Obama agenda: First lady joins the bus tour

“President Barack Obama is employing the services of the first lady on the final leg of his three-day bus tour as they tout proposals in the president's jobs bill that the White House says would put more of the nation's unemployed veterans back to work,” the  AP writes. “During a joint appearance Wednesday before airmen and soldiers at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, the president and his wife, Michelle, also were to announce a deal with the private sector to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses. The White House said the American Logistics Association, which includes major companies like Tyson Foods Inc. and Coca-Cola Co., is aiming to meet that goal by the end of 2013.”

The Richmond Times-Dispatch: “Winding into Virginia on the second day of his bus tour, President Barack Obama on Tuesday pitched his jobs plan — and the cash it could direct to teachers, police and firefighters — and criticized Republican efforts to block the package. He'll switch subjects this morning in Hampton to focus on hiring veterans, before motoring into the Richmond area, where he will visit a Chesterfield County fire station in House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's district. By 8:30 a.m., a crowd of several hundred members of the military had gathered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton to see the president.”

“After the feds announced Tuesday they deported an all-time high number of people last fiscal year - 396,906 - a White House official went on the defensive at a local confab to court Latino voters,” the New York Daily News reports. "It's not fun to enforce immigration laws," Felicia Escobar, a senior policy adviser on President Obama's domestic policy council, said at New York's Hispanic Community Action Summit. She added, "We all think that the laws should be changed, and the system is broken.”

Wow, It is imperative that America support this President for the remainder of this fiscal crisis. The Republican Party is showing us a terrorist motive in the Republican Party " just say no" policy. The issue is that they are holding America hostage. The top 1% of Americans controll 40% of the American pie. This translates into over 3 Trillion Dollars of Corporate wealth, simply laying in their individual corporate bank accounts. They are not using the money to expand growth, buy new businesses, or reinforce the stock market. They have opted-out of helping America regain its stability, forcing America to borrow money from China, Japan etc. This is terrorism. We need the tax incentives the Obama Administration proposes to put the money in circulation. We need the jobs bill the Obama Administration proposes the recirculate the money.

Tax payers are paying for his bus "to be re-elected" tour. Why is this ok. We should keep track of the tax money spent, then give the Republican canidate the same amount. That sounds fair.

The Republican candidates had air time on a national televison network last night. They are vying against each other for their party's nomination. They spend most of their time talking about the President.

We should keep track of the money spent on their "debates" and balance it with money for the Democratic campaign.

    Fair is fair.

No..........give Obama an invoice for the expenses that says "Due upon receipt".

This country should not have to pay for him to be continuously campaigning and that is ALL his so called jobs bill is. Temporary jobs/stimulous package to buy votes and to keep the Unions happy and everyone knows it!

What a hoot. The President hops a tour bus and goes town to town throughout the country, visiting towns hit hard by economic inequality, unemployment and politics...the GOP candidates go to straw poll events where they have sent tickets in advance to the people they want to attend.

One is asking America what it needs and asking America to help him make it happen, the others are vying for the next laugh over misfortune.

I'll take the President's campaign for America any time.

Angry - how about we bill employers for the cost of environmental cleanup and the cost to the taxpayers for uninsured and underpaid employees that rely on the government safety net. That would be billions in comparison to a trek across the country to see what is really happening in the country....and at least it's far more cost-effective than Bush's AF1 fundraising campaigns on behalf of minor GOP candidates.

Is not the "silence" thats deafening, except for the silence of the vaccum between your ears. You simply cannot hear anything reasonable at a normal decibel level. A "white Republican?" What if he were a black Republican? And did you just happen to dream up this crap now, like it never occurred to you during W's 1st term as he campaign for re-election? How 'bout Reagan's campaigning for re-election? Hell, you don't even bitch about Clinton. So is it only if the candidate is White AND Republican that he draws a bye?

You first heard the bus was Canadian from John "straight talk" McCain. First, only the shell was built in Canadian and then mounted on an American chassis and with an All American interior. Funny thing is, all of the above is also true re: McCain's very own "straight talk express" bus in '08. The armored shell was a Secret Service security decision. The shell was purchased in Canada because one with similar security specs is not available in the US. And, as you've no doubt heard, an exact duplicate will be supplied at no charge to the Republican nominee.

Obama's "campaign tour" should include debates with Republicans ( especially since we're paying for it.

Can you just imagine what Obama vs.Cain would sound like?

Obama: "...bla bla....on the backs of the poor"...."bla bla.... millionaires and billionaires..." " bla bla....corporate jets"... "bla bla.......their fair share"

Cain: "If the poor work hard , they too can achieve. That's the American Dream we love and are fighting for right now. My personal story can only happen here. Let's get govt. out of the way so the private sector can create jobs"

      Reply#5 - Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:31 AM EDT

Cain's would be "We will tax everyone who is struggling for just 9-9-9 and draw a line around poor neighborhoods where we will tag everyone who is low income and for 3-3-3 we will PROVE that people who are low income deserve my insults. And then, when I have them all by the throat we will change it up and ELIMINATE taxes on corporations and individuals and convert to a sales tax that will starve out the poor. Those who try to escape will be caught on electric fences as they try to cross the border."

Looks like Obama is pocketing all his campaign money and vacationing and campaigning at the taxpayers expense. I'm sure this is ethically wrong if not down right illegal. But then we are talking about the biggest liar and fraud, so nothing should come as a surprise.

Now Michelle will probably be redecorating the buses. These two are such a joke.

From the comments preceding this one, I conclude that the lines have been drawn, and people have stopped really examining the issues, choosing instead to call Michelle Obama a mooch, mentioning the word, "white," to re-emphasize the color issue and, as usual, pointing out money, money, money, without any concept of what the worship of it has done to this world. Sad . . . and very shallow.

Obama's "jobs bill" is a bandaid approach to unemployment that does little to fix the underlying problem. It taxes and spends, with little new hiring - 25,000 vets is a drop in the bucket with 9.1% national unemployment and 16% underemployment. Most of the jobs the bill "creates" are already existing public sector jobs - dependent on perpetual gov't spending. The only good news in the bill is the currently employed get a small FICA tax break.

Unfortunately for Mr. Obama, the long-term fixes for unemployment are a pro-small and medium business (that employs 70% of Americans) and pro-growth approaches - which are contrary to his collectivist/populist beliefs.

By putting more of the tax burden on a smaller tax base, Obama tries to widen his populist appeal to low/nontaxed voters keeping his party in political favor. The redistribution-of-wealth scheme will only chase more money and businesses out of the US to more business-friendly countries.

Capitalism works well - if it's a fair playing field to all participants, but I doubt the current crop of "leaders" in DC care enough to figure that out.

@ Lynn Martin - Respect has to be earned.

Mr. Obama lost mine when he plays Americans against Americans, states against states, and companies against companies.

He should take a lesson from Lincoln - a president must not divide the country.
