In remarks at a union training facility in Pittsburgh, PA, President Obama called today's upcoming jobs bill vote “a moment of truth” for the U.S. Senate.
“Today is the day when every American will find out exactly where their senator stands on this jobs bill,” Obama said.
Earlier in the day, at a roundtable discussion with his jobs council, the president acknowledged the possibility that the bill will need to be broken up to get parts of it passed. "Our expectation is, if they don't pass the whole package, we're going to break it up into constituent parts."
But he didn't mention that in his speech at the union training facility. Instead, Obama continued to encourage the audience to “let Congress know who they work for,” and he said that senators will need to look them in the eye and explain a “no” vote on the bill.
Obama is headed to Orlando, FL for two fundraising events. He is also expected to meet with a few unemployed construction workers during his brief stop in the Sunshine State.

About time the rubber hits the road...
Show us what you got!
Then you can go home & explain WHY you voted NO on assisting the middle class & rebuilding THIS country
Eric Cantors already on record as championing spending 12 BILLION dollars for schools in Iraq (after spending the money to blow them up)...
Yet, when it come to disaster assistance & eduction right here in America - he's a resounding NO!
Feisty,
The headline on HuffPo:
(With a big wet sloppy hug from Christie.)
Do the jokes write themselves, or not?
When will the poor, disabled, old, or unemployed Tea People wake up?
.....my bad....there aren't any!
Don't you mean sweaty GF? lol
And I thought 2008 was a whole lot of fun... we ain't seen nothin yet! ;o))
Chilled - that's because they work for a living and don't wait for handouts.
Yup, REB(numbers)...I can see Grandma hobbling in to work her minimum wage job on her walker!
Nice!
Eric Cantor is in the house not the senate.
REB -- Yes the Teabaggers are a part of the struggling working class too, and many are on Social Security, disability and unemployment. They can't wake up to the fact that they vote against their own best interests. Why such people protect CEOs earning outrageous incomes compared to their employees, and worse pay a lower effective tax rate than their employees is mind bending.
Where did I mention he was in the Senate?
Chilled
Good for you. We do and have always taken care of them. It's lazy able-bodied chumps like you that we don't want to have look after as well.
What is the 'Helping the Middle Class' section in the jobs bill?
Serious question.
On a lighter note...how about Koch Industries...being investigated because one of their subsidiaries was doing business with Iran...bribery...huh...who'da thunkit...
...gee...ya think greed is THAT powerful?

That's the part where he sends money to the states to hire back the teachers etc. that were laid off because the states have no money thanks to the outrageous pension and medical benefits they gave the unions and now have to meet. Don't worry, it will only last another year and then the states will be back in the same boat and the same people will be laid off again for the same reason.
it's the same thing he did in 2009 and now he wants to do it again.
"Eric Cantor is in the house not the senate."
"Dog", or "Out"?
Actually, better yet, define 'middle class'.
25,000/yr - 100,000/yr?
I can't really see that as a single 'class', despite what our politicans say. Those guys aren't exactly going to run into each other househunting.
The acknowledgement that the White House is now interested in breaking up the bill follows a Monday meeting between Obama and Senate Democratic leaders.

What does this tell you about what the President KNEW going into this process?
REB-1013231
Spoken like a true tea bagger. Gosh, where do you people come from?
Aw Danger - maybe he was kinda hoping the GOP would vote "present?"
Of course that still leaves those racist, puppy hating dummies: Manchin, McCaskill, Nelson, Tester and Casey.
Surprising, seeing how Reid's got him the magic underwear and all.
Hey, maybe they can get all bi-partisan and vote for a budget?
No way, not Harry.
teknisham - you need to lay off that kind of talk Mr. or TruePatriot will revoke your Team Blue membership.

according to Chuck Schumer
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) Does Not Support Obama’s Tax On Incomes Over $250,000 Because That Is “Firmly In The Middle Class” And “Not Rich.” “But the president also wanted to raise taxes on families making more than $250,000 a year by limiting income-tax deductions they can take. That didn’t sit well with rank-and-file Democrats. Schumer said families that earn $250,000 or $300,000 a year aren’t rich enough to deserve extra taxes. He described them as ‘firmly in the middle class. They are not rich, and in large parts of the country, that kind of income does not get you a big home or lots of vacations or anything else that’s associated with wealth in America,’ he said.”

Job 1. I come from New York why do you ask??
REB and Job1 - have you all been paying attention to Cali?
We are the heart of Blue, progressive through and through, and yet things just don't seem to be all wine and roses around here.
No, Jerry Brown had got a big pile of steaming crap to deal with, all with a very blue state legislature.
Oh and now several municipalities are about to go under. It really is paradise. Thanks progressives, your ideas are fantastic.
It's the moment of truth alright Obama, as in you're not on the side of it.
Spanky,
Team Blue membership?
eh...I'm feeling more Team Purple any more. Both parties are leaving me behind as they split in opposite directions at breakneck speed.
Although I did like this piece, think you might as well. ;
politics.salon.com/2011/10/10/the_great_8_billionaires_who_will_pay_more/
SALON actually sent out emails and calls to every billionaire in the US, asking if they wanted to pay more taxes. 8 of them responded with 'yes'...and then gave some serious stipulations like 'but only if the government doesn't spend it on garbage like they have been. Or administrative overhead.'
You'd dig it.
Spanky, no thoughts on Koch-Gate?
Nothing? Nothing at all? No "two cents"?
You disappoint, "counselor"...
Schwarzenegger, a Republican, left the steaming pile of crap for Jerry Brown. Thank goodness for Brown's immense experience or it would be even worse in Cali right now. With the economic collapse it was forcast that states and municipalities would go under. Go back to pissing in Havasu instead of mucking up FR.
Jeez -tek, seems like just weeks ago you were a ardent libbie.
Billionaires? Forget about it, the politicians are coming for all of our money.
Oh wait, did I say "our" money? No, to them it's their money.
I usually wait until I get home to rock the libbie sites - Salon, TPM, KOS and Firedog. Most of them be hatin' on the pres. lately. So where's the fun in that?
Moonbeam's "immense" experience? Oh my goodness. That is the line of the day.
Ardent?
I still consider myself Blue Dog.
But seriously. Out of 400, they had 8 say 'yes' and even began calling out St. Warren.
And it's not like they were against the overall concept, acknowledging they had the money...
it's they didn't appreciate how government spent it's funds. When you make yourself rich by fiscal discipline, and vision, I suppose I could sympathize with not wanting to give more money than you must to UI, Foreign Aid, Military Adventurism, etc.
And, TruePat, Arnie was a RINO. He's married to a Shreiver (Sp?) and had 0 real conservative policies of any stripe. He was flat-out progressive.
Don't bother explaining Swartzanegger.
Unless you lived the nightmare here in Cali, you won't begin to understand.
But like TP said, we are all good now, we got us a Moonbeam. What could go wrong?
I just read an article that the muni-bonds are about to start failing. If you got any - sell now.
I stay out of bonds. Too little return, and I'm too young to worry about the slow-and-steady route.
I Angel when I have the money.
You don't post as OldFatGuy at FDL, do you?
The reason states and municipalities are hurting has to do with the economic meltdown and loss of property taxes (from people losing their homes) and then income taxes (from people losing their jobs). It is not because of unions and pensions or benefits. Go back to The Blaze or where ever you get such misinformation and stop peddling your snake oil here.
Cool TruePatriot and I agree - blame Dodd and Frank.
Yeah, Truepatriot, at least they got Freddie and Fannie to stop hemorrhaging money.
Wait, what's that - it's worse now then ever? Why TruePat - that sure ain't gonna help out our fine municipalities.
What is Frank doing to fix? They are his babies after all - he said they were all good back in 2007.
So TruePat - where can we get us some snake oil? rickser is spot on, Brown is in the toilet and desperate. Yeah, and pensions and state payroll has absolutelynothing to do with it, right TrueP?
Right. Cause those lifeguards are worth every penny of that $150k. The head librarian at $250k guaranteed pension for life? Why not, totally sustainable, right TrueP?
Obama's Tax and Spend policy has failed so far and finally the Senate voted his next request down. Obama its gut check time for you... Quit hiding and do something other than your failed policies...
The CBO says that Obama's 'Jobs Bill' would increase Deficits by $417 Billion over the next 2 years, and virtually all of the 'jobs created or saved' would be only for union workers. This is just more of the same thing as 'Stimulus 1' which was supposed to 'keep unemployment under 8%' but was a huge flop. Here is the link;
http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/124xx/doc12470/s1549.pdf See Table 1
What he didn't say is that even his own party people won't support him 100%. What a poor excuse for a leader.
What does it say when the Dems try to postpone the vote…change the bill…blame the Republicans and now the White House is bracing for the bill not to pass. If you can't get your own party to vote for the bill…it's time to stop blaming the other party and come up with something else outside of tax and spend to basically create or save only union and/or government jobs. If you don't want to let the private sector loose come up with something else other than tax increases. I wonder - how are the Dems and Reid going to spin this one?
BTW - got to get those fundraisers in on the public tab.
The Dems postponed the vote for many reasons, but most of all they changed the bill because some wanted to end subsidies for all industries not just Big Oil. Also, the new funding from a surtax on net income above and beyond the first million (including capital gains) will help reduce the deficit. There have already been discretionary spending cuts, and the only other cuts would be defense (if only we could end the wars immediately and cut back on Homeland Security), or laying off teachers, first responders, etc. -- in other words more job loss.
The poor excuse for anything are the uncompromising Do Nothing Teapublicans. From the WSJ:
The votes will be on record. Why would anyone reelect a representative who votes against "economic growth and employment.?"
TruePatriot-445959
So you agree that the Senate Dems didn't "support this bill" i.e. the one the big "O" has been flying around promoting.
BTW - The funding by taxing millionaires makes up 449 billion and they need 447 billion. Some reduction but that's only if they apply it to that purpose. In any event since this taxes W2 income every baseball player, basketball player etc. etc. are facing this tax. Buffett didn't want it on W2 income but on people like himself that made money other than W2 income.
You of course have to have a real job to know what W2 income is or you could look it up.
" Why would anyone reelect a representative who votes against "economic growth and employment.?"
Trust me, True- if it meant Obama going down in flames- plenty of 'em. Hell, you can read the posts of some of them right here, every damned day.
Yeah Drive By and TruePatriot, why indeed?
I know let's ask Manchin, Nelson, Tester and casey.
See they can plainly see Obama spiraling downward. Hell McCaskill won't even be in the same CITY as Obama.
But tell us DBO - are there many representatives that post here?
You are funny.
It's no wonder conservatives don't recognize what's going on. It's called compromise. It's the way government is supposed to work. We all know conservatives don't recognize or understand the term.
Good for us. Just like you guys compromised on Obamacare and Dodd-Frank?
When you guys count it's 10 for you and one for me.
Exactly my point, REB. You are only interested in yourself.
You forgot McCaskill and Landrieu, Spanky. They're both "no".
fielden
Perhaps if you said 5 for me and 5 for you it would be different.
Also I notice you didn't respond to the Obamacare/Dood-Frank compromises. Please note they weren't rhetorical comments. I would have expected an answer.
You sound like the Big O said in 2009 "Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won."
In 2010 he changed his tune after he got destroyed in the midterms. Then he said "We Need to Come Together'"
Think about it - NOW you want compromise. Stick it.
Sorry but Manchin, Casey, McCaskill and Landrieu all voted yes !!!
HOLLA!
None of them want to explain why they voted against the 99%!!!
Dennis,
How you doing today, hope all is well. Yes Manchin, Casey, McCaskill and Landrieu all voted yes for cloture but they stated they would vote no if it came to a vote on the bill, so along with Nelson and Libermann the bill would have failed even if it passed cloture.
This was not a good "jobs bill" no matter how you slice it. You know my position is that the federal government should not be giving tax money to the states, cities, school districts, for teachers, police or firefighters, that is the responsibility of the local governments, which have the power to raise taxes for essential services.
Hi Sarge,
It wasn’t Liebermann it was Tester.
Also it was to show that Republicans would not even allow the bill to get to the floor for a debate. If it was allowed a debate then there could have been amendments and if the Dems wouldn’t allow them the voters could then decide who is blocking progress.
With tonight’s vote it appears that Republicans don’t even want to talk about it. My 2¢
I thought Reid changed the rules so now the Minority(Republicans) cant offer amendments, something like that
"I am not a crook" --- barack obama
Rob in ma, Show me where he said that. Is that the best you can post? DA WINNING, huh Rob?
Smitty,
Raab just flies by the seat of his pantaloons...
It is a moment of truth he has that exactly right, the ball is in Congress's court.
"I'm a dick"- Rob in ma.
Maybe the current democrats can call all the democrats that got fired during the mid terms and ask them how it worked out for them when they listen to obama saying "you have me".
Time for the clueless to walk the plank AGAIN!
Rob, Again DA WINNING.
Officials said they will work with the Senate “to sequence out which components and when” to move them after the bill is defeated Tuesday night.

What does this tell you?
It tells us that the Democrats will once gain be Drama Queens as they stomp their little feet and hold their breath when America once again tells Obama to take a long walk off a short pier.
That TruePatriot and Drive By will be even more grumpy tomorrow than today.
That Obama is in the dying throes of his presidency, and it will continue downward, in an ever increasing spiral.
That Reid ran out of tricks. but then again, he already went nuclear to protect this putrid POS of a bill.
And finally, after his budget offering, and now this, Obama really ought to stay on the golf course.
That Republicans/Conservatives/Tea Partiers don't care about America.
That maybe my boy fielden will clue in that several dems senators, who are up for re-election no like-y this bill.
So how about it fielden - why don't Casey, Manchin, Nelson and the rest care about American?
They are dems for god's sake. They have to care.
Don't they?
@Spanky-".............no like-y...". Sometimes you just crack me up. LOL
The moment of truth? our moment of truth is the GOP/TP moment of lies. Is it the same truth that eludes GOP/TP Conservatives? Like when they say the unemployed should go get a job where there is none? Like the taxes cuts for the top 1% that has not created nothing but welfare for the rich and corp? Truth like the Americans/corporations has done better under a Democratic Governance. Those are the moment of truth that I know.
Obama campaigning again. We had our 85 year old neighbor over for a cookout last weekend. The news was on TV when she was coming up the stairs. They were playing a clip from Obama's recent news conference. When she heard his voice, she turned to us and said "That Barack Obama. Doesn't he ever shut up!" And she voted for him!  Proof to me that the more he speaks, the less people listen.
Most of america tuned out this charlatan long ago
Right on, Rocco! Even his own party doesn't listen to him anymore...pretty sad really...
Rocco-2976776
Who else witnessed this 85 yrs old neighbor event with you? AHAAAA.......that's a typical teapublican moment of lies.
Rocco -- That's just proof that Teapublican fear-mongering the elderly telling them the president didn't want to send out Social Security checks worked on that poor old lady. Tell her about Paul Ryan Hoods arse-backward plan to steal from her Medicare to give more tax breaks to the rich. Then we'll see who she votes for.
Neat, Rocco- one old lady is the whole party. Who knew??
PEN, If you noticed, I used the term "WE", but if it that important to you, it was my Wife and 90 year old Mother who happens to know my neighbor. We are still laughing about it. It was precious.
Well..you know Rocco, denial is the life blood of the liberals. Sure don't believe your neighbor, but we are supposed to believe all this hope and change thing Obammy's been yapping about for the last 3 years...
All I can say is that any member of Congress that is up for re-election and votes down a decent jobs bill is an awfully good sport to sacrifice their position to insure Obama is re-elected, because that is what will happen if something is not passed soon enough to produce tangible results by next November. It's getting a little warm up there in Waterloo.
Officials said they will work with the Senate “to sequence out which components and when” to move them after the bill is defeated Tuesday night.
The White House has hammered Republicans for refusing to pass the jobs bill and hopes to portray the GOP as intransigent. But its case could be complicated by Democratic holdouts.
The White House officials emphasized Tuesday that the bill will have the “vast majority of Democrats” backing it, and that moving forward, the White House will work with individual senators like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to enlist support for the aspects of the bill they can support.
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/186737-white-house-braces-for-defeat-of-obama-jobs-package

This isn't a real piece of legislation, it's "statement" that was never intended to pass, but to "frame" the argument that will form the basis of the President's reelection campaign.
Both sides couldn't care less about the millions of people who have been suffering for the past years. It's all about posturing, perception and positioning...
I have a position I'd like to see them all assume...
lol, df.
Sorting wheat from chaff...as usual.
What's this - the politicians are only posturing? They don't really care about me and my problems?
Get out!
Damn you DF - I was promised Hope. I was promised Change.
Why must you insist on bursting so many bubbles around here?
MB-
Grab your Bass, I feel another song coming on...
I have paid rather close attention to the polls and while there have been a couple that broke about 50/50 for Obama's latest bill being a "good jobs bill" the majority have fewer than 33% of the responders believing it will work. Voting this bill down is not going to hurt many congressmen.
Right wrong or indifferent if a bill is not passed Congress takes a lot of the heat off Obama.
Do you really play the bass MB?
Well PEN, If you noticed, I used the term "WE". And if it is that important to you, it was my wife and 90 year old Mother who happens to know my Neighbor. We are still laughing about it now. It was precious.Â
The moment of truth!
Where Senate Dems from red states will run as far away as they can from the toxic "stimulus 2" and the electorally poisonous leftist Obama.
Today is the day when every American will find out exactly where their senator stands on this jobs bill" Quote from Obama as he campaigns for re-election.
I wonder if President Obama remembers that he works for ALL Americans, Dems, Republicans, Independents and everyone else who has not aligned themselves with any party or movement? I do not think so. If you are not sporting the "donkey" on your lapel or ball cap, you are against his agenda and only receives his attention when it moves his personal agenda forward.
We need a President that is "party-blind" so that he can equitably represent all of us. Not likely to happen with the ideologue Obama.
Does that moment of truth also apply to the Democratic Senators who aren't voting for the bill or just the Republicans? The only bipartisan factor in this Jobs Act is the bipartisan opposition to it. Oh, MSNBC isn't telling you that. Gee, wonder why?
You are one warped human being! You are ONLY person has mentioned the skin color of this President. You know you REALLY should be more tolerant and you REALLY should be on some sort of medication!
GOP,
Why do all your posts mention that BHO is black? Do you not think we all know that now? Why do you continue to infer his being black has anything to do with awful policy?
Or do you feel his awful policy should be passed because he is black?
Just curious, as you always bring it up
ABO 2012
I already wrote to my Senator, Democrat Sherrod Brown of Ohio, and told him to vote against this bill. But he knows the people of Ohio don't support it. He can also look at his job approval ratings and knows he is in trouble for re-election just like Obama
Wow, I see the lefty's are in full attack/damage control mode prior to the vote. Jobs bill? It's just another waste of the taxpayers money.
Which part of bankrupt don't everyone understand?
The part about still having billions to give in subsidies to outrageously profitable oil companies, for starters!
Two demwits voted this bill down, otherwise it would have passed. Blame THEM. Its obvious the dems don't want to put Americans to work.
They needed 60 votes for cloture so they were short 9 votes.
ok....
We got to wait for the republicans to pray over the problems of this country. They have no plan never did.
Why we don't need a jobs bill. The Republicans are going to pray over this country problems.
This must be kind of awkward Mr President.
I see fiesty again failed to explain why Obama has been running around the country, blaming the Republican Congress for not passing this Bill. As I pointed out to her procedurally, the Bill must first pass the Senate. But there fiesty was parroting Obama, and taking her shots about the "do nothing Republican Congress", and getting " up votes" on this vine from her adoring liberal minions. I already know the answer to this, it was Obama's flavor of the month, it didn't matter to Obama or fiesty Congress hadn't even received the Bill yet. Andthe idiots posting on this vine who believe this is a "fix all" jobs Bill, are blind, deaf, and DUMB. This is nothing but a TAX Bill and will at most be a, "temporary fix" UNTIL THE MONEY RUNS OUT. Obama claims all that is needed it $447 billion, paid by the RICH(of course) and teachers, fire fighters, and policemen will have jobs. And our precious infrastructure and dilapidated bridges will be repaired, and this will put millions back to work. Again wasn't this the same hog wash we were told back in 2009, to sell Americans on the first Stimulus spending? And did that not turn out to be a "temporary fix"? Infrastructure is still in disrepair, and teachers and fire fighters jobs hang in the balance. And just read what the comments on this vine, you people still haven't figured out the definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome.
Where is, UAW MAKES ME SICK,This Republican minion actually thinks that the stimulas money that Obama wants to spend on infrastructure will only go to union workers. Just how stupid are you to think that? Get your head out of your a,ss and get the facts. Federal work is based on the prevailing wages of the state that it is being done in.
This makes it fair for everyone. I guess your saying fairness doesnt work? Just because you are a Republican foot soldier making substandard wages you want to bring everyone down to your level.
Let me tell you, all of you people should Unionize they are the only ones other than the rich who make a decent living and can afford to live a decent life and have things.
A "moment of truth". Obamaa would not now the truth if it hit him in the head. It was a moment of Democratic political theater aimed at campaigning versus governing! I still cannot figure out why the Senate Democrats elected Reid and Shumer as their leaders ... It speaks volumes about them! Maybe it is time to send ole Harry back out ot Nevada to read some "cowboy poetry" or maybe cut the ribbon on his earmarked technology development center in the middle of nowhere! hAVing HArry as the Senate lead is a crap shoot for our Nation anyway.
I briefed through the blogs hoping to learn something of value
NOTTA NOTHING a complete waiste of time
Fair enough, Darrel:
Here's a small tidbit,...the word nada is spelled nada
not notta.
Glad I could help.
P.S. BUY the executive order by obama when he first took office concerning the first stimulus that did not work ( same stuff more money won;t work )
By executive order president obama all government contracts must go to union workers , THE CONTRACTOR DON'T HAVE TO BE UNION BUT THE CONTRACTOR MUST HIRE UNION WORKERS
MAY BE YOU SHOULD GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT SIR
Lets be clear Mr. President. It wont be where every US Citizens will find out, it will be where YOU find out where your your party stands behind you. And dont forget YOUR Senate leader is behind this thing only because your dragging him kicking and screaming.
