Bachmann stresses social issues, makes another gaffe

DES MOINES, IA –- Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann held a press conference this morning focusing on social issues she feels other candidates are ignoring.

About two-dozen supporters –- many of them area Christian leaders -– sat behind her in a ballroom at a local hotel as she re-iterated her anti-abortion views. “We all understand that the No. 1 issue that people will be voting on in this election will be the economy and jobs,” Bachmann said. “But in the midst of this, we can’t forget the issue of the protection of the most innocent and vulnerable among us -- and that’s the unborn.”

Today's event seemed designed, in part, to underscore Bachmann’s strong appeal with conservative Christian voters at a time when she is slipping in national polls. But when the congresswoman misspoke during the Q&A period, she renewed attention on the health of her campaign –- and added to a list of gaffes dating back to her debut on the national stage.

“We have something like 250,000 donors to our campaign,” Bachmann told reporters. “That is a tremendous amount of donors. And our average donation is $50.”

But immediately following the event, Bachmann’s campaign spokeswoman approached the media to clarify that statement. Alice Stewart said the congresswoman misspoke –- the 250,000 donor number was actually, she said, “over the course of her entire political career.”

The press conference followed Bachmann's private tour took of a nearby clinic that counsels women out of abortions. The leaders of the Informed Choices Medical Clinic joined Bachmann onstage, and gave remarks on the role of faith in the debate over abortion rights. They said that the young women who visit are urged to consider keeping the baby.

“At the end of the entire process,” Pastor Brad Sherman said, “we try to ask a second question, and that is: There’s somebody else that cares very much about you as well, and about your eternal life, and his name’s Jesus Christ.”

Imagine THAT!

Old crazy eyes (@@) exaggerating AGAIN! lol

Seems Michele can't get herself enough of the peppermint flavored shoe polish...

I hear it's a delicious condiment to top off corn dogs!

I'll ask again, who the hell are her 'handlers'?

Yo - Novgorod and Moe - a gaffe?

You mean like when Holder testifies under penalty of perjury that he only recently heard about Gun Runner, but the e mails prove he was briefed 10 months prior, and prior to the use of one of the guns that walked in the murder of a Border Patrol Agent?

Like that, cause that is one heck of a gaffe, right fellas?

So fellas, what's up with the Attorney General of the US providing false statements under oath? I don't suppose a little perjury troubles either of you?

Yeah, didn't think so. But man, doesn't look like wither of you need to worry about travel plans to get to the Pulitzer Prize awards banquet.

Carry on guys. And "excellent" work.

Aha. Then it wasn't just me.

Personally, I hope Bachmann gets the nomination. I'd love to see Ms. "250,000-Donors-at $50-a-Pop" take on the billion-dollar underdog.

On the question of the unborn, I wonder if Bachmann would be willing to guarantee that if we end all abortions, all children born into poverty will have automatic health insurance coverage until they turn 18.

Or doesn't Jesus care that much?

But it's all good WCA - Feisty herself has said many times: "you know you have lost the argument when you have to resort to personal attacks."

On this the old gal and I agree completely. Sadly is so often forgets, but still.

And really without the personal attacks so many of our libbie friends would have nothing to say at all.

I actually pity them. Dim witted and on the wrong side of most issues is a terrible way to go through life.

Of course after birth, then they don't give a sh!t about life. Those poor single working women don't need Planned Parenthood, and if they are raped they need to learn to make lemonade from lemons. Those young men who go to war, when we need to send the military to Mexico, well hell it's gotta be done. And those damn criminals, execute them all!

But seriously...Romney was just on Huckabee's show and was asked if he supports "Personhood." Romney said yes, he stammered, but said yes -- maybe he was confused and thought he was being asked if corporations are people. Do you all know about this "Personhood" garbage? It not only would make abortion illegal in ALL cases, it would even make forms of birth control illegal. And Bachmann is worried about Muslims and Sharia Law.

She's right, these social issues ARE important, and the majority of sane Americans need to be vigilant in our fight against these theocratic fundamentalist crazies trying to destroy Separation of Church and State and civil/individual liberties. Put your marching boots on, because these ain't no saints.

all totalled with salary and bonus, just shy of six figures. But make no mistake, this here is my baby. I created it, I run it, and I profit from it.

That the way it is - like I always say, you ain't never gonna get rich working for some one else.

I have no idea what you are trying to imply with the "stealing from my employees" crack. I chalk it you to you being a worker bee.

In fact I have two guys who are fantastic, and should go out on their own. They'd make a lot more and get to be in charge. One I think will in the short term, the other, and most don't, doesn't have it in him. Call it risk averse or just afraid. I understand, but it is a shame.

Spanky, unfortunately, the jobs bill got left in the rest room at the train station in Paraguay. Obama forgot it there the last time he used the Intercontinental railroad for a state visit.

Either that, or the dog ate it.

Whatever happened, it's definitely Bush's fault. A poll of states 51 through 57 proved that the overwhelming majority of voters residing in those states blame Bush for all their problems- including the fact that no one but Obama knows they exist. Oh, and some democrats from their non-existent congressional districts. Hard working democrats, they. Got a ton of stimulous money.

Even though there are no such districts, with no such zip codes, they got the dough.

Ah, that hope for change! Two fives for a ten would be fine- but don't ask Obama. Unless you're one of his donors. Then, you get ten fives for a five- and will again, providing mean old Eric Cantor does not shut down his Dollar for Donors program. I mean, stimulous II- or is it called Doing the Job on Americans? Of course, chilled! Stare decisus should be paramount in the minds of everyone in this country! No one should ever question a ruling!

They should have left Plessy v. Fergusson alone!

        Right? Right?

        No. Wrong.

By all means--protect only the unborn! Because once you are born, we know you aren't worth squat and we won't help you no matter how "vulnerable" you are! So much for the so-called "christians"! This is another wedge issue--we are facing worse problems!

Romney has stated their goal is to end Roe versus Wade.

Looks like republican idea of freedom is their right to take your freedoms away. Republicans want to pass a law to make it murder to have an abortion. That way they can fill up the privatized women's prisons. Those republicans can sure think of ways of getting government out of our lives. Will women be thrown in jail for miscarriages?

Republican freedom is throwing everyone in jail who doesn't believe like they do. You can't legislate morality. What next? Sperm is alive when it leaves the mans body. Could be murder?

The founders were correct when they put in the church/state separation. They looked at the Salem Witch Trials and saw that the religious governed by emotions and killed witches because the bible told them so. The founders wanted to keep reason and thinking as the guiding principles of our country not religion. Ending abortions is pure religion driven by emotion. Witches, abortion doctors all are the religious right to kill in the name of their supposed peaceful religion.

But for some reason the religious right now think it is their right to come in and tell us what to do and call it freedom.

Been flipping back and forth between posts and the stories. Can't decide which has the most 'weird-o' content. This one, or the Christie and Cantor ones, and the usual right wingers they've attracted. Again.

        Oh, yeah, and:

Why I'm damn glad to be here Drive By.

It's just talking about a Bachmann gaffe seems a little silly.

But you know me- broken record. Looking to discuss the issues of the day - like Obama admitting we are worse off, Gun Runner/Holder's perjury, and my pet subject Solyndra.

Don't get me wrong I love my guns and freedoms and Gun Runner is a huge scandal, but little old bad loan Solyndra just fits so many "Obama sucks" narratives, and wrecks the green energy thing.

And you know how much I hate green energy/global warming/government waste/bureaucracies/government intervention in private enterprise/the Sierra Club/taxes.

Yep, Solyndra really is the mother load. Or is it just a giant load in Obama's pants?

Actually is rainy and crappy today. This weekend will be final "big ugly" in Havasu. Desert season, time to bust out the motorcycles, quads, and Rhino.

Good ol Spankster..Same ol same ol: Deflect and re frame-Deflect and re frame. Sorry bud but the conversation was about Bachman. Not Eric Holder.

Can you ever stay on topic?

So Torpedo, this article is about Kochs or are you just that ridiculous? Is this comment from the right side of you mouth or the left.

I love you man, you are the best. Forgetful yes, but still....

Spanky -- To bring you up to speed on the 2005 Energy (Green) bill that passed that allowed the loans here is a link:

        http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h2005-132

The majority of Repulicans voted for it and it gives you a break down on who voted yes and no. Now you can use that into to vote all those bad people out of office. Hope it helps. (I'm beginning to think you may end up biting the hand that feeds you. You know being in Cali, many Green companies and VC's would be advised not to seek your services.)

2005 was so long ago. Christ it was just 2009 that global warming was all the rage. Obama and hillary promised $100 billion to the IPCC to fight global warming.

Yep, that's all far behind us now.

        Progress.

Green is dead, Solyndra saw to that - it just could not withstand any sunlight.

And Obama is nothing if not a ray of Sunshine in this case, eh Don't?

Spank..I love my guns...In fact as a former FFL holder..I can say that Clinton made me lotsa money when congress banned hi-cap mags. Hell I was selling Glock mags for $80.00 each ...Now the pusses over at the NRA are screaming about an ammo tax and 45 auto ammo went to 25 bucks a box...That pissed me off..Now it's down to $18.00 @ WallMart for 50 rounds....My point is that conservative hysteria is good for the gun biz which is what you poltroons have been doing for years. Pity though you don't have better taste in firearms though..Must be from hangin out at local gun shows huh?

I hope Michelle Bachman sticks it out to the very end. I want to vote for her in the Republican primary. I would really like to see her as the Tea Party nominee for President of the United States.

        JK:)

If most of her staff leaving the campaign and going back to their day jobs isn't a clue, maybe the great big fork coming your way should tell Mrs. Bachman that she's done.

There needs to be a THIRD question: who is going to help you take care of your baby here on earth?

        The Republicans? NO WAY!!!!!!

They only want you to have the baby...They are not concerned what you do to feed him afterwards.....As long as it is not cashing in unemployment, food stamps, etc. That will make you and your baby Parasites taking advantage of the liberal policies

Bachmann, Gingrich, Santorum, and Huntsman might as well call it quits. None of them are gaining anywhere near enough traction to win the nomination and the debates and stump speeches don't seem to be helping them out much politically. The only positive for them are possible career opportunities as political pundits and from books sales and speaking fees. That's all well and good, but if none of them can break double digits they will never will be President and are only taking time in the debates from the others who Americans need to hear more from before the primaries.

Bachmann could successfully run as a third party candidate under a Tea Party ticket. There are a lot of people dissatisfied with the GOP field who won't vote Democratic and will probably just stay home, so she could build a power coalition and strengthen the Tea Party brand with those people without taking too many votes away from the GOP.

          Reply#13 - Tue Oct 4, 2011 5:08 PM EDT

Bachmann is a loser, and the reason why is because she's the beneficiary of hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars labeled "waste fraud and abuse".

Bachmann has 23 foster kids, and gets 23 welfare checks EVERY month, food stamps, Farm Aid, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in Medicaid money.

How do you spell "side show phoney", well that's who Bachmann is, which is why people don't support her.

Only the elimination of all conservative Christians will allow all Americans to be free and the world to no longer have to live in fear of the U.S.A.'s imperialist, terrorist holy war. The conservative ideology has never helped mankind in any way, it has not only never helped mankind in anyway, it has oppressed, murdered, raped and killed all those in it's way to gain power. History shows us this. Fact shows us this.

James Madison, the "Father of the U.S. Constitution", along with many founders of this country, regardless of their religious or non-religious affiliations, knew keeping politics and religion separate not only preserves each, but helps them flourish:

"The number, the industry, and the morality of the Priesthood and the devotion of the people have been manifestly increased by the total separation of the Church and the State."

right now, the "most vulnerable amongst us" are the children who are living in poverty and going to bed tonight hungry or the children, through no fault of their own, who are being pulled from classrooms because they are latino.

Illegal latinos? Where do they take them after they are "pulled from the classrooms"? Back to their own homeland or something?

Well, no offense but, illegal does mean "illegal", and why would anyone assume that some of those folks don't actually WANT to go home?

"If they [gay patients] come into our clinic and somebody has an issue, our therapists deal with whatever the issues are," she told the popular late-night comedian and host. "And if they can’t deal with it, they refer them somewhere else.”

The Christian mental health establishment is believed to practice the counseling method, “reparative therapy,” which seeks to cure individuals of their homosexual preferences via reading them passages from the Bible.

"That whole 'pray the gay away' thing…I don't get it," Leno told Bachmann. “I’ve been married for 31 years. Happily married. Two guys getting married: how does that affect my marriage?” what a goof ball republican

Michelle "Welfare Queen" Bachmann is doing the same thing Republicans have been doing since they lost the White House, exaggerate their numbers and pretend like they're part of some grand-scale movement when the fact is, they're the minority, especially in Bachmann's tiny group which is why she remains in Iowa, where she was born, and isn't campaigning anywhere else.
