New Hampshire to set its primary date next week

CONCORD, N.H. -- New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner will likely end months of speculation surrounding the Republican primary season when he sets the first-in-the-nation primary date early next week.

Gardner originally signaled he would set the date today and went as far as preparing a press announcement, but ultimately decided wait until after the presidential primary filing period ends this Friday. The Secretary of State's office said Gardner wants to avoid any conflict with candidates coming into the office to file.

Gardner, who has served as secretary of state since 1976, set the 2008 primary date the day before Thanksgiving in 2007 for Jan. 8. He is widely expected to select Jan. 10 for the 2011 primary.

As of Monday night, 20 total candidates had registered to appear on the ballot and paid the 1000 dollar fee: 18 Republicans and 2 Democrats. Newt Gingrich files this afternoon; Michele Bachmann will file by mail; and Rick Perry will register noon Friday.

So how come Obama's new plan to help homeowners only helps those underwater?

What difference does your equity position make in terms of paying your mortgage?

Anyone?

Suppose they need to move for a job , and need to sell the house. They have no money to pay the differnce between the loan balance and what the house will sell for (remember- they need that job, and it's somewhere else)?

Does their equity position differ from someone else's, that doesn't have that problem?

Their position and ability is the same as the guy who can't afford to make his mortgage.

Let's say guy number on got a 125% loan and is now underwater. He gets help for Obama.

Let's say guy two put 40% down, so although he owes the same as guy one, he has equity, but he can't pay the mortgage either.

Obama thumbs his nose at guy number one.

Doesn't seem too, oh, what;s that word you guys love so much? FAIR.

More government picking winners and losers. Guy One is a loser. Guy 2 at least tried to play by the rules.

A One size fits all argument?

ALL the "guy ones" in this situation leveraged 125%, and put zero down?

I had no idea.

[A One size fits all argument?]

Don't you mean "one size fits Spanky"? That's what Jr. means.

Too bad "counselor", you get enough breaks.

Bye FR, I'm going to seek news on something other than the Teapublican primary (and certain posters who post about topics unrelated to the article).

Obama's new plan does nothing but give him a headline; like Stimulus 2, this is Mortgage Assistance 2. How many mulligans does Obama get?

With this convoluted government 'mortgage assistance', yet more proof of Reagan's eternal truth:

"Government is not the solution, government is the problem."

Jan 10 for NH, likely Jan 3 for Iowa--for now. Wonder which other state will decide to jump the shark and ruin everyone's holidays.

Just listened to Rick Perry answer questions about his new flat tax that isn't really a flat tax. His plan allows you to pick and choose whether you want to stay with the old tax code or try his new 20% plan. Talk about creating a governmental nightmare. He claims that by cutting the high end tax rate to 20%, business tax rate to 20%, eliminating ALL capital gains taxes, ridding us of those "job killing" regulations, he can balance the budget by 2020. He plans to cut education spending by half, eliminate all those horrible "ObamaCare and Dodd/Frank" regulations and just have another free for all banking system which worked so well for us. Make every state like Texas--high unemployment, low wages, bottom of the barrel in education, highest number of uninsured. Perry, Perry, he's your man; if he can't do it, no one can!

If you're not underwater, you're not in the same level of distress and trouble as homeowners who are. Most of the people who are in this distressed position did not and do not willfully default on their loans. If you owe more on your home than it's worth, you can't sell it. If you're underwater on your mortgage and unemployed as a result of the economic "crash," you need help to save your home. If you're not underwater on your mortgage, this help simply isn't for you. What's difficult to understand? I hope everyone around me who needs this can get it. It will help me if they can stay in their homes or sell them for a decent price.

Any who are among the fortunate few in this country who are not unemployed, behind on your mortgage, or owe more than your property is worth - probably through no fault of your own - should be grateful.

Anyone want to complain because they can't get in on this assistance? Seriously...? As of today, I don't need this help...Thank God!!

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for
themselves.
