Perry brings aboard GOP heavy hitters, going up with ads in Iowa

Exactly one month after Rick Perry's disappointing performance in the Florida straw poll, the governor's team in Austin is getting an influx of new talent.

Four veteran GOP operatives are reportedly taking roles with the Perry team amidst faltering poll numbers, just 10 weeks before the Iowa caucuses.

Pollster Tony Fabrizio (first reported by Politico), strategists Nelson Warfield and Curt Anderson (as first reported by Time) will be joining Team Perry, as will Bush 2000 campaign guru Joe Allbaugh.

Fabrizio, who served as Dole's chief strategist in 1996, more recently worked for Gov. Rick Scott in 2010 -- along with Warfield and Anderson.

A source with knowledge of the campaign tells NBC News that Allbaugh "has been quietly helping for some time" with Perry's strategy.

It's unclear what the campaign additions mean for the existing tight-knit staff of Perry loyalists in Austin, but the beefed-up team sends a signal to donors and potential backers - especially in Rick Scott's home state of Florida and the site of Perry's debate Waterloo -- that the Texas governor is willing to assemble a formidable national campaign.

One fundraiser for Perry called the move "necessary and encouraging" and said that calls for the campaign to add more veteran professional pols increased after Perry's poor performance in the Presidency 5 events in Orlando in September.

"Wish it had happened a month ago," the person said.

The news of the staff additions came on the same day as reports that Perry will launch TV ads in Iowa beginning tomorrow. A Perry source confirmed that ads in the state are forthcoming but could not offer details on the timing of the launch.

A spokesman for Perry declined to comment on either the staff changes or the ads, saying that the campaign does not "discuss strategy."

Warfield was Bob Dole's 1996 presidential campaign spokesman and more recently a consultant to candidate Fred Thompson. Curt Anderson worked as a strategist for Steve Forbes in 1999 and served as the political director of the Republican National Committee under Haley Barbour.

All these comments are exactly why our country is in the state it's in right now. What "We " need is a candidate who can bring us back together as "Americans". Obviously, 8 years of Bushinomics compounded by Obamacare and the ineptitude of both the Congress and the Senate regardless of who controls them, has made us a losing bet, as far as our country's credit rating and feasibility is concerned on a global scale. We as Americans need to demand accountability from our elected officials. If they represent us then they should quit representing thier own best interests. I for one, wish to see the budget get balanced the way we balance it at my home, when the $$ gets tight, things need to be eliminated, like it or not. My kids want to eat, have a roof over thier heads, cloths to wear, after that we can keep cable the lights on and so on down the priority ladder. The problem with the politicians we elect is most of them have no worries on apersonal level about how they willl feed their children week to week.

Maybe things will never be good again in America, but I for one have no where else to go.

. . and not as long as corporations are considered to be "people" in terms of campaign advertising. Who amongst us can even come close to spending what they can spend on their candidate of choice? The SCOTUS got that one all wrong and we'll LIKE IT! Sickening, isn't it?

You need a new name onerealman. It does not fit anyone who talks like you. Perry is more of the same that gave the GOP such a bad rap. By the way, Cuba was Communist and Ostriches live with their head in the sand. May I suggest onerealostrich for you new name? Seems to suit you. Show a good GOP choice and I might just vote for him or her. ...Waiting...still waiting... Of course if I had my choice it would be none of the above from either party. I think I'll write in Hilary and Elizabeth Warren on the none of the above ticket. Way better than any of the many evils running now.

If he ever made it to the GOP nomination, Obama would destroy Perry in debates. "What do you think about the idea of secession?", "Do you believe that other religions besides fundamental Christianity are valid?", "Seeing as you believe in the Last Days, do you think it's really worthwhile to plan for the future of our country?", "Do you think that, as a true Christian fundamentalist, you have a moral duty to wage war on all Muslims?" Perry's answers to debate questions such as these might bring a few nervous laughs, but they would blow away any slim chance he might have at the presidency. Rick Perry- the answer to Democrats' dreams. I'm not sure he would even carry Texas, and I say that as a Texan.

Bob g: BEST post, bar none! Perry has made his proverbial bed all by his lonesome, and he'll lie and lie and lie in it because he is shameless. Obama certainly could bury Perry in a debate, but he won't have to. Just let Slick Rick keep bumpin' his gums and his lies will bury him all by their lonesome. Field a decent candidate, Republicans! Don't prop up a loser like Perry! America NEEDS a good field of candidates to make this election more meaningful and legitimate. Republicans are, basically, handing Obama another 4 years, and it's beginning to look like it's being done purposefully. Why? I'm an Independent and not inclined to vote for a Republican at this point because of this most obvious and systemic problem. They're moving their lips, but no one is actually saying anything "new and improved." More of the same old GOP "schtuff" I've seen since they took control of the House? NO THANKS!

Show me a candidate who will get rid of lobbyists and campaign "contributions" from special interest and I just might show that candidate my vote asknreceive. bob, I still like onerealostrich for our boy. Man should not be in the name at all. Unless it's onerealconman. LOL. The problem, ask, is that no self respecting public servant will run much less survive the shark tank we call elections. I think we should all just write in Clinton and Warren under the none of the above platform. Wouldn't it be great if none of the candidates got any votes. That would be one huge statement to both of our crooked parties. Bonus we'd have Hilary's experience and Elizabeth's caring, moxy and skills in the top two spots.

41% is still much better than Congress and most of the GOP onerealostrich. MarkWS it's not the President that will win this, likely it will be the losers running for the GOP that will win it for him. The President is not my 1st choice, Clinton and Warren are, but he is still clearly the lesser of many evils. The current GOP field is either going to sell us out to the United Corporation of America or just plain NUTS!

GW Bush was a two term president...as far as I remember there were no big scandals during his tenure as prez, why no candidate is having him on their campaigns or their events? The same thing happened with McCain in 2008....is that doesn't seems odd to anyone nothing will....and why GW is in hiding? I mean Bill Clinton Foundation is doing marvels all over the world, he's like a freaking rock star but GW has been like a bear hibernating in a cave.

WMD they had no proof and knew. 2. crippling the economy by reducing the revenue stream by giving his good boys in oil, corporations and the other 1% a nice fat tax break. 2.5. Further crippling the economy by starting an unfunded war against the wrong country. Osamma was in Afghanistan. 3. Gitmo, water boarding, torture, you know the things bad guys do. 4. Stealing the election in the first place with his brother Jebs help. The list goes on. GW is not a bear but he most certainly has kept out of site. Probably will continue too until the statute of limitations runs out on his many crimes. Not that they EVER should.

I am middle class and fiscal conservative...in a nutshell why do i support republicans...

because I believe in free markets, limited govt, capitalism and the constitution, personal responsibility, personal accountability...freedom and capitalism has allowed me to get an education and have a great career and live a good life here in USA.

We believe that dems/liberals want to spend our country into the ground...granted, Bush increased our national debt...for the record I am a tea party person now...I was not happy will some of Bush's policies...and will throw any liberal republican under the bus in a NY sec...

I am against redistribution of weath...I believe america is a strong nation because of economic system that allows us to have a strong govt and strong economy and freedom...but I do believe corporate america needs resonable and responsible regulation...fair taxes etc

I have been blessed to travel the world, let me make myself clear...if america loses our economic standing ,as an economic super power, we are done...the rest of the world is catching us and capitalism in countries like india, which I just returned from, vietnam, visted last year, and china have lifted millions out of poverty

No american should ever have to give any govt more that say 25% in total taxes in my opinion..america is about working hard and enjoying the fruits of their labor...I do not believe it is the role of any govt to care for me or anyone else from craddle to grave...but I do think that anyone that breaks the law, ie corp greed and corruption should be prosectured to the fullest extent of the law...keep in mind it takes a corrupt govt offical to take a bribe from a corporation etc...I blame the user more that I blame the supplier...

You are right, ignorance. And those TeaParty are sponsored and organized by "leaders" and "founders" who are under the payroll of the very rich. Look at those who shouted for "small government" when they, their own relatives need government help in health, education etc. And when those who have malicius heart, they are blind although they have eyes, and deaf although they have ears. They become ignorant.

MarkWS you may want to check the size of the boot kicking your ass before you claim success. The election is over a year away and things can change a lot in that time. Always wait for the eggs to hatch before you count your chicks. Its the republicans that have redistributed the wealth in this country not the dems. Look at the tax laws, look at the financial system in this country. How are the wealthy favored over the middle class. You need to take a non emotional look at how things work in this country and you may find you do not like what you see. The republicans are working overtime to take our voting rights away so they control elections. At any given time you could end up with a size 15 in your a$$.

Mark, why I don't support Republicans is simple. I do pay more than 25% If I sell too much while Warren says he pays 15% You are absolutely right that no one should have to pay more than 25% yet we do because a Republican gave his corp buddies a hefty tax break. So thank you mark. Your comment proves my point and also shows how brain washed people are on both sides of this aisle. OWS may well be union but I need an honest source to tell me so. The Blaze and Rush Limbaugh and other partisan sources do not count. They lie and slant things just as much as the Dems. The TP'rs are selling us out, crazy, agenda filled whack jobs and ZI'll wager about to lose big time. Problem is, unlike you my partisan soted friend, I know that regardless of who wins they are on the take one way or another and we lose. Clinton and Warren...2012 on the none of the above ticket. I'm beginning to think 1/2 of the people on that stage, including Bachman and Gingrich, are just props for Perry and Romney. When the real debates begin, and assuming Perry makes it that far, it is just this sort of information that will show him for what he really is. . .a RINO and a prolific flip-flopper. But WAIT! Isn't that the part Romney is supposed to be playing? Seriously, Republicans. . .field a decent candidate and make this thing, at LEAST, interesting! Perry is a No-Go. With reference to our Guv-"The Crook"-Scott in Florida, he is trhe most despised politician in Florida per numerous polls over months (approval rating only in the 30+% range) because of his attack on all thing lower and middle class including all Florida public employees including cops, educators, firemen, etc., his total failure to create jobs as he promised, his givcing away of taxes to businesses at the expense of all other legitimate public obligations, his pushing of huge house insurance hikes without state regulation, cutting unemployment compensation, and on and on-a real immoral and unethical monster. So, if Perry has any real brains, he will run like hell from anyone associated with Scott (our crooked Guvs company was found guilty of the largest, ongoing (over 10 years) fraud against Medicare ever. If he does accept help from someone associated with Scott, then that will only certify Perry as a "win at all costs," unethical scumbag.

I say we just bring back Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich. Both sides would have have a representatives that have brains and are capable of being adults in public.

They could take turns a President, one month on, one month off.

Unless, of course there was a way to bring back Reagan and Roosevelt. That would be even better.

Connie in ABQ - how right you are Newt Gingrich (best one who is running) very smart/Bill Clinton too - Wouldn't it be great to have another Regan - to get our country out of mess Obama has gotten us into.

Frank, there is NO ONE who would like to "have another Reagan", as it was his failed trickle down economics hypothesis that is but one stick in this muddy pile we call our economy. There's no such thing as trickle down economics and that is more than obvious. Look around you and SHOW me, exactly, what's trickled down other than more economic distress for the middle and lower classes. Further, I beg you to take notice of , a full on kink in the funnel that's allowing all the wealth to stay at the top rather than trickle down. The whole notion that ANYTHING trickles down which, for the record, would be akin to Chinese water torture, is hogwash. With all due respect, you're out of touch OR in touch with Sarah Palin. By the way. . .where in the world IS Sarah Palin? GONE, BABY. .GONE!

Stick a fork in Perry because he is toast because of his ignorance and religious nuttery. Cain has also passed him prime and Romney will likely be the GOP nominee, despite having the personality of Wonder Bread.

I viewed the last 2 debates, Both were sort of sad. Michelle should drop out, since she is so far behind,(quit wasting her time and money and ours) that we can get the GOP or Tea Baggers views..

What is your beef with tea party? Do you support the OWS movement going on right now...? Which group peacefully makes their voices heard?

Are you referring to the tea party? There has never been a TP event with guns...put up your facts or shut up..

I think you are review to a 2nd amendment rally..that was not held by tea party....

What Tea Party? They've used up their 15 minutes of fame, and the non-action of those elected under their banner has been an epic fail producing nothing and doing nothing. If you REALLY wanted to endorse a true Tea Party candidate, you'd be backing Ron Paul. He's the Godfather of that movement in every sense of the word, yet those of the Tea Party ilk reject him. I think we all know why. Again. . .what Tea Party?

Mark, name one thing the tea party promised that they have done other than try to beat Obama regardless of who they hurt in the process? Reduce gov.? Nope, Jobs. Bwah ahhahaha. Nope jobs would help the president. So you tell me...what have they done that has helped us? Anything?...................................................................waiting..........................................yawn... The guns at the rally was in the news by the way.lol. They did help S&P to decide to downgrade us but nothing good yet.

"it is scary politically watching Perry." "It is always scary listening to Perry." "Getting scary with Perry." "Socially scary if one votes for Perry." "Scary Perry" can use these as his campaign slogans.

I read an article this morning about the 10 cities in the U.S. with the lowest credit rating. 4 of them are in Texas. This man is so scary. The really scary part is that based upon past voting in this country, I wouldn't be surprised to see another idiot from Texas elected.

The fact that a Republican that supports, protects and even encourages illegal aliens is being considered to be the next Candidate for the Republican party is absurd. If he is elected to be the next candidate, i will stay home on nov. 2012 and pray to God that he'd loose. I rather do another 4 years of Obama, than 1 month of Dumb Perry!

Ron Paul runs ads and has people working on his team but, he did not get a big headline like Perry or Romney NO! Why is that? Oh I know he is not one of the main stream media's ''Pretty Boy's''.
