Perry brings aboard GOP heavy hitters, going up with ads in Iowa

Exactly one month after Rick Perry's disappointing performance in the Florida straw poll, the governor's team in Austin is getting an influx of new talent.

Four veteran GOP operatives are reportedly taking roles with the Perry team amidst faltering poll numbers, just 10 weeks before the Iowa caucuses.

Pollster Tony Fabrizio (first reported by Politico), strategists Nelson Warfield and Curt Anderson (as first reported by Time) will be joining Team Perry, as will Bush 2000 campaign guru Joe Allbaugh.

Fabrizio, who served as Dole's chief strategist in 1996, more recently worked for Gov. Rick Scott in 2010 -- along with Warfield and Anderson.

A source with knowledge of the campaign tells NBC News that Allbaugh "has been quietly helping for some time" with Perry's strategy.

It's unclear what the campaign additions mean for the existing tight-knit staff of Perry loyalists in Austin, but the beefed-up team sends a signal to donors and potential backers - especially in Rick Scott's home state of Florida and the site of Perry's debate Waterloo -- that the Texas governor is willing to assemble a formidable national campaign.

One fundraiser for Perry called the move "necessary and encouraging" and said that calls for the campaign to add more veteran professional pols increased after Perry's poor performance in the Presidency 5 events in Orlando in September.

"Wish it had happened a month ago," the person said.

The news of the staff additions came on the same day as reports that Perry will launch TV ads in Iowa beginning tomorrow. A Perry source confirmed that ads in the state are forthcoming but could not offer details on the timing of the launch.

A spokesman for Perry declined to comment on either the staff changes or the ads, saying that the campaign does not "discuss strategy."

Warfield was Bob Dole's 1996 presidential campaign spokesman and more recently a consultant to candidate Fred Thompson. Curt Anderson worked as a strategist for Steve Forbes in 1999 and served as the political director of the Republican National Committee under Haley Barbour.

We Can't Wait

Impeach Obama NOW!

For what, because the Republicans destroyed our economy so bad that it takes more than a year or two to fix it, or because Republicans were in so tight with the terrorists that our country was somehow attacked on 9/11 while Republicans turned their heads?

We haven't had any safety issues, nor any need to "raise the terrorist threat level" since Republicans left Washington, and NOW you want that riff raff back?

    Hell no.

There is NO WAY that I'm going to vote for someone who calls my Social Security money a "ponzi scheme".

What Perry is talking about is keeping our money and then try to convice us that they never took our money in the first place, but I sure do have my check stubs to prove that they did.

If Republicans REALLY want to dismantle Social Security, they need to start sending us back ALL of our money, with interest paid thereon at the legal rate for ALL of the years they've been taking our money.

He, Barbara, Ron, Herm, Mitt, any of them can bring in whoever they want, until I'm paid enough for my vote they don't have it. That is the way they as politicians work, right? I believe we as voters should expect the no less from them, my vote can be bought for a substantial sum. Which one of them is willing to pony up?

Rick Perry is a deflection to draw off the left's rage and energy, and to make Romney look even more paletable. Couldn't use Palin, that would have been too obvious, even for the near sighted liberals.

the left will use millions of hours and dollars raging against Perry and he is just a diversion. LOL

        a PONZI scheme

        Remember, not only did you
contribute to Social Security, but your employer

did too. *It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. *

If you averaged only 30K over your working life, *that’s close to $220,500 ! *

If you calculate the future value of $4,500 per year (yours & your

employer’s contribution) at a simple 5% (less than what the govt. pays on

the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working (me) you'd* have

        $892,919.98.*

If you took out only 3% per year, you receive *$26,787.60 per year* and it

would last better than 30 years, and that’s with no interest paid on that

final amount on deposit! If you bought an annuity and it pai d 4% per year,

you'd have a lifetime income of *$2,976.40 per month. *

The folks in Washington have pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie

        Madoff ever had.

I wish Perry would leave the economic issues alone and stick to the social conservative side of the GOP. He sounds stupid in the debates and handling economic issues only shows he is following Hermans Cain's populus talk.

I was proud of Perry because he seemed to present America an empty head. He was not pre-programed by the social engineers and Wall Street. Perry had given his mind to God so that he could advance the will of christian conservatives around the country. I was looking for a Reagan conservative or a Goldwater conservative. I wanted a leader who was not afraid to call sin "SIN".

I wanted a leader who would send Row V. Wade running for the hills and mexicans running back across the boarder. I wanted gays and homosexuals running from the military. I wanted unions to run away from politics and jobs running back to America. I wanted colored folks to stop stealing our young white gals, to stop feeding them dope and sex. I wanted prayer to return to our classrooms and mothers who were proud to stay at home and let men be men. I wanted an American that we could be proud of as president.

I wanted our flag to again become the envy of the world. The Red, White, and Blue when raised still brings tears to my eyes. As much as I loved Governor Rick Perry, he is now being spooked by pool numbers. I wanted a President like Ike. I guess I will never see the Ozzie and Harriet Nelsons again. TV with all its smut will never be like the old Skelton and Gleason shows.

Civil rights are going to continue stealing jobs from qualified Americans creating reverse discrimination. Why do we need civil rights laws anyway? Why can't we just have American laws for all people. The coloreds should be treated like real Americans. They should be tested on character. This is what their leader said before someone blew his brains out. Why can't we be just one America?

We need a God fearing leader, who is a true christian, to bring us back to the roots of our four fathers. Is this the America we want to give to our children? I am Governor Perry's biggest supporter but, he is starting to leave the Tea Party goals. He is starting to behave like a politician. Even if a republican wins, how can we take our country back? Romney is a mormon and, like the scientologist, he has no respect for the American God. This is why so many christian conservatives hate him.

Bachmann is now a deflated balloon head who forgot the purpose of the Tea Party. She can't even remember true American history like the birthdate of Elvis on January 8. She thought the Pilgrims came to the United States. There was no United States until God took it from the savages.

Ron Paul is an anarchist and wants to end the wars which produce heros for generations to come. Not only do they produce heroes, they demonstrate stregnth to the world that we are not to be messed with. Santorium slept with a dead fetus and that's just weird.

Cain? After what we did to those people how can they truly be trusted? Besides, making a pizza is not a qualifier for prsident - no more than palling around will Bill Ayers. America needs to come back to God. We need to fill up the churches again. We need to stop murdering the unborn, close down the United Nations, the EPA, the Department of Education, the I.R.S., end Dodd Frank, stop Obamacare, and open the Bibles. Our laws must be God's laws. We need to take our country back. This is what will make us better. God bless America.

Hey, Willie White & Nappy... God Is Dead! If "she's" not, then prove it! LOL

Can I have your civil rights, since you don't need 'em? Whine on.

BTW: Obama wins again in 2012...!!!

I thought all you people believed in God? God is not dead. I used to listen to your people sing what was once called spirituals. Now all you people do, as our pastor said is listen to a bunch of violence and rape music about killing our men in uniform. This is not a time for racial or radical politics. This is a time to get America back on track and living in the will and admonition of God.

Willie, need we point out that HItler was a devout christian too? Sorry 'ol boy, but its not only your concept of God that is dead, your way of thinking is dead too. This is the 21st century and Ozzie is gone.

I take it you are colored? Most Americans stand with Perry. More stand with him than they do with Obama. Perry is what America needs at this stage. He believes in the true principals of those who love America best. It is OK for your people to vote for him. He would represent all of us and bring us back to the good old days when our flag meant something.

If that's the case, why is it his popularity even among Republicans is a whopping 6%??? Even most Republicans know the guy is an idiot, a moron and a fool.

Perry also has proof from Donald Trump that Obama's birth certificate is not real. Obama should be impeached for lying to the public and betraying the trust of sensible citizens. Please pray for Rick Perry that he comes back to his senses. He is our greatest hope. He is a strict constitutionalist and supports our second amendment rights. He is a christian and as Sean Hannity says, a true patriot.

The conservatives are 75% of the Republican Party and they will not settle this time like they did with Dole and McCain.

Makes you wonder why anyone would think all the problems caused by Bush's group of war criminals could be fixed so quickly. He inherited two wars and tax cuts needed to pay for them and an economy that was in free fall. Maybe the intelligentsia thinks we should put this party that dam near ruined us back in power . The script for cutting any programs that benefit the middle class or determination to lower the tax rate for the rich should be reason enough to not vote for them. You must know something that the middle class doesn't.
