More 2012: Brewer’s redistricting power play

ARIZONA: “Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has taken the first step Wednesday in what had been previously called ‘the nuclear option’ in seeking a more Republican-friendly redistricting map,” Roll Call reports. “The GOP governor began the impeachment process for removing members from the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission by submitting a letter outlining her grievances to commission Chairwoman Colleen Mathis.”

MASSACHUSTTS: The Massachusetts GOP takes aim at Elizabeth Warren over her comments supporting “Occupy Wall St,” with a Web video called, “Matriarch of Mayhem.”

The Senate race has one less Democrat.

NEW HAMPSHIRE: “You’ve probably heard of Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, maybe even Gary Johnson or Buddy Roemer,” the Boston Globe writes. “But what about Joe Story, Vern Wuensche, or James Vestermark? Each of them will share equal billing with the top-tier Republican candidates on the 2012 New Hampshire ballot. … [W]ith a filing fee of just $1,000, and no party approval or petition required, the primary ballot is the great equalizer between candidates who may actually live in the White House and those more likely to make it there on a guided tour.”

In other words, if the GOP can't win fairly in Arizona, cheat by stacking the deck via redistricting. What are republicans afraid of?

We are having the same problem here too. They are trying to eliminate as many Dem districts and at the same time limit votes. It is so blatant and so undemocratic. What, indeed are they afraid of? One would think if they are so sure their message is the correct one, they wouldn't feel the need to cheat.

Yeah Jody, cause only the GOP stacks the deck by redistricting.

YOu really are not aware that both parties do it?

Really Jody? GM, you too?

Cause the dems sure have never done it here in Cali, or in NY or in Ill.

You guys crack me up.

GOP bad, dems good. No matter what.

We were blasted with a re-districting not too long ago by the dems.

Used to have hillcrest, la jolla and some other very democratic strongholds along with Rancho Santa Fe, Encinitas, Carlsbad and San Marcos. Our most conservative areas (RSF, SM, Carlsbad) and our most progressive areas (La Jolla, Torrey Pines, Hillcrest) voting in one big mush. Thats a lot of electoral votes, and it couldn't be accurately predicted so....

they split it in two, to create one district that always votes (R) and one that always votes (D) without end.

    Sad.

Although my district 'Never Existed' to Stephen Colbert any more. Oohrah for crooked politicians getting caught (Randy 'Duke' Cunningham).

In AZ, the redistricting commission is (relatively) non-partisan. Brewer wants to eliminate the those who are putting together disticts based on population and geography and put in political hacks to try to get 1 or 2 more Republicans elected. Pathetic.

Redistricting will end up being done by the courts here in MN. The home district of M.Bachmann will lose 100,000 voters. She will still probably win reelection.

Says a lot about your state, eh?

We all know Mn is kinda crazy.

Yes, Mn does have its odd political characters. But we are one of the bluest states, like Cali, when it comes to federal elections. And this is also true for the most part in our choice of Senators: Humphrey, Mondale, McCarthy, Wellstone, and now Klobucher and Franken.

Jesse won in a three party race for governor. It was the 6th district that put him over the top , which later elected Bachmann. Herman Cain reminds me of Jesse. Both are plain speaking, admitting that they don't know a lot. Jesse did appoint experts to various state departments. His claim to fame was the rebates he gave back. We had a nice surplus in those day. He also worked to change the state car licence fee to lower his fees on all his Corvettes. But he could not handle the daily spotlight on his family and his fascination with conspiracy theories.
