Obama bus tour to head to North Carolina, Virginia

A White House official confirms that the president will make his way through North Carolina and Virginia on a three-day bus tour later this month. It's scheduled for October 17-19.

AP reported and the official confirms: “The trip will be similar to a three-day bus tour through Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois the president went on in August. Obama is intent on keeping up the pressure on Congress over his jobs proposal, a message the White House believes can resonate with the public, and he often picks states that could be important for his 2012 re-election chances. North Carolina and Virginia are both traditionally Republican states that Obama won in 2008.”

Obama was the first Democrat to win Virginia since 1964 and the first to win North Carolina since 1976. But his job approval has declined considerably in those states since he was elected.

Obama appoints Shakira to Hispanic education commission
In other news, President Obama appointed Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, otherwise known simply as Shakira, to his “President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

“In addition to her career in music, Ms. Mebarak Ripoll has been involved in a number of global educational efforts,” the White House said in a press release. “She founded the Barefoot Foundation in 1995, which operates schools and educational projects in Colombia, South Africa, and Haiti, feeding and educating approximately 6,000 children.  In 2010, she collaborated with the World Bank and the Barefoot Foundation to establish an initiative that distributes educational and developmental programs for children across Latin America.  In 2008, Ms. Mebarak Ripoll served as the Honorary Chair of the Global Campaign for Education's Global Action Week.  In 2005, she became a founding member of Latin America in Solidarity Action, a coalition of artists and business leaders seeking to promote integrated early childhood public policies.  Ms. Mebarak Ripoll became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund in 2003, where she promotes the expansion and improvement of comprehensive early childhood care and education across the world.”

Virginia & North Carolina.

President Obama won't win either of those in 2012.

I'm taking bets.

Anyone?

Let's get us all "on the record", shall we?

Joseph,

In an interview recently, President Carter described what campaigns were like for him. The American people back then simply ticked a box saying they agreed to pay $3 dollars towards the Presidential campaign (optional). Three dollars only. That's all.

President Carter said he did not have to raise any money to campaign and could focus on his job as President. He marveled and shook his head at how much work this President has to all in one day and wondered what it might be like. These days, President Obama has to campaign. So did Bush.

President Bush also traveled around the country on a campaign bus tour.

But even Bush did not have to deal with the $millions/$billions poured in from secret, untraceable sources (eg Rove's group says $260million) as happened for the first time in 2010. It started with Scott Brown's MA election, and went on from there. Bush did not have to deal with all that money going into attack ads and anything-goes. That is brand new in US history and brand new for a President, due to the Supreme Court ruling on 'Citizen's United".

A President has never had so much to do in US history. And all the while blocked from doing his job, unsupported every step of the way in the worst recession since the great recession. Add to that a global economic recession. By their own admission, the number 1 priority of Republican Congressionals is to stop President Obama from growing the economy and this includes blocking him from putting people back to work.

GOP leadership is useless, without ethics and has been so from day one of the Presidents tenure. And they brag about it to the Press as often as possible.

Speaking of getting "on the record," MB, how 'bout you getting on the record with whom you are supporting as an alternative. NO isn't on the ballot, neither is ABO. Ron Paul's supporters are proud enough of their choice to cheer him by name. Lately, some Cain supporters have followed suit. Its so much easier to just criticise others' choices than to actually make one. I know its early and the GOP has such a "wealth" of options to choose from. Could you at least let us know if any have been eliminated from your consideration? Bachman still in the running? Roemer? Ready to donate, make calls, knock on doors for Mitt Romney? Perfectly comfortable w/ Rick Perry in charge?

Excellent post Backhouse. I brought this up before with little interest in return. Wouldn't it be nice if conservatives would take interest in how money corrupts the political process instead of getting their panties in a knot about the bus?

I've posted my preferred ticket repeatedly, marv.

You must have missed it, somehow.

Again:

Romney/Rubio 2012.

Your turn.

On the record, marv:

Does President Obama win Virginia and North Carolina in 2012?

He won't win either one.

True, you too.

The shell of this bus was made in Canada. The interior made in the US ~ and the details finished off by Secret Service. The bus is Secret Service's decision and they decided to stop renting to save money, as they had to keep custom building and tearing down to return the rental.

The Republican nominee will use a duplicate bus for their own campaign.

I have all the details, including on President Bush's bus.

President Obama won't win either of those in 2012.

I'm taking bets.

Anyone?

I'll take the bet.

If you win, you buy the pizza. If I win, you buy the pizza.

Or wait. If I win, I'll buy.

That's how confident I am. ;-)

California Tom - Why do you post "Obama 2012" every day and without mentioning his trusty sidekick Joe Biden? Wouldn't a Obama/Biden 2012 be more appropriate and respectful of the Vice-President's contributions to President Obama efforts to date here especially when considering that Joe Biden is on the "ticket" and is literally only a heartbeat away from the POTUS?

What a shock.

IR, Because they are Obama and Biden ~ on sunny days. On rainy days you might want to write Obama-Biden, or possibly Obama--Biden, but probably not as it takes too much fiddling aboot on the keyboard. But you never know, it might be worth the effort and at least other people would feel the (sunny/rainy) but I digress, you get the idea.

On the other hand, if you like to play around with UPPER and lower case, you one could try ObAmA--bIdEn. The trouble with that is it doesn't look modern enough and you can't trust people who use those kinds of cheap attention-getting methods. Better to stick with something tried and true, as long as it is not every OTHER Wednesday and then it is just all hell broke loose with the kapitalls flying every which way.

Anyway, my sense is you are the kind of person who likes to get into the important nitty gritty details of important stuff and I have spent a pleasant and happy time setting this all down for posterity.

No one is going to touch that bet unless you offer some fairly hefty odds.

Heck, even at 100 to 1 doubt I would touch it.

Obama doesn't have a chance, he is toast! He will go down in history only as the guy who finished Jimmy Carter's second term! Hopefully the country will heal from his actions!

Do you think the country has finally learned a lesson? Don't elect a liberal academic's to any political office, especially POTUS!

Navy: A President has never had so much to do in US history.

    Obama's time management plan:

    Campaign - 35% of Obama's time

    Fund Raise - 42% of Obama's time

Figure out how to get billions to his political contributors Green Energy companies - 12% of Obama's time

    Make Michelle's travel arrangements on Travelocity.com - 10.73% of Obama's time

Work on solving the problems of the country - 0.27% of Obama's time

Cue the whining about the expensive bus that the Secret Service bought for these bus tours (forgetting the fact that it is intended for security and that the Republican candidate will have a similar bus).

Joseph, The left already has a leftist version of the Tea party. It is called the Socialist Party. Based on some of the protesters comments, there seem to be plenty of card carrying Socialists there.
