Chris Christie to endorse Romney

NBC News confirms that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will make a surprise appearance today and endorse GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney this afternoon in New Hampshire before tonight's debate.

Romney and Christie will be holding a joint press conference at 3:00 pm ET.

Christie announced last week that he would not be getting into the race, and at that time said he was waiting to endorse down the road. Christie and Romney have had a good relationship for many years, but it is a surprise that it is happening so quickly.

Ironically, the endorsement comes on the heels of a recent "Saturday Night Live" skit, in which the comedian playing Christie tried to convince Republican donors to give Romney a chance.

NBC's Chuck Todd reports that popular New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will endorse Mitt Romney's presidential run.

Chris Christie exemplifies that nothing in politics is ever engraved in stone.

And tomorrow Christie will reconsider whether he should get into the race himself.

With their relentless attacks on conservatives, their viewership, like all left wing shows, has declined.

SNL ought to do a skit on Harry Reid trying to talk his fellow Democrats into voting for the Presidents "Jobs" Bill.

Now that would be funny.

Personally, I think it's because Christie saw the Clooney movie, and he thinks he can play kingmaker.

Obviously, there's a promise in it for him somewhere to bring out such an early endorsement.

If he can't run for president himself, this may be his next best choice, and a spot on Romney's 2012 ticket would position him well in 2016, should Romney lose.

Just like Sarah Palin. LoL

Which reminds me of that old SNL sketch where she and McCain go on QVC and she sells her own 2012 T-shirts off to the side so McCain won't see her.

You think there's nothing in this for Christie? Hah.

Charles Krauthammer says Robert Jeffress, the Perry-supporting pastor who took a swing at Mormonism, is not Perry's "Jeremiah Wright" but nonetheless is now linked with him. Krauthammer says Jeffress comment has "no place in a country whose Constitution specifically prohibits a religious test."

"I think it's therefor incumbent on Perry -- it isn't enough to say he doesn't agree. Like it not, he's associated with Reverend Jeffress. Obviously, it is not as long as an association, it's nothing like the Jeremiah Wright association with Obama. But he did introduce him, and he didn't make the statement in the introduction, but he made it afterwards. So you are connected and I think Jon Huntsman is right when he said today -- that he is also a Mormon -- that the correct response from Governor Perry should be to break with Rev. Jeffress. I think that is a high bar, but I think it is important. It would make a statement that we don't have religious tests," Krauthammer told "Special Report."

    @ dangerfield --

I saw Jeffress on Hardball last evening, and I have to say I changed my opinion about him. He's not at all irrational, even though I don't agree with his position AT ALL, and he was clearly able to distinguish -- which Krauthammer apparently fails to do -- between the "religious test" as applied to the government, which is all the Constitution prohibits, and the religious test applied by individuals, such as the religious test applied by some voters both for and against John F. Kennedy.

Evangelicals apply religious litmus tests all the time. We probably all do it, at least to some extent, including Krauthammer. You can't regulate that. It's not forbidden by the Constitution. The only thing the Constitution prohibits is government doing it. In other words, Congress could not pass a valid law prohibiting a Mormon -- or a Muslim -- from being President.

So, Jeffress is entitled to his opinion, and actually he explained it very articulately, even if I disagree with him, which I do, quite strongly.

Telling him he can't have that opinion is the thing that is offensive and not consistent with our values as Americans.

Well, well, well, so Christie endorsed Romney. We'll I'd like to say I told you so, but I didn't, I'm not surprised though. Romney's the guy, everything else is just a side-show. It's Romney's turn. He will be the GOP/TP/LDS nominee. Check your Vegas odds and make your bet. It's gonna happen.

Wow, Perry cratered a lot faster than I thought he would. He crashed and burned faster than Bachman and I didn't think that was possible.

Herman Cain will hold on for awhile and may even be asked to be Romney's running mate, but I still think Pawlenty is the man for that job. We'll see. But the rest of them are done, stick a fork in them.

I would like to take a moment and report that I was forced to watch "Fox and Friends" this morning while I had my oil changed at the Toyota dealership. I was appalled. It was far worse than anything I had imagined. I very nearly had a stroke. My blood pressure rose dramatically (I'm on medication but F&F overwhelmed that very quickly) and I could feel the pounding in my ears that signals me I've got a problem. Every segment should have been labelled "OPINION" or "COMMENTARY". That's not news, that's propaganda! That network is a crime against humanity. I had never watched more than a minute or two of FOX before but I was forced to watch about 20 minutes this morning and it was absolutely unbelievable. Every segment should have had a disclaimer "The following is an editorial opinion and does not reflect the view or opinions OF ANY RATIONAL HUMAN BEING nor should it be confused with actual NEWS PROGRAM OR NEWS CONTENT."

Wow, my blood pressure is spiking just writing about it.

And what is the deal with GRETCHEN??? She looked like she was about to explode! She was wound so tight I thought her head was going to pop off. Is she like that all the time? Her legs were crossed so tightly her knee bones were white and she had her hands clasped together so tightly her knuckles were white. And, her eyes were practically bulging. You could see the white ALL THE WAY AROUND her eyes. Drugs? Dope? Terror? Revulsion? What is the deal with that woman?

Wow. Now I understand why this country is in the mess it is in. You take Rush Limbaugh (please) and Fox News and combine them with the gullibility of the so-called "right" and you have a very dangerous combination. I'm serious folks, we need to start petitioning the FCC. Those folks need to be off the air. BIG TIME!

    Spanky,

Ah Forrest, did you miss the big story on Obama and the amount he got from Wall Street?

Now why does this not shock me. Spanky that is what really frosts my balls, is when I see all these people playing this Protest Game of Occupy Wall Street. Herman Cain who I personally like for President, because he is not a Professional Politician and has shown the most class in answering the questions concerning religion. He said it best, " Go OCCUPY THE WHITEHOUSE THEY ARE THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR FAILED POLICIES! Now these libs are going to go out there and support their man Obama when he has accepted campaign donations and is the number 1 reciever of these, tells the whole story. Can you spell PAY-OFF!

Its amazing how gullible people are concerning politics. The guy who has added to all these problems and seems not to know what to do is sitting in the Whitehouse now. Hopefully only till Nov 2012. Then Christie comes out and endorses Romney. Don't get me wrong. I am actually a new convert to the LDS faith. Yet I am not sold on this guy. Yet who where waiting in the wings for Christie. Yes indeed all those billionaire Republican Donors who wanted someone other than Romney and don't want Perry. So Christie endorses a fellow East Coast Governor.

As always the Establishment is making the choices for us. What do you think if Christie would of endorsed Herman Cain. His numbers would sky rocket. Yet these Politicians really don't care for new players coming to the game. So once again they choose their boy. When will people wake up. The Establishment will not let us vote a REAL PERSON into Office. If you think that your vote is counting then let me show you some beach front property in Az. WE THE PEOPLE need to hold the right people's feet to the fire. Now if Obama was a Republican, he would be sitting in Impeachment proceedings right now.

Its time we take back our government and vote out all the incumbents. Every last one of them. You know when something is in your toilet and it stinks. What do you do? Flush that crap down the drain. It is time for us Americans to do this. I have been saying this ever since I got involved in Politics in 1995. When I attended my first Central Committee Meeting and there where like 12 people there making the decisions for the entire electorate of a county with an estimated population now of 100k people. Do you see the problem. Its not that these meetings are closed to the public. Its just people don't seem to care enough to get involved. I am not saying just one party. Yet I am talking both parties. In fact its time for a party called "WE THE PEOPLE of THE UNITED STATES of America".

    Cain/Gingrich 2012

Yes I know Gingrich is what I said we need less of. My reasoning is that Gingrich knows the in's and out's of Washington and knows how to move legislation through Constitutionally.

    MB-

    I beg to differ...of course...

This is going to be an interesting period at FR...

    ------------------------------------

    From last night's NewsHour...

David Brody. He's the chief political correspondent for the Christian Broadcasting Network.

JUDY WOODRUFF: So -- but what do the polls show? Among those Republican voters who Romney needs to win, to get to the nomination, which is what he wants, what do they think about Mormonism?

DAVID BRODY: Well, there's a numbers problem for him.

It's kind of like in kindergarten, where you give everybody else the head-start in the race, and then the person -- you know, there's one kindergartner who is far back. This is the situation with Mitt Romney. In other words, the Michele Bachmanns and the Herman Cains and the Rick Perrys are all starting with a lead, if you will, because there's a problem with evangelical voters as it relates to Mitt Romney.

Thirty percent, maybe even 40 percent, won't even take a look at him. And so Mitt Romney is at a disadvantage already to begin with. But the good news for Mitt Romney is that, at least what we have seen in 2012, that he's been the most solid candidate of everyone in terms of being able to not make any mistakes and to be able to be pretty adept during those debates.

And so he's going to have to be on his game from the beginning for people to take even a second look at him.

      Oh well, df.

I guess it's four more years of the Obama Administration.

      Sigh.

      Anyway..."interesting period at FR"?

      Elaborate, please.

      If you don't mind?

        MB-

The one thing that I know about the future is that it is unknowable...

It's interesting to see both sides sort of flailing around this republican nominating process. I can't tell who's more confused about what they want to happen, the left or the right...Not you MB, although you may have to revise your "ticket" at some point. That said, I am becoming convinced that Mitt is inevitable republican nominee, and based on my opening statement, that may not bode well for him...

          #1.56 - Tue Oct 11, 2011 5:33 PM EDT

We as a nation need to quit looking at the person's Religious belief's as a litmus test for our President. President Obama won and he claims to be a Christian. Yet he never attended the National Day of Prayer. Yet he is our President whether we like it or not. The last time Mitt ran the same thing came up with his Religion, only then it was Huckabee's campaign who sent out flyers about his beliefs. Back then I was an evangelical christian. Yet I joined the LDS church this January. Why? Because I continually witnessed hypocrisy in the church over and over. When George W Bush was running. The Church I attended back then said GW is the guy GOD's has anointed for this hour. Ok, whether you agree or not. I will say this about the LDS. They do keep their faith and politics separate. In fact they don't talk about Politics in Sacrament Meetings, Priesthood, or Sunday school. The other reason I joined is the continued witness of people who where about God, family, job, recreation. They lived their lives as they believe. Sure they have some Mormons who fall. Yet they are the minority. The reason for their continued success in this area, is COMMUNITY. They really believe that I am my brothers keeper. When I was hurting and down. When I was homeless and without. When I could not pay my rent. Before I ever joined. It was LDS believers who lifted me up and helped me. Not one from my old church helped. A church I was a part of for years and I tithed more than 10% because the LORD asked me too. Yet when I was in need. A friend called the Church and they (Non-Denominational Church) told my friend to call back during business hours and that they would be able to assist me with $50 dollars help. So you tell me who actually follows the love of Christ. They got me into a house, clean and sober, it was my LDS boss that held me too task on keeping and staying clean. They did all this without ever being a member or the promise of becoming a member. My boss and I became best friends. I asked him why they where helping me? He said because that is what Jesus would do. So as I said before I like Cain. Will my Bishop come by and get angry. NOPE. Lets keep this about substance and not a persons religion.

Skip your blanket comment about all Republicans,TP, LDS, Conservatives. It is utterly appalling. You ever hear of Freedom of the Press. If it was up to the Left they would silence every voice that does not line up with their Supposed Progressive Beliefs. I suppose your going to blame GW more. In fact GW is probably the reason Obama's jobs bill failed in the Senate. Oh BTW, you talk about propaganda look at MSNBC's comment on this. I love it Almost every Democrat voted for it. Well from where I stand its the Democrats who control the Senate. It sounds to me that several of your own are parting ways with Obama the Messiah to you all.

Dangerfield, I understand what you are saying, but I am a Republican, evangelical fundamentalist Christian and I think Mitt Romney is the man for the job. Extremists will not want to vote for him, but I really believe that there are more Christians that can separate church and state then the general public is aware of. Yes, I believe in Christian morals and values, but I don't believe that Romney has shown a tendency towards amoral politics.

This is a surprise endorsement. Romney will never win the south. I can see the establishment republicans being led by the media bashing of Perry into the same corner they were put in with McCain. The media is attempting to tear Perry down because Romney is their pick.

The Republicans will be in the same situation and the Democraps are encouraging a Romney win. They know if Romney is the nominee, a lot of Republicans will just sit home rather than vote for him.

Amy B.: Do you keep an actual scrapbook of my First Read posts, or just a special file on your computer?

The entertainment value from them is precious. Like this one:

            Amy B., Portland ME:

Headlines this week in Maine tell us a Wall Street charitable foundation is donating 3 million dollars to encouraging entrepreneurs, which is estimated to create 10,000 jobs in the next decade, and give a shot in the arm to our manufacturing industry.

If 3 million dollars can to do that much in Maine, then think what 700 billion could do in the rest of the country. And, this kind of investment would go a long way towards strengthening our technology and infrastructure so we can really lead the world, once again

Amy, do the math. 3 million dollars divided by 10,000 jobs is $300/job. What kind of jobs were you expecting them to be Amy? So say it's a 1,000 jobs, thats $3000/job, not even a months pay for a decent job. Take it to 100 jobs, that's $30,000/job. That's what a full time worker makes at Costco in a year.

As our President says Amy, do the math.

I was just reading a little article on the plight of the illegals in Maine.

I of course thought of you - the only one I know who lives there [other than Stephen King].

So, what gives Amy - ok to hate on the Canadians, but not on the Mexicans?

Oh, and I have a special file on my computer, but it ain't got nothing to do with politics. :)

Wow, JoannaSmith1, and crew, you really don't know what "job creation" entails, do you, not to mention how to "grow an economy." Didn't you read the article I linked to? (I know you usually do)

Blackstone is donating $3 million to programs that fund entrepreneurs in Maine. One recipient is a podiatrist who has developed several medical devices and wants to build a company to manufacture and market them. It is estimated this $3 million investment in innovation will generate 10,000 jobs over the next decade and grow Maine's economy by $664 million dollars. If $3 million donated by a charitable organization can grow 10,000 jobs, in one state, think what President Obama's jobs bill could do for America.

            Amy doubles down.

It is estimated this $3 million investment in innovation will generate 10,000 jobs over the next decade.

If you can show the results where any other "$3 million investment" generated 10,000 jobs, you'll win the Nobel Peace Prize for Economics. Then you and Barack can sit around in fine leather chairs in rooms with mahogany walls, smoke fine cigars and drink 20 year old scotch while you discuss your Nobel's.

If $3 million donated by a charitable organization can grow 10,000 jobs, in one state, think what President Obama's jobs bill could do for America.

Amy, you should go to one of those investment seminars in a motel conference room near you, and when the con man, err, presenter says "You invest $1000, and I'll make it so you earn $1 million!!", it's legit, and you should write the check.

G.B. Mamma, it is Obama that has been predictable with all of the mistakes he and his anti-gun, anti-business appointees have made. Fast and Furious and Solyndra are only two!!!

but hey.. who knows. maybe he will do us all a Favor and Resign..........

Oh yeah Romney's religion is a big problem for Romney with democratic liberal voters, because the liberal media mentions it, Ha you are preaching to the wrong choir Chris. Republican organizations are politically plugged into Christianity like a life support machine, you got to convince them first and worry about the liberals later.

I wouldn't hold your breath, waiting for all those lily-whites to vote for Cain, regardless of whether he's singing their song or not. That would be real hard for too many of them to swallow. Trust me on that. But that's their choice, looks like. Romney with his magic underwear, baptizing the dead and ruling planets in the after-life religion (coupled with the fact that the man looks like a dime-store mannequin or Ken doll and should give everyone the creeps; there's not a thing genuine about that guy). So, we've got the Mormon, Cain and his 9-9-9 or Perry who looks like he needs to call 911. Things are going nicely.

:) Have a nice day, all. Wow. They're suspending people for referring to each other as idiots now. Does everything have to be so serious?

If Romney and Perry keep attacking each other, Cain could come out as the winner. They need to attack all of their opponents who are threats. The idea isn't just to take votes away from the other front winner. It's to gain votes from both the other front runner and from all the others in the running.

Whoever figures that out first (Romney or Perry) will end up as the winner. If neither does, then Cain will be it.

Romney blowing in the wind. If you disagree with him today, there's a good chance you'll agree with him tomorrow, when he does a 180. But then the following day, you might disagree again when he comes full circle.

One R.I.N.O. endorsing another will not do the job for Romney. The Republican Party establishment needs to go away since they helped cause this debt crisis under W. Bush, and which Obama has continued. It's time the Tea Party takes charge, since they're the only ones with the guts to reverse socialism that Obama has created. Yes, it's time for HERMAN CAIN!

Socialism is the collective means by government to control the production and distribution of goods. In Obama's case he took over two auto companies, and Obamacare is the government takeover of a seventh of the U.S. economy. Granted, the government's been too much involved in medicine anyway, but the fact that businesses will be fined thousands of more dollars for providing their workers healthcare, and that fact that insurance companies must provide more coverage to people--raising premiums for everyone--just goes to show that Obama and the Democratic Party is socialist. Obamacare is ultimately intended to force people to take government healthcare by the back door, since the front door, single-payer option was impassible in Congress.

Yes , The Republican establishment needs to go away (FAR AWAY),since they helped cause this debt crisis under W.Bush, and which Obama has HAD to straighten out the MESS. Its time the Tea Party takes charge, like their "namesakes" and grabs their "axes", (if they've GUTS enough), to "AX THE TAX CODE", with its $1.1 TRILLION in "breaks", Plus allowing 45% of taxpayers to PAY NOTHING.
