First lady sends her first tweet

First lady Michelle Obama, whose staff has been harnessing the power of the internet and "tweetups" to promote exercise and support the armed forces, harnessed a little of the internet herself for the first time Wednesday.

According to the White House Blog, right before attending the opening game in this season's World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, the first lady dispatched a tweet for the the first time tweeting from @JoiningForces:

"Military families serve our nation too. Let's all show our appreciation by #JoiningForces with them. Get involved: JoiningForces.gov- mo"

Mrs. Obama and Dr. Jill Biden attended the World Series in St. Louis to help dedicate the game to veterans and military spouses. This followed an event at Joint Base Langley-Eustis on Wednesday, where the first lady joined with President Obama to announce a private company initiative to employ 25,000 veterans and their spouses by 2013.

The White House posted a video of the first lady's first tweet.

Right before Game One of the 2011 World Series in St. Louis, MO, First Lady Michelle Obama posts her first tweet from an official White House account. Watch the behind-the-scenes video and follow Joining Forces on Twitter: http://twitter.com/joiningforces

Sorry. I like the First Lady and all. But this is news - even at the level of inside-baseball political blog - why?

I laughed so hard when I read the headline, I had to gather myself before I could post...

I'm with you Paul M...this is news?

Instead, this is a microcosmic example of what is wrong with the news media in this country. A ridiculous emphasis on the minor, while the major issues of the day (generally) get misreported or glossed over...

Amy, you said it on the button.

And it is truly stunning how much the First Lady and Dr. Biden are doing for veterans and their families with their Joining Forces program. The latest from two days ago:

"....while visiting Joint Base Langley-Eustis with President Obama on Day
Three of the American Jobs Act bus tour, First Lady Michelle Obama announced
that the American Logistics Association (ALA) and their 270 affiliate companies
have committed to hiring 25,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of
2013.

This commitment is part of the First Lady's and Dr. Jill Biden's Joining
Forces initiative to support veterans and military families. The ALA's
commitment will fulfill a quarter of the President's challenge to the private
sector to hire or train 100,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of
2013. The announcement comes as the President and First Lady visit Joint Base
LThe ALA's commitment to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013 will further promote the goal of Joining Forces to create greater connections between the American public and those inspirational men and women who have served and sacrificed so greatly for this country.angley-Eustis to discuss the critical importance of hiring America's veterans...

The ALA's commitment to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of

I'm with Paul- why run this, when we all want to see more on the obstructionists that just kept 400,000 folks out of work.

I'm serious. You'd think Hannity was in charge, or something: "if I ignore it, it won't be there".

Holy Hell Drive By - I just read your excellent post from earlier about the debt service on the Trillion s we owe.

You, talking about debt service makes my so proud.

My question for you then is - once you, as a died in the wool Democrat start thinking about debt service, debt and deficits, can you still be in on Team Blue?

Will they let you in the tree house with that filthy mouth?

Why by the end of 2013? That is over 2 years from now. Also, 25,000 is just a small drop in the bucket or maybe just sound bites for election?

Drive By - go call Nelson, Tester and the gang.

They just don't seem to be all that into Obama's plan.

Wait - maybe they like crime, murder and rape. After all Sheriff Joe says crime is going to go up.

Too bad he has checked the crime rate declines lately.

More money for teachers - "for the children!"

More money for cops - "or you'll get raped!"

What's next: more money for firefighters - or you'll get burned!"

Of course they should talk to the guy that didn't pay the extra, extra tax tot he fire department so although they did respond, they refused to put the fire out.

Team Blue. It's all good.

Hey Drive By- Jody says hire 60,000 teachers and all those other 400,000 unemployed people will miraculously become employed.

The $35 billion that failed last night would have covered that at $500 Million a teacher.

Why didn't they push it through that way?

400,000? What you only care about the government workers Drive By?

What about the other 14 million?

But it's all good. Jody has solve the whole thing. We just need to hire 2.3 million teacher, cause she assures us that will cause hiring at 6:1.

Jody is brilliant! But, I do wonder why Obama hasn't thought of this brilliant plan.

Brive By, why do Obama, and Reid only seem to care about government workers?

And why don't those 8 dems in the senate care about any?

Mean old dems.

WCA - looks like the DOE is starting to get heat for Fisker.

What on god's green earth is up with the "but, but, we would have spent all that cash you gave us here, but we couldn't find a factory that could build our cars" defense?

Just how do the fellas over at Tesla do it - magic?

First Obama can and killed the solar panel industry, not he's going to wreck hybrid cars.

Are Fiskers cars plug in or Hybrid?

  • 5 votes
#2.3 - Fri Oct 21, 2011 11:17 AM EDT

Spanky,

Fisker technology is the similiar to Chevy Volt, Plug-In.

Problem is two-fold.

Manufacturing - It's a $100,000 car built on an aluminum spaceframe with panels that come off of questionable tooling. So the vehicle has to be hand built. Valmet Assembly in Finland currently builds Porsches so they fit the bill. Fisker has said that they won't hire laid off UAW workers in Delaware to build the Nina. Concerns about work ethic and a desire for a non-union plant.

Problem with that is Henrik Fisker knew at least a year before he got the DOE loan that he was going to build the car in Finland.

They have also claimed that the Nina will be built in Delaware. Problem is the nina works off the same failed technology as the Karma.

Technology - No matter how much money you throw at it, you can't buy technology that doesn't exist. The Karma has 3 batteries and multiple inverters to support the turbo charged engine. These cause a whole lot of heat with no way to dissipate it. The result is melting plastic parts (Wire harnesses, washer bottles, etc) in the engine box.

This is why they have only built 40 vehicles to date. They can't keep the cars running and they know it. Most of those 40 cars are in SoCal while they try to figure out how to make them work.

Amy the only who should be ashamed is you. I see only republican first ladies, how about Hillary, what did she do? All 3 first ladies and Hillary do quite a bit for the american people that goes under the media eyes, they don't try to have everything done in prime time so they can say Look at what I am doing? Aren't I great? Who was first at Ft Hood after that incident, not Michelle or the President but it was Laura and President Bush who met with the victims without notifying the media.

The only reason she is involved with the veterans is for votes plain and simple. Wounded Warrior project took off and that is when she decided to do something that looks good. Her project on hiring veterans involves plenty of benefits for the hiring employer and 25,000 is a good start, of course her husband needs to be reelected otherwise that program will no longer be around.

The media is trying to capitalize on her "high ratings" by putting her in the spotlight. They mistakenly believe that her "popularity" will help get her husband's dismal approval ratings out of the gutter. It's going to take a lot more than Michelle "I am proud of my country for the first time" Obama to do that. It's going to take a miracle.

That's what I ask myself everyday. Obama has done nothing to "bring people together" (which he promised to do, BTW). He is the most partisan President we've ever had. Remember when Obama said...." The election is over, John (McCain), I WON." Well, we found out just how much he meant that.

As far as Michelle "I have never before been proud of my country" Obama, the facts speak for themselves. She had a $40,000 bracelet on and the press mentioned it. The Obama spin machine didn't like that so they had her go to Target the next day for a photo op. Can anyone say HYPOCRITE?

          Amy,

Isn't it more likely that "mean girls" would be wearing $40,000 bracelets? lol

I am a middle class tax payer. I don't know anyone who wears a $40,000 bracelet ( period )and then goes to Target the next day for a photo op, lol. Don't let us stop you from worshiping the Obama's . That's your right, even if the facts are NOT on your side.

I think it's so funny Republicans claim Democrats are waging class war on the rich, then they disparage the First Lady her upper class lifestyle. Gosh, which is it? It's her money she can spend it as she wants, or Michelle is Marie Antoinette?

          Hey Amy,

Of course you are missing the point! Michelle either wears $40,000 bracelets OR she shops at TARGET!

Which is it?????? You know that only ONE of those scenarios is true. Who are you kidding?

          Amy,

The $40,000 bracelet is real. The photo op at Target the next day is a charade, to make Michelle look like "average folks." You don't have to admit it but you know it's true.

          HYPOCRISY.

I am a disabled veteran with psych and physical ailments from my military accomplishments between 1990-1993. I don'tpromote or DEMOTE political campaigners but I can tell you I was on 7 psych medications and chose to stop taking them over a year ago. I have a service dog (MARLEY) she helps with my anxiety levels but without me using “Black-market” marijuana its harder for me to control, without marijuana the ARTHRITIS in my back would be more painful. I have a young friend of mine who is diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) he too benefits from the effects. I say to you the readers KNOW-THE-FACTS…..If it’s legalized it too would stimulate the economy by shutting down unneeded prisons and government spending on prison guards , low-level law officials and programs like” NARK” and “DARE” that eat at local community budgets(This would put the MONEY back where it came from Social Security, Healthcare and WEL-FARE). These are local programs formed by the government under the “war on Drugs” with money bribes to your local politicians. why do you think we all want to know now “WHERE DID THE MONEY GO ?”How about the $$Billions The IRS pays out to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS under the ACTC (addition child Tax Credit) , ITINs (Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) have become increasingly linked to fraudulent tax claims which is said to be over $$ 4 Billion a year. It’s hard for me to believe the Agency LACKS the legal authority to challenge such tax returns! The budgets are done every year the money is hidden in programs!!!Have we forgotten we gave IRAQ “GRANTS” to rebuild not LOANS ? How about the tsunami $$ to Japan to rebuild or to Indonesia to rebuild OR HAITI after their earthquake to rebuild ? I have an IDEA use US tax dollars to help the US TAX PAYER……….The sad part is we the people didn’t vote for that congress did for us. when we have a crisis we don’t have the money . Not to mention the new STATE “regulation” on pain medication means I now have to drive to my doctors once a month instead of once-every 3. The raise they are considering for SSDI is a joke compared the the gas$ increases over the past 3yrs. WE keep writing laws that keep LOW-income, LOW-income. wall-street has the gas market cornered their job is to make their investors money, it’s congress that’s spending our money and draining the purse not WALL street. Try sleeping at night knowing the country i was injured protecting is the same country I’m now fighting to legalize an” alleviation” from my symptoms.”Follow ME I’m The Infantry" !!

james hale: "wall-street has the gas market cornered....."

That's NOT Wall Street driving up the gas prices. Obama is trying to destroy the oil industry and with it millions of jobs.

Obama is pushing "green energy" and pouring billions into that money pit. Can you guess who is getting rich from "green?"

Answer: N.Pelosi's brother-in-law and Al Gore.
