Subscribe to RSSFLETCHER, NC -- In the first remarks of his three-day bus tour through North Carolina and Virginia, President Obama asked for bipartisan passage of components of his jobs bill -- before blasting Republicans on their jobs plan.
“My plan says we're going to put teachers back in the classroom, construction workers back to work rebuilding America, rebuilding our schools, tax cuts for small businesses,” he said here. “And then you got their plan, which is let's have dirtier air, dirtier water, less people with health insurance.”
The president dismissed the Republican’s ideas as ineffective. “One of the same economists that took a look at our plan took a look at the Republican plan, and they said, ‘Well, this won't do much to help the economy in the short term.” Obama continued, “We could actually lose jobs with their plan.”
He also tried to turn a negative -- having to break his bill up into its component pieces to get it through Congress, after the Senate blocked the full measure last week -- into a positive. “We’re going to break up my jobs bill. Maybe they just couldn't understand the whole thing all at once,” Obama said with a touch of humor. “I'm going to ask members of Congress to vote on one component of the plan, which is whether we should put hundreds of thousands of teachers back in the classroom and cops back on the street and firefighters back to work.”
Last month, the White House estimated that this part of the plan would cost about $35 billion and go towards aiding the states in preventing more teacher and first-responder layoffs. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said he expects an announcement from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid soon on when and how this part of the bill will be voted on. (It is unclear how this component or any individual part of the jobs plan will be paid for.)
Obama's tone was not lost on congressional Republicans. Speaker John Boehner's press secretary fired off a note calling the president’s words “hyperbole,” adding that it was the speaker and Majority Leader Eric Cantor who “first proposed working together to break up the president’s bill to see parts of it passed.”
Obama's fired-up rhetoric -- coupled with the big black bus waiting to whisk the president to his next event in Miller’s Creek, NC and previously unannounced stops like at Countryside BBQ Chicken in Marion, NC -- was also not lost on an audience that chanted “four more years” in the middle of the speech.
Obama quickly tried to quiet them, “I appreciate the 'four more years,' but right now I'm thinking about the next 13 month. Because, yes, we've got an election coming up, but that election is a long ways away and a lot of folks can't wait.”

And lets have a stretch goal of putting them in the form of a FY2012 budget. Lets see how much deficit spending and tax increases the Democrats can stomach in an election year.

Crimes on Wall Street are still trickling down, killing economies and leaving people in America and around the world high and dry. They got their blood. Now it is time for fair play and that is the message being sent to the 1% of this country, and all those who speak for them in Congress. The Norquistians have colluded with ALEC, Koch et. al to bring ordinary people as low as possible. And we know they do not plan to stop until they have squeezed the rest of us dry.

U.S. Unemployment Down Sharply in Early October
Not seasonally adjusted, unemployment falls from 8.7% at the end of Sept. to 8.3% in mid-Oct.

Far Left = Democrats. Democrat/liberal now means communist, Marxist, possibly Muslim, certainly the anti-Christ secularists who want (heaven forbid) Separation of Church and State and civil/individual liberties protected.
Left = Moderate/establishment Republicans, which would now include Nixon, Reagan, and Bush Sr., along with anyone who is not a fundamentalist like Guiliani, Gingrich, etc. or who is not an Evangelical who may be pro-choice like Romney.
Center = Neocon Hawks, NRA members, Libertarian "starve the beast" Ron Paul faction, etc. who are not a fundamentalists obsessed with abortion. This includes Atilla the Hun.
Right = All God-fearing folk who would repeal all progressive elements in our nation, and impose a fascist pro-military, corporatist, authoritarian theocracy.
Far Right = There is no such thing. For conservatives, extremism only exists to the left of their own position.
In the meantime, it's lunch time in Cali and someone is running around the office voting for their own posts. It's not easy being such a powerful, successful, "job creator" and being on FR all day at the same time you know.

How you doing today, good I hope. You mentioned 77% of democrats think Obama should be nominated again, I guess the other 23% don't think he should be nominated again. Besides he has no one running against him in the primaries.
It's about time he started doing this.
Make them vote, up or down, on improving schools, on public safety, on infrastructure, on the environment. Over and over and over again so that it creates a comprehensive record for every democratic congressional candidate to run against in 2012.

So what happens when this money runs out? Borrow some more? How is this a stimulus that creates self-sustaining jobs?
And if you claim that this is paid for, no it's not. As usual the money is borrowed and spent before the taxes to pay for it kick-in. The idea that this is paid for is a sham. (money spent in a year, taxes to last for 10 years starting in 2013, Washington's usual way of working).
Hiring teachers and firefighters doesn't create self-sustaining jobs?
As for how building infrastructure might do it, I refer you to the WPA. People who are working create demand for goods and services. Once you've cranked up demand far enough, it takes care of itself. Even if the jobs were only temporary, ultimately, those workers will be able to filter back into the permanent workforce.
Besides, no job is really self-sustaining. Most jobs last fewer than 5 years. Jobs stolen from other states, like Rick Perry does, are particularly prone to being temporary. Or didn't you know?

At his campaign speech in NC I figured out Obama's Job plan another 500 billion stimulis and if you can say yes we can instead of no we can't, yes we can, yes we can, oops sorry I just took a teaching or police person jobb away from 1 of the unemployed 9+%, no we can't, there I gave it back.
