IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Congressman Ron Paul was greeted with chants of "President Paul" from a crowd of more than 1,000 at the University of Iowa Friday night, where his campaign held a "Youth For Ron Paul" event on homecoming weekend.
"I was told this was a special weekend and not too many would show up," Paul said. "Thank you for coming!"
The 76-year-old congressman was enthusiastic and tailored his speech to the 20-something crowd, receiving multiple standing ovations, as he placed particular emphasis on personal liberty.
"I think of liberty as being self ownership. Who owns you; who owns your life; who has the responsibility for you. … Some of this comes from self ownership, of course it means that it’s your body and people shouldn’t tell you what to do with your body," said Paul, who is staunchly anti-abortion rights.
"You should use your liberty, from my viewpoint, and my advice is use it in a productive manner. I see liberty as the release of creative energy and the purpose is to work for excellence and virtue. … If your spiritual life, which is a serious responsibility, and your intellectual life is a serious responsibility, why is it that we assume you can have free decisions there,\; why shouldn’t you have free decisions on what you eat, drink, smoke and put into your own body!"
Paul continued to focus on the war on drugs, as he did on Wednesday at the UNLV "Youth For Ron Paul" event. To emphasize his position, Paul told the story of Jose Guerena, a former U.S. Marine who served two tours in Iraq and was killed May 5th by a Pima County SWAT team, which mistakenly raided his home on the assumption he was in possession of marijuana -- as Guerena's wife and 4-year-old child hid in a closet. Guerena was holding a rifle when he was shot, according to police. Police also said they found a large sum of money in his house.
"He had nothing in his house," Paul said. "What are we doing to ourselves? … Right now, I fear for the destruction of my liberty and your liberty from domestic threats."
Talking about the Republican presidential campaign, Paul contrasted his donors with GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney’s by sharing his recent fundraising totals -- his top three individual donations come from members of the U.S. Air Force, Army, and Navy.
"There is another candidate, and I'll let you guess who it is, but he's top in the polls right now," Paul said. "And he's got top three donations, and they all came from three big banking institutions." That was greeted with boos.
"I wonder if they expect to get some special benefits from the Federal Reserve or just what -- another bailout."
Paul also went after President Obama and the U.S. role in Libya.
"Oh yeah, great victory yesterday," Paul said sarcastically of the death of Moammar Khaddafy. "And the President is bragging, 'Got another one.' How can we be proud of that? No matter how bad a guy he was, who’s responsibility? It’s the responsibility of the people of Libya to make their self determination and deal with that. But no, we ended up paying for this. It was our bombs and our weapons that do this and believe me, it will be our burden. It is not going to go away."
Reports indicate members of Libyan rebel forces are the ones who found and killed Khaddafy, not the United States. The United States played a support role in the overall mission in Libya.
Paul named a number of individuals that the U.S. government had previously supported, including Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, Iraq's Saddam Hussein, Nicaragua's Manuel Noriega, Iran's Mohammad Mosaddegh, and even Osama bin Laden when he was a member of the Mujahideen fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s.
"It makes no sense whatsoever," Paul said. "It’s a schizophrenic foreign policy. … They only have two options -- we tell a dictator what to do, and if he does it, we give him a lot of money. If he doesn’t do it, we kill him!" He added, "If you look at Pakistan, they actually came up with a third option. The third option is we’ll do both -- we’ll keep bombing you and undermining, killing people making them mad at their own government, because their government supports us, and we give the government money. And we wonder why there’s chaos in that country. But I tell you what, there’s another option … that is the one the founders advised … making friends with as many people who want to be friends and trade with as many people who want to trade. Not try to get involved in the internal affairs, not to get involved in entangling alliances."
Paul also said the reason he chose to go into medicine, a first on the campaign trail in Iowa, was because he didn't want to fight in war, carry a gun, or "shoot anybody."
"One of the reasons I went into medicine, because I do remember World War II and Korea," he said, "and I hadn’t decided what profession to get into. One of the things that motivated me to go into medicine is the fact that I never wanted to carry a gun. I never wanted to shoot anybody and I thought well, I’ll probably get drafted someday, and I certainly am not going to play that game in war. And lo and behold, I was drafted in 1962, ended up being in the service for five years."

Question: Why are Republicans ALWAYS afraid of something?
Answer: Because they have found it to be a most effective tool to rule their supporters!
Hint: It doesn't work on this voter never has... NEVER will! ;o)
So you don't see that we are going down the wrong path in this country? You MUST be a baby boomer whos been voting for the candidate that whispers sweet nothings in our ears while reaching their hand into our pockets. Thanks for putting the younger generation in this mess by not doing anything, I see somethings never change, never has.... NEVER will! ;0)
You got it. Fear was the basis of the Bush White House even before 9/11. Today's Republicans thrive on fear. That's all they have to sell. They are afraid of blacks, Hispanics, gays, atheist, Mormons, Muslims, Hollywood, unions, teachers, seniors, young people, anyone living in New England or on the west coast, poor people, college students, anyone who is in any way -- the slightest bet different form them -- republicans are afraid of them.
Who will ever forget them telling Americans to stock up on plastic sheeting & duct tape? lol
There were enough idiots out there that took the advice - Home Depot RAN OUT!!!
Bottom line is - they're terrified of anyone who isn't pale - stale & male!
Yeah... but he's not saying he's afraid of any of the stuff you listed. He's actually calling the gov. and the party out and talking about the real issues of gov, deficit spending, and not giving the people ENOUGH freedom. Doesn't it strike you old peole that he's 76 years old and sees that the real issues are the ones the other candidates are trying really heard to skate around?
Feist Redhead: So what is it like working for MSNBC? How is it that on 95% of articles you happen to be the very first person to post? Always trying to steer the conversation to the left. So far to the left in fact that the bus dries over a cliff. You trying to say that Republicans always use fear to motivate people is laughable. BOTH parties do that. The Dem's just happen to use fear when it comes to global warming, toxins in the environment and other hippie BS. The US government needs to get out of our lives and out of the lives of everybody around the world. Ron Paul is right. Why are you so scared of that Feisty Redhead???
Ron Paul nor anyone else is calling for divisive politics against class or race or gender. We are calling for the end of debt. The cutting up of the credit card.
Some of you are so addicted to welfare that you think it's a right. Well that's all find and dandy as long as there is some money to go around. Now there is none. We're broke. Tapped out. You need to get up and take care of yourself. Ask your friends and family for help first. Then into the larger community next.
Take the time to Google Ron Paul and watch some YouTube videos. You'll be pleasantly surprised about his real message. Not the propaganda you're seeing from the MSM. If you believe one thing from the MSM about Ron Paul then you've allowed yourself to be fooled by them. They stand to lose the most.
@anonoped: Thank you for making sense. I'm glad some people out there are not blinded bythe lies of the MSM. This country is broken. It needs help. Dr. Paul has the right prescription.
Ron Paul 2012. The Revolution is growing.
Ohio Straw Poll today if anybody lives near The Ohio State University 1739 N.High Street, Columbus Ohio. Vote, let your voice be heard.
'Got another one.' How can we be proud of that?
This from a man that does not mind to let his best friend die because he can not afford health care insurance.
This lunatic needs to make up his mind and stop flopping the issues for the benefit of his campaign.
Maybe he should just get all his followers together into the Mojave desert and get stoned. Then they all can sahre stories of how wonderful his dumbass ideas are.
@Irespond
While Mr. Snyder could not afford health insurance, he got $400,000 worth of health care.
Also, there is no cure for AIDS and you're ghoulish use of a dead person as a political club reveals you as the monster you are.
Please wake up, you have no idea what Ron Paul stands for except from what the MSM has fed you. Go find out for yourself, use your brain if you have one.
Another democrat with thier blinders on. "After two years, however, we now see that Obama 1) conducts wars against countries that do not threaten us (e.g. Libya, Yemen etc.), 2) oversees large financial benefits to companies with which those in his administration were close (e.g. Goldman Sachs), 3) supports the legal framework for riding roughshod over the liberties of private individuals who are not suspected of crime (e.g. Patriot Act), and 4) is growing a massive federal apparatus to carry out such intrusions on innocent Americans in what is becoming a police state (e.g. domestic wiretapping, TSA etc..
If you are a Democrat, and you sit tight and vote Democrat again "because you've always been a Democrat" or because you think that some group with which you identity will benefit more from Democrat programs than a Republican one, then that is up to you, and I wish you well. But don't you dare pretend that you are motivated primarily by peace, civil rights or a government that treats people equally.
That Ron Paul, who has been standing up for these principles quietly for half a lifetime, happens to be a member of the Republican party is a lot less important than the principles that we should be voting on. The fact that he is not a party guy should be obvious from his extensive differences in policy from his party and the fact that many think, given his views, he should not run as a Republican at all". - Robin Koerner
The irony here is that the greatest domestic threat to individual liberty is the religious right movement which Paul and his son have allied themselves with, if not outright joined.
Rank hypocrisy. And he's supposed to be the ideological purist of the Republican field? Please.
@ anonoped who wrote:

As much as you guys love this individual, it does not give you the right to make personal attacks to others. Besides the fact that I reported you to the vine for violating the code of honor, you need to learn that most people have the right to express their sentiments about the "Presidential hopefuls" the way that they feel they deserve it.
the right thrives on fear??? Here on FR it is the libs and progressives who thrive on fear. Oh no, we will return to the past. Water and air polution will return to kill us all, Granny and granpa will be thrown under the train if we don't keep spending. On and on it goes, the liberal/progressive ideals are full of unintended consequences that we will all pay for dearly in the future.
Showing an ID to vote is so bad, ignoring deficits is so good and thinking that government spending will lead America down the path of prosperity.
Paul is a little late in expressing his fears of the destruction of liberty from domestic threats. It is already here and thriving. Victims have very few rights and the perps have many.
FYI - Dr Paul has been talking about this problem for DECADES - this is NOTHING NEW - just new to you.
He saw what BOTH parties were doing for years and that's why he got into politics 35+ years ago. Both sides are so corrupt, so bought off, so manipulated, so untrustworthy and Dr Paul has been fighting through this for many years trying to wake up this country. He is an incredible man with incredible courage and integrity. He has ONLY spoken the truth - not B/S'd people and telling them what they want to hear to make they feel good and safe. And what I'm seeing is that people either can confront what is going on or they can't...
I am always amused when the Ron Paul cultists show up at FR. Deluded is always the first word that comes to mind when I read their rants. Ignorant is another.
Let me say this in all candor, so you Paulists can slowly begin to take it in. Ron Paul is unelectable. Just that. He is a national joke. His followers are bigger jokes.
You will never see Paul in the White House. Responsible people see through him.
Ron Paul is too old to run for President. Also, he is an Anarchist who wants to see ALL of Government destroyed for some fictional Utopia.
Obama 2012
I hope everyone who voted Obama on "change" to vote for Ron Paul.
If you have time I suggest watching the actual video of the presentation instead of just reading the MSNBC shortened account of it.
http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/RonPaulRema/start/527/stop/3600
@IRESPOND-2315268, How hypocritical of you. You personally insult Ron Paul and his followers, calling him a lunatic, and saying we should all go to the desert and get stoned, then cry foul when someone personally insults you back? Nice. And what do you mean "most" people have the "right" to express themselves about Presidential hopefuls as they see fit. "Most" people...if I read between the lines, I'm guessing you mean "everyone except Ron Paul supporters."
I would say, we are afraid of you, old man!
"WE?" do you have a mouse in your pocket? So you're afraid of what you'll do if the government stops micromanaging us? Afraid of what will happen if people are truly left to their own devices as the founding fathers wanted? Afraid of what will happen to all those foreign countries who get millions of our tax dollars while we get nothing back? I'm more afraid of cartels coming into this country and putting the lives of my retired parents in san antonio at risk, more afriad of the next president continuing to spend as the romans did before they fell, afraid for the future of my children, and most of all, i'm more afraid of boomers like you who refuse to face the problem and believe the answer is another plastic president. Go a head and vote for Romney, you two deserve eachother. I'm more afraid of you, old woman!
Not me - I'm PROUDLY voting for President Obama... again!
I'm a Obama girl all the way baby!
To you & the rest of the anti-gubment nut jobs, you might want to think about moving to Somalia...
I hear it's LOVELY this time of year!
You see Government here in the good old U.S. of A is here to stay - which is why your fear is palpable!
You truly are a whack job Feisty Redhead. And why is it always about race with you?
You've deluded yourself to the point that you can see in your mind that a conservative person equates to a lawless Somalia.
Did you know that the U.S. has a constitution that lays out inalienable rights? Did you know Somalia is a sovereign country without a constitution? In what way are either comparable. You're self deluding.
By the way, that 'lawless' Somalia is actually lawless because of the policies of America that you have blindly and ignorantly followed. The neocons/neolibs have been fighting a proxy religious war there for a decade.
You have no idea what is really going on. I ask that you simply wake up. Find a Ron Paul speech on YouTube and watch him actually talk. Don't get your propaganda from anywhere else but the source.
You have no idea what is really going on. I ask that you simply wake up. Find a Ron Paul speech on YouTube and watch him actually talk. Don't get your propaganda from anywhere else but the source.
Like all those people that believe that Ron Paul has a chance Ha ha ha...How delusional!
Ron Paul has a very good chance. Newt, Herman, Michele and Rick S. are out of money. Perry can't seem to get out of his own way. Romney is far too liberal for conservatives. That leaves Ron Paul and the Revolution at the front of the line.
Ron Paul 2012.
Ron Paul has zero chance of being elected President.
Head to head Ron Paul would crush Obama.
.
It is so strange how people just assume that someone of a political party is the same as the whole group. I am a liberatarian, used to be conservative republican, and am still conservative. To set the record straight about some of the posts that are so untrue. I am a bible beilever, God worshipping, white conservative for Ron Paul, I have 2 bi-racial children. I am also considered poverty level. But I can not abandone morals that God has put in my heart. I do not have a racist bone in my body, and neither does my whole family, we are almost all conservative. We, even being poor, would give someone the last shirt off our backs. I beileve in reaping what is being sown. That goes for how we treat other people of other political parties, races, cultures, religions. I dont beileve in the hard immigration approaches that politicians have for mexico and its borders. These are real people, real children and families, they deserve a chance. I do not beileve that being gay is really normal although, it is an issue I am leaving in Gods hands! When it will hurt the vary nature of Gods forgiveness, and love to treat these americans any different. Most concervatives have a problem getting republican voters like me because of these couple of issues, things have ultimetely changed in this world since Reagon. People need to apply his morals to this day and age. Increasing communication around the globe is bonding people of the whole world, of all different faiths and races. So please back off conservatives, or republicans, as your comments do not portray the younger generation of liberatarians that are growing so fast. Ron Paul is our only HOPE!!!!!!!!
Afraid of what? Listen to someone from your own state! What you should be afraid of is the statuesque! If we do not do something to change this and soon, we are all going to pay! Look what the TSA is doing in Tenn.? They are stopping vehicles and trucks and searching them! When is this attack on our Liberty going to stop? When we have to get permission from the government to leave our homes? Go on vacation? You may feel I am exaggerating, but look around, would you have thought 12 years ago you would have to be body searched to get on a plain or go to a football game? Soon it will be the shopping malls? It is time for all of us to rise up and say NO! We will not go down without a fight!!!!
Ron Paul 2012!!!!!
Where did this term "anti-abortion rights" come from? I've never heard it until recently. I'm going to start calling people who are pro-choice "anti-being born rights".
At #3 --
See that started when abortion was declared legal in the United States and people (seemingly unable to grasp the idea of a women being allowed to make her own decisions regarding reproduction) decided that shouldn't be the case. Hence ANTI-abortion rights.
"I think of liberty as being self ownership. Who owns you; who owns your life; who has the responsibility for you. … Some of this comes from self ownership, of course it means that it’s your body and people shouldn’t tell you what to do with your body," said Paul, who is staunchly anti-abortion rights.
If Paul actually believed the crap he is spewing then he would be pro-choice. That's if he really believes in liberty and self ownership and others have no right to tell you what to with your body.
The author misquoted in a sneaky sort of way. Paul in his personal belief is pro-life. However, he doesn't believe that the federal govt. should be involved in the issue of abortion rights OR defining it. He has said in one of his more recent books that the morality of people cannot be changed by govt. or laws.
Coincidently, he feels similarly to same sex marriage. That the federal govt. shouldn't be in the position to define for all of us one way or another. That either way it goes someone loses their liberty or choice. It shouldn't be managed at all by govt.
However, most folks don't know this and instead lump him in with the standard GOP group.
Check him out, not just read the sneaky smear reports. Actually, read some about him. When you get his full stance and message it is pretty unique.
I don't know. Paul has delivered over 4000 babies and believes that human life is precious. (He thinks those kids are people too) I find it strange that killing babies is such a cause celeb of liberals! I mean, really? Baby killing? That's the right you want to have so badly? I find it strange that people even consider it.
This is a wedge issue designed to befuddle the people who are not smart enough to see the rest of the establishment looting the treasury.
pro or against - it won't be settled without a constitutional amendment and the the status quo has defaulted to pro since 1972. 40 years of dummies arguing over something they'll never do or see and while they jabber about this America is in five wars, 100% GDP to debt ratio, 75 trillion in unsecured debt and the FED just magically created 15 trillion of which 3 trillion was given to foreign countries and banks. (26 billion went to Libya while Qaddafi was still in power). All facts easily found on a simple Google search.
Occupy the Fed.
You are missing the simple point that it is not up to the FED to decide on Abortion and you have got to read the history of Roe V Wade to see the evil behind it. As well as Margaret Higgins Sanger who was a clear racist in her writings and founder of Planned Parenthood who our gov. gives funds to. Maybe that's why they are in most minority neighborhoods (Still killing blacks). Secondly being pro-LIFE I have the right to speak out against it ANYWHERE(FREEDOM OF SPEECH GOES BOTHWAYS). I also feel that you need again to understand what this nation was founded on and I hope your journey to freeing your mind brings you back to Ron Paul(FREEDOM not SERFDOM). Start with the 5000 year leap. I for one will write him in even if he does not get the nomination. I personally will not vote for the lesser of two evils ever again. If you noticed we are still at war when Obama said he would bring the troops home guess the money making banksters from Jekyll Island, Ga. are still getting their way since pushing The Federal Reserve Act Legislation through during Christmas break in 1913. Wow not to many well read in this group.
whatever, this is from Paul's official campaign site:
Does that sound like someone who wants the federal government out of the issue? He wants the federal courts out of it, thereby removing a protection for personal liberties, but he wants the federal legislature to define life beginning at conception, which would make all abortion and some forms of birth control equivalent to murder. I don't see much daylight between him and the radical social conservatives there, sorry.
Yep, hypocrisy and ignorance...thy name is Ron Paul.
Americans First-3238795, Nathan-1680585, he believes in pro choice, he just doesnt think women should wait 30-40 weeks to abort the baby. At that time if the baby is pulled from the womb to be aborted, it could live on its own until the doctor kills it. he thinks that is bad, the doctor having to kill it. if women are raped they dont want the baby they dont have to, they can abort it all the way up till the baby is able to survive outside of womb. Im not religious and i think that is acceptable
Dr. Paul rocks. I always wonder who people are parroting when they criticize him because he Just Makes Sense :)
A lot of his libertarian views make some sense and sound good because of the individual freedoms, but taken to the extremes that he has talked about in the past, and some of his ideas about the monetary system, just become unworkable for a variety of reasons.
what type of reasons are they unworkable, Mr. Gump?
Do you really want to legalize all drugs, do you really think we can dissolve the Federal reserve and go back to a gold standard type of currency system, all those kinds of things make a certain sense from a facet, but overall it is probably not workable to make crack cocaine legal and just a personal choice. Mr. Paul will say I don't plan on taking heroin, and you don't plan on taking herion, so why should I care if it is legal, I'm not going to do it anyway. He will tell you that those kinds of things are not the function of the US government to decide. Yet in our Society many people feel those kinds of laws and regulation is still a good thing overall. I like some of what he says, but he goes way past that and then some, and politically, socially, and economically, it's not going to happen, even republicans don't want that to happen, that is why they treat him like a ghost, and he is probably beating Perry.
If the Federal Government made all drugs legal I doubt the States and the people of those States wouldn't want to create their own laws against dangerous drugs. So all I see are the benefits of ending the war on drugs, not just for the U.S., but Mexico as well.
The truly sad part of all of this, is that he is the sanest one of the lot that has been parading before the American public, on the right side of the aisle.
You think the gridlock in D.C. is bad now? Just imagine when neither party would listen or lift a finger, if he was elected, what this country would look like.
He has SOME good ideas but some are so far out there that you just scratch your head and say WTF. You end up with the same look on your face as the r/tp candidates currently running for POTUS have, just a blank and bewildered stare. That is NOT the kind of person you want with their hand on the red button.
It is truly a sorry state of affairs, that the current parties have tried to force the voters into choosing for the lesser of two evils to carry out the ideology of the party, instead of for the best candidate for doing what is in the best interest of the country.
@Ih8war- States can make their own laws regulating drugs. What a concept. I wish the others would figure that out.
Well I don't plan on taking heroin either, just like Mr. Paul says, so it makes some sense on a level, but it's not going to happen, there are people who have been trying to get marijuana legalized for 25-30 years now. The American people are just not ready to go that far yet. It's kind of like abortion, the American people don't want to give that up, we have had that for 35 years now and the American people are fine with that, or we would have changed it by now. I could make the case that we are more worried about our beer than we are abortion. We amended the Constitution to prohibit alcohol and then repealed that amendment inside of five years. You tie an abortion bill to a beer bill and then you might get somewhere.
"Who owns you; who owns your life”
Thanks to SCOTUS and Citizens United it is now the rich
and powerful more now than ever before.
You know what Dennis I keep hearing how union dues support the democrats and I always try to explain how that is not dues money how it is separate, voluntary and you need signed authorization cards to collect any political action money, but my point is, now what is the point, I bet unions could now challenge all those other laws and win in the SCOTUS, due to the CU ruling. Do each of the stockholders of a corporation have to sign authorization cards to allow the corporation to donate to political causes, you know they don't. I think unions now if they wanted to could use the same ruling to raise dues and use that money politically in any way or any amount they wish, defeating long established ethical, and legal standard practices. I did not mean to change the subject of Ron Paul, but you brought up CU and this has been on my mind.
As fas as the question "Who owns you; who owns your life”
I'm pretty sure Mrs. Grump, and our Grumpsters, owned my life, at least they were the first in line, and I never really thought about it much past that.
Ron Paul is the last chance America has before the destruction of the empire.
If you're under 40, go grab your parents, make them register republican and drive them to the primary. These baby boomers will kick and scream all the way down but they have to take their medicine. They caused this mess and left the clean up to us, their children and grand-children.
This is the dumbest post. I didn't cause this mess, I am thinking wars and tax cuts and wall street crashing caused this mess. You know republicans. Ron Paul is just another republican.
Ron Paul wants to kill our government to give more tax cuts to the rich. He can claim any reason he wants, but the real truth Paul is and always has been for the 1%. If you don't believe me, check out his voting record.
I am not saying that Paul doesn't have a couple good ideals, but we are out of Iraq now. It is just most of his ideals are nuts.
The medicine you speak of sounds more like the republican kool-ade you want us to drink. No thanks.
For the love of America Obama/Biden 2012
Yea, you sound just like a 60 year old spoiled brat. Your attention span is so short that you honestly believe your generation is completely innocent from driving the country off the cliff.
There is functionally no difference between a repub and a dem. Two sides of the same coin. Heck Romney is left of Obama.
It's okay, we understand you've been indoctrinated. Please wake up, go to YouTube, watch a couple Ron Paul videos, watch a couple of videos on debt and the FED. Then if you want you can come back here and apologize.
The only medicine you should be taking is reality. Do you honestly think that your social security check will be able to pay for more than a cheeseburger at McDonald's after the government and FED are done trying to inflate their way out of the 75 trillion in unsecured debt your generation has saddled us with?
Gross exaggeration does nothing to add any credibility to your rant..
Source of your 'figure' please? lol
Or did Ron Paul - just tell you this? *wink wink*
"Ron Paul is the last chance America has before the destruction of the empire."
Another conservative preaching fear!!! I'm 66 years old and I remember back when I was about 8 years old conservatives telling me America was finished. No doubt about it --- by 1970, america would no longer be around. The Russians -- the atheistic communist --- were going to destroy us. And for a few years -- I believed it. Well --- that didn't exactly happen did it!!! So anonoped -- go crawl into your back yard bomb shelter and hide form the universe because Ron Paul isn't is going nowhere.
Actually, this mess IS the boomers fault, by not writing to your congressmen or keeping an eye on what the governement was doing, YOU ALL allowed us to go down this road. SPEND SPEND SPEND has been this countries policy for many decades, decades before the younger generation was even born. But that's ok, we'll take it from here. Just take your meds and vote for Romney.
Here's a link to the nypost.
If the link is removed just Google: "the shocking true size of our nations debt"
Please understand unlike you. I'm awake. You'll be kicking and screaming all the way to the end but your careless treatment of the country has put it in a bad way. Please wake up.
You really think you know so much about Ron Paul by claiming he is just another republican? You are the one, sir or ms., drinking the kool-ade. Under Obama we have advanced in our military adventurism. We are a breath away from going after Iran...and there is a continuing push by Obama to get his new jobs bill pushed through.
We are NOT out of IRaq. They literally stated what was to occur yesterday. My guess is that the big reasons were 1) stay true to his mantra from the candidacy and 2) Iraq doesn't want us there and didn't agree to give our soldiers immunity if they were to stay.
Interesting book that just came out, "we meant well" by peter van burn, who wrote about his experiences in Iraq (in 09) and the failed attempts in nation building. the corruption, waste and inefficiency of our tax money to "fix" things. We can blame Bush but Obama certainly hasn't improved in this regard and in now, in my opinion, is leaving for salvaging a talking point politically more than anything. The end result is still great! out of Iraq, but the means may not be as cut and dry.
Ron Paul is unlike all other candidates because he:
1. Predicted the housing bubble and collapse YEARS before it occurred.
2. Understands that it is the moral hazard created by the federal reserve's funding and bailing out of banks and big companies (secretly at times). This means that companies and banks, that know they are too big to fail, invest more haphazardly than they would if the federal reserve and govt. were not there to catch them if they fall. This is like giving paris hilton additional lines of credit and expecting her to act responsibly. I am exaggerating, but, the hazard remains and the investing with our money continues and nothing changes.
Should the magical powers of the FED not be there to catch these entities they would have to invest more wisely which would mean less risk for collapse. This would also mean they would need to perform better as a company or bank and ultimately if everyone is on a level playing field (no crony capitalism) the economy will thrive.
3. In addition to the bailouts and funding of companies noted above, the fed's ability to print additional money adding more money into the mix increases the amount of money in comparison with the level of goods and services performed. This can lead to, the business cycle. And more distinctly our govt.'s ability to fund things with no limit or much less limit. Such as foreign wars.
All I ask is that, although on the surface, Ron Paul seems like every other republican, you take a few minutes and research him. Look up, Ron Paul predictions on youtube. watch the 9 minute video. How could someone have known this could happen? I listened to NPR most days from 2007 through to mid 2011. I remember hearing about how no one saw the collapse coming. How did this guy from congress see it coming? That's what I asked myself. Then I thought, hmm, maybe I should learn a little more about him.
It wasn't easy to wrap myself around everything he has said, at first. But, once you learn that he stems from the constitution first and then his economic stance (Austrian economic theory), he is unlike the standard GOP'er in many ways and frankly most all other politicians.
Throw in his consistency and conviction and he has my vote.
Last time I checked it's 2011...
I stand by my original observation of gross exaggeration.
I read the entire article and cannot locate where it states our current debt is 75 trillion.
The Congressional Budget Office released a new report this week showing that the federal government’s publicly held debt would top 101% of GDP by 2021,

seventh paragraph.
"Add it all up, and total US debt actually exceeds 900% of GDP. That’s somewhere in excess of $120 trillion. We are beginning to talk real money here"
I've made my point. You're either trolling or so obtuse that you're off your meds. I'm done talking with you.
Good Day Ma'am. Good Day!
The shocking size of our national debt was created by wars and tax cuts and the 2008 Wall street crash. Our country could easily turn around. Just 10 years ago, just a short 10 years ago our country had low unemployment, we were budgeting surpluses to pay our debt down. In 10 years we were to be out of debt if we stayed on our current path.
Republicans came to power and immediately decided instead of paying down our debt we should grow our debt by borrowing money and giving tax cuts our country could not afford. Then during the wars, Bush even went for a couple more tax cuts aimed at the rich.
You may want to blame everyone over 40 but a lot of us were voting for Democrats and not for what Bush and the republicans were doing to our country.
Ron Paul doesn't want to raise taxes and pay down our debt. Paul was one of those that raised his hand that cuts 10 to 1 to increases would not be enough to raise taxes. Ron Paul wants to balance our budget with cuts only. How does turning our country over to the 1% do anything for America?
In my mind, voting for Ron Paul is the most careless treatment of our country that I can think of. Ron Paul like the rest of the republicans stand for the 1% and only for the 1%.
When Ron Paul says he is ready to raise taxes to get our country moving again, only then will I believe he gives a chit for America.
For the love of America Obama/Biden 2012
The only people turning our country over to the "1%" are democrats, republicans, and the federal reserve who conitnually bail out the 1 percent. The size of the government has grown in all areas not just in war. Research the growth of the Federal Department of Education and coincide that with improvements in our educational system. It has an inverse relationship. That is just one area of growth. This nation is a republic.
GOT IT?
@Americans First
You have no idea how basic finances work. You're blinded by the dem vs. repub when in reality there is no difference between the two groups.
Don't tell me Ron Paul raised his hand when he has a 25 year voting record of never voting for a tax increase as they are unconstitutional. Until you actually know what Ron Paul stands for and advocates you can't actually have an adult conversation.
You may be older but you're acting like a spoiled brat. Wake up. Go to YouTube. Search Ron Paul. Watch videos. After you're done crying as you realize you've been party to the bankruptcy of your own country, you can come back here and have a discussion like an adult.
You have to convince republicans first that Ron Paul is their man, they treat him like a ghost, I don't see Fox talking him up, you can't expect to flip democrats for Ron Paul if Republicans don't like him enough to give him the republican nomination.
I find it comical that Obama/Biden supporters on here want to lecture on the national debt when their beloved president has done more to increase the national debt than all 43 presidents before him combined. For all the tax issues this country has, they pale in comparison to the spending problem we currently face in this country. No single individual would be allowed to be as irresponsible with their fiscal holdings as our government is. Ron Paul has never voted for an unbalanced budget. He has never voted to raise taxes on the middle class. If you want Obama to win re-election in the coming year I suggest sticking to issues other than fiscal responsibility, as Obama has virtually no credibility here.
People that think this way are exposing themselves to ridicule.
That 70+ trillion is what is trying to be passed off right now. That makes it YOUR generation also that is responsible for allowing this travesty to become reality if it happens. So quit placing blame on someone else and do YOUR share to ensure that the banks can't allow that 70+ trillion in deriviates to be passed onto the backs of the taxpayer. Be proactive and demand that both the right and the left wings NOT allow this further raping of the taxpayer, at ALL generations expense.
Your body as compared to another life are at two different ends of the spectrum! Not that I condone it, but you're going to compare smoking pot, to bringing a new life into this world? Come on, really?
These old guys try to rule with fear .. "Danger Will Robertson " hasn't worked in years. That play book was 19 78 . Cheney tried to use it last campaign ...see how successful that was ..The republican congress is furious their incomes from the Iraq service company's will be cut completely !..
Their comments about us leaving Iraq ...what will happen? Who gives a rats a$$ ? I would rather have an increase in social security ...and a decrease in Medicare and more jobs in the USA !
The biggest, most serious domestic threat this nation faces today is the 21st century Republican party.
Tied with the 21st century Democratic party. In one corner, you have warmonger neocons, and in the other corner, you have socialists. I wish Barry Goldwater were still alive today. Ron Paul is the only choice for president this year. If he doesn't win the nomination, I'm going to write him in.
Please I encourage you to write in Ron Paul name. I would even encourage a third party candidate run for Paul.
Me, I love America too much to want a Ron Paul vision of I got mine f the rest of you America.
In Paul's vision I should die if I get ill because I lost my health insurance when I got laid off. I want to live in a country that values its people. Social security was developed to end the suffering of the old here in the United States and the republicans just can't wait to kill social security so the suffering can start again.
When we get to a place where all but the rich are suffering, remember Cain said just blame yourself. I agree vote for a republican and you can just blame yourself for our countries suffering.
You want a country that values its people! Do you think a government can instill "values" into its populous? It was through grassroots that all great social movements occured in this country and throughout the world, not by some government. You say its Ron's vision for you to die? You shortsighted liberal. His vision is the same as yours, a country that values its people! If you think that can come from some government you are sadly mistaken.
Republicans think they can legislate morality. But I'm shortsighted because I think the government should value its people.
After all our recent disasters on the east coast with the hurricanes and people desperately needed the FEMA money to put their roads, bridges and states back together. But Paul would kill FEMA and tell the people good luck and hope the state next to you is not in the same condition and can help some. I don't call this valuing the people.
Why does he want to do this, for more tax cuts for the rich of course.
Americans First,
You seem to believe there is such a thing as to much freedom. Why can't you make decisions and live with the decisions you have made. Instead you want to take from those that have made good decisions and give to those who have made poor decisions. FEMA is the government taking money by force from one person and giving it away to a property owner who had a natural disaster hurt their property. How is that right? Freedom does not make life easy but I will take it over the government running my or my families lives.
No, it's a combination of both parties doing their damndest to strip us of our civil liberties-and moronic statements made by ill-informed people.
Yes, Mothers have the right to kill their children. Fathers don't yet, but should have equal rights to kill their children. It's call parental rights, people trimming their own genetic tree of life, Darwinism at it's core. Thanks MSNBC for pointing out where Ron Paul differs from most Libertarians and is a Republican. Ron Paul simply considers human live to begin at conception, and therefore the child has some rights. Like the most basic of rights, the right to life and not be killed by your Mother or Father.
"people shouldn't tell you what to do with your body," said Paul, who is staunchly anti-abortion rights.
How people can think that it is okay to murder your child is beyond me. Ask any pro-choice activist if it's okay for a mother to murder her two year old child, and they're horrified - but it's perfectly cool if the baby hasn't been born yet.
Yes, it's horrific to kill your own children, but human beings have been doing it forever, for various reasons. Killing children to make it rain, improve crop yield, decrease consumption of limited resources, appease the gods... And today, we can add some new reasons for killing children, don't want to look fat, want to go to college, already have some and would hate to have another, got raped, got drunk, condom broke, and want a new car instead.
But when you think about evolution, Darwinism, it works by killing of the weak, the stupid, the people who take their genes out of the gene pool. Horrific that Mothers think it is ok to kill their children before birth, but no less horrific than giving the Father the right to kill the child on the day after birth. So Fathers can go to college, buy a new car, got drunk, condom broke, buy a new x-box game.
Equal Rights for All!!!!
If you guys agree life is so precious then I would be right to assume you believe in health care for all. If life is so precious then you wouldn't want to deny the precious child a good education would you? What if this precious child parent is on unemployment, would you deny extending the federal unemployment to the mother so the precious child doesn't lose it's home and regular meals.
How abouts a jobs bill to put that precious child's father back to work?
Children are precious and nothing hurts a mother more than to hear her child cry itself to sleep because it is hungry. And then you find out your pregnant. Republicans seem to think it is much better to starve the child to death after it is born. More honorable for you, but what about the suffering of the precious child? Doesn't that mean anything to you?
So if the unborn so precious why are republicans so against health care or education for that precious child once it is born?
For the record, I could never have an abortion. The woman I have known who did it was a heart wrenching decision done for the best of the children already in the family. She had to work and help take care of her family and didn't have the money or time to have another child. I doubt that you wanted her on welfare so she could have another child.
So republicans if you want every pregnancy to end up with a baby then you need to figure out a way to take care of these babies and make a better life for them.
Is there any reason why people find it so illogical that if you don't want or cannot take care of a child you simply keep it zipped or close your legs???? I understand the issues of rape, incest, detrimental to the life of the mother...but in all honesty why should a child die because it's father is a pos for raping it's mother? They have this solution called adoption, don't they? If a condom breaks, that would apply as well. But too often abortion is used as a form of birth control, and too many justify it.
The younger generation has made their choice, and we choose Ron Paul, if you want to show that you really care, you'll support us and do the same, because this place will be ours once you're gone. Don't you think we have more invested in this election than you based on that fact alone? Thank you for trying as hard as you did to build a better country for us, it didn't work out too well, but we'll forgive you if you trust us just this once. I can imagine how angry some of you must have been in the 60's when it felt like no one was listening to you (not washington, not your parents). Here's your chance to make that right by not making the same mistakes the generation before you did, make that flower child thats still in there somewhere smile. We love you all and always will for everything you've done and tried to do, but its time to let go and let us take it from here. You won't be forgotten, we've thought of that too; Ron Paul wants to take care of the elderly (afterall, he's part of your generation). Just listen to his message, because it really makes sense.
I am sorry Nick you have bought a bill of goods. Ron Paul makes no sense. Isn't Paul in the house and didn't he just vote to privatize (kill) medicare? How is that taking care of the elderly?
How do more tax cuts for the rich do anything at all for our country? I have read some of the things that Paul wants to do to our country and all he wants to take away and why would he push these things? Why of course for more tax cuts and less regulations. I can't see how he is any different from any of the rest of the republicans that want to kill America for the rich 1%.
Just because I am older it doesn't make me dumb enough to vote for republican.
I have seen Ron Paul supporter out with the 99% protesters. The only problem is that Ron Paul votes and supports the 1%. Wake up and check his voting record and see how he votes in lock-step with the republicans against the 99%.
Ok, I'll bite.
On a PBS interview on 7/20/2011 Ron Paul stated "We don't have to cut medicare or social security to get our house in order." Your facts are mixed up, rep. Paul Ryans budget bill that would've privatized medicare was voted AGAINST by republican reps Walter Jones, RON PAUL, Denny Rehberg and David McKinley. So you're wrong on that.
Also, he wants to cut taxes to repatriate american dollars that are kept in overseas banks due to the current high tax rate, he also wants to cut the corporate tax so corporations will bring jobs back to the US instead of shipping them overseas to get away from the (brace yourself) high corporate tax rates in America. Oh yeah, and he also wants to get rid of the federal income tax for everyone (not just the rich) as stated on a 12/2/2010 fox news interview with his son, Rand.
Those "things" he wants to get rid of? Those would be five departments that currently do our country more harm than good by nationalizing things like education, the interior, and commerce- things that should be left up to the states. So if getting rid of government waste is a problem for you, then i'm wasting my breath. I tried to be nice and everything.
His voting record has been solid for 22 years, never voted to increase taxes, never voted for an unbalanced budget, never voted to raise congressional pay, never taken a gov paid junket, never voted to increase the power of the executive branch, voted against Iraq, the patriot act, regulating the internet, and will not take a congressional retirement package.
Just because i'm young doesn't mean i'm ill informed. Keep your vote.
Never voted to increase taxes per your own words for 22 years. It just so happens we need to raise taxes and put Americans back to work.
So does Paul vote for America or vote for the rich? I guessing he will vote for the rich just like for 22 years. I have always found it interesting that the path to this magical smaller government is by never raising taxes which just so happens to benefit the rich more than anybody. Just like Cain's 999 plan also benefits the super rich more than anybody else.
So you might as well put me on ignore as you won't be changing my mind unless Ron Paul votes for American jobs and increasing taxes to pay for it.
For the love of America Obama/Biden 2012
Increases in Government wealth and responsiblity, especially on a federal level will only cause more bureucracy, more regulations, more welfare, more taxes, less prosperity, and fewer jobs.
If you want more money from teh 1%, and lets face it, thats what your arguments are about. You just want more of their cash. Then how about working harder, creating more innovative products, providing better services? That my friends, is true economic stimulus and that is what America was founded upon.
The 1% got rich off America. Why shouldn't the rich invest in the American people and get America working again.
Sorry American was not founded on the principle of the rich, for the rich, and nothing for anybody but the rich.
I am pretty sure the constitution talks about the people all of us together, working together. Nothing about the republican ideal that America deserves death by drowning by Norquist for the rich.
Americans First,
As I read down this page I realize you are very misguided. Ron Paul wants you to be free. Freedom is not a safe and tidy life. Do you think people that formed this country trveled here because life would be easier and they could be assured they would be taken care of? Let me answer for you no they did not. Are you too stupid or incompetent to take care of your own body or property? I would assume no, so why is it that you think other Americans are? The only way the government gives anyone anything is by taking it from someone else, and I am positive that our country was not founded on the principle of what is yours is mine.
So Nick--I think most people came here and still come here because of the economic and educational opportunities. We enjoy living here because of our freedoms, the natural beauty, the security, etc.--reasons too numerous to list. We also have responsibilities. If my neighbor chooses to ignore environmental regulations and pollutes the lake near me, how "free" am I to swim in that water with a reasonable expectation of safety or protection of my health? How free am I to pursue my dream of being a doctor if medical school is so ridiculously expensive that I can't afford the tuition, and federal loans are no longer available (as Paul wants to do away with all financial aid provided by the government to students)?
I watched some of Paul's videos, and what I heard wasn't pretty. He basically wants to do away with several governmental departments and totally leave those services up to the "free market". Sounds good, but what happens when the private company, greedy for profits, decides to focus more on making money and less on providing services? Everything with Paul seems all or nothing, black & white--no middle ground. Basically, a "throw the baby out with the bath water" approach. I agree that reforms are needed and spending must be cut. Paul's ways seem too drastic and could actually plunge us into a deeper depression.
As a democrat I have looked at his voting record. He voted againt giving corporations and big banks bailouts (the 1%), he voted againt repealing the Glass-Steagall Act, he voted against the Patriot Act, he voted againt th Iraq War (which again benefits the 1%), he votes against big oil subsidies. He works with Dennis Kucinnich, Barney Frank, and Bernie Sanders on issues such as war, the federal reserve, and civil liberites. Ron Paul is not the typical Rebublican. Americans First-3238795 you are, however, the typical democrat.
When Paul raised his hand and said he would not raise taxes under any circumstances just like the rest of the republicans. How is he different?
Paul and you can use any excuse you want, but if he votes against raising taxes on the richest he is for the 1%. His smaller government fantasy just benefits the richest 1%. You know it too.
Proud to be a Democrat, proud to be a liberal and very, very proud to vote for Obama/Biden 2012
What is your fantasy? A huge monolithic government that takes care of us from cradle to grave while policing the world? Because if it is we are on the right path. Sure we could raise the taxes on the wealth but the war profiteering, the cronyism, the corruption, and the intrusion into our personal lives would continue. It would not fix anything. The problem is the spending and the resulting devaluation of our dollar. Read a book and stop grabbing for the low hanging fruit that makes you feel good to be a liberal.
Ha, ha. If you were the top rich, I am sure you'd be saying the complete opposite. That's the timelessness and uniqueness of Ron Paul. He believes in equality. No matter who you are. I'll take that any time of the day because it's true freedom. Ron Paul 2012!
@Americans First I think you need to understand that there is no reason to raise taxes/revenues. What needs to be done is to CUT THE SPENDING... A good start is to close most of our military bases around the world. Bring the soldiers home, post them on OUR borders and have them spend their paychecks in Texas, Arizona, New Mexicoand California. Not in Germany, Japan, Korea etc. Next we need to cut the social welfare programs and encourage people to work instead of living on Uncle Sam's Plantation. More than half of our society relies on the Plantation for all of their needs. Its NOT the governments job to take care of people. Its up to people to care of each other.
Ron Paul 2012
OK, listen to me. The rich people in this country create jobs! Not the government. Do you want to end up like Greece?! We need to provide the best business climate in the world if you wane business to come here. These people, the "1%" LOVE AMERICA. But they love the real America. The America built on hard work compensated by high pay. True progress through technological and industrial supremacy and innovation, The greatest wealth creating nation the world has EVER seen!
They want to hire Americans! Look at North Dakota, lowest unemployment rate in the country. Why? Because the State allows its men to go after what they want! They drill for domestic energy and guess what? They employ people.
from the USA Today ():
Guess what: North Dakota unemployment rate for September is: 2.7%!!!! Less government= more jobs and greater pay, in other words, true economic growth. One search for "oil" jobs is N Dakota revealed 500 jobs in less than a month.
North Dakota is also hiring inexperienced workers. If you want a job, than go to N Dakota.
If we cut unemployment and welfar people will be forced to move to find jobs that is how it is supposed to be.
Cut the spending is not going to get people back to work.
Its up to the people to take care of each other. I suggest you head over to your neighbors and ask for money for your house loan or a doctor payment and see how much money you get. Better hope you neighbor is not a republican as they cheer the death of others.
Right, sounds delusional, money from your neighbors and doctors take chickens too.
I have been involved in more that one benefit to help someone, but I doubt that will pay the bills for everyone in America who is in need. Instead of health care we could all be out on the streets with our tin cups taking care of each other with begged money.
Natural disaster, Paul wants to kill FEMA, just pass the cup and hope someone has something to put in it.
Seriously this is your answer.
Bringing the troops home, your only sensible thought.
I was just reading about ND and one of the reason it gave for being in such good shape it that the state didn't start giving tax cuts and taking from the people like so many states that are suffering today.
North Dakota is strong with a budget surplus.
I guess your low unemployment proves that tax cuts don't create jobs.
Looks like you have been dependent on the governmwnt most of your life Americans First. I bet you are broke as a joke and have little if any education. I also surmise that you love living on the Plantation as Uncle Sam pays for your food, housing, heating, electricity and your health care. FEMA is a huge waste of money. It just encourages people to live in places where they really shouldn't be living. If a private insurer will not write a policy due to the risk why on Earth should FEMA step in. Any additional increase in spending will be catastrophic. Most of you liberals just don't seem to understand the reality in which we live. Liberals just just think the can go to the fed and start picking more leaves off their money tree to pay down the debt. Just inflate the debt away while ruining the value of the US Dollar.
You haven't a clue about liberals or my living situation or how much money I have in the bank or even how much my home is worth.
You know as well as I do a very large part of our debt was wars and tax cuts we had to borrow money for. Those tax cuts don't seem to have created many jobs have they? We had a stock market and housing crash and many people lost their jobs and homes. We bailed out the stock market and the banks and now the rich are doing better than ever.
We are all just leeches because now we think the rich the only ones doing extra good should help out the rest of us. After all aren't we all Americans? Aren't Americans worth the investment? Once America gets up and running again and more people are employed, the rich will more than make their money back.
Really raising taxes on your second million is too much? Just too much for the country you claim to love?
Ron Paul predicted the crash in the early 2000's. He was right. He is usually right. We need to listen to him before it is too late. Ron Paul voted AGAINST the bail outs. I agree with you that the useless wars are a huge cause of the debt. Its also our vast amount of military bases around the world that causes our debt. Raising taxes is not the answer. Cutting spending is the answer.
I too predicted the crash and moved my 401K money to a cash account and lost nothing. The others in my office lost half because they didn't think I knew what I was talking about. I moved my money about 8 months before the crash. I could see it coming, just didn't know quite when.
Right now the condition of our country and the high unemployment we need to pass several jobs bills and get the people working again.
Due to the bail-outs the rich are doing extrememly well. Now Americans need assistance and the republicans think it is too much to ask to raise taxes on the second million. We need jobs not more cuts. We need unemployment extentions for 14 million families.
I can't agree that millions and millions of people need to suffer so the rich don't have their second million taxed at a higher rate. Raising taxes is the answer. From the polls 74% Americans agree with me and 63% of republicans.
We are only the voting public what do we matter?
Americans first, firstly, unlike you, I provided cited evidence from an accredited paper, you just said something that you hope we take your word for.
ND income tax schedule:
If your income range is between
$0 and $23,550, your tax rate on every dollar of income earned is
2.1%.
If your income range is between $32,551 and
$78,850, your tax rate on every dollar of income earned is
3.92%.
If your income range is between $78,851 and
$16,550, your tax rate on every dollar of income earned is
4.34%.
If your income range is between $16,551 and
$357,700, your tax rate on every dollar of income earned is
5.04%.
If your income range is $357,701 and over, your
tax rate on every dollar of income earned is 5.54%.
This rate is quite low.
So, basically, these people do not take much pride in being on welfare. go figure... No one should be proud to be on welfare... But for some people it is an acceptable way of life and is revered within communities.
Real welfare comes from the community, not the government.
The Government is incapable of creating jobs. The government shouldn't even be in the conversation when it comes to jobs. Job creation needs to come from the private sector. I hope you are kidding about passing a "JOBS" bill. The US governement can't get out of its own way.
Extending unemployment benefits is not a good idea. There are jobs out there going unfilled because most Americans are too proud to take those jobs or make more money on unemployment. People need to suck it up and take what they can get. It might be working as a greeter at Wal-Mart or flipping burgers at McDonald's or even working both of those jobs, but sometimes that is what needs to be done.
i guess leaving abortion up to the states is "staunchly" anti-abortion. Whenever I read stuff like that I wonder whether the writer did any research at all (probably not) or whether he or she truly belives that states rights is just some bizarre idea in the constitution that no longer applies. In the latter scenario, I think states rights is actually far more sane than expecting that a great majority of the population will ever agree on social issues. The 10th Amendment is the compromise that allowed a variagated nation to form a union. It seems ridiculous to me that, as a country, we keep arguing over the same eternally divisive topics (abortion, gay rights, drug laws) during every election cycle. This has the effect of distracting the population from failed wars and and disasterous economic policy; the two issues that will ultimately lead us all to ruin.
ron paul is "fear" personified... he's been spreading fear since texas was acquired from mexico...
Are you kidding me?! Ron Paul is the only one telling us we need not fear Iran and constant threats from terrorism. He doesn't continually beat the war drums. What are you talking about?!
I guess preaching peace and the "golden rule" is now considered "fear mongering" by the lefties.
Love Dr. Paul! I am pro-life but I see his point. He's all about Constitution and if you view abortion in that light, it makes sense. All you anti-abortion people will NEVER repeal it. It's a multi-billion business and too lucrative to ever get rid off. Plus, it's a moral issue and until you get everyone to see it your way, even if it's illegal, it will go on. What Dr. Paul is suggesting is to do away with Roe vs. Wade (unconstitutional) and leave it to the states. That's where and when people can make a huge impact with their vote.
As for 1%... I see it differently. As much as I love and respect Ron Paul, I believe elections are predetermined in the sense that no matter who you vote for, you will get someone who will do what the 1% wants. They will never let him win. It will take a real miracle because we do not live in real democracy. I hope the miracle happens but I am afraid it will not. He's the only one who will change the path of this country in the right direction and powers that be do not want it. For that kind of change you need a real revolution and I don't see it coming. Americans are too passive and ignorant. Freedom? Rights? No war? No Fed? Oh no... I better go watch Dancing with the Stars.
I sent in my registration yesterday. I registered Republican first time in my life and will vote Ron Paul in the primaries. I am donating what I can to his campaign. I try to influence my friends. I pray for a miracle and hope for one. He's got a lot of support and I love seeing how many people are starting to see the truth... I hope it matters in the end.
Whether its Rep or Dem total government is total government.Leave the paridigm at the door and check out Ron Paul. What makes him any different? He can't be bought.Hes a man of honesty and integrity that has said the same thing for 30 yrs.
Don't kid yourself, when the dollar fails its going to turn into a police state. The time for big plans is now,not when we're worse than Greece. It hurts nothing to take a closer look at what Dr Paul stands for.
Paul stands for the 1% and no new taxes ever. No jobs, no bridge or road repairs,no school repairs, no teachers, firefighters and policemen. Nothing for America only for the rich.
I wonder why I am not impressed.
Did you know that if we elimitated the personal income tax the federal government would still have revene levels comparable to the late 1990s. The reason we have the concentration of wealth in the 1 percent is due from cronyism and the destruction of our dollar, not taxes or capitialism. Do you think inflation is an evitable rise in the price of goods?
Extremist, unfounded rhetoric. None of it true.
Dear Death,
Being the money is in the hands of the 1% why not tax them and put Americans back to work?
People use to be patriotic, but now that all the money is in the hands of the 1%, there is no money for the people and way way too much to ask for a very small extra tax on the money over a million dollars.
I guess if you are a republican and have signed a pledge with Norquist to kill America, one thin dime is too much.
lol...America First; You speak so flippantly about "taxing the rich" as if you have some sort of right to do so. Are they not human? Do they not also have rights?
We have an obligation to treat them respectfully. We dont just get to tax them (steal from them) because we feel like it. If there is a war-which the income tax was originally intended for- then that is another story and most rich would happily cough up money to protect their home.
But just because you're uncomfortable doesnt give you the right to just take what you want.

Did you listen to Ron Paul's speech?
Here's the link:
Well... no kidding. He's been fearing the destruction of liberty since he was the candidate carrying the banner for the Libertarian Party all those years ago.
That's because the destruction of liberty continues today. Like the abusive gauntlet of terror at the airport that everyone must submit to before being allowed to fly. Statistically, the risk of dying due to a terrorist act on an aircraft is much, much less than dying due to an aircraft accident with or without the gauntlet of terror that the TSA has become. Statistically, mile per mile, dying in a car accident is much, much more likely than dying in an aircraft accident. So, people who chose to drive instead of running the TSA's gauntlet of terror are dying on the road instead of living in the air. Statistically, the TSA is killing many more Americans on our roads than they will ever save in the air.
Think about that one, while you stand in a thousand person queue, all packed together like cattle, waiting to run the TSA's gauntlet of terror. Hoping, no praying, that the terrorist never figure out that there are ten times as many people waiting to run the TSA's gauntlet of terror than will ever fit on an aircraft.
And our liberty has done JUST FINE since 1971, hasn't it?? Let's see, No-Knock searches, murders of innocent Americans in their homes... How about First Amendment-Freedom to speak as you please-EXCEPT at work, EXCEPT at presidential appearances. Freedom of Religion-EXCEPT if your religion is considered a "cult". then they burn your children alive. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL-except that "some are more equal than others"--Right out of Orwell's "Animal Farm". Right to be Secure in our homes-EXCEPT that They can come in and "sneak and peek". Right to our property-EXCEPT that They can take it with no criminal charges--Apart from that, our Liberty is doing just fine.
The day true freedom and liberty dies people like IRESPOND-2315268 and Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL will be giving standing ovations..
GOD BLESS RON PAUL! Our last hope
Some people don't realize government spending is the yoke of slavery.
Speak the truth Ron Paul!
Even though there are some Ron Paul haters on here, I am glad to see that all of them are misinformed. Every single person who has a negative viewpoint of Ron Paul is due to some fallacy they have somehow arrived at regarding him.
The most popular one seems to be that he wants government to be completely abolished and let anarchy reign. None of these people have taken the time to understand Ron Paul's message and they probably never will.
Some people prefer disillusioned ignorance over the reality of our crushing debt. "If only we could spend more, everything would be OK!". Well, one day, and this day is coming soon at this rate, the US dollar will cease to be the reserve currency of the world. Inflation will skyrocket, interests rates will fly through the roof, and the middle and poor classes of America will be saddled with the heavy debt.
Call it fearmongering if you want, but it is fearmongering backed by evidence (look at the steady rise of the Yuan against the US dollar). Just because it is a scary premonition doesn't mean it is automatically some political tool to garner support. What if he is actually right? Have you ever stopped to consider this and independently researched the issue to make your own call before dismissing it as political propaganda? My guess is no because if you did, you would almost surely be a Ron Paul supporter, the only man with a real plan and the stones to implement substantial cuts to fix our debt crisis.
Ron Paul 2012
Please vote for Ron Paul in your Republican Primary or Caucus.
Im voting for Ron Paul
I am amazed how bipolar our Voting Americans have become. You serve the elite well. For those saying the Republicans have destroyed this country - You Are Right! For those saying the Democrats have destroyed this country - You Are Right!
The fact of the matter is that building safety nets under the lazy (not poor) creates a weak country and perpetuates the desire for individuals to ask for more. More HUD money, more food stamps, more unemployment insurance, etc, etc, etc. Lowering taxes for the rich only speeds up the divide between the rich and the poor at a faster rate. We have had a tax system where you pay more taxes as you make more money. As long as that top bracket stays under 40%, the tax structure does not affect job creation. Anyone telling you it does is just plain greedy. How do I know? Because if that wasn't the case then how is it, with the current tax structure, are the rich still getting richer. Because they make more than enough.
Why won't our politicians pass a balance budget act and tie it to a certain percentage of the GDP? Why won't our politicians pass congressional term limits just like they did for the Presidency? Why won't the politicians get rid of tax loophole for the large Corporations? Why won't the politicians pass campaign reform? Simple, because those things would destroy the greed driven machine they have built over the last 30 years. Plain and simple.
So let's stop slamming the other guys politician and start asking these questions of the politician you have chosen. I for one do follow who are the greatest contributors of a politician because that tells me who they plan on serving. It's not that hard to understand, whomever contributes the most will want something in return!
Good luck to all of you because at the end of the day, we are on a ride that will not end pretty for your children or mine.
How do the rich get richer? It's called the Federal Reserve. It has little to do with taxes. You could tax the rich at 90% and it still wouldn't be enough to pay for our government spending. The Fed prints and prints and prints and the money goes to the special interests/big banks/foreign governments etc and not to the middle or poor class. That is where the disparity comes from. The bigger the government is (ie: more spending), the more corporations are going to line up for their share. The only way to stifle this is to shrink the size of government and focus on sound money (not based on credit).
Wake up, taxing the rich is a fool's security blanket.
Let's just see what some Ron Paul liberty looks like.
He voted to kill health care
He voted against FDA food safety
He voted against funding our government
He voted to stop funding National Public Radio
He voted against health insurance for children
He voted against Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
With all his hoo-haw about wanting to get out of the wars. First he didn't vote (HR2956) to begin reducing troops. Then he voted (HR1591) against the Democrats trying to set benchmarks and time tables to end Iraq war.
He voted against the repeal of tax cuts to oil companies.
He voted against raising the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25.
Every time the bush tax cuts came up he voted for them.
I am not impressed.
Oh no! He voted against things that Constitutionally belong to the States. He voted for tax cuts and not tax increases. Isn't he terrible.
