Poll: Cain leads Romney by 10 in Iowa; Perry in fifth

Herman Cain leads the GOP field in Iowa by double digits, according to a University of Iowa poll out today.

Cain gets 37% of likely caucus attendees, 10 points ahead of Mitt Romney, who is at 27%.

Ron Paul is third with 12%, followed by Newt Gingrich 8%.

Rick Perry is all the way down to fifth with just 6% with Michele Bachmann behind him at 4%. Rick Santorum, for all the time he's spent campaigning there, is at 3%.

For all the talk of Republicans' dissatisfaction with the field, 86% say they're somewhat or very satisfied with it.

In yet another poll, Iowans prefered Ruttebegas and Turnips over Michelle Bawkmann, and Ruttebegas only over Rick Perry (and his wife, of course).

Say, I was just back at the 'Michelle Tweets' threads, and man- are there some righties that have their grundies in a knot today!

My God- you'd think there had been some really good, positive news about Obama's doings these last few days, or something!

Gonna be a great weekend. I say we ditch all the malcontents, and head on over to the (not so secret) watering hole!

Republicans picking on a First Lady who shines a light on military veterans and their families, Republicans criticizing the ouster of middle east dicators and the killing of terrorists - nothing like having a Democrat in Office for Republicans to show the "depth" of their convictions.

Cain and Paul have far better success in this Iowa poll than one would imagine after watching the latest debate.

    Romney is steady.

Perry has far less success in this Iowa poll than one would imagine having garnered such a disproportionally huge amount of TV exposure time in the latest debate.

The Iowa poll may show Bachmann slowing her skid, probably due to being so much more out front in the latest debate. Can she start moving upwards? She'll need a lot of steam.

Meanwhile, Obama continues to run against himself.

Now and in the coming months I fully expect this site (and others) to be saturated by Romney staffers pretending to be anything but.

In the last debate Bushney criticized the enablers of illegal immigration (businesses that hire them). Of course he could not be honest and admit that he did exactly that. The richman's ruse that "I hired a contractor and they employed the illegals" is the BS they hide behind knowing full well what is taking place.

Romney is a backstabber concerned only with his own ego and wealth. Only a fool would believe otherwise. If it weren't for the establishment media trying to force him down our throats, he'd be down by much more than 10 points.

Any middle class or poor person that votes for Herman Cain - is committing ecomonic, political and social suicide.

Obama should have given the Republicans fewer concessions.

However, when Obama is compared to Cain - Obama is truly a towering moral figure.

Cain's ecomonic policies - would throw more dollars at the wealthy. This candidate would increase the disparity in wealth that exists in this country. He would yank out our social safety nets such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid - and he would eliminate the minimum wage - in poor communities.

      Cain is a pastor.

However, I have read many parts of the bible - and I am left wondering what bible is Cain reading?

It is difficult to image that Christ would deprive the middle class and the poor of the means to sustainably financially support themselves.

Cain also appears to be rather uncomfortable with being an African American.

He does not overtly want to be associated with people of color.

Pitifully, he gives the appearance of being a shuffling, tap-dancing, singing Bill Bojangles.

Cain would set America back 50 years.

      ...this country has gone insane.

you know i like the good ole days of the republican party and teaparty no new taxes ,,,oh grover norquist and the club for growth knocking down even closing loopholes....now cain and romney new flat tax will raise my taxes 5000 plus a year nice a regressive tax that targets the lowest 84 % and gives tax breaks to the wealthy....when grover said no new taxes i guess he just meant the for the rich and obviously the teaparty may have a thing to say about a plan that transferrs wealth to the rich...and will kill the low and middle class... if they can figure out the math of 9% increase on everything they buy...tax increase gop canidates tax decrease with obama wanting middle class and small business taxes lowered wow times they are a changing

          #1.17 - Fri Oct 21, 2011 8:18 PM EDT

While I am willing to listen to a flat tax proposal, I will never support one that includes a sales tax. This week Herman Cain brought the 9-0-9 tax. Of course you have to qualify which means creating a gray area that can be manipulated using tax loopholes (this is what it is). The problem is that it leaves the ugliest tax, the sales tax. Add the 9% sales tax to most local sales taxes of 8% and you now will be paying 17% any time you step out of the house. But don't worry, more loopholes will be created for that one as well. Unfortunately for most of us, our lobbyist are not as strong as those of people with money. Last, what no-one is telling you is that within 24 months you will be looking at a 15-15-15 tax because the rich will be paying less and there will not be enough money to pay for the current government spending. How do I know this? Because today we pay 15% for capital gains and Mr. Cain is going to exclude it from taxes. Also, for those who make a living off the stock market, he's already agreed to lower their 9% to 6%. Someone has to pay! More National Debt. Wonderful!

Gosh, really? EVERYONE where you work? That must be lots of people....

Of the Republicans polled, about 4 in 10 (40%) say they’re less inclined to vote for someone who has never been elected to public office. (Cain) That’s far more than say they are disinclined to vote for a Mormon, a woman or a black candidate.

The Associated Press-GfK Poll was conducted Oct. 13-17, by GfK Roper Public Affairs and Corporate Communications. It involved landline and cellphone interviews with 1,000 adults nationwide and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The poll included interviews with Republicans and Republican-leaning independents; the margin of error for these results was plus or minus 6.1 percentage points.

This tracks with the POST-DEBATE Rasmussen poll taken in Iowa on Wednesday where 800 likely GOP voters were asked their preferences -

                    CAIN - 28%

                    Romney - 21%

                    Perry - 7%

The bickering between Romney and Perry Tuesday night hurt them both - and Herman's "Cain Train" sped on by to take the lead!

                    I think I can, I think I can, I think I can........

Whoops! Cain Train wreck about to pull into the station.......Get off the tracks! It's time for "The Cain Scrutiny", which, with Perry's money and some common sense will be "The Cain Mutiny".

Cain's meteoric rise has sparked new scrutiny of his campaign ideas such as his 999 Plan, a proposal that would replace the current complicated income tax system.

"The 999 is catching on," Cain said.

On Sunday, Cain conceded that his signature 999 tax plan would raise taxes for some middle class Americans.

Despite recent missteps, his latest fundraising news is good. Perry is the top GOP fundraiser, raking in $17 million -- $3 million more than Romney.

Oh my! This is going to be a very interesting 2011-2012 election. We actually might get a primary in Wisconsin after all.

                      Jeffrey,

Better to drive over to Iowa on caucus night and stand in Cain's corner. Or, better yet, Bachmann's or Huntsman's. Really drive those GOP wingnuts crazy!! LOL.

When we do get to vote in Wisconsin's primary, remember, it's an open primary so you can vote Republican for one day and REALLY mess things up for the GOP. LOL.

Who cares, he's never going to beat Obama. As a matter of fact none of them will beat Obama.

                        Obama (4 more years)

Spanky once again your math fails of registered members of the party that boos active duty soldiers 4 % approx attend the caucuses. drawing a conclusion from that can only be done by a rightwing nut.

As for Cain he has become more an idiot than Perry. Hois stand on abortion is funny although the subject is serious. His willingness/ unwillingness ( choose either) to trade with terrorists for the life of an American soldier is dizzying. His new 909 plan will most assuredly not be appreciated even by fake wealthy morons that have so much time to post on here.

Polls are fascinating, but it all depends on WHO SHOWS UP.

I am not satisfied with the field. None stand out and really tell us how they will attack the joblessness in America. All we hear is I can do such and such, we need to undo the laws to protect the consumer or investors. We want to release the dogs onto the economy to screw over the atmosphere and pollute the waterways.

Cain's popularity has nothing to do with his political policy. Everyone knows 9-9-9 is only to attract attention. Folks like him because he is charming and personable. Check out the interesting one work response to the candidates. Cain elicits: Friendly, human etc. Greatest response to Romney was Mormon, followed by boring, etc. Cowboy Ricky response - TEXAN. Too bad Texan has become a pejorative! There are really some nice folks living here.

Go ahead, Republicans.....vote for a nitwit like Herman Cain. You've got quite the weird menagerie of candidates anyway. Is it surprising that a Party in love with the rhetoric of excess, distortion, fear and fictional history can't come up with candidates who act like civil adults, think like statesmen and approach the nations problems with workable solutions? The GOP has become a zoo for crackpots, bigots and whining spoiled brats. Yuck!

                              NWScot,

Put down the kool aid, it's affecting your ability to think. We Republicans will vote for anyone BUT Obama. The reason being...... 9.1% unemployment and $15 trillion debt.

Stop believing everything you are fed on Msnbc. Things like....." Mitt was 'angry'. " ( because he touched Perry on the shoulder)

No one is buying that , except the lemmings here who are lead around by the nose. I'll tell you what angry is.......

Angry is when Obama said to John McCain during the healthcare debacle, "John, the election is over. I WON." How dare Obama speak like that to a senior Senator, a POW/Patriot, and a very well respected man on both sides of the aisle ?? Obama has no respect for others when he doesn't get his way. Meanwhile, he goes around the country saying " let's bring back civilty."

                              HYPOCRITE.

McCain should have stepped down years ago along with the other Senators involved in the Savings and Loan Banking Scandal, ever heard of Keating 5. S&L Scandal cost the taxpayers 125 billion. Not as much as the Neil Bush Saving & Loan Scandal that cost the taxpayer over a trillion dollars. Both men on the board of these banks approving loans and costing the taxpayers dollar$$$$$

Cain has how many good years treated for stage 1V colon cancer and metastasis{which is the spread of cancer to his liver} most deadly kind of cancer is the spread of cancer. This in 2006, running in 2012. Maybe to split the African American Voters????

Leona, at least MSNBC deals in facts unlike Faux News, Rush (druggie) Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Glen Beck and the other crazies you apparntly follow religiously.  We were hemoraging jobs at the end of your guru President George Bush, or did you forget. Also, he got us into Iraq where billions were spent unnecessarily, not to mention the precious lives that were lost (I hope you and your kind can sleep at night - but, I forgot, you idiots do not have a conscience as your kind applauded the fact that Gov. Pery has no qualms executing innocent people in Tesas.  It is idiots like you who give America a bad name.

American taxpayers Don't need another arrogant delusional Texas Governor like Bush who let 1800 American taxpayers die and suffer intolerable conditions in Katrina, while patting the head of FEMA on the back "Brownie you are doing a heckuva job." Clueless!!! Explain that one.
