Ron Paul wins Values Voter straw poll

By NBC's Carrie Dann

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Ron Paul, a favorite of libertarian-leaning Republicans and young activists, has won another straw poll.

Paul received 37 percent of the vote in the Values Voter Summit straw poll Saturday at the annual gathering of conservative religious voters in Washington.

Pizza magnate Herman Cain, who gave a rousing speech at the confab yesterday, came in second with 23 percent. Former Sen. Rick Santorum, who - along with his family - spent additional hours milling around the conference grounds to speak one-on-one with voters, won 16 percent.

Tied at fourth place were Gov. Rick Perry and Rep. Michele Bachmann, who each received eight percent of the vote.

Gov. Mitt Romney, the presumed national frontrunner in the race whose Mormon faith had been conspicuously raised by two of the event's evangelical speakers, came in fifth at four percent of the vote.

Straw pollers also asked attendees at the conference who they favor as their eventual nominee's vice presidential pick. The top four in that category were: Bachmann, Cain, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and Santorum.

Paul should be put out to Pasture, the guy is just to old. Also I think he has Alzheimer's ??????????? The comments on fox trash about Al-Awlaki was sickening, that was it for me with Ron. That will be Paul's down fall.

This ought to show how out of touch "values voters" are. Good grief. When will people figure out how absurd these right-wing "straw poll" voters are? Have they ever come close to picking someone who has a snowball's chance in hell of being acceptable to the middle-of-the-road voter?

These polls are pointless.

The simple truth of the matter is every poll a different Republican nominee wins. Why? Because none of them have what it takes to effectively lead a country. I have to give respect to Christie. He at least looked at himself and said that he wasn't ready to be president. He's at least grounded in reality. Sadly, of the lot of them that makes him the most qualified. At least he realizes he is not qualified.

I'd say at this point it is 60-70% likely that I will be voting for Obama in 2012 simply because the Republican party can't put up a real option. I can vote for the guy that everyone is disappointed in as a president or for someone that no one cares about to be president. We should not be electing the best of bad choices here people.

Our country is just in a bad state.

Spot on Kent --- Obama will very likely win -- not because the people are so thrilled with him but because the Republican nominee is likely to be a total nut case. In reminds me on 1972 in reverse. People weren't all that excited over Nixon but the the Democrats shifted so far left that Nixon carried 49 states. I doubt Obama will carry as many states as he did last time but he will enough to win because the Republicans have become the party of radical, fanatical, right wing crazies.

It's kinda fun just standing back and watching the pubs destroys themselves. And since the tea baggers can't find a candidate it's only going to get uglier in the next few months.

Romney came in FIFTH yet the media still calls him the FRONT RUNNER. LOL. They are sticking a pole into him and raising him high so that everybody can see him.

    Ron Paul, 2012. Enough said.

He's not "unelectable" if we all vote for him. You think "the corporations" would overturn a popular vote? Maybe. But, I don't think that would go well for them if they tried it at this particular point in history. Of course, it would have helped if our SCOTUS hadn't ruled that corporations are individuals. . . so, maybe when the revolution begins we should start there and not with Wall Street.

What will destroy the country is government spending. And devaluing YOUR dollar. And getting us into more war and debt.

Having a government that is bound by the constitution is only going to STRENGTHEN OUR COUNTRY!

WHY DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GOVERNMENT FOLLOWING THE LAW? If you have to follow the law, THEY should have to!

The biggest problem with Ron Paul haters is their lack of info. He is not against anything, he simply believes it is up to the individual states to make their own laws, not be ruled by washington. He is not against the EPA, or Civil Rights act, or alot of other things, He simply believes it is up to the states to handle it how they see fit.

But the state's don't handle it and then it becomes an interstate problem.

Relying on the responsibility of people to do the right thing will get you nowhere. Hard to staff and fund a military, build an interstate highway system, or control our borders when you have every state deciding to do their own thing. On the personal level, I don't believe in allowing other drivers to dictate the limits of the amount of alcohol or drugs they can intake before they climb behind a wheel of a car or truck and drive on the same road I'm on, or cross over the state line while driving. I don't trust them to have auto or health insurance, either, without a requirement that they do so.

In Ron Paul's world everyone is an "upstanding citizen" and owns a gun. People are left to die in the streets if they cannot afford medical insurance, or if theirs gets cancelled. That's not the kind of country that I want to live in. Most people would agree. At 77, Ron Paul has a greater chance of kicking the bucket before the next election than he does of being President.

So, who does that leave us with? Michele Bachmann??? LOL. We went the cute senile old guy route with Reagan and that's what started us on the whole cut taxes, increase deficits kick. No more whacky curmudgeons....

The so-called front runners -- texass LUCIFER perry and elitist mormon romney, have not even come close to winning any of the straw polls.

Now, how is that when t-GOPer "front-runners" score nothing, win nothing, and still are called front-runners???

Every single one of the t-GOPer wannabes is a 100% two-faced, LOSER!!!

He doesnt oppose it!! Sure it was technically unconstitutional to have these programs - but he understand that people relay on them and wouldnt (and couldnt!) cut them overnight. Ron Paul isnt someone who would break the constitution to defend it.

He says it needs to be reformed from its current program. It is highly underfunded and if its not reformed it will not be there at all! Remember how obama says that if they didnt pass the budget he couldnt guarantee that people will get there checks?

Can you imagine the chaos if all of a sudden the checks stop coming? They both need to be reformed along with welfare, foreign aid, the defense budget.....bla bla bla....basically everything that comes out of washington!

@ Patriotic American U.S.A. I have just read your last few posts and have concluded that you indeed are insane. I wonder how many government programs you are relying on? Let me guess, you're on SSI because you "hurt your back" and can't work anymore, food-stamps, HEAP, HUD, WIC, and I bet you get a free cell phone from the taxpayers. Is there anything I missed that we the taxpayers are providing for you???

Besides Ron Paul's whacky program for legalizing drugs, including heroin and crack cocaine, Ron Paul sets himself up as being the "grass roots" candidate, not beholden to corporate money. Yet a glance at his top 100 contributors yields virtually all corporate entities, mostly in the health care field, but surprisingly, given Ron's isolationsist views, quite a few in defense related industries, like Boeing and Northrup Drummond. And, then there's the John Birch Society.....one of the founding members of which is Fred Koch, of Koch Industries. Many contributors hide under the cover of non-offensive sounding PACs.

Why does the imbecilic party that boos active duty soldiers think that terrorists now will follow the rules of combat?

Someone commented on page 1 about Feisty not having the first post. Not sure about that, but the comment collapsing is sure present and in force. Seriously, collapsing comments for no other reason that they support Ron Paul?

As for Mr. Paul, you know things are bad when the sentiment changes from total nut job to he couldn't do any worse (just my general observation). I give him props (though not my vote) for staying true to his ideology. He's certainly no flip flopper even when it is obvious that softening some of his positions would garner support and votes.

I do wonder what would happen if he were elected President. For example, there was a stark contrast between Mr. Obama's views on Gitmo and what he was actually able to accomplish with the place. Ideology versus reality would be very interesting with Mr. Paul as President.

Have you ever seen the "pro Obama" people collapse comments they do not like believe me they do it all the time.

I found an interview of Ron by the Christianity Today folks that is pretty good. I really like his answers about evolution and religion:

Go Ron, the bigots don't like this! That's why they are attempting to keep you under cover and do not say anything about you in the media. They hate their lives and eat their hearts out when someone like you wins or someone who can do good wins. That is the reason why they loved Bush because he made them fell better showing the racists how small their lives actually is.

                      Go RON

Herman Cain is working for the Romney camp.

They are using Cain as an excuse to ignore Ron Paul

Cain is a Bankster Corporatist shill and the best liar of them all.

His 9-9-9 Plan would soak the poor.

Cain is the GOP establishment's decoy, to suck attention and votes away from the only real candidate for change.

Had he not been set up for this ambush, Ron Paul could have won 60% of the votes, something the Wall Street owned Republicans fear more than a second term by Obama.

In 2012, Ron Paul is the Right Call !
