Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry holds up his post-card sized version of the tax form he says Americans would fill out if his 20-20 plan were enacted.
Herman Cain’s made a career out of catchy slogans. 9-9-9 is just the latest for the former motivational speaker. Rick Perry may be trying to take a page out of the gimmicky playbook and adding a prop -- the post card.
“That’s all you need,” Perry said holding up a folded over sheet of paper, the size of a post card. On it, an income tax form, he says is all that would be needed to do your taxes if his 20-20 optional flat-tax plan is passed.
“How many people would rather have the old system in place?” he asked rhetorically, before holding up the paper again. “Let’s do it on a post card; let’s do it this way.”
Swiping at Cain, he said his plan wouldn’t include a value-added tax, or a sales tax. “That’s the difference right there,” Perry said, referring to 9-9-not-a-pizza-9. “This post card is the way to do it.”
He added, “This is the way to go” again holding up the paper.
And holding it up one more time, he said, “We’re going to be talking about things like this.”
In all today he said “post card” or held up the paper nine times, seven just at this afternoon’s news conference.
NBC’s Matt Loffman and Morgan Parmet contributed to this report.

TAX REFORM IS GOOD.
Should be only a matter of days until President Desperate for attention trots something out.
I'm sure it'll be totally fantastic.
The reps in congress and the ones running for office have turn this country into a joke. A post card? 999???
What's next? 1,5,7... and a heart shaped post card from Bachmann campaign? what ever the heck that would signify.
I'm all for modifying the tax code, so that the uber wealthy will stop paying an average of 17% in taxes... while someone making $60,000k pays about 25%~30k depending on how much they can write off, *wink* *wink*. It's just not right.
So liberals, bash away at a tax change. What do you happen to fear about a change - not enough revenue to bail out the current spending brought on by the leader of this administration?
Golly, whenever the left doesn't have anything to offer, it's deflect, change the direction of the conversation, or just attack the opposition.
What was that Obama plan again, just tax the bejesus out of the rich and those earning $250K? And how after this tax do you plan on reaching that revenue goal you need, wink, wink, who's next?
Can Rick Perry's postcard deliver? Well, Domenico Montanaro, why don't you, the Reporter, tell us what it means. It's so dishonest to ask a question like that, without explaining - as a Reporter - what Rick Perry's postcard will actually deliver. That's what's wrong with the media. Rick Perry's little postcard, first, is just another way to dismantle Social Security and Medicare, the compact between the government and the citizens. Second, if 9-9-9 doesn't work, how the hell is 20% for everyone going to work. (I understand that you can opt out, so don't go there). But what benefit will his 20% plan have except, again, to continue the blood sucking trickle up economics that we, the middle class, have been experiencing for the last three decades? When are the gimmicks going to stop. Call it what it is, Domenico! Yes, it's that "Ponzi scheme" old Rick talks so much about. But what would you expect from a Republican. I used to like some Republicans, but I cannot abide them any longer. And the fact that they can so lead their supporters to believe that they are actually doing positive things for the country, for prosperity, for job creation, with their lies that are obvious to anyone with a brain, is disgusting, as well as it is disgusting that anyone could fall for the rope-a-dope. And Domenico, if you really are a reporter, why don't you give us the facts instead of playing the little mind games they want you to play. That's what I find so disingenuous about MSNBC. They sit there and allow the stupidest unchallenged comments, then report them like they are the "news". I'm sick of hearing about the half-term governor, the publicity seeking Republican candidates who offer nothing. The Newt Gingriches who need to just sit down and STF up. The blank stare and mind of Ms. Bachmann. The joke that the Republicans would ever let a Herman Cain, a totally non-serious candidate fronting the Koch brothers, win the primary, while they know he is just a throw-away, maybe even he knows it. Mitt Romney who cannot tell from one day to the next who he is or who are actually people, or how to further throw people out of their homes due to the economy that his ilk created and giving his little investor pals the opportunity to rake it in bigtime by just chomping up all those properties and then renting them to the people who were throw out. It's just another reality show here at MSNBC. If you guys would quit bringing up the little trolls and everything they say, and actually report on what is said and what facts are real and what the lies are, wouldn't you be doing a better service to your readers?
This is an idea WHO'S TIME HAS COME. Simplify the F Tax Code -- yes ! ! ! Simple, short, clean, fair, and for you weepy tearbuckets who whine about the down and out. A little progressivity can be added rather easily:
1) let the 1st $20K earned be tax free and flat tax beyond this.
2) exempt tax on food and medicine
3) allow savings accounts $50K or less to earn interest tax free
It DEFINITELY CAN be done and Perry should be applauded for bringing this to the table. He and Cain are driving the debate. Rather than fight against this, Democrats should jump on board and other up "Flat +" or "Flat Lite" or "2 Tier Flat, one from 0 to 100K, the other from 101K -- up".
I am holding in my hand a jewel box from a ring I gave to my wife. In it, I suspect I can fit the 1% minded brains of both Cain and Perry.
Ummm... safe bet it will be stamped with a great BIG red 'return to sender'!
PS: Who the hell files their taxes any more via the Post Office?
Everything is done on-line these days you shmuck!
... "Address unknown."
And never mind trying to find him with GPS. He moves his position too often.
From one flip-flop house to another.
Or Waffle House... take your pick! ;o)
WOW! "Scary Perry" is trying to sell his tax plan on a post card. Now that is scary America! His plan makes it very clear my fellow citizens. The very rich in this nation are going to do very well under "Scary Perry's" Post Card Tax Plan. This individual has no mental capacity for developing any economic policy that is fair for all. He stood up on stage today like a GOP Clown holding up a tax policy for the rich. This reckless GOP Political Spewer will destroy the economic safety nets for those citizens that can not defend themselves. "Scary Perry" does not care about the very rich getting richer. His Post Card Tax Policy is a joke America! Getting Ready to vote yet America?? I hope so!
"I don't care." Yes America! That is truely what "Scary Perry" thinks about the economic health of the nation. He said this very clear, and his very simple mental processing of any information read or said to him. Is just scary!!
Rick Perry gives new meaning to the idea of stupid. What is wrong with Texas that they could elect this clown 3 times.
The multi-millionnaires/billionnaires have increased their wealth, even with the current tax system.
They got those lawyers and tax accountants, so what's the problem. What's with the postcard?
OK Rick, I suppose even a simpleton like you could successfully file (by yourself) on the postcard!...No lawyers or tax accountants needed!
Wesley Clark had the postcard idea a long time ago. But his idea was for those making less than $35,000 to $40,000 to just send in a card stating, "Give me back all of my withholding." If the liberals would make their tax policy that simple, it would get some play.

What is this garbage article doing on here? It doesn't do anything but point out the completely useless fact that Perry likes to hold postcards when he's talking about them. I'm not for the plan, but this article is the exact reason media proves uselss when it comes to reporting on politics.
The current tax rates also fit on a post card.
The fun starts when the lobbyists get going, and you take away all of the tax breaks for Mortgage interest and healthcare.
In 1986, Rep. Dan Rostenkowski chaired the House Ways & Means Committee. He sequestered himself, to re-write the Tax Code.
The only special interests who "got" to him, were the non-profit & religious hospitals, for their tax-exempt bonds.
They hired no lobbyists. They made no political contributions. They subtly implied that--if Cong. Rostenkowski shut the nuns out of the capital markets, so they could not serve the poor--he may go to Hell. (Plus, the alternative to nonprofit & religious hospitals was something like Cook County General.)
Boy, does the USA miss him.
.
How are you going to send a check with a postcard?
It would be easy to get outraged about Rick Perry's mind-bogglingly regressive flat tax proposals or his recent embrace of strict orthodox birtherism, but that would mean Mr. Perry matters at all in any political debate at this stage. Perry's campaign has fallen off the proverbial cliff, done in by a checkered past and a complete lack of intelligence regarding just what can fix the problems Republicans say have been`created by the president. Up against a wall, Perry is trying to throw a range of objects against it, hoping something will stick to entice Tea Party voters again. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
mattpfl your'e right. Although "Scary" could very EASILY be the one NOT voted off the island. Think about it.
Olrock,
Born and raised in Texas I could not agree with you more. Gov. Goodhair will grovel in any gutter for votes. His bottom scraping, dirty tactics put Karl Rove to shame. Can't count him out yet. If he becomes our next POTUS in November 2012, the timing of the Mayan calendar becomes convincing. All of us to hell in a HAIR basket.
Gov, Perry might be bi-polar:
1. Devout Christian never lost a wink over a death warrant. Thou shalt not kill???
2. Pastor pal, rejecting another religion as a cult. New testament: Jesus not cool with judging others.
3. Wife crying about being "abused" for their faith.....uhm No Anita that came from your posse.
4. No choice for women, but state mandated HPV vaccine for girls. Women can't decide, but Rick can!
5. Obama is a foreigner, Troll haired Trump told him. Psych: Rick's just funnin'.
6. Tax code so complicated, he's keeping it AND adding a postcard.
7. Fry illegals. C'mon Herman & Rick just joke. Unless he helps lil illegals to College: more votes for Rick.
8. With Gov Kasich: screw firefighters, cops, teachers; Uhoh, Texas on fire, those %^&$# slackers.
9. Unemployed: Rick feels your pain. Sonny was let go.... er, he resigned to work for daddy.
10. N!ggerhead. Daddy whitewashed that.
Lithium STAT!
So far the mainstream candidate has kept his feet out of the water on tax reform. There is no question that we need tax reform.
There is also no question that we need the Best tax reform plan. I have seen some seeds of good ideas in the plans brought forward by the Republicans but no true plan that would overall be worth implementing.
The fact is that once you try to make taxes "fair" you step on someone's toes, be it the rich, the middle class, or the poor. Because making taxes fair inevitably makes them unfair in the eyes of one or more of those groups.
Perhaps we should adopt the "make them all hollar" plan of taxation. So far i don't hear the rich hollaring about how flat taxes would hurt them.
Dear Mr Buffett,
Thank you for your commentary on taxing the wealthy. I realize you are a very busy man, still, I'd like to ask a small favor. A few weeks ago, you released your tax return to prove the point of the taxes you pay vs the average person.
Would you please consider having your accountant complete a simile of each of the proposed plans offered by the GOP and share with us the outcome? I know many Americans are taking out the calculators to attempt the same kind of comparison, but it might have a bit more impact coming from you following the earlier statements regarding the wealthy needing to pay more.
Thanks so much.
What would fit on Perrys post card a is a list of republicans with IQS that are not in the single digits
Perry is a reckless stupid redneck cowboy, that should not be elected to dog catcher.
Perry is soooooooooooooooo incredibly creepy.

Postcards from the Edge of Campaign Collapse
Dear Rick,
Thanks, but no thanks, for the 20/20 flat tax proposal. It doesn't raise enough revenue to pay our current bills, or to even begin to pay off our huge national debt that you're always whining about.
Also, by giving everyone the option of choosing between two tax systems, you reduce the amount of taxes you can collect, because, unlike Rick Perry supporters, we're not stupid and we'll choose the system that requires us to pay less. I can see it's a windfall for those who live off capital gains, and for those making more than about $200,000 per year, and that's to be expected from someone like you. For everyone else it's a loser. Like your campaign.
I'm enjoying watching GOP candidates trudge around Iowa pigpens this week, knee deep in manure. Wish you were here. Don't let pansy ass Mitt beat you up on stage anymore. Get your wife to smack him around.
XOXOXO
