“President Obama challenged Republican lawmakers Thursday to pass his jobs package and deny him a key plank in his campaign platform: running against a ‘do-nothing Congress,’” The Hill writes.
The New York Times on Obama’s news conference yesterday: “In perhaps his most sober remarks about the economy this year, President Obama on Thursday described the weakening economy as ‘an emergency” and made the case for his jobs bill as “an insurance policy against a possible double-dip recession.’”
“House Speaker John Boehner yesterday ripped President Obama for ‘throwing in the towel’ on fixing the economy and spending all his time campaigning,” the New York Post reports. Boehner said, “Nothing has disappointed me more than what’s happened over the last five weeks, to watch the president of the United States give up on governing, give up on leading, and spend full time campaigning. All year, I’ve reached out to the president. Yet the president, some 14 months before the election, throws in the towel ... We’re legislating; he’s campaigning.”

"We’re legislating; he’s campaigning.”
It true he's campaigning and he's campaigning against a do nothing congress, Mr. Boehner. what legislative success can this congress lay claim to? The only legislative success of this congress has achieved is for Grover Norquist and not the people.
If this congress is honestly legislating, why is the congress approval rating a record low 11%.......hellooooo. What have you done the people lately? Where are the jobs?
Government does not create private sector jobs.
The private sector doesn't seem to be creating private sector jobs either.
We need to boost the public sector by fixing our crumbling infrastructure, keep teachers, firefighters, police etc... employed and allow for their growth. This in turn puts money back into the economy where, yes, wait for it... increases demand for the private sector's products and services.
That demand creates those private sector jobs. Again, as we all know from more than the past decade, tax cuts and loopholes to the rich only gives the rich bigger bank accounts, it doesn't trickle down to anyone.
A little common sense goes along way MRWSR. Think it through. The government creates the atmosphere to create those private sector jobs.
Tom,
I'm a very well paid public sector employee with fantastic benefits.
I always shop at Wall Mart. Always.
If government does not create private sector jobs, why is Congress listening to corporate 'job-creators" screaming they need more tax cuts to create jobs?
Tom,
They can build market and consumer confidence. Tax increases during a double dip ression will not bring this hope. Looming regulations and too many health care quetions kill growth. Private sector jobs are growing slowly, but still at 9.1% unemployment. They need to leave the private sector allone, get off the tax kick and let these people do work and create jobs.
MRSWR,
When did it become a double-dip recession... I know you repubs are wishing because you think it would be the end of Obama's presidency...
MRWSR. If you leave the private sector alone, you leave it alone. You do not "incentivize" parts of it by offering counterintuitive tax cuts or by luring businesses to a state with special rates that businesses already there don't get. If people who create jobs want certainty, they are living in the wrong century. Can anyone be "certain" that we won't have another terrorist attack or tsunami or government overthrow somewhere in the world? We can be certain that we will always need health care....so companies should learn to accept that.
It is a do nothing Senate. The House has sent many bills to them. Like the bills or not they have had proposals. They did do work. The senate did nothing. Obama can only run against the senate, to much proof to try to blame the house.
Yea, like bills to end Medicare and keep the status quo favoring the rich, give me a break.
They've passed bi-partisan bills that would hurt 98% of us if somehow they became law.
Are you in that top 2% of income earners, I live comfortably, but I wouldn't say I'm in that 2% but if I was, I don't think I'd have a problem with investing 5% of my income for the sake of keeping my country great.
Tom,
Your are ranting aobut stuff that i did not bring up or show favor for or against.
MRWSR,
Tom hasn't taken his morning meds yet.
MRWSR,
Do understand that in an economy, you have the government, private sector and public. For you to achieve a good economy, these groups must be spending. Government will be spending on infrastructures, military etc, companies will produce goods & services while creating jobs and the working public will have that purchasing power to spend which creates demand for more goods and services.
Presently, the private sector and the public commerce activities are not doing much to aid this ailing economy and if left like that with government not stepping in, the economy collapses. Do you realize that?
You said the House has passed many bills (in your words: "They did do the work. The Senate did nothing").
The reason the Senate hasn't acted on them is because the bills the House are passing are crap.
They only push an agenda that will stifle growth, both in the private sector and the public sector.
Their agenda is to make the country fail and then try to blame the president for it.
This is the most unproductive House in many many years simply because the bills they're pushing through with only GOP and Tea Party support doesn't accomplish anything substantial to actually address the problems the country as a whole is facing.
Where is there jobs bill, isn't that the mandate they received from 2010? So far it's been nothing.
Tom,
If the Bills are "crap" as you say, shouldnt the Senate at least vote on them, and vote them down? They refuse to act, as a good protion of these bills are not crap, and are economy related. Their votes against them could hurt them in thier next election. So they just "do nothing"
I think we know where the "do nothing" portion of the Congress is.
ABO 2012 (and every Senate Dem as well)
Which economy related bill are you touting? Their budget bill? Yea, cut more spending, kill Medicare, keep the failed policies that Bush put in place. I guess you're right, that one is definitely economy related. The problem is it makes things worse.
We need solutions from them, not just ideology that's been proven to not work over and over again. It's the definition of insanity.
No! Mr Boehner you have been playing games. President Obama came to you several times to work out a deal, but you and the Tea-Baggers have done everything to fight against him. Where is your Jobs Plan? You and the Tea-Baggers have been in power in the House for several months, and I have not seen one jobs bill come up! President please continue to rally the people! We have your Back!!
A weak economy improves Republican chances in 2012, which is why the Republican Congress refuses to pass the President's Jobs BIll. It's been the same story since President Obama took office, Republicans have been doing everything they could to put the brakes on recovery. Republicans see recovery as benefiting the President, and defeating him is their number one priority.
What about reid, why don't speak of him. You know the republicans don't like, quit acting suprised. Reid could not get enough dem votes. Had to add more taxes on it, still does not have dem votes. It is a bi-partisan vote agianst it.
True,
Harry Reid has been sent seven jobs bills by the Republican led House, and has tabled every one. Not even any discussion on these bills in the Senate.
This is all due to the Great Obstructionist, Harry (Whorehouse) Reid. The one man Federal disaster.
And Obama blames the Republicans?? Give us a break Barrack baby.
Can you provide the list of their "seven jobs bills" please?

My question is, what is all this doing in the budget in the first place?
Who in their right minds would believe anything that Boehner has to say especially when the record shows that he's lying? This is a "do nothing Congress". That's exactly what the baggers have intended to be all along. They think that by doing nothing to address the country's problems that it'll hurt the president. They forgot that not all Americans are stupid nor listen to fake news.
Chris,
What record says Boehner is lying? You have proof? How many Bills has the House sent to the Senate for Reid to shelve? It is a "do nothing Senate", not a do nothing Congress.
Boehner seems snug, dont he? That is because he knows the facts, and will bring them forward in a timely fashion to crush this talking point. He is a calculating individual and knows it is better to let BHO rant for a while then pull the facts out. BHO has never been good with facts.
They forgot that not all Americans are stupid nor listen to fake news
I believe they are counting on it, and you are proving them right. The real facts point out the House has sent a mountian of legislation to the Senate, to have them sit on it and not act. At some point the American people will become aware of this. They should be aware already, if they had a desire to find facts and not listen to "fake news"
ABO 2012
This Congress has sent bills to the Senate, like bills to restrict women's reproductive rights, there has been plenty of those. Bills to restrict implementation of EPA regualtions, but really no jobs bills. If we put what Obama has done side by side w/ Boehner is doing its pretty obvious what the Repubs are doing
Democrats are abondoning ship, and there are not enough lifeboats.
must be quite a few
Would you please list for those of us unaware of any?
I have what seems like an obvious question for members of the GOP/TP and no one in the Media as asked it yet and that is...
If you claims raising taxes will harm job creations - and yet no taxes has been raised?
Where are the jobs based on that claim?
Republicans instantly rejects tax increases or the shutting down of loops holes for Corporations and their reason is it will hurt the Job creators ability to hire... What? These idiots thinks the VOTERS of America are really that stupid.
What a crock of crap - Republicans Congress!!! GOD DAMINT stop the BULLLLL SH___TTTT or we make sure every VOTER understand how much trickery and how much you think Americans in your districts are the dumbest bunch of MORAN ever ... and trust me, Republicans or NOT they won't like it!!!
Also, MEDIA don't get it twisted ... we love President Obama and our discontent is certainly not pointed at him.
He's a polictian and we all understand that...but at least he cares about the American people and has made an efforts to do things that he feels benefits the majority of Americans.
Something - NO ONE and I dare anyone to prove otherwise... can be said about the Republicans in Congress.
Notice how the Republicans will cut everything and anything that helps ordinary Americans - but dare to fix tax loop holes or set fair tax standards for Corporations.
TRUTH- not Crap
Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
Even Barack Obama said in 2009 that it was a bad idea to raise taxes during a recession. He said it removes much need capital from the private economy. This is basic Economics 101. Tell any businessman you are going to take more money in taxes from him, but by the way, we also want you to hire more new employees. UBS published a survey of 1,000 US business owners 60 days ago. They asked them what was hampering them from hiring more people. Two answers came back overwhelmingly. First, the uncertainty over Obamacare which they believe will drive up the cost of health care. Secondly, the cost of new regulations and taxes and what they will do to business costs.
Solider,
Please make your sign for the "occupy wall street " riots say, " I hate" or "I want some of that money".
Right Ray,
And Republicans have known all along what the problems are. This is why they are campaigning to dump Obamacare, get rid of the new stifling regulations and taxes coming out of the clueless Obama administration.
Watch the surge in hiring once Obama makes his concession speech.
Soldier,
The reason the jobs arent here is in a large part due to the tax yet to be imposed. The OBAMACARE fiasco is hanging over the head of every business in the US and has them paralysed. His constand ranting and raving and calling for the demonization and further taxing of business and job creators hangs over their head.
Has there been a declaration that this fight is over and that they will not face tax increases?
Governement has become an adversary of business and they are waiting for the next shoe to fall. Really, if you were in their shoes hearing this crap every day, would you rush out and hire anyone? They know the tax structure has not changed .... YET.
They will hire and the jobs will come. Probably around November 7 2012 when the impediment to their business model is gone.
You may love BHO all you want, but you dont speak for America as a whole or majority, so lay off the WE stuff. I dont want to be a part of your WE. The majority of Americans think he is doing a poor job by almost every poll out there. This number is hardening every day. I will stick with my group of we the majority.
Notice how the Republicans will cut everything and anything that helps ordinary Americans - but dare to fix tax loop holes or set fair tax standards for Corporations.
Did you also notice this is the reason the companies are not hiring? Did you notice that all these programs have a price tag and we are putting them all on credit? Arizonatime has a nice list of things we put on credit to pay for, which we could do without. These are the kinds of things you libbies keep adding with no method to pay for other than take it form the rich guys, who by the way already pay darn near all the taxes collected in US. Enough is enough. If you read this list, a lot of the items benefit people who pay no tax at all. I am tired of robbing the successfull to pay for programs they receive no benefit from and are nice, but not needed. even given the loopholes and the tax structure as it is, the top 10% of wage earners pay 70% of the taxes collected. If that is the case, shouldnt the majority of governement programs favor them AS THEY PAY FOR THEM??? But no, we keep adding programs that they receive no benefit from that we put on credit. And then attempt to get more money from them to "pay for these programs" when in fact the added revenue they ask for would not even come close to paying for them. We would still spiral down the debt hole with added revenue as we spend more and more on credit. Last count was 40 cents on every dollar spent?
Time to wake up, or at least time to tax the poor as well. Eliminate the earned income credit, eliminate the percentage of Americansa which pay no taxes. After all, the programs are disproportionately favoring them, so they should pay something, shouldn't they?
But you libbies dont want to hear that. So I say cut them all.
Love BHO all you want, but leave me out of it. I HATE him and his party.
ABO 2012
Edward--we have the lowest tax rates in our history! This has been going on for 30 years--where are all the jobs the Republicans have promised would be created? For the first time in my life I was out of a job for a whole year--I was lucky and since back to work! If tax cuts produce jobs, I didn't see it and neither do many. Based on these observations, there will be no "surge of hiring once Obama makes his concession speech!" There will be more of the same, if not worse. "Trickle down" economics is a failure--we have tried it for 30 years. If you keep doing the same thing over and over, you keep getting what you got! When do you guys ever learn, and why should you take the rest of us with you? Go Occupy Wall Street! Let's throw the TPGOP jerks and their corporate masters out!
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
please tell me, edward, which regulations are 'stifling' that we need to get rid of and which are necessary?
Gee, if President Obama says it then I must be true!! Unfortunately, from looking at everything he has passed and predicted, not much has turn out to be true. This is simply another case. The President has been playing this class warfare, do nothing Congress. But how are his approval ratings being affected by this course of attacks? Obama's job approval ratings are still very bad. An approval of 40% or less going into a re-election is very bad. If this was working, you would see some sign of job approval increase
My gosh, I can smell the BS Johnny Boy all the way from here in Dallas!
If you a liberal, check your diaper!!
not a liberal but I can sure smell BS, I am just fed up with the do nothing Congress letting America tank while they go after the President. I wish I could get $174 K a year for life and lifetime free government entitlements like the Congress does and not do my job like them. If it looks like it and smells like it then it is BS...
Robert,
Be carefull, you are starting to sound like you want another handout from the government....
They dont have to go after the president, he is standing in traffic.
You need to join a union. Then you could not do your job and get paid for it. I agree with Ray, look behind you.

According to House memebers:
“When you pass bill after bill after bill and it goes to the Senate and it gets tabled, won’t be discussed, won’t be amended — well, there’s another chamber there that’s not doing anything,”
The imperical evidence is the House continues to stack up bills at the Dem controlled Senate for them to act on. Reid shelves them. And the Senate, whose job it is to pass a budget, hasnt even done that for years. They are the bottleneck and the reason nothing is getting done.
There is plenty on blame for inaction and a do nothing Congress. It just all lies at the Senate level. The GOP is just waiting for this to become a campaign point so they can shoot it down with imperical numbers data which is part of public record and not able to be disputed. BHO will either have to campaign against his own party members (which he very well may do in a lame attempt to save his own hide) or attempt to have the MSM help hide the facts as always. Either way, I believe the truth comes out and burns him.
Good Luck Obozo.
ABO 2012
the problem with the Bills stacking up and Reid killing them is that they are loaded with Poison Pills. GOTP ideological legislation. I am not a liberal but I have read some of the Bills and they tack on so much extra stuff all for one parties benefit. I would not pass them either.
It's like where I live, there is a creek that floods a couple of times a year. The city council votes every year to buy the houses around this creek and to modify the creek to help stop the flooding. Every time they put it on the ballot they add all of this entertainment district crap on top of it. We need the creek situation taken care of but they keep trying to get their pet projects passed on with it. We have voted it down for 8 years. Finally last year they put the creek issue on the ballot by itself, it passed! Same thing!
Dems yell at Republicans in the House, "Where is your jobs plan?" Meanwhile the jobs bills are stacked up in the Democratic Senate. By the way, what has the Democratic Senate done this year. They haven't even started on a 2012 budget which the House has already passed. So when the President says where is the jobs plan, we will take it he is talking to the Senate. By the way Mr. President, the CBO did score the domestic gas and oil exploration bill. Industry economic analysts said the million would create over 3 million jobs in a couple of years. The CBO scored it at 2.6 million jobs minimum. But I guess those don't count because they aren't those "reasonable respected" Democratic economists. Those same economists who said the first stimulus saved or created 2 million new jobs but the Bureau of Labor Statistics said we lost a net 2.4 million jobs.
Boehner said, “Nothing has disappointed me more than what’s happened over the last five weeks, to watch the president of the United States give up on governing, give up on leading, and spend full time campaigning.
Translation: Nothing has disappointed me more than what’s happened over the last five weeks, nothing disappoints me more than the presidents ability to turn our Waterloo strategy around on us and gain 15 points in a recent ABC poll, and the fact that we really can't defend ourselves because the fact is we have done nothing constructive ourselves. It is very disappointing to see the President beat our brains out weekly with our own inability to effectively legislate, and our long failed policy of cutting taxes and regulations in order to spur growth where there is no demand. It is very disappointing to think we will very likely fail at the only thing we ever wanted to accomplish, and that president Obama will be re-elected, because we can't help ourselves, because we are not allowed to help him (we even signed pledges saying we would never do what reasonable people know has to be done), and therefore we can't help the American people. It feels bad John when you are held to your own standards and don't measure up, it's more than disappointing it is downright embarrassing isn't it. Well John when you say you are disappointed I know you are buddy, at least this time republicans won't have their heads handed to them by a community organizer, at least this time you will have been beaten by yourselves, and an incumbent CIC and POTUS, if that makes you feel a little better, I hope you feel better John because I hate to see a grown man whine and cry.
Nice pipe dream.
Did you forget to mention that the title of the Washington Post article for the poll was "Obama job approval rating reaches all time low" You also did not mention that CBS also found Obama had a job approval rating of 41% with a disapproval rating of 54%. But the key number is for the independents. It showed independents have a 38% approval with a disapproval rating of 56%. Obama needs between 60% and 70% of all independents as he had in 2008. Nice try. All of the President's approval ratings are sinking into the sunset.
Forrest,
You better wake up soon, because this dream you are having turns into a nightmare for you in November 2012.
On second thought... keep sleeping....you still have some time.
ABO 2012
Did I mention his ratings beat Congress's by better than a 4 to 1 ratio, and it is widening every day, did you notice he gained some ground and republicans lost ground, and it is just getting started, if republicans don't nip this in the bud with some impressive spending on infrastructure and regulation and fair taxation of wall street, very soon, they will lose in 2012. Too many people are no longer buying the only two things republicans ever sell, and they don't have a salesman good enough to sell it to enough people.
ddsdsherm You prove my point with your ABO chant, if you thought the republicans had a decent candidate you would name the candidate of your choice, you don't, because you can't, because they suck, so you are down to anybody, which means nobody you have in the current republican field. When do we get to meet these republicans, Mr. Anybody, or Mr. Generic, you are the one dreaming, hell you are the one that has an imaginary candidate running against an incumbent president.
Forrest,
Did you notice he is not running for president versus Congress? Have you seen that you and others are lacking the facts on the holdup in Congress and who is to blame? Every day the message of Harry Reid and his do nothing Senate creeps back into to news. I keep hearing random acts of journalism (not here at MSN, as that would not happen) even from libbie sources. And while his numbers are better than Congress, they are not anywhere good enough to win an election.
If the GOP comes up with "impressive spending" then they become just like BHO and the race would be close. If they continue to block "impressive spending" then they win, as that is what we sent them there to do. You may like spending, but most do not.
He cant get above 50% numbers anywhere. Once the GOP field narrows down and "some other candidate" is not an option, the numbers will fall to the GOP candidate left standing. And as long as they are not named Obama, they will be favored. Heck, we could put Jimmy Carter on the GOP ticket and he would beat BHO. Because if the election were BHO versus a can of soup, the soup would win.
The GOP does not need a salesman. They are the alternative to BHO, and that will be good enough.
ABO 2012
Forrest,
I dont care who the candidate is for the GOP. I will vote for him/her/it regardless. Any candidate in our field right now is better than the current situation. And yes, I would vote for nutjob Paul if he was the man on the ticket. And he would still be better than BHO.
We dont need a decent candidate. Any one will do. As the vote wont be "For" anyone. The vote this time around will be "against" a sitting president for the majority of Americans.
ABO 2012
We have our opinions, and it won't be settled for a year, but I'll tell you the ABO is not going to work and I'll tell you why, because people are now spilling into the streets, all kinds of people, of all ages and backgrounds, and I don't see any of them calling for less taxes and less regulations on corporations or wall street. I don't see any body protesting to hurry up and enact more republican policies, they may have various reasons but that is never one of them.
The Quote of the Decade:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign
of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills.
It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign
countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's
debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.'
Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children
and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Funny how you can research every politician and find stuff, I know most people I know say stuff but sometimes have to adapt to a change or situation that causes them to change their mind, don't you? I think more than any, a President has to be able to adapt to a changing world.
Nice try Robert.
MRWSR.
Thanks! I thought the truth would be a good place to start a discussion.
Every tea people GOP republican post on this thread is the same, they just rearrange the words. Do you tea people GOP republicans have any thoughts of your own?
Mo - an original thought means immediate excommunication from the cabal.
Yep,
Leave the american people alone, let them strive for whatever they want, let them fail, let them recover. Get out of my wallet and let us get on with doing business.
Mo,
Do you Libbies have any thoughts other than it is always someone elses fault? Or someone else's responsibility to pay for it?
ABO 2012
Everything the president said yesterday was a perfect bullseye and he certainly will have no problem getting Re-elected. Regardless of those loosely gathered polls that say otherwise which are probably gathered by a GOP.
MRWSR - get out of your wallet? Are you freaking kidding? LOL that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard you say.
You say a lot of dumb stuff and I just laugh...but this, takes the cake.
Wall Street and it's cronies have stole from the pockets of every single American...under the umbrella of investments, scandals, hedge fund management, etc ...
Our Government bailed them out with Trillions of tax dollars and they did nothing with it except lace investors pockets and give to Wall Streets cronies.
That's what the Protest Movement is about ... Wall Street stealing our money from out of our pockets and the GOP/TP are helping them do it!!!
TRUTH - not CRAP
Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
Soldier,
I am responsible for my family and my business. I have group coverage for my workers. I cut my salary to help cover some of the monthly cost that has increased for them since obamacare was brought into play. Nobody can tell me what will happen next year. Would go through the regulations that have started, not just with obamacare, but with banking, but know you won't listen. I pay more through hidden fee's, (no one has the balls to call taxes), than ever. It is coming out of my pocket. Mine sir. I am only speaking for me. I am telling the truth. You are sad and will never pull your head out of the socialst butt that is in the white house.
Soldier,
MRWSR is referencing paying taxes, probably a process you are unfamiliar with. The Goverment gets into his wallet and removes part of his wealth to pay for the programs you seem to enjoy so much.
How did Wall Street steal from you? Were you forced by the Government to invest with them? How did their scandals affect you? BHO has many on his staff from Goldman Sachs (you may have heard of them).
That is the difference. MRWSR has no choice but to hand over his money. You have a choice whether to lose money on wall street or aprticipate in its games of chance.
And BHO was all for bailouts. Most of the true conservatives were against it, as I was. It is a free market system, and government involvement is wrong. They should not have been bailed out as this goes against free markets. GM and Chrysler as well should have suffered the fate that they made for themselves. Maybe then they could have offloaded the burden of the Unions which bankrupted them and came out of bankruptcy with a chance. The bailout at our expense to save the unions and keep them in business was wrong, and I am sure they will back in the same boat again eventually. Or they will shift manufacturing to outside US facilities to stay afloat, as they cannot produce under the unions.
The Protest movement is all about jealousy and anti capitalism. This country was founded on capitalism and it is what has made us great.
Now it is something to Protest? Maybe for the Communists Party.... The idea of these protests makes me sick. I am glad it is becoming the poster child of your party, as it screams of the pety jealousy that your party has come to represent.

So, MRWSR, am I to assume by your statement "...monthly cost that has increased for them since obamacare..." that your insurance premiums weren't increasing annually before the health care bill was signed? If that is the case, can I get my HR director in touch with you?
Or, better yet, I apparently need to fire my benefits manager for piss-poor performance. We haven't gone a year without having a premium increase.
Rick,
Blue cross/Blue shield of Texas has gone up $117 in the last two years. Up to $355 now. I am covering that difference for those who work for me.
MRWSR - I do appreicate honest dialogue and hard working Americans.
But I am speaking for the people who are being taking advantage of - Americans that don't own business and are working hard to make an honest living- it's the high cost of living that is affecting everyone.
Republicans are bent on doing all they can to help the wealthiest 1% and I would venure to say that you probably is not even in that percentage...so you should become a Democrat and fight with U.S..
Healthcare cost has been going up for decades ... it just didn't start under President Obama.
Most of it's just greed anyway - so if you have problems with the cost of healthcare...talk to the Insurance Companies or the Republicans in Congress...
Like Oil Companies - they make up and use any excuse possible to raise prices ... It all stems back to Wall Street and greed.
TRUTH - no CRAP
Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
dsdshern - who died and made you important?
You are clueless...please don't talk to me. I dislike ignorant Republicans.
TRUTH - not CRAP
