According to researchers, these long- forgotten people once flourished between western New York state and Illinois, erecting highly distinctive steel and brick structures wherever they went, including many buildings thought to have held hundreds of paid workers at a time.

            ...

As to how the ancient cities of employment fell into ruin, scholars have argued the job creators may have exhausted their resources or, perhaps, been killed off by a competing race of foreign job creators.

Now remember, history is written by the victor. Therefore, scholars are puppets of the politiacl systems they are employed by. I wonder which one employs you? Job creators can never exhaust their resources, they can only be exhauted by the outside pressure exerted from loss of profits or political pressures. Due to socialistic ideals of the Left that re-distribute the wealth to LAZY good for nothing unionists and outdated and abused government programs designed to help level programs but have been so routed with abuse that they force people to become dependent on them, production has moved into areas of the world that love profit and competition. You can change or you can whine... Good Luck!

Mr Cain, you should have put this out there before it was made public, after the 08 election you should have made it known this happened. part of me thinks this was put there by the liberal and right wing media equally. lets face it the GOP does not want Cain any more than they wanted Obama to become president. they tried it with the rev wright and the birthers.

Even if the records were sealed and a deal was made, you should have been proactive with this, and made this known to everybody

Sir your scaring the main stream of the GOP because your talking a better game than perry and Romney, your showing alot of people whats lacking in the GOP field.

I'm a liberal and will be voting for President obama in 12, but i will give you a word of advise from the other side, do what Obama did when the rev Wright stuff came out, hold a press conference and give the details of this so it can be put to bed, show the MSM you have nothing to hide and this will soon pass, remember if Bill Clinton can become president with his baggage with woman then sir you should be ok.

but remember if there is ANY thing else out there you better made it know RIGHT NOW or Kiss the Convention good bye.

I believe you are mistaken about a good submissive republican wife, I believe Hillary Clinton was and is still a democrat and is still standing by her man. Remember her statement "Right wing conspiracy". Maybe this is a left wing conspiracy.

There is a differrance between lying and cheating and not wanting to perform certain acts.

Hillary did not give head and she did not care who did it for him.

No lying. No cheating. Honesty is the best policy.

replicans are cheating, lying, whoremongers to themselves and the people they represent. it comes from being a good christian i think.

First Read - Slow news day or just do you just like to keep repeating the same old thing. I believe this is about the 3 or 4th thread on this same story. There are a lot more things going on than is "alleged" sexual harassment BS. BTW if NBC confirmed this, I am assuming they know the name and have talked to the accuser. So why wouldn't they publish her name, because most of us don't believe NBC anyway. I am really tired of this anonymous source crap, if you are going to make an accusation against someone have the guts to go public and put your name out there.

Please read NBC Post above. How much she got ( money wise).

There are more than one by the by.

Uncle Tom Cain is now going to claim his black heritage and will say these are racist allegations.

No one is shunned worse than one who has denied is own heritage.

rogerbead - Sounds to me that you are a little bias and maybe even an idiot. I saw nothing in the NBC report that gave a specific amount to the so called woman that was harassed. I did see that NBC refuses to give her name.

Using names like "Uncle Tom Cain" shows you are an idiot. BTW, Cain has never denied his own heritage. Maybe you should follow in his foot steps instead of waiting for Uncle Sugar to give you everything.

In investigative journalism, revealing the name of an anonymous source is called "Burning Your Source".

You always have the option to print a person's name if they give you information but wish to remain anonymous. However, if you ever want anything from that source ever again, you will maintain anonymity.

...and don't hang this entirely on First Read and MSNBC...Politico isn't naming names either.

@ Northstar, not everyone has realized you can join with whatever name you want (if it isn't already in use)or that you can ask to have it changed. Most haven't read the COH, either. The same ones that never read a EULA before they click "agree". I find most reregs are fairly savvy about the no numbers monikers, though.

There has to be some bases to all of it. If I just all of a sudden went to a news outlet and said I had an affair with Michelle Bachmann, not only would I have to shoot myself but there would have to be some basis to it to cause her any problems.

It's like the Rick Perry sex scandal here in Texas, it was reported but all of the facts have been sealed so it has not been an issue yet. There are democratic groups filing lawsuits to have the info released but so far nothing that would let it be an issue for him to date.

Harassment doesn't have to be proven. An accusation is sufficient to send everyone scurrying for cover. The fear of litigation for such conduct often preempts the opportunity of proving ones innocence and this accusation is often used to hurt someone for spiteful reasons. The accused organization is often willing to pay "hush" money rather than face a protracted court battle, even when the accused is innocent. Does harassment happen, unfortunately yes. Did it happen in this case? The court did not provide a verdict of guilt; therefore he's innocent. Left wingers once again want to assassinate a conservatives reputation based on "anonymous informants" and implications of wrongdoing.

What really has me curious is how a supposedly sealed agreement leaked to the offspring of a National Enquirer gold digging sensationalist can, without proof or legitimate source, attempt to ruin a reputation and influence the election process. It only goes to show how far our press will go to get any name recognition.

Shame on this disgusting practice. Free press that does not demonstrate accountability and personal integrity, is just back door gossip mongering.

SOURCE OF WITCH HUNT DISCOVERED...IT'S GLADYS KRAVITZ !

Cain said emphatically during an appearance at the National Press Club in Washington. "We have, I have no idea the source of this witch hunt -- and that’s what this is."

Scarlet Letter News Oct. 31, 2011

Among mounting speculation as to the source of the Herman Cain "witchhunt" , Herman Cain supporter Abner Kravitz revealed that it was his wife, Gladys, who was behind exposing the accusations of sexual harassment against Mr. Cain. "When Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan morphed into 9-0-9, Gladys was real upset," Abner stated. "She was ready to burn Herman at the stake".

Gladys, meanwhile will not answer the door for reporters, but has been seen peering out through the miniblinds all day long. "She knows you're all out here," shouted Abner from the porch, "Glady knows everything".

Neighbor Samantha Stephens from 1164 Morning Glory Circle commented, "Well, we always thought Gladys was kind of a busy body, but I never thought she'd resort to something like this. She's always kind of kept to herself. I didn't realize that she was political."

Darren Stephens, reached at the offices of McMann and Tate advertising, commented, "Since we're handling the New England political campaign of New Gingrich, we'd rather not comment on this development. We need to keep an eye on Newt." His superior, Larry Tate also declined to comment.

Samantha's mother Endora, wasn't so shy. "Don't listen to Durwood. If Herman Cain did sexually harass these women, he deserves a fate worse than death," she cackled. "Maybe he'd like to become a pizza".

Aunts Clara and Esmerelda, in town for a visit seemed oblivious to the controversy. "The last time anyone ever tried to sexually harass me, I turned him into an eye of newt. He became House Speaker and made a failed contract with America," said Clara. Esmerelda giggled, "Last I heard he was trying to make up for a certain "reduced size appendage" by trying to run up a big Tiffany's bill."

Aunt Hagatha, a Mitt Romney fan, said, "Well, we all knew Cain's run wouldn't last. I'm just having fun turning Mitt Romney from a Conservative one day into a Liberal the next day and back again. And look what I did to Rick Perry in the debates."

                  Happy Halloween
