“President Obama on Tuesday combined fund-raising and campaigning for his jobs bill in the home state of the Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry and the Congressional district of a House Republican leader, and he did not shy from telling donors that they and Texas’ oil companies should pay more taxes for the nation’s good,” the New York Times says. “At Eastfield College in Mesquite, just east of Dallas, Mr. Obama almost shouted into the microphone, as if he were speaking to the Congressional leadership: ‘The time for gridlock and games is over. The time for action is now.’”
More: “The president, to laughter, said Republicans would resist his plans ‘if I took their party platform and proposed it’ because they say they do not want to give him a victory. ‘Give me a win? Give me a break,’ he said, bringing the enthusiastic and diverse crowd of more than 1,000 to its feet. ‘This is not about giving Democrats or Republicans a win. This is about giving people who are hurting a win. This is about giving small-business owners a win, and entrepreneurs a win, and students a win, and working families a win. This is about giving America a win.’”
“Seeking to borrow elements of the conservative movement’s [Tea Party] minimalist format and to mirror its ability to generate fervor around the issues, thousands of liberal activists gathered in the nation’s capital this week in a bid to launch their own political insurgency,” the Boston Globe writes. “The goal is not to undermine President Obama, they say. Instead, they want to give him the tools to win not only the election next year but also the ongoing ideological battle over what America should stand for in the 21st century. … Birkenstock-wearing students mingled with older professionals clad in sharp suits and ties. Gay and transgender rights advocates sat alongside members of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. Democratic Socialists talked politics with burly union members.”

The President always has the tools to win most of the American people agree with his JOBS bill!!!
I believe he IS a tool.
ABO 2012
This is a great time to be alive in America!!!!! Finally, we are able to address the inequities that exist in this country and are dragging us down. Why are failing CEO's awarded bonuses in the millions of dollars on being FIRED? Why is Warren Buffet's secretary taxed at a higher rate than he is? Why do the banks choose to gouge checking account holders for their profits instead of lending to promising small businesses? Why does today's CEO make 300 times as much as his average worker, while decades ago, a CEO only made three times as much?
His pitch was hammering Republicans for stall tatics and destroying America. While the senate dems rewrite provisions and add sur taxes. A vote was called and Reid said no. Can't make sense of why the left feels that this is the way. The president is nothing more than a cult leader for socialism and the systematic program of wealth distribution. The senate dems that don't want to vote right now, do not want to go on record as saying no to obama, so wait and turn it to the house. So when it comes back it won't be obama's master plan anymore and they can vote no and still stay in rank and file.
@MRWSR
Because Dems are no longer going to allow you to stuff all those little amendments into the bills and thwart the aim of the bills which are to bring back jobs. No more tax breaks inserted into it. No more stuffing the bills with taking away women's rights or gay rights denials or any of the other crap Reps stuff into everything. They like to say they believe in liberty, just not other people's liberties.
PASS THE JOBS BILL!!! PASS THE JOBS BILL!!! Get off your stupid azzes and do something for the American people.
Cathy,
Who is attaching what to this bill ?
The article description of the gorup getting together in Washington just sums up what the Demcoratic PArty now can only attract. Well written dsecription. I hope all of these fringe groups get what they are supporting... very little support from the Democrats after the DEMs once they get in office. Keep singing that song and some day you will all learn that you are being used by the Democrats and the President. Sorry, but I doubt if many will joint your little group!
The President may be bringing crowds to their feet, but he can't bring his jobs bill through Congress.
With Republicans against the job bill and even the Democrats criticizing the tax increases to pay for it as well, there are those who question if the White House will even be able to pass the bill in parts. The American Jobs Act already lacks focus on the problems that got us into the situation, and passing only pieces does not seem to be a way to create sustainable job growth.
The plan has its problems: employers are unconvinced it will lead to more hiring and less than half of the bill is focused on actual stimulus such as infrastructure spending. Meanwhile, the Republicans proposed tax cuts for business and individuals, easing environmental regulations, and more domestic drilling to solve our economic woes. All of which the Democrats will reject.
If the campaign season is already here, where does that leave jobs?
