Remember Jared Bernstein? Barack Obama brought him on board the transition team as one of his economic advisers, which produced the stimulus proposal asking for $775 billion in order to keep joblessness below 8%. In fact, that prediction reportedly came from Bernstein himself. CBS News caught up with Bernstein yesterday, who admits that that prediction wasn’t very good: "The White House economic adviser who determined in 2009 that if President Barack Obama’s stimulus bill were passed unemployment would not go above 8 percent, now says he was wrong and that he does not think unemployment will go below 8 percent before the end of 2012–the last year of the four-year Obama won in 2008."

“Look, we made that projection back in 2008 at a time when the most recent information about the economy was that it was contracting at a rate of less than 1 percent,” Bernstein said. “At the time, we simply didn’t have good information. We now know with revised data that in the very quarter where we made that wrong projection, the economy was contracting at almost 9 percent.”

“So the statistics were way off at the time,” Bernstein continued. “It’s also the case that that forecast that we gave back then was the consensus forecast of the economics community. I mean, it wasn’t just that WE were wrong. Everyone was wrong. And I think it’s largely because we just didn’t have a clear picture yet of how bad this recession actually was going to be.”

The music artist Common. Imgoing to get extremely personal in order to get through to you. Have you ever lived or better yet, associated yourself with people who live in the American version of a Shanty-town? Thanks to American social programs, most shanty towns are actually sound structures they just happen to be crime ridden areas rather then destitute blackholes like the slums of developing countries (ie India, lawless countries like Mexico). Americans who live in these areas are constantly profiled and some are convicted, tried, and even executed for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Unless you lived in such conditions or partaken in the underground economy of these areas you are blind to how grassroots music can reflect the animosity a specific demographic has towards law enforcement or "the man". Entire generations and generations before them have been marginalized and made to feel law enforcement are equivalentto a rival street gang. Here is a story that I would like to share. When i was 18 yrs old (I am 35 now) I hung out withsome Arizonan Mexican Gangsters that claimed allegiance to the "Bloods" Family. If I lost you already lets just say "Shantytown Neighborhood Watch Team A". These Teams were very serious and were ready to duel to the death for pride or honor alone. Red is my favorite color so naturally I wear red. I was never an official member of Neighborhood Watch Team A but was an associate.

When in Portland Oregon circa 1995, I was riding on the 72 bus in the back. Bus was fairly empty; only a few passengers in the front. Point of the story is that in the early 1990s, people could still fight in the streets and you could still "fight the police". Now of course that is not the case. Dontmess withthe police! IF someone tries to pick a fight withme nowadays I respond with"You want to get an assault charge?" and "The victim doesnt press charges anymore it will be the STATE of OREGON against you!". Back on topic, Common was communicating (in the 1990s) how a disenfranchised demographic felt about a force that is "out to get them". Me against them. Me against the world. Common's stand AGAINST "ganagsta rap" put himat odds with one of the biggest - and arguably - a pioneer of modern day rap.

To me, this is becoming an all too common theme. As Black people, we aren't afforded the opportunity to represent ourselves. Instead, we carry the weight of the entire Black population - like it or not. As a result, a "conscious" rapper, known, by those who care to know, as one who has a positive message on several issues - from community violence and women in rap, to politics - is erroneously forced into a category that an ignorant crowd labels any and all rappers, "gangsta." It's easy for the right wing to label Common as such in an attempt to besmirch the name of President and Mrs. Obama, because they know their constituents won't and don't care to challenge them. "Common raps? Well he must be a 'gangster.'"

What the Libs are scared of is that the narrow minded right will put this man into office if they can. This man who is owned by the Koch Bros and is trying to inflict a crappy 9-9-9 plan on the country to the detriment of the working class and poor. His plan for the electrified fence and his lack of knowledge of world events are more proof that he is not qualified to be President. Couple all that with his arrogance, we just don't want him running anything that affects our lives.
