Paul says coverage of his campaign 'distorted'

Calling the coverage of his presidential campaign “distorted,” Congressman Ron Paul used a series of four television interviews as an opportunity to detail his path to the Republican nomination, distinguish his positions from his rivals, and explain his support in the polls.

“We keep going up. We don’t surge, but we never drop,” Paul said on FOX Tuesday. “Others have surged in the polls and they will be top of the pack and all of a sudden they are dropping off quickly. So, ours is very, very steady. And we haven’t lost ground, but we do need to prove ourselves. And that’s why we’re working very hard in the early stage. And I think January is a big month for us.”

He said Wednesday, “A lot of individuals come and go in the polls, up and down. And my support has been pretty steady and continues to grow.”

Paul went on to describe specifically where his campaign must win and how serious he takes the early voting states.

“We have directed most of our attention to New Hampshire and Iowa and Nevada, you know, the early states," he said. "But I would say, come January, it will be make or break for us. There's no doubt.”

In the online edition of a FOX show Wednesday, Paul was asked if he needs to win Iowa, and where he needs to finish.

“In the top," he said. "I would be disappointed with third, but … if I come in third, I’m still alive. But I think I better do first or second in a couple of those. I have to do well in January.”

Trying to stay in the top of the Republican pack, Paul tried to separate himself from GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney telling NBC’s David Gregory on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” there would not be much difference between President Obama and the GOP “establishment” candidate.

“Would there be a change in foreign policy?" Paul asked rhetorically. "No, there would not. Would either one of them work on a true audit of the Fed and a change in monetary policy that the Federal Reserve can't monetize debt? No. … There would not be a significant difference between the two.”

Paul also put President Obama’s campaign promises alongside that of Republicans and then highlighted what they did once elected.

“Obama was elected as a peace candidate and he expanded the war. And he goes into war without any congressional approval. … When the Republicans get in … they give you No Child Left Behind, prescription drug programs.”

Paul went on to say the "Occupy" movement and the Tea Party have the same interest -- change.

“Whether it's the occupiers or whether it's the tea party people, they're saying, ‘Enough is enough,’" Paul said. "They want some changes, and that's what they're looking for.”

Looking back to positions the 76-year-old candidate has held since first getting elected to public office in the 1970’s, Paul said the other candidates don’t share his longstanding concern on the debt.

“I think the question is how serious do the other candidates and the people of this country think this debt is? I happen to think it is very serious," Paul said on FOX Tuesday. "I was concerned in the '70’s because I thought the situation was set-up because of the change of the monetary system that it would lead to endless spending and endless debt and that's where we are. So, I think we have to take this very seriously. … I'm not bashful about cutting spending. But it's just that I see this sovereign debt crisis worldwide is much more serious than anybody wants to admit. The other candidates aren't offering really any cuts.”

The round of interviews followed his campaign’s “Black This Out” fundraiser, what his campaign calls a "money bomb." It raised more than $2.75 million in five days from more than 40,000 donors, according to the campaign.

The only thing 'distorted' in the parallel universe this delusional old man inhabits!

Parallel universe? Delusion? The reality that we are living in now that Establishment Republicans and Democrats have brought us are $15 trillion debt, wars in 3 countries, drone strikes killing civilians in 2 more, an Executive unilaterally killing American citizens and classifying the memo justifying it as a State Secret, Executive orders bypassing Congress where no constitutional authority exists, warrantless wiretaps, secret FISA courts, GITMO, TSA stops in airports and now on interstates, near 10 percent unemployment, the most illiterate populace in the Western world and media enterprises who take it upon themselves to choose candidates for us now, manipulating elections better than any 3rd world dictator could dream. Both parties have gotten us here, and nothing in the world is gonna change. You people buy into this 2 party paradigm like there's a real difference. None exists, the same folks are pulling the strings.

Ron Paul seems to me to be like Josef K. in Kafka's "The Trial", the only sane person awake to the madness while the rest of the population was either too dimwitted or too apathetic to care.

Not true. Apparently, you are, too, and so are a lot of us.

But that doesn't mean that the rest of Paul's crazy agenda is acceptable. On the domestic side, in particular.

Nor does it mean he would get a Congress friendly to the agenda you describe. Even in his own supposed party. Far from it. They would laugh him off the Hill, and he would become the Republican's Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter was a micro-manager who tried to tell us how to heat our homes, but could not bring hostages home from Iran.

The only one more delusional is Barack Obama.

Ron Paul is the only one telling us the truth.

We get it already. You are a die-hard Obama supporter and, to this date, he has fulfilled all the expectations you had of him. Anyone willing to challenge your hero is unworthy and derserving of a sarcastic, baseless statement from his biggest 'First Read' heckler.

If Ron Paul's foreign policy is his biggest detractor explain this...

Distorted? You can't distort what he says--it's pretty straight forward and far right. Paul has a solid, small group of people who will support him everytime he runs. He's popular at debates because he's a straight talker--what he says is what he is. The problem is most voters sit in the center left/right. The anti-government, no rules, no taxes, no anything is unrealistic and people know it. While they like the idea of what he says, they don't like the reality of what a non-functioning, wild wild west kind of government would be like.

Distorted? Hell yes it's distorted. The media does it all the time. They do it just like you try to do in this lame post.

Paul has a solid, group of people that is constantly growing as people from both the left and the right begin to understand his positions.

He's popular at debates because he's a straight talker--what he says is what he is. People like that about him. They are sick of candidates on the far left and the far right telling lies in order to win elections.

Most voters are exactly where Ron Paul sits.. in the center left/right. The big government, we own your body and can do anything we want to you including killing you without due process kind of government is unrealistic and people know it.

People like the idea of what he says, that is why they are moving in his direction.

It's liberty time baby... Constitution... Ron Paul

Pauls words are always twisted around to make him sound like an a ss...they do it to him almost every time..this past week has been unbelievable the way the hosts of these shows finally speak to him with a little respect. Never before this week has that been the case.

When Mitt Romney is being interviewd, the hosts usually just "love" everything he has to say as if they are a school girl at a Justin Timberlake concert. Its very obvious man you have to research multiple interviews between Paul and other candidates with Media Political hosts whether Fox/CNN.

The no tax's for example is distorted. He doesnt propose NO TAXS. He proposes to get rid of the Federal Income Tax. Its a joke and its theft of the people. There was never a Federal Income Tax before 1913. There was never a Federal Reserve before 1913. When The Fed was assigned as the central bank to print our money in 1913, a Federal Income Tax Act was implented on all working citizens. Why? Because the Fed charges the government interest on every dollar printed. So obviously the government needs a means of paying the Fed back for the money printed, which is nearly impossible if you charge interested on printed money! Federal Income Tax my friend. Research it. That money does not go towards roads/bridges/any sort of goverment or public use except to pay debt such as to the Fed. We dont need the Fed or a Federal Income tax. Very realistic.

He isnt proposing cutting ALL taxs. Obviously you need taxs to fund infrastructure, certain programs. But the Federal Income Tax is a crime against the people and not needed. Do yourself a favor and google or youtube "Federal Income Tax Not a Law"..you'll be very surprised what you find.

      God Bless

      Jody, Iowa,

You are correct, unfortunately, regarding the majority of the populace. However, to deem Ron Paul's views which they "like as an ideal, but can't realistically accept", that is, the wisdom of the founding fathers concerning government, as being wild, wild west, is stretching it quite a bit. But that reveals the truth that for most, including Republicans, they neither really know the Constitution nor appreciate what a truly constitutional form of governance would look like. How many have actually read something as foundational as the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers? (You'll never find it in the curriculum of our 'public' education system). For base-voter, neoconservative-yet-don't-know-it Republicans to claim to be "constitutional" is perhaps as big a farce as Democrats denial that they are socialist.

Ron Paul is making the Republican establishment sweat because the GOP electorate is disgusted with the rest of their 2012 field and they understand that Paul is really the only conservative in the bunch. Romney and Perry and Cain are tin hat conservatives, waving their Tea Party banners while pushing for a big government GOP agenda on social issues and corporate welfare. I would not be shocked if Ron Paul were to get the nomination. http://www.sunstateactivist.org

After reading the few comments posted, I can honestly say Cain was right about something?

Stupid people are ruining this country! How in the world is a mans idea's twisted? Because he see's a future of rising inflation? He see's a future when a loaf of bread will cost you a twenty dollar bill? He wants other countries not to fear us and to admire us again? If anyone would watch any foreign news they would see how other countries view the US and NATO as being ran by the mob, and the US is starting to remind people of the Soviet Union before its demise! Here is a small example:

“We are seeing how Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State expressed it very clearly: ‘We came, we saw, he died,’ and then started laughing. This is a message to the world of how this new world order model actually works,” he stated.“When they decide to change the regime, they do so with the utmost violence, and it is a whole model. First they target a country by calling it a rogue state; then they support local terrorists and call them freedom fighters; then they bring death and destruction upon civilians and they call it UN sanctions. Then they spread lies and call it the International Community’s opinion expressed by the Western media. Then they invade and control the country and call it liberation and finally they steal appetizing oil and call it foreign investment and reconstruction,” Salbuchi explained.

“I think one of the reasons why Gaddafi’s country has been invaded and he has been killed is because he had plans to introduce the gold dinar as a golden currency that could very easily have become a major currency at least in North Africa and in the oil market,” he said. “Don’t forget Libya has the ninth-largest oil reserve in the world and the main oil reserve in all of Africa, so I think this definitely smells of oil and greed on the part of Western companies. They are just using this to justify they have supported the worst terrorists probably because in the White House and Palais de l'Élysée in France, and at 10 Downing Street, we also have very high-class terrorists and mafias running those countries and the better part of the world,” he pointed out.

Do Americans really want the world to view us in this light?

Yes. There are MORE deluded groups of people. They are the ones who blindly believe everything they read and follow everything they're told. They are the ones that when they can't think for themselves, ask their government to think for them. They are the ones who have forgotten why our nation exists in the first place, not thinking twice when they file their taxes every year. They are the same people who blame lack of control as the cause for lack of freedom, equality and prosperity. They are the ones that are so comfortable with the way things are, they don't see how close to the abyss they stand. They are the same people whom are asleep. They are the people that our founders fought for. They are also the people I hope will awaken.

You know I used to view myself as a democrat, not anymore. I thought we were getting a president who was gonna be transparent, bring the troops home, not bail out the big banks and corporations, follow the constitution, repeal the patriot act, and give back all of the american freedoms we lost due to "terrorism". What a sham it all has been. Disillusioned with politics and with our world leaders I found Ron Paul one day by mere coincidence as I was searching for a politician that spoke about these things that I believe America to be about. Over the past year I've watched how the media has at every turn tried to belittle or outright ignore this man. I've kept up with all the articles that I could find about him and read comments ranging from "His ideas won't work", to "he's a kook", "he's to old!", "crazy Paulites", "his cult followers", and on and on. It's funny how we are so used to a corrupt and unjust political system that when we find one that is honest, transparent, truthful, abides and lives his life according to the constitution that we merely mock him and move on.

I feel the same, coming from the opposite spectrum as a recovering "neocon" who use to watch Fox News/ subscribe to National Review religiously. To outsiders, I can see how they deem us as a cult, given we are all on the same wavelength, and generally all speak on the same issues in the same way, that is, with intelligence and facts, rather than cheap ad hominem! But what speaks against it really being cultic is simply the fact that Ron Paul has gained supporters from ALL political backgrounds. This is one of the things that's so kool about Ron Paul, or rather, Constitutionalism: It is so unifying. (Which is understandable, given that it is simply the Constitution which is the unifying principle, rather than any one political party.) Whether you are a Christian or an atheist, or formerly an "establishment Republican" or a "far-left Democrat", a Metal dude or a violin player, white or black, etc., etc., hanging out with fellow Ron Paulites is so liberating....the Constitution is simply our highest and only principle, as it should in secular politics. If anyone is crazy, it isn't Ron Paul, but most of the populace, whose knowledge is little more than whatever corporate-run media they watch, regardless of whether it is left or right leaning. (Both ends are still both corporate-run.) Funny how the majority of the populace though complains about the "status quo", and yet when presented with a candidate who truly is outside the status quo of both parties, the majority of the populace simply buys into the media's critique, which ultimately amounts to nothing more than stating that Ron Paul is outside the status quo, the very status quo which the majority of the populace complains about. I mean, who is the crazy one here?

The tea party can't vote for Cain, he supported the bail-outs. The tea party can't vote for Romney because he created a healthcare system very similar to Obamacare. The tea party can't vote for Gingrich because he supports the mandate to carry heath insurance.

These are key issues with the tea party. Only Dr. Paul stands for tea party priciples of small, constitutional gov't, low taxes, Liberty (Don't tread on me).

Dr. Paul is the father of the tea party. If he loses the Republican primary, he needs to run in a new party called the Tea party.

You cherry picked an issue here and there to make your argument for which the tea party can and cannot vote. How about immigration? Ron Paul is for open borders. Are you telling me the tea party can vote for that?

The tea party isn't an it. It's a bunch of people. Each one of them will vote for the candidate he or she prefers. Right now, based on polling data I've seen in news reports, a lot of tea party people are supporting Cain. Less of them are supporting Paul.

So here you have Paul who certainly isn't going to win a majority of the establishment Republicans, and now can't even win a majority of the wing of the GOP that started out as more libertarian than not. That sounds like "game over" to me.

For any former Libertarians who now are Republicans because of this tea party thing; yes, you've gummed up the works for Republicans. But... the party as a whole isn't going to become libertarian. You've been had. Just like you are using the party for its size and prominence, it is using you to add to its size. I remember local Libertarian Party members handing out tea bags with their April 15 fliers a decade ago. That was the start of the tea party. Once Republicans got hold of the idea, the tea party wasn't going to stay very libertarian for long.

The tea party is still, and always will be for a set of principles we have agreed to support. Among them is small, constitutional gov't, low taxes, and Liberty. Only Ron Paul represents these principles. Argue as you will, the fact is the fact.

If you are going by the banker media polls who have blacked out Dr. Paul and twisted his platform, watch how these polls change a week before the vote. They don't want to get caught being biased, so just before election day they start adjusting the polls to what is reality.

Only one candidate has backers who will be sure to show up at the polling precinct, Ron Paul. Look at which candidate is bringing in the small donations, that's the one with an energized base, it's Ron Paul. Only one has people switching parties in large numbers to vote for him, again it's Ron Paul.

At least you have the banker owned media to lull you to sleep with pictures of Cain and his smoking manager holding a 999 sign.

The only Tea party candidate is Ron Paul!

                  President Dr. Ron Paul

Where does Romneys campaign money come from? Big banks.

Where does Ron Paul's campaign money come from? The US military and hundred of thousand individual doners.

                    Who does America really support?
