Obama agenda: Advisers hit the Sunday shows

Senior adviser David Plouffe, who ran Obama’s 2008 campaign laid blame on congressional Republicans on Meet the Press: “Right now, we haven't been able to get largely Republicans in Congress to cooperate. So we're going to continue to push for things like cutting taxes for the middle class, putting construction workers back to work,” Plouffe said. “But in the meantime, the president's going to do everything he can, whether it's on housing, student loans, we're going to keep this up.” He also said Romney “has no core.”

David Axelrod on the economy yesterday on CNN: “The problems ... were years in the making. They are deep, they are complicated, and they’re going to require sustained perseverance and lots of ideas. There’s no silver bullet for them.”

“President Obama will issue an executive order on Monday that the administration hopes will help resolve a growing number of critical shortages of vital medicines used to treat life-threatening illnesses, among them several forms of cancer and bacterial infections,” the New York Times says.

President Obama at the National Italian-American Foundation: "I am biased, but I think Nancy was one of the best Speakers of the House this country ever had," Obama said after Pelosi had introduced him at the National Italian American Foundation gala, per The Hill. "She was no doubt the best Italian American Speaker of the House we ever had. And I believe that she will be the best Speaker of the House again in 2013." (A quick check of last names of past speakers shows there probably has never been an Italian-American speaker before.)

“Trick or treaters lucky enough to be allowed into the White House on Halloween will receive quite a treat - with a healthy twist,” the New York Daily News writes. “According to a press release, the White House will be giving out a box of special edition White House M&Ms, a proprietary sweet butter cookie and dried fruit.” On The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Obama joked, "She's been giving, for the last few years, kids fruit and raisins in a bag. And I said, 'The White House is going to get egged. You need to throw some candy in there. A couple Reese's Pieces or something.’”

Interesting that Plouffe and Perry are echoing the same criticism of Romney--no core.

"He also said Romney “has no core.” "

Unlike Obama, who says one thing and does the exact opposite. lol

Obama's strategy of 'attack, attack, attack' is risky, because it dampens turnout, which discourages Democrats more than Republicans. But I gues that's all he has since he's done such a dismal job on the economy and jobs.

Dont worry-Obama-media MSNBC will be all over it.

Did Cain have sex with an intern in his office and then lie about it? Then he would be qualified to run as a Democrat.

You mean like they did during Anthony Weiner's case? One thing is this, you're not used to the truth being told and when you hear one you still find a way to convince yourself it's not. Hey, Faux Forum is there check them out.

    Bob,

Which brings us to the question: what constitutes a good President?

Republicans are always telling us the federal government can't do anything to fix the economy, except keep taxes low, and yet they are running on President Obama's supposed "failure" to create jobs, regardless of the fact he extended the Bush tax cuts, which is the centerpiece of the conservative economic strategy.

I don't hear anything from the Republicans that would suggest they would do anything remarkable different than Obama has; if anything, they sound like they would do less.

David Plouffe and David Axelrod are right in their description of the "Do nothing" Congress! If you are not happy with the direction Washington is going with the radical extreme fringe calling the shots, make your votes count! The current process dates to 1974, when Congress overhauled the way the government’s spending was planned in an effort to enhance its own role as keeper of the purse strings, the real reason the current 112th Congress owns the nation's current economy. Since 1974, Congress has followed the process as designed — passing a budget and all 12 spending bills on time — only twice. “We need to do something extraordinary” - Like vote out everyone of those Congress members who will not compromise!

If memory serves, the new crop of representatives were sent to Washington because, we the people, were fed up with runaway spending and burgeoning debt...so they actually do what the voters sent them there to do which is stop additional spending and escalating debt, and suddenly they are unco-operative "do nothing" congress.....Make up your mind. More of the same which only seems to have deepened the recession/depression and caused more people to lose jobs, lose homes etc, or put the brakes on now, and try to get some real and meaningful spending cuts so that the US can attempt to live within its means. I personally do not want to see everything I earn go to taxes to pay a debt that I had not voice in how it was spent.

President Obama, if we vote for you for another 4 more years, there will be no progress in Congress. You blame that nothing is being done because of congressional gridlock in the Senate, but if we vote you in, there will be another 4 more years of impasse with Congress, and nothing will be accomplished. There will be 4 more years of blaming the Republicans, and we want action. Someone that can work with both houses to move us forward. Think about it America, 4 more years of congressional gridlock we don't need.

@jm: I can't believe what I just read above. The thinking in the House needs to be changed and now is the time to do it! They want to get back to the good ole days when the white wealthy controlled things. There is nothing wrong with Obama's administrative skills; the House won't act because like rotten little children they have had their toys taken away so now they stick their thumbs in their filthy, greedy, little mouths and slander the one person who is trying to get something done. They want Obama to fail because he is black and there is no other reason! Next time, a Latino might run and get elected OR, heaven forbid; a qualified female. Why can't we ALL see this?; it is crystal clear even to a blind person! They want a white man for president while the people who voted for Obama just want a president who hears them and one who cares; regardless of complexion. I am old enough to remember the first women who dared to work in the factories and foundries for equal pay. They were ignored or ill treated and some even roughed up a bit, BUT, tough ass group that they were, they stayed put! The rePUBS want to stand in the way of progress but we can't let them. The Grand OLD Party which is what the GOP acronym stands for, are the ones who should get out of the way; not us!

This is an election race that is all about race! It is NOTHING else! There are NO other principles involved. What the president is asking for has been routinely granted to all other presidents but now that a black man wants to restore the country's infastructure, and pay the salaries of first responders and teachers, suddenly, the GOP is saying no to EVERYTHING before it is ever proposed. They must change their ideology because life is changing all around us. A nation of immigrants want to now close the door to other immigrants looking for the same sort of opportunities. You CANNOT believe that by placating the rePUBS at this auspicious time in our nation's history that this attitude would not take from our current freedom to elect whomever we feel is best suited for the job. When Obama was elected, a new die was cast and they must yield to the will of the people because the people have spoken. We can't allow THEM to chose our president! Where would that end?

I disagree JC Breeze. If that were true he wouldn't have gotten elected in the first place. I feel that if President Obama gets elected again, there will be no progress because there will be a gridlock again in Washington. As much as I like President Obama, you know that what I am saying is true. It will be the same impasse as before, unless Democrats take over both houses, and you know that America is very dissatisfied with Democrats right now. I am neither Democrat or Republican. Well, I used to be Democrat, but I too am so dissatisfied with everything that I am neutral right now. I just want someone that will take action. Someone that will get along with both houses of our government and stop blaming the Senate. So, if he gets elected, know that I told you so beforehand, that there will be a stalemate in policy making for another 4 years.

              #11.2 - Mon Oct 31, 2011 9:38 PM EDT

Then we need to stop the blame game-Democrats this/Republicans that/Liberals this/Conservatives that/Rich this/poor that....we need to make clear what we want our government to do for us as the voting public. If we want jobs, then the way to do that is take some of the restraints off business....government does not produce product and does not produce wealth-they merely take wealth from all of us in the form of taxes. If we want the extreme spending to stop, then we will all have to accept that we cannot be the tooth fairy to everyone and every cause. We are once again going to have to prioritize expenditures and perhaps eliminate those that fall lower on the scale. We need to stop griping about poverty and really define what it means, because in our society, poverty is not measured by income alone. Those below poverty carry to little to no tax burden, nor do they pay for their medical coverage and care as do wth working, tax paying middle class. They do not pay as high a percentage for where they live and their utilities. Often their grocery bills are taken care of as well....What does poverty really mean in this country, because I feel as if I live in poverty when I cannot afford to repair my house, because there isn't enough money left over after mortgage, utility, taxes, and groceries....I work 40+ hours per week. The guy living in a section 8 development is living in more square feet than I can afford, has more bathrooms than I do, and has a maintenance staff paid for by the housing authority to fix things like windows and weather stripping, heaters and water tanks etc., while I have to pay for materials and labor for those same repairs.

If I owe $1000 on my mortgage for example, but I do absolutely nothing about it. The following month, I would owe $1000, plus interest. If I still do nothing, my mortgage will continue to grow as I continue to owe. Right? This is not rocket science and I am either right or wrong regarding the aforementioned formula.

So then, there is NO WAY that I can save my home by inaction; make sense so far? Now...if I borrow the money I need, I will have to pay it back with interest but now I am at least out of debt with the mortgage lender, okay? Now, I can sell the house or use it for collateral if I need it, right? But by doing nothing at all, I would have lost my house, all its valuable contents and have no place to lay my head at night. I took some risk by taking out a loan but was rewarded by that manipulation of my personal funds which allowed me to get back in right standing with all my creditors.

It is therefore asinine to believe that the affairs of this nation can be solved by DOING NOTHING! Correct? We must borrow and/or spend in order to effect change in a stagnated economy. If we do nothing as the GOP prefers, we will lose it all and possibly fail as a nation. Taxing the mega-wealthy will do little if any harm to them but if we don't, it could KILL us!

I am happy for you that you were able to refinance your mortgage and take advantage of the re-organization of your finances, but for so many of us, the property value has declined so badly and we are seen to owe much more than property is worth, so refinance at any interest rate is not an option. I also know several people who have taken advantage of this federal program to refinance and the final difference between the monthly payment before and the monthly payment now is less than $10 which isn't going to help them for very long in terms of losing the house. Not everyone is saving hundreds and thousands of dollars as the advertisements would have you believe. Not everyone is qualifying for this assistance. The foreclosure rates are still going up which means our property values are still going down, and that isn't necessarily due to people doing nothing, but rather that they have explored all the avenues, and they don't qualify for any of them.
