Wayne Newton backs Romney, calls Perry attacks 'mean spirited'

Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton, told NBC he came in hoping to support Rick Perry, but the impeccably tanned crooner said he thought the Texas governor's attacks on Mitt Romney were "mean-spirited" -- and that Romney was a "gentleman."

And now he'll back Romney.

Discuss this post

I'm sure Romney and Perry would both be thrilled to get Wayne Newton's endorsement. Most Republicans identify with Newton on so many levels. . . bling and great hair.

Romney's response:

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Thank you for all the joy and pain.
Picture shows, second balcony, was the place we'd meet,
Second seat, go Dutch treat, you were sweet.

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Save those lies, Darling don't explain.
I recall, Central Park in fall.
How you tore your dress, what a mess, I confess.
That's not all.

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Thank you for walks down Lover's Lane.
I can see, hearts carved on a tree.
Letters inter-twined, for all time, yours and mine, that was fine.

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Thank you for seeing me again.
Though we go on our seperate ways,
Still the memory stays, for always, my heart says, Danke Schoen.

Danke Schoen, Oh Darling, Danke Schoen.
I said, Thank you for seeing me again.
Though we go- on our seperate ways,
Still the memory stays, for always, my heart says, Danke Schoen.

Danke Schoen, Auf Wiedersehen, Danke Schoen

music by Bert Kaempfert, with the lyrics by Kurt Schwaback and Milt Gabler.

THANK YOU LAS VEGAS, ENJOY THE BUFFET....

Wayne Newton's main point was NOT OBAMA! Maybe because Las Vegas has been hit hard, by this economic down fall.It sounde like he like Obama as a person but not as a President, I agree. I don't want any of the people I saw standing up there last nite on CNN.

Pretty harsh judgment there. In the Old Testament, didn't God reveal himself to Samuel the prophet when he was a youth? (1 Samuel Chapter 3) And King David was eight years old when God chose him to be king over Israel. You're welcome to your opinion, but I think it's short-sighted to blast Romney over his belief in something that has similarities to Old Testament events. If you believe in a God that is all-powerful, you really can't limit that God to only talking to adults or individuals that lived hundreds or thousands of years ago.

It's spelled Mormon- not Morman Rich P. Mormon was actually a great Prophet from the Book of Mormon period of time around 400 AD. By young Joseph Smith claiming to see both the Father and the son at the same time does take care of the Niceean Creed (325 AD) the doctrine of men that basically states the Holy Trinity is one entity that can appear in three different forms like water, ice, and steam. The Catholic Church and all those who broke from that Church since 325 AD have kept this believe intact even though they disagreed on other doctrines and teachings. That's why so many different Churches today. Joseph Smith was called to be the Restoration Prophet to restore Jesus Christ Church back to the earth. Remember the 14 year old boy went to a grove of trees in 1820 to ask God which Church he should join. He was told by the Saviour not to join any of them. What better way to begin this Restoration than to appear together to start this important work. If Joseph would have been just following the Niceean creed doctrine, he would have just said, I saw God, or I just saw Jesus Christ- but he said he saw both at the same time. The Father introduced his Son. "Joseph, this is my beloved son, hear him" Why would a young boy say that he saw both the Father & the Son at the same time when the teachings of the time and even today by all of these other Churches reflect the Niceean creed doctrine debate results? What was Joseph suppose to do? Say it never happened? What would you have done if you were in his shoes? I'm sure the young 14 year old boy was the most surprised of all- He was just looking for any easy answer to a humble prayer to get an impression or direction from on high to know what Church he should join at the time. Rich P -no one is telling you to believe this, but don't ridicule someone who does. Not to mention an additional 14 million people. go to mormon.org to get all of the details. At least get up to speed on our beliefs. Ask yourself what you personally believe the true nature of God and his Son Jesus Christ are. Are you a Niceean Creed subscriber or do you believe that God and Christ are actually a Father & Son team? When Christ was baptized of John there came a voice from Heaven- " This is my beloved Son, whom I am well pleased" Talking to himself? Think about it.

Nicely put Julie - I am LDS also amd I to believe Joseph was a Prophet of the Restoration - But that being said, Romney is running to be President of the United States of America - I am tired of the bigotry towards LDS, if Romney wins he will NOT be pushing Mormon views on the country, they LDS bigots are so lame. Perry is a dirty fighterm I am Mormon and I will vote for who I feel is best for the country regardless of their Religious beliefs, and Mitt Romney does not have my vote locked up just cause he is a member of the same church I am. I am not a bigot. If an Amish guy runs and I feel he is best I will vote for an Amish guy - Religion has nothing to do with it

I've had it with tunnel vision ninny's; Example: at your job, you work along side people from different religions (differnt orientations even) yet they still get the job done and their beliefs have nothing to do with productivity. This is just ONE example.

Rick Perry Gets Celebrity Endorsements Too !!!

Singer, songwriter, mystery novelist, and sometime failed politician Kinky Friedman says he would vote for Charlie Sheen over Obama.

But, all in all, the famed leader of the Texas Jew Boys band of the 1970s, and continuing iconoclastic Hill Country celebrity, prefers Perry:

“So would I support Rick Perry for president? Hell, yes! As the last nail that hasn’t been hammered down in this country, I agree with Rick that there are already too damn many laws, taxes, regulations, panels, committees, and bureaucrats.

The Rick Perry Celebrity Endorsements Continue to Roll In!!! Go Ricky! Go Ricky!

The race is officially over. Actor Dean Cain has endorsed Rick Perry. The headline on this Fox News video says it all: “Superman’s Support.” Actually, it’s more like “Scott Peterson’s Support,” as it’s been close to 15 years since "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" was on TV, while Lifetime’s "The Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson Story" aired in 2005. Why would anyone want that endorsement? Cain told Fox that he was supporting Perry because of jobs, which actually makes sense, since Cain has been out of a job since "The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation".

Wayne Newton to sing "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" at Romney fundraiser.

Maybe after Mitt goes to jail for employing illegal aliens, Wayne can bail him out too! Wayne likes celebrity criminals...

In 1991, Different Strokes actress Dana Plato ended up in Las Vegas with no work. She took a job at a dry-cleaning store to support herself. On February 28, she entered a video store, produced a gun, and demanded the money from the register. The clerk called 911 saying, "I've just been robbed by the girl who played Kimberly on Diff'rent Strokes". Fifteen minutes after the robbery, Plato returned to the scene and was immediately arrested. The gun was only a pellet gun and the robbery netted Plato $164.[15] Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton posted her $13,000 bail.[16]

A WAYNE NEWTON ENDORSEMENT IS WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN COCAINE...

SANTA ANA — Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton has insisted he had nothing to do with the Renoir, Dali and Matisse artworks that were offered in trade in an Irvine hotel parking lot for 110 pounds of cocaine.

The would-be drug dealer produced receipts indicating that Newton had purchased some of the art at a prestigious auction house, authorities say, but still the singer didn't seek to claim them.

But now Newton is changing his tune, saying that some of the 17 renowned paintings are his after all, and he wants them back, according to a spokeswoman for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

Because of the flip-flop and some other contradictory statements by Newton in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the DEA is not taking the singer's word for it, said Special Agent Sharon Carter, and has asked him to prove that the contested artworks are indeed his.

According to Carter, Newton's attorney contacted the federal agency after Jose B. Uribe, a onetime Coachella city manager, was convicted last month in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana of attempting to swap the world-famous paintings for two suitcases, each stuffed with 25 kilograms of cocaine.

The attempt occurred at the Irvine Marriott. The drug suppliers turned out to be undercover agents who seized the artworks, including 10 Renoirs, two Dalis and a Matisse, and arrested Uribe, 49, and another man, Raymond Torres of Las Vegas.

When Uribe's trial ended, the DEA was set to turn the paintings over to the U.S. Marshals Service, which would have auctioned the pieces because no one had claimed them, Carter said.

But Newton's attorney recently called to say the entertainer wants them back.

Carter said the entertainer's request puzzled agents because Newton, who is currently embroiled in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, had testified under oath in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Reno that some of the paintings were not his.

He testified that he had merely used his account at Sotheby's auction house to purchase the artwork for a friend.

"You can't claim something that isn't yours," Carter said agents told Newton's attorney. "Agents are obviously interested in the outcome of his claim.

"Normally, people whose property we seize in drug busts abandon [it], but they don't come back and reclaim it. This is unusual."

The scary part of this is that anyone's political choice can be swayed by an entertainment celebrity who has not governmental experience, and even worse that it could be dignified by this many people taking the time to post comments and justify the influence one way or another.
